    Large catfish and shrimp
    Joyce J.

My brother-in-love searched 'Soul food from a Black-owned restaurant' and we found George's...and what a find it was! I was worried upon entry when we only saw a couple of folks dining but this spot did not disappoint. Great food. Great service. Great location and plenty of space to spread out. Our crew ordered fried chicken, catfish, perch, shrimp, okra, fries, and potato salad. And it was all delicious. Freshly prepared and had us licking our fingers. Get both the hot and mild sauce. Warning. You get potato salad or coleslaw as an option but only a teaser size. The potato salad was so good, we ordered a larger size to share. They were all out of beers and didn't have any banana pudding...not sure if this is a thing or if it was just a busy day before we got there midday Saturday. With that said, we are all looking forward to returning soon! Oh. Yea...also great music!

Being from Chicago I wanted to go support another Chicago business owner. The catfish is incredible .The sauce reminds me of everything about home. The grits are good. Everything was great, place is very nice on the inside. I recommend if you want some good Midwest Chicago, chicken catfish and other soul food you try to spot. Dec '25 - Recommend: Yes. Presentation: 5/5 Cleanliness: 5/5 Efficiency: 3/5 Customer Service: 5/5 Price: 4/5 A converted 'Taco' house, into a Chicago styled, home-cooked, style of food; this place was great! I love walking in and hearing music overhead and it was a R&B-styled, soul-filled set of tracks that brought me back 25+ years to some relaxin-clubbing music; loved it! The restaurant was clean, appealing and decorated with leftover lighting and a wall panel that was pretty cool visually with a short bar and spacious seating. Restrooms were clean and large too. Food was only better by the hilarious titling on the menu. With 'Loaded Big-Ass Biscuits' as an example, you know you need to keep looking around and it doesn't end there, LOL. The meals are made to order so expect a little bit of time to get them out to you but my party of 3 had various breakfasts with a burrito, chicken and fries and I had a type of omelet with seasoned potatoes. I have to say, it was really, really good! Flavor in all meals, the hospitality was wonderful and enjoyed the music overhead. I actually have no idea what I paid but I would absolutely roll back in due to the end product being a comfortable, enjoyable gathering place, with a scrumptious meal with great service. The only thing we noticed and has been previously communicated from the reviews is the 'hand-held' ordering/pay Tablet are still - not working well, kept failing, and our server had to go onto a second one so this seems not to be corrected since it's opened up. That being said, we thoroughly enjoyed the visit, the food was certainly tasty and loved the simple atmosphere. Would like to come back for the entertainment that goes on in the evening and try that out too!

This is one of there Chicago styled drinks.

My server Shamia was excellent and working hard, waiting tables, making drinks & cleaning up. The tables & chairs are comfortable and they play great music & they have tvs for you to enjoy your time while you wait. The food is a 10 & the Obama cocktail was delicious. I've ordered to go several times this was my first time eating in. My complaint.. there were so many workers standing around talking at the bar and there were dirty tables. Eating your food around tables that have glasses and crumbs on them not cool. This place is great, I just hope they do better because my friends that ate there three weeks ago said the same thing about the tables.

Attended the grand opening at the new location. It was a great time with great service and great food. The owner is amazing. I appreciate his hospitality, upkeep, and receptivenes to customers constructive feedback. This is a well run local restaurant offering fresh food with the Chicago flavors and style, late weekend hours and a hip DJ to bring the music scene to life.

Open front entrance, very welcoming inside.

Although the restaurant says "George's breakfast & brunch" it's the dinner that caused me to add this to my favorite list. The open seating was a plus for me. Booths, half booths and chairs, high tables, regular tables and bar seating.

Two catfish fillets and four colossal shrimp! This came hot out of the grease and it was delicious!

This is my third time here in a week! I'm sure my cholesterol levels will be extremely high, but baby that fried shrimp is worth it!!!!!

    Fried Deviled Eggs

Solid food. I saw fried deviled eggs on the menu and never in my life ... I had to try them. I'm pretty sure they are meant to be shared, but they were so interesting--and I am weird, but I like my deviled eggs fresh and warm so this was perfect. I'm always on the hunt for catfish and was torn when I also saw gizzards. It's hard to find gizzards. But catfish was the mission today and it was also tasty. Will hit up the gizzards next time. So what could make it better? The vibe is super chill and laid back which was fine for the afternoon with nothing else going on, but if you are in a hurry - may want to order to go in advance if it's available. I ordered a drink and it was a smaller glass without any offer for a refill so if you are on a budget, you may want to skip the drink. The meal came with a small tub of potato salad which was delish but seemed out of place. The team was friendly and the place was clean - worth the trip!

    Sweet potato fries!

