Here's why they lost a star from me though: We had a handful of orders that we didn't receive until 20-30 minutes AFTER paying the check (we thought it was going to come out within a few minutes after paying). The gentleman waiter was really nice and had checked the kitchen 4 times but at this point, my family and I were tired of waiting. Honestly, was just upset that it took almost 1.5 hours to get these orders but I really appreciate the waiter and hostess who helped us. Went here today 2-1-25 after my kid won his soccer game and we were hungry! We sat, a party of 4 in a booth, got waters and one side for the soccer player. We get 2 waters and 1-coke. Everyone orders , I catch the waitress and told her, forget my water, I'll have a Diet Coke. Horrible experience... We went around 330 and it wasn't busy at all. Food took a long time to come out despite it not being busy. When it did come out it was disappointing to say the least. We frequent the Pearlridge one so we can compare the same foods and it seems as though the Waikele location doesn't care about how the food comes out. Frankly, this Genki is disgusting. The kitchen staff's gloves are dirty and never changed as evidenced by oily finger prints on the edges of the plates and spicy mayo with green onions stuck underneath. There was a piece of dried napkin stuck on the top of one of my plates as well, right on the red ring. But not only that, the bottoms of the plates are filthy when delivered to you. Think about this: Then they STACK them all up on top of each other where the dirty base of the plate is touching where they put the next piece of sushi. It was like this back in 2019 and I don't know what I was thinking coming here today but it is still just as gross as it was 5 years ago. Moving the kitchen to the back of the house where customers can't see how dirty everything is has given them free reign to be even lazier. Several of our orders were wrong today too: Crunchy ebi fry roll came out with imitation crab on top, seared spicy salmon nigiri came out as spicy salmon gunkan, we didn't even get the last two items we ordered and asked them to take it off the check because I just needed to leave. But the cherry on top of today's awful visit was the deep fried spicy ahi roll that had almost no spicy ahi inside it but instead, there was chicken. When I inquired with the waitress (black polo, clear framed glasses with lashes behind them, mask, and dyed pigtails), she said it WAS spicy ahi and it was cooked because the whole thing is deep fried. She clearly thought I was stupid as what little fish that was in there was STILL raw like it should be and it was clearly a cooked piece of chicken I was holding in my chopsticks. We like genki because the way they cut their fish for the spicy ahi. Tonight it was big , skinny long chunks. It look like worms lol I thought maybe that's how they do it now but manager said no that's how the fish came. My one pet peeve is that call, pay, cancel button. Staff will not come to your table unless you press that button. You don't get the service like how you before. If you work for tips, you need to earn it. I'm a reasonable tipper if I get good service but I did not. I shouldn't be hounding someone to get water. We'll be going to Ewa location even though it's out of our way. I have not been to Genki in years but my boyfriend recently had it for the first time and since we were in the area he wanted it again. We arrived around 1:30 on Saturday and had a 20 minute wait. I did like how the QR code you use to check in counted down how many people were in front of you so you knew when you were getting closer. We were seated and had a server right away asking about drinks. I really appreciated the complimentary hot tea so I started with that. We ordered 6 items, volcano roll, vegetable tempura, udon, spicy tuna inari bomb, spicy crab roll (fried) and soft shell crab roll. We received the first item in a couple minutes and everything else a few minutes later so a very short wait time. All the rolls were good but we got two spicy dishes and neither were spicy at all. Vegetable tempura was really lacking flavor. I know they aren't typically full of flavor but I've had tempura that was more flavorful then what we had. I really enjoyed my udon. The broth was so good and it warmed me up. The cost is based on the color of your plate and they range from $1.95 - $6.75 per plate. The bill for our 6 items was $36 so not bad for lunch. Our server was very attentive and kept our water and tea glass filled. All in all it was a good experience and we'll be back. Lots of other items I'd like to try. read more

So we finally got up the courage to come back and I'm happy to say it was a 5 star experience. The staff were all friendly and the food is all made to order so it comes out hot and fresh. I have to say everything came out very fast as well. Usually this location is busy with a minimum wait time of 30 minutes to an hour but luckily this Monday afternoon they weren't busy at all and we only had to wait 5 minutes to be seated. The sanitary measures taken have restored my faith in Genki Sushi as I watched the staff spray and wipe down the whole booth between customers. Honestly, this might have been the worst meal I've ever had in my life...the only reason I'm not giving it just 1 star is that the service was good and the staff was very nice. My friend wanted to come, and I confirmed that I had eaten at Genki Ward just a few weeks ago. She'd never been to Genki before, so I shared that it was budget sushi and it was decent for what you pay. Anyway, we get there and the staff seats us once we're both at the door. The place is actually pretty crowded for a Thursday night - lots of teenagers eating here. The staff also points out a big list of items that aren't available, including many tempura options. Knowing that this wasn't high end sushi, I opted to go for more of the cooked items and ordered the seared salmon, the salmon skin, and udon. Strangely enough, the items that were supposedly unavailable