Let me just first start off by saying if you buy anything from George Thompson diamond company, DO NOT wear it or take it out of the box or even have a ring sized until after the 30 day return period!!!! Let me tell you they will take you to the cleaners in charging you for "repairs" to put the item "back in sellable condition" Everything I've gone into George Thompson the service was less than par, the only friendly face in the store was the security guard at the door. Today's visit was unfortunately for a return. Made a purchase less than a month ago sadly had to return it. We were not greeted upon arrival, and when we were greeted it was by Patsy who was short with us and borderline rude. She then called over the salesperson who sold us the rings and pointed out to her that it was HER sale and that SHE needed to "take care of it" Having worked in retail, more specifically jewelry, I felt that Patsy's actions were rude and extremely unprofessional. Patsy sticks around to examine the merchandise and point out to me the rings have been worn (duh!) and that they would need to be repaired and it would be taken out of my refund. Ok, fine I figured it couldn't be that much. Boy was I wrong! My salesperson (Misty) proceeded to charge me $74 dollars each ring to have it sized back to "stock size" (crap in my opinion!) and them try to charge me a separate charge to rhodium finish and polish the rings. Again, my jewelry experience came into play and I told her that I know rhodium finishing should NOT be a separate charge because when you repair a ring it has to e rhodium finished regardless! She then only charged me for the polishing for one ring only. Then if it wasn't bad enough already, they TAX the labor!!!! Labor in a "repair" can't be taxed! At that point I was tired and just wanted to be done. So in all, after haggling I ended up paying almost $200 dollars for repairs on two rings I will never see again! I think it's crap business and punishing customers who want to return items. If you don't want to deal with returns then don't have a damn return policy!!!!! Don't gouge your customers with shitty crap "repairs" just so you can keep some of their money! Your customer service is awful! I've been a customer since 2008, ( not by choice my husband bought my first ring there) and every single time I've gone in there I've been treated cold and have had to deal with crappy rude employees! George Thompson you really need to step it up, because from my experiences your commercials are false advertisement! The only pleasant person I've dealt with there is misty, I feel awful I had to return my ring against her, she was pleasant and patient. The rest of your staff needs a seminar in customer service. I did call the store to speak to the manager regarding my issues and he was VERY nice and understanding of the issues I had. I came here on two separate occasions for wedding ring shopping. I will describe both instances and remove the names of the two that helped us. Friday: I came in with my fiancée and future mother-in-law to schedule a custom ring appt (combining my grandparents wedding rings) and shop for my fiancées wedding ring. The lady who helped us was pleasant at first, measuring my fiancées finger and showing us the rings that he liked. My BIGGEST issue was every 3-5 minutes she excused herself to answer the phone. I walked away to look at the bridal sets because I was so irritated that she did that multiple times...which gave us the impression that we were not worthy of her full attention. My fiancée found a ring that we all loved and he called me back over. We were ready to buy(well order the ring since his fingers are larger than average). But then the phone rang and she had to once again leave to answer it. I then asked her if I could set up an appointment to sit down with someone on Saturday and she said no, that she would be there from opening to closing and handed me her card and went back to answer the phone. I wanted to ask more questions but her attention at that time was more focused on answering the person on the phones questions. There were probably 4 couples in the store and well over that of employees who could of answered the phone. Maybe I wasn't talking to a jeweler...maybe it was a secretary? Day 2: I called today to ask if I could meet with someone for a custom ring consultation. The lady who answered said that Saturday was the most busy day and that I should of made an appt earlier (I kindly said I tried, but that I would still like to come in and meet with ANYONE other than Co***e....she said that was fine and to ask for her by name). I came in and the store had equally the amount of people and staff that was there on Friday. A Very nice young woman greeted us and I explained why I was there and that I'd love to work with someone other than Co***e(because I saw her when I walked in). We waited over by the men's ring selection and a lady came over and asked how she could help us....never introducing her name...even after I introduced myself, my mother, and my grandmother. I explained to her what I wanted done and with absolutely no enthusiasm or hint of joy she explained what could be done. I wanted ALL the diamonds between the rings to be utilized and she said that's impossible. Basically everything that I wanted couldn't be done...other than the basic. I was ultimately turned off (and my mom was highly offended). I left the store just as furious as I was the last time. My mother(who spends tens of thousands of dollars a year on jewelry) said that they don't want to do rings that I want...they want to unload their own stock. All of this I completely understand. The manager defended his employees by saying it could have been an off day for them. Be it as it may...they lost 6 customers that day...and if I would of found someone that would have sat down with me and discussed the options I most likely would have purchased new earrings to wear for my wedding. I DO NOT recommend coming here. I am an elite member of yelp and I'm known for my reviews. So please know that me taking the hour to write this review is NOT to bash the establishment but rather to warn other jewelry shoppers of the experiences you'll get when going there. I left crying. I was so happy when I walked in. My fiancé gave me his great grandmother's ring and we wanted to put the stones into a ring that fit. I was treated like a waste of time and space. The guy looked at me like a piece of trash when he told me the ring was dirty. I said that it was over a hundred years old so that could by why and he just scoffed. He barely even looked at us when we asked about bands. He was very old and had a look like I was a five year old playing on his lawn without permission. I felt so dismissed. He is a horrible person and a worse sales person. My fiancé and I left (I even said thank you for your help due to routine of politeness) and by the time I got to the car I was in tears. My amazing fiancé made me feel better, we continued shopping elsewhere and spent thousands on a ring I love from a place with staff that was actually helpful, warm and communicated. My husband