First timers! Had a very good breakfast burrito with chicken sausage - hefty size, excellent flavor and a side of breakfast potatoes. Portion size is great! Very good coffee, super service and friendly environment - my wife enjoyed the BLT and sweet potato fries with ranch. Over all four solid star first try - thanks fellow yelpers for the reviews that led to our trying this gem! Will be back to try the chicken and waffles next time - you gotta try this place - see photos!

We went here to support a black owned business and they played in our face. We ordered the shrimp and grits and a mimosa flight ($21) and this is what came out. For $20.50 I expected smooth and creamy grits, well seasoned shrimp, and some type of sauce, all beautifully plated -- not a bowl of grits with 3 pieces of fried shrimp thrown on top. The grits were thick, lumpy, and had no seasoning to it. Seems like they only added huge spoon fulls of melted butter and parsley for "garnish." The shrimps were of decent size, but still didn't make up for how lackluster this bowl of shrimp and grits were. I love supporting black owned businesses, but we have to do better if we want to progress more as a whole community. It starts with honesty....if I could give 0/5 stars I would. Save yourself $50 and go somewhere else!!

I was missing Chicago fried chicken and this place what just what I needed. It takes some time to make the food but that's why its tastes so good and fresh. I couldn't have been more happier, definitely nostalgic feeling and I will be coming back often. It also a plus that people are friendly and the place is super clean.

Large Catfish and Shrimp plate which were crispy, juicy, gigantic, and not greasy.

Stumble upon this restaurant and we are so happy we did. Upon entering the establishment we were greeted so kindly by someone who took the time to answer any questions we had and also made some great suggestions. When the food came out it smelled so good it made us even hungrier. We ordered the fried catfish and jumbo shrimp and we were so delighted because they did it so deliciously. The pieces of fish and Shrimp were huge and extra crispy, yet juicy and not greasy! Simply finger-licking licking good! The gizzards were so crunchy and chewy, just the way we like them. We were suggested to sprinkle the lemon pepper on top (which they get straight from Chicago) and oh boy that was the perfect way to eat it! The side fried okra was huge and everyone loved them. We can't wait to come back and try their chicken because everything we ordered did not disappoint. So happy we found this spot.

I am not going to reach out, but again, the effort speaks volumes. Bravo! Look, at this point, it must be me.... I'm not quite sure. I specifically went with a box combo because I didn't want to deal with a swap on the 3 finger combo... I also decided not to give a $20+$2+$.96 just because I wanted a $10 back... you know? Math. I decided on the $20+$.96 for the even $8. Ok... get my drink, so far so good. Then I get my meal and inquiry as to whether I got my drink. Yes, but not my change. No dispute just a few extra minutes added, my bad for paying cash.... I get home and while I am stoked about 5 chicken pieces in my 4 piece combom, I am devastated about 2 toasts. My least enjoyable part of the meal.... it HAS to be me right? I mean, I made no substitutions, I tried to avoid all possibility of issue... and so, 2 toasts... guess I'll sandwich up my extra strip.

And the food overall is good too as expected at any canes. Also the interior is nice too with movie posters from popular films. There is also the usual interior decorations you see at every cane's like disco balls and other music era decorations. But again the inside needs to be cleaned a bit better and the parking lot could be better. Since it's so busy there is almost no parking and it can be a pain to park. Also need to be careful when driving in as the way in is right near the exit of the drive thru. So that could also lead to frustration when trying to drive around to park or get in without running into close encounters with other drivers. Overall, this is a good Raising Cane's but it can be a mess to park and really frustrating to get in and out since it's right near the ASU campus. That will lead to it being super busy and other chances of not being able to find a place to sit or long wait times.

There is plenty of bar space if you're popping in for a drink.. of course, the actual bar that runs along the shelves of liquor, and there is also a bar on the other side of a roll-up door, perfect for people who come with dogs. There's also a bar space that runs along the window that separates the small dining room and the patio. There are a few tables inside as well as some bigger tables on the patio. The patio is nice with lots of shrubs right outside the rail. The murals on the wall are pretty darn cool - - they're like enlarged historic photos of the area. I love them! And I'm not sure who's giant face is hanging on the ceiling but it's short a spark conversation. The menu here has a little something for everyone. There's the regular loaded fries and wings, salads, and a nice election burgers. We ordered the Philly Salad and the Very Summer Salad with a side order of fries. They make their own ranch, and it is good. I will say they don't seem to skim on salad ingredients either - - the Philly salad was covered with shaved beef, and my berry salad had a lot of chicken and tons of blue cheese. The fries were delicious - - slightly seasoned and crispy. This place is clearly dog friendly. In fact the day we went there was a sweet Pitbull named Daisy who literally hopped up on a bar stool and sat there like a little angel the entire time. The bar had a dog full of water that they sat down on the counter next to her owner's beer. They also have dog biscuits to give. It made my day to see that sweet little dog hanging at the bar having a treat. This really is kind of a spot that feels like it's probably the hangout spot of many people. Great bar food and a good selection of beers. What's not to love?
