I was looking forward to dining out since it had been so long. I was excited to try this place as it was highly recommended by a friend. Unfortunately my experience was extremely disappointing. We placed an order for a small pizza and a pasta dish. 10 minutes later another family placed their order. They received their food before we did, which we thought was strange. Even another customer asked us what we had ordered since she noticed the same. 40 minutes later we go up to ask about our order, and we see it wrapped in a bag in the back. The server then gave us the food, but by then it was cold. Who knows how long our food had been sitting. The Fettuccine Alfredo was far too small to be worth the price. We decided to leave and reheat the pizza at home. The food was good after reheating, but under all the circumstances we will not be returning. read more

I love the new management at Genoveses! Whomever is posting bad reviews is probably related to either ex staff, ex management??? I don't know. What I do know is that I have now been there four times and decided to finally review it. The food is delicious.. I've had the pizza of course, lasagna, a few of their sandwiches, and so far all have been great. On tap beers are crisp and cold. I love their Rosé. Aside from great food the place is cute and cozy with inside seating and super cute outdoor seating as well. The outdoor seating is surrounded by potted flowers and outdoor lighting to create a beautiful ambiance. I've also had great interactions with the staff just like with previous management, the staff is super friendly and attentive. Nothing compromised there. And I've had the pleasure and yes it was a pleasure to chat in a couple of occasions with the new owners. Very friendly and inviting and based on our conversations they are very eager to make this a welcoming and enjoyable place to visit so next time you want some pizza, a nice light wine, ice cold beer and or a little Italian style plate to snack on, give this place a chance. Bleh. A co-worker rec'd this place to me. According to him it was good. I think maybe I expected too much. It's a hole in the wall, less than a mile away from work so we went for it. There are barely 6 tables inside and more outside. We had a pepperoni pizza and a spaghetti bolognese. Pizza tastes like.... cafeteria pizza? Cheese was too thick and the crust tasted like a pretzel. It wasn't bad, but i wanted something traditional. This was American. The pasta was slightly overcooked and the sauce was too pasty. I think it reminded me of Del Monte Traditional canned sauce... no real tomatoey taste, but it was all tomato pasty... thick and salty. (so you can put it into context, I prefer a fresher, just crushed tomato sauce and lighter on the pasty taste...) The portions were kind of big. I'll admit it was a good deal. Pasta, garlic bread and soda for $5.95. The server lady was impersonal; she got right too the point, none too friendly. Don't think I'll return. You'd think that with a name like Genovese, they'd actually use some basil in their cooking... Oh well, the people around seemed to like it. What a great discovery. The charming little bistro style gem is tucked away from the congested area of Main Street. The outdoor patio is quite charming and pleasantly shielded from the street. We absolutely loved our "small" antipasto salad. It was fabulous - and overflowing with everything one expects to find in an antipasto salad. The minestrone was delicious and my husband relished every bite of his lasagna. Our young waiter J.C. was absolutely charming and very proud of each item offered on the menu. We will be returning very soon and highly recommend Genovese's. read more

The one star is for the food. No doubt the food is amazing. The service is okay. It's a small mom and pop shop which is expected but don't come here unless you have plenty of time to spare. It took about 30 minutes to get our order in, then another 45 for the food. If you're hungry and need to eat immediately don't come here. Save this place for a day you have nothing to do. To top it off. There was a hair in my friends plate and it took another 25 min to get a replacement. read more

