Kindred at Home provided excellent caregivers for my parents. My Dad had Parkinson's and dementia and my mom fell and broke her back and had beginning stages of Alzheimer's . My parents had been very independent until their late 80's so it was an adjustment having caregivers in the house 24/7. I worked closely with Faye ( the director) on a daily basis, over the phone and she would come to the house for visits as well. It was a transitional period where my parents didn't know how the caregivers knew to show up everyday. In the beginning, my mom would call the Kindred office every morning and again several times during the day and explain that they didn't need caregivers. Luckily, the Kindred caregivers knew this was a common issue with new clients so they would "hide" in the house. They had a camera and a portable monitor so they could still watch my parents and make sure my parents were safe. Once a little bit of time passed, the caregivers would "reappear" and my parents were so happy to see that there was someone there to help them. They had forgotten that they told them to go home. I lived 400 miles away in Los Angeles but I would make frequent trips to their house in Northern Californian so I got to know the caregivers very well. I am so thankful that my parents were able to remain at home and extremely grateful for the wonderful care they received from Kindred caregivers. The caregivers became like family to me in a very short period of time. They cared for my parents as if they were their own parents. It is a very challenging job to come into someone's home who doesn't want you to be there (because they don't realize they are in need of help due to their disease). Once you witness the caregivers hugging your mom and dad and tucking them in at night and kissing them goodnight, you know you did the right thing by keeping them at home. My elderly aunt lived in a nursing home and she never received the same quality of care my parents did from The staff on the nursing home. I demanded to remove my aunt one night once I realized that no one was paying attention to her since she had become combative due to the progression of her Alzheimer's. They handled her roughly even though she was frail and harmless. They neglected her and it took me showing up unannounced several times to be able to see that she was not definitely not receiving the respect and dignified care she deserved. I brought her home to my parents' house and I knew she was in good hands being lovingly cared for by Kindred caregivers. I could go on writing for hours because my parents and my aunt had 3 caregivers per 12 hour shift/ around the clock 24/7 for 18 months. Not every caregiver was the perfect fit, but once we found the team that jelled well together, it made all the difference in the world. The most important thing to me was making sure that my parents received the best care possible. My parents received excellent care up until taking their last breath. Kindred caregivers were very helpful and made my first, second and third experience with hospice at home for my dad, my mom & my aunt a beautiful experience. The Kindred team will work with you to be sure they provide the best caregivers for your family member(s). I am still in touch with their caregivers and they passed away in 2019. Faye and her team at Kindred came to my family's rescue when my parents needed immediate assistance. Within weeks of having my second baby, my aging parents took a turn for the worst and I didnt know what to do. I feel so fortunate that I found Faye as I truly dont know what we would have done without her expertise and kind attention. Not only was her turnaround time stellar, she was able to match my parents with caregivers they absolutely loved. People who are going through this tough process know how many aspects of life are effected and how overwhelming it can feel. Everytime I have reached out to Faye with a random questions or concern regarding my parents and she has either been able to help herself or facilitate the resource we needed. This is specifically regarding the manager, Charles, and the office manager/scheduler of caregivers, Will. I am very appreciative of the level of care Charles extended to my friend, Jer, (89). Charles came over to meet me and my friend as everything was happening so fast - as often happens in these caregiver immediate need situations. Charles jumped in - without hesitation - assisting a Hospice worker and me to meet the needs of my dear friend. I was amazed. He is the branch manager - and put on the hat needed in the moment. That is compassionate caring. Will, the office manager-scheduler, has the difficult job of filling scheduling needs - and this is certainly not easy. In fact, while I am quite skillful in organization (meeting planning up to 10,000), I doubt I could do what Will does - with such kindness and professionalism. I especially appreciated Will and Charles being effective communicators, level of clarification as needed, guidance, understanding and compassion. They are a real team with 100% focus on serving their clients' needs - usually elders and/or disabled. In terms of caregivers. Frankly, it is a hit and miss. Two were exceptional. And, the third turned out to be better w some intervention. In fact, she turned out to be incredibly helpful. Jer loved her and that meant the world to me. He said "she's the best". If you are concerned about the level of experience, do ask Will about the caregiver's background and experience, and training. I was shocked how unorganized and dishonest this company is. I met with Faye a week before my mom was going to be discharged home from a nursing home and she told me everything I wanted to hear in regards to staff support and our requested hours and time slot. She won me over with her charm and assertiveness but boy did she get me. It started with day 1 saying that the main caregiver had a family emergency. They sent a worker that had zero caregiving experience and my mother is high risk, which I had mentioned at our meeting. The day after that, the caregiver called off and then Faye started to change her tune. She says that the 4 hour slot is not ideal and that the caregivers choose not to work it and that we need not just to add more hours, but to change the timeslot. Everyday it was something new. Multiple days of workers not showing up and neither my mom or I being notified, and sending back the newbie who couldn't even throw away wrappers to food. It went from one week of everything lined up with reassurance, to the next week with full neglect. Bottom line is, if you are needing a caregiver and are ok with rolling the dice to see if anyone shows up and also be prepared to cough up more money for less than satisfactory care for your loved one. read more
