This place is the worst Genki Sushi I have ever are at. It must be a franchise. The genki sushi at main place mall in Santa Ana CA is far superior. I don't know if it's just California law but the genki here in CA the plates have covers over them. read more

It's Christmas Day and I had to work, stopped at Genki with a co worker after the fact and everything was going good until we ordered one last thing. It took over 20 minutes for this last small thing to arrive. We rang the waiter to try and cancel it because we needed to leave, he went to go check out the situation. While he was away a random other waiter brought us the dish. It was very cold--the entire thing. We tried it, we weren't sure if it was supposed to be that cold or not but it was so horrible that we rang the waiter again to ask. The random waiter that wasn't our original waiter came back and we asked if it was supposed to be cold "I don't know" he responded. I said well, we were originally trying to cancel this and then it came, and then we tried it and it was bad, so can we just remove that from the tab? It seems to have just been sitting out? And he said "we don't really do returns." We asked another question to which he didn't know the answer to either, so we asked if we could speak to someone who did know. While he was away, our waiter came back with the same order. We told him what had happened and he said it was not supposed to be cold and that he brought us a hot one and had no idea where the other had come from. So he set it down. We didn't touch it. The other random waiter came back with a girl who said "well you already ate most of this so you have to pay for it" we tried to explain that we had tried to cancel and then it came and tasted horrible like it had been sitting out and that we didn't think we should have to pay for it and that our own waiter was confused as to where it had come from. She tried to get us to pay for both bowls. I refused to do so. She forced us to pay for one of the bowls, which I think is terrible customer service, though I agreed to do it because they are obviously desperate for money//paying customers if they are forcing people to pay for their mistakes and nasty food on Christmas. We got up to the counter to pay and the cashier asks how everything was, I was honest and told her not great. She asked what the issue was, I told her. Her response was a bit shocking..."what part of it was cold?" All of it we told her. She went off about how the yellow stuff was supposed to be cold and asked the guy what temperature the hot dog machine was. She completely missed our point which was that it took forever and had clearly been sitting out and forgotten about long after we had placed the order. We went back and forth about it until I asked her why we were even discussing it at this point? She said "because I am the manager on duty and I have to make sure that all problems are attended to." .....well, neither myself nor my co worker understood why she was just arguing with us about whether or not the food that she never even inspected was cold (I even told her it was still sitting at the table if she didn't believe us) when she had zero intent of making the situation right. The horrible customer service and lack of knowledge the waiters had about their menu or what was going on at their restaurant was enough to make this my first and last time at that place when there are tons of other great sushi places on the island. We definitely won't be back, and I encourage the rest of you to go check out nicer cleaner places to eat. read more

The supervisor/manager was so rude and sassy..they rushed us to finish our food because they were closing soon..the staff couldnt make up their minds whether or not we could sit at the counter..im guessing because they were closing soon they didnt want anyone to sit there or else they would have to clean again..our food was horrible..never again will we eat here..nor will we refer anyone here.. read more

Lunch did not start off well. Waitress never heard of Edamame. Cucumber roll came with almost frozen rice. Yellow-tail/Hamachi nigri was very, very tough. They are overpriced and under quality. Would never go here again and would absolutely not recommend it. read more

If you are tired of the tourist traps around Lahaina and craving for basic sushi, then this is the place for you and the family. It's a great place to get a cheap meal for the family. If you are looking for a Sansei-esque restaurant, then this is not the place for you. However, there is no wait and the fish seems fresh enough. The customer service definitely needs improvement. One isn't sure whether you have to order with one of the guys walking around or with the guys behind the counter. All in all, this restaurant is now our quick "sushi joint" that satisfies our cravings without the steep Lahaina / Ka'anapali prices. read more

If you want something fresh, order it straight from the waitress. The conveyor belt is fun to watch, but the sushi going round and round isn't the freshest. Most of the servers are brisk, bordering on rude. Genki is decent sushi. In the last 2 month I either ate or attempt to eat @ Genki Sushi. The service is horrible. Waited 15 minutes to be seated. An other 20 minutes waiting for order. I ended up eating 1 plate & having to leave to go back to work. The staff had no customer service. And they never check on us. Overall bad eating experience. read more