seemed to be available - for example - the tempura string beans were marked unavailable, but the sushi roll with tempura string beans was available. The electronic ordering system is really helpful. The seared salmon was pretty good, as was the udon. The salmon skin though, oh my GOD. It was TERRIBLE. What came was an oily mess of chipped pieces of salmon skin? Not sure. Imagine you cooked salmon on your pan for the last four days, then scraped up the crud that had collected on your pan. That was the mess that was inside the sushi roll. Not feeling satisfied, and somewhat curious why it was so cheap, I ordered the ika. My other thought was that this option is usually frozen anyway, so there's not much difference getting it here versus another establishment. Big mistake. The ika was SUPER thin, which explains the price, and did not at all taste fresh. I scrapped the second piece and just ate the rice. We both still ended up paying $20 each with tax and tip. We don't live on the west side but when the kids crave for sushi, we like going to this location. My wife and I thinks this is by far the best location. Everything here is over all better then the rest. The service here is always the best and very polite. We have 3 kids and the staff here is always a big help for us. Came for lunch around 2pm Saturday. Waited about 45mins to get seated. Lets start from the beginning.... Our food arrived, I needed a few things so I did give them a chance and waited, I also waved my hand trying to call for assistance. They saw me, came and said they were coming back. I told myself I'm not making this review if they come back in 10 minutes. They never came back. 15 minutes has passed. I got so frustrated. Our food arrived and we are starving! I needed a straw for my drink, a drink for my son's keiki set that already arrived, sauce bowls for my shoyu, ginger and wasabi, the prize that we won with that spinning game (we always lose and its the first time we won so my son was excited!) and needed a side of garlic mayo. I noticed the worker was sooo focused on cleaning she didn't bother to check up and when she did come she would get distracted and forget to bring the things I asked for. I got so impatient after another 15 long minutes, I stood up and WALKED to them. Instead of assisting me right away they continued to talk amongst themselves. I do not regularly feel the need to leave reviews for the places I visit, but my most recent experience here was the first one that left me so disappointed that I decided to write one. I have been to this location before and had decent experiences, some alright ones, but this one was notably bad. We were sent the wrong dish multiple times even after informing our server. It was a constant cycle of getting the wrong dish, telling the server, and then not receiving the dish at all, leading us back to the server. The first time we were incorrectly sent a 3 piece mixed sashimi when I ordered a 4 piece salmon sashimi. We had never had this happen before (I actually was doubting myself and had to check 3 times that I ordered the right thing!), so we sent it back to the kitchen on the train. It came back once more, so we pulled it off the train and handed it to our server, informing them of the mistake. They said they would let the kitchen know and so we waited for around 5 minutes, still not receiving it before deciding to place another order of the dish we never received so we could at least have one to eat at that moment... Shortly after, another 3 piece mixed sashimi was sent to our table! We didn't even touch that one, and immediately sent it back on the train. This one did not come back. We grabbed our server again to let them know the same exact mistake was made again, and they once again said they'd talk to the kitchen. After this time, we finally received one of the salmon sashimi ordered. The second one that we ordered did not show up for at least another 5 minutes, so we placed a third salmon order for which we were incorrectly sent another 3 piece mixed sashimi! The next time our server asked if we had received all our plates, we told them that we were now missing two. Finally, we received the two salmon sashimi plates. We ended up waiting more than 20 minutes total across multiple instances for an item that would normally only take a couple of minutes at most to receive. As a side note the salmon sashimi normally comes with a slice of lemon. The first one had a very sad slice of lemon included. It was such a small slice of the end of the lemon that was just about unusable. The next two dishes had no lemon slice at all. There must've been some sort of lemon shortage that night... It almost seemed like someone in the kitchen was deliberately making mistakes or not providing their best service. Additionally, there was one other final dish that never arrived even after all the other mistakes, so we had to bother our server again to receive that. By this point, we had waited and stayed at the restaurant for much longer than we intended. To be fair, we arrived in the last hour of the night. However, we didn't plan to stay too close to 10 when they close, but that became out of our control. To be clear, the servers that we interacted with directly seemed to do their best. They were generally kind and seemed to make an effort to help us get the food we ordered. This seemed like more of a kitchen issue, whether it be a miscommunication, error with the ordering system, or a simple mistake. Regardless, being sent the wrong dish 3 separate times and then not receiving the dishes we ordered after speaking to our server about the issue multiple times is sort of ridiculous. I am not the type of person that likes to bother staff, and I actually try to avoid interacting with people as much as I reasonably can, so this was a very dissatisfying experience for me on top of literally just not getting what I ordered within the regular expected time. If it had been for a cheap $3 menu item, and only happened once, I probably would have just eaten it. But it