I came here with the spouse for dinner a few nights ago. This is a really cute little place with nice ambiance. We ordered the special for two which came with a drink, salad, garlic bread, spaghetti with meatball, and a pizza with one topping. The garlic bread was excellent but everything else was just ok. I'm a sucker for homemade pasta and I was disappointed to find that the do not make their own. The pizza was a little greasy. The service was good and we got our food in a reasonable amount if time. I liked the dim lighting and nice view of Huntington Dr from the windows. They also have their own small parking lot and there is plenty of street parking nearby. Overall 3 stars. I have been coming here for 23 years. I actually worked here as a dishwasher at 15years old as my first job. This place is the best Italian restaurant in Alhambra hands down. It was amazing before the new ownership and it is even better. I've driven by this place a million times. Finally paid a visit. I am so glad we finally did. It's a small place. Private party was going on inside. We sat outside next to a heater and it was perfectly fine. Karina and Sain were very welcoming, attentive and friendly. I went with my daughter and two-year-old grandson and Sain immediately brought over a high chair for him. For starters we had the chicken wings and they were very juicy and tasty. I ordered the spinach ravioli with alfredo sauce. The ravioli was very tasty and the sauce was very creamy. I really liked it. My daughter ordered the meat lasagna and she enjoyed it also. Both of the adult pasta dishes came with soup or salad and garlic bread. The garlic bread was very soft and hot. My two-year-old grandson had the kid's plate of spaghetti and meatballs and he was a happy camper. I also had a nice glass of San Antonio velvet rose.' They have several tables on both sides of the building and a little patio area with additional tables. It looks like a nice place to have a party in the summer time. An overall average restaurant. The best thing was the free garlic bread, but no refills on the garlic bread. The garlic bread was delicious. Had a large genovese special ($18). The pizza was just ok. I also had the lasagna ($10) and alfredo ($9) which were average. Free refills on coke ($1.95). They also run a $5.95 lunch special from 11 to 4 which includes entree and a drink. So me and husband went into the newly remodeled resturaunt, need to poinf out a couple of things that i noticed. Found this place quite randomly while wandering around, trying to find a place for lunch. I wasn't familiar with the area and wanted something simple but good, and thankfully that's what I got here. The interior seemed really cramped but it was nice out, so I sat at one of the outdoor tables. Ordered pasta (admittedly hard to screw up) off their lunch special menu, not bad but not spectacular. The waitress was very nice and the atmosphere was pleasant, with the exception of the lady at the next table yelling into her headset for the entire time I was there... Came on a Wednesday morning, May 11, 2011. Glancing at a few of the negative reviews, I have to admit with the consensus that service is slow. HOWEVER, I did not notice any of the employees (well, I think there was just the lady manager/owner/server and the cook) slacking. I sincerely felt the two working were doing their jobs, as quickly as humanly possible without sacrificing quality of a cut finger. I think if they wanted to win over half the yelpers here, they could hire an extra hand... but then it may detract from the profits of this clearly mom-and-pop establishment. Anyway, let me get on to the food. The salad was refreshing, and had thick slices of mozarella. I LOVED the garlic bread. I still remember that garlic bread, and we added a second order of it while we waited for our food. I got the spaghetti and meatball. I was not won over by the meatball, but it was a solid dish, no complaints. I'll have to try the pizza next time -- I almost wanted to kick myself when I searched this on yelp, and realized "pizza" is in their name. My dad always told me never to order any other dish if a specific one is mentioned in the restaurant's name -- he was speaking of Viet restaurants, but I'm sure the rule applies. Come for the food, and to enjoy a nice morning on the sidewalk patio, not the service.... which only gets worse right around 11, when I think every single table was occupied. If you're looking for an affordable italian lunch or dinner, Genovese's is the place to go. My boyfriend and I came here with his family where his sister announced her engagement. Yayyy! Anyways, there were seats outside and I believe there were seats inside as well. For food, my boyfriend and I got the dinner special for two which came with drinks (some beer & wine included), breadsticks, salad, spaghetti with ONE meatball, and a one-topping pizza. Nothing was super good but it wasn't bad either. Spaghetti and meatball was average. The marinara sauce tasted as though it came from a jar, however, the meatball was good. As for the pizza, the crust was very "dough-y" if you know what I mean. I actually liked it! I love it when the crust is doughy. It was a lot of food. I believe it came out to about $12-15 a person (?) which I thought was a pretty good idea considering all that carbs that you got! I probably won't be coming back but if you're living in Alhambra, you should definitely come by for their cheap lunch specials. read more

I can't recommend Genovese's enough! Seriously! The food is so good!!! I ordered a few things, and glad I did because it gave me a taste of all they can do. We had the shrimp scampi, omg, I could not stop eating it! So comforting, and savory, and delicious. I want it right now but it's still breakfast, so I'll wait. You have to try it! We also had the pepperoni pizza, the family loved it. And the salad with fruit and that dressing! Yum. I have to admit, I don't usually mix my greens with fruit, but I wanted to try it, and I loved it. I think maybe the acid and sweetness with their salad dressing made the difference for me. I really really liked it. then the garlic bread.... I ate it with my dinner, and the reheated it with my breakfast and lunch the next day. Loved it!