Just had an early dinner there with my girlfriend. We were seated by a woman named 'Janet'. After seating the two of us Janet never returned to take our order, Janet never refilled out water glasses. It was very off putting because she managed to stop at ever other table but ours. I thought it was very horrible service and I wouldn't recommend that location to anyone, especially people with fare skin. read more

Love love love this place, love there food. BUT it is extremely pricy for small portioned plates. They raised the prices which makes it even worse. When they take orders it takes forever to get to you, yes there's the conveyer belt but how long has it been there? They should put plastic covers over the plates like how sushi go had it before. If they had plastic covers over the conveyer belt food, I think people would be more comfortable about taking food off the belt read more

I enjoy eating at Genki on Oahu. The Genki at Maui Mall is horrible. Poor service. The employees appeared to be irritated with our group of 5 people. A male server takes our order when we first sat down. About 15 minutes later a female server asks us if we want to order. I told her we already ordered. She tells us that our order never went in and we should reorder with her. It takes about 15 more minutes for our food to partially come out. One of the servers spills a tray of food on my back. When we get our bill, I ask for a discount, she says sorry that she can't. We speak to the manager, and tell her that the service was horrible tonight and the food took a long time to come out. Managers excuse is the employees are new. We tell the manager that she is a bad manager because of the lack of training and managing of the employees. The employees are a reflection of management. We will not be back to eat there. read more

The wait staff was very friendly and the service was quick, the sushi was also very fresh. However, a plate was sent to us by mistake and we mistook it for another tempura plate that we had just ordered and took a bite thinking it was what we ordered. It did not show on the ipad that it was ordered and the staff was aware of the mistake. It was reported to the someone one the floor named Darcie Kalehua; and although she knew that the plate was sent to the wrong table, still insisted that we pay for it and was not very professional and condescending while speaking to us. I had asked for another supervisor and she told me that she was the only one I could speak to. A few minutes later, I had called the store, and low and behold there was actually another lead supervisor on duty. As much as I have loved Genki in the past, I will no longer return to this establishment and would not recommend anyone else go there aa long as this woman works there. read more

Ok, I am IN LOVE with Genki Sushi on Oahu. This past July I visited Maui though and decided I had to get some at this location even though I'd seen a lot of bad reviews on it. I had to have my spicy tuna and my seaweed salad sushi! Anyway, I don't Yelp that much, but I had such a great experience that I had to do a review for them since they get such low reviews. I had called ahead to see if I could make it there on time, as they were closing shortly and I was driving 20 miles to get it. Once nearby we got lost and I called them again and told them we were in Kahului but lost and PLEASE don't close. They were super nice and kept the door open 10 minutes past closing so I could pick up my sushi. Everyone was very very nice and the sushi tasted great! So I would say don't necessarily believe these reviews, but check this place out for yourself. If you think the sushi on the belt looks old, you are free to order fresh made sushi from the waiter or waitress. Mine was fresh and delicious. The spicy tuna at Genki Sushi is worth trying at all costs!!! read more

I writing this in hopes management will take notice and make a big improvement. The food was okay, the presentation was in need of a little bit of improvement, but the service really needs the most improvement. We sat down at 6:20 pm, and was out of there at 7:51 pm because we were waiting for our order to be completed. We wrote our order clearly on a napkin so there would be no mistake. Well, the first order came 20 minutes later, two pieces of sushi, then about another 10 minutes later for a few more pieces. I had inquired 3 times about my udon order, and never got it. A table a couple seats away from us canceled their order, and a waitress had to check up on two additional table orders in addition to canceling the first table order and checking on our order. When you have hungry grandkids, 30 minutes for a sushi order is a bit too long to wait for the first bite. I used to love coming here, and my orders were always correct. What happened? Maybe I'll wait 6 months or so to go back again to see if things have changed, I sincerely hope so. Then I can change my rating back to a 3 or 4 star rating.