was multiple times and for a $7 item for which I actually got less pieces than what I ordered (plus being obviously not what I ordered!). After so many mistakes, I honestly expected at least a formal apology from the staff, or maybe even a discount on our tab. The Pearlridge location has always been quick to address issues that come up (they've given me a 15% discount as an apology for a very minor thing without me even expecting it!). This location was not so apologetic. If a mistake is made completely by accident once, no big deal. But if you made that mistake, wouldn't you make it a priority that no more mistakes happen to that same person for the rest of their meal? How did the same mistake happen multiple times to us in the same dining experience? It comes across as extremely careless, unprofessional, and unwelcoming. The sushi maker insisted he/she gave us our two orders of salmon cream cheese roll, but before we wanted to leave, we told the server we didn't get it. The poor server kept going back and forth because the sushi maker in the back was getting irate about having made it. We showed the server how many plates were on our counter as proof we didn't get it. Eventually the sushi maker relented and made our two orders of sushi, but I guess he/she was being passive aggressive because when we got our two orders, it was on one plate and it looked as if he/she just swiped a bar of cream cheese on our fish to give us just a sliver of their precious cream cheese, rolled it up, and served it to us. We always go to this Genki, and this is the first time we were given a hard time. We wouldn't have pursued it, but I'm not paying $11.70 for nothing, and we would've had to contest it anyway because they already put the items on our tab in their website ordering system. We still gave our server a 20% tip because he kept advocating for us, but the one star is for the sushi maker in the back who not only presumed we were liars, he/she would've have stolen money from us if we had not spoken up. I felt so compelled to write this bad review because being told we were lying was enough to boil my miso soup. It's literally so easy to verify if we had the sushi made. It's not like we had put the plate in our pockets and we didn't have a purse or anything to hide it in. Like why you going argue when first we being nice, and second no more evidence we're trying to cheat your restaurant. So if you like getting your patience tested and then proving your innocence in being a honest patron, go to this Genki, because obviously it's not all genki up in here. read more

Food is standard if you've had any other Genki. But during our visit we were told we can't combine stamp cards! I've never been told I can't combine my stamp cards at any establishment. I wish they would've treated me the way they would want to be treated. Also more and more places are requiring you as the customer to service yourself. Today I needed to check my own self in using the QR code on my phone. Then I was told to place my own order via my phone. When I first entered and was waiting at the front, the host took the people in front of me, then it took him awhile to come to me. He asked if all the party was here. I said it's just the 2 of us and he's coming from the parking lot. We told him we wanted a table. He gave us a table. We compared this location to Kapolei. It seems this one has newer and updated things. It was cleaner. Bruh Genki stepped up their game since the last time Ive been to one which was super long ago. The food choices were bomb. The coolest thing that happened was that I dropped my takoyaki balls when removing them from the track and it fell onto the table and floor. The worker asked if he could replace it for me. Located in Waikele Shopping Center, this location has a tendency to be fairly busy during evening hours. You can join the waitlist online beforehand which is quite convenient and see your place in line live. There's some stalls located right outside but during peak hours you may have to park across the street closer to KFC and Lowe's if you wanna avoid the wait. Also some of the trees have birds that will splatter your car. This location has a decent amount of seating. This location has the Shinkansen train cars that deliver the sushi to your table. You order either through the waiter or on a tablet monitor. There are some specials on the board that aren't available so you have to ask the waiter to order. The tablet menu makes it so much easier to order but at the same time you may order wayy more food than you can eat haha The stuffed or spicy mushrooms have been a go to because you can't go wrong with fried mushrooms topped with spicy tuna. They give generous portions of fries if you want something filling. The garlic fries are unique with a sweet sauce topping but not much of a garlic taste. Overall Genki has a decent selection of sushi and sides such as miso soup and chawan mushi. The fish is not the best quality but it is quite conveniently located by the and Waikele Shopping Center and UFC gym. They also have a Baskin-Robbins in walking distance if you need dessert following your meal. read more

Took 40 minutes for first order to come out after inputing (3) items. Had to flag the staff for next order, which took 20 more minutes. Staff said it was a problem with their ordering system. I will not be coming back. read more

The quality of the food at Genki Sushi Waikele location went down significantly since we last went there 6 months ago. At opening they had no tempura sauce, no agadashi sauce, the salmon was mushy on the garlic salmon, the tempura batter and salmon bone coating was dark brown indicating the oil that it was fried in was old. I'm a cook myself and I can tell these things. We initially chose Kunio, but wanted to eat salmon bone so went to Genki. We would have had better value and quality of food at Kunio's. Recommend Genki Waikele get good people who can plan and prep food accordingly else they will continue to get poor ratings. Btw service was ok. read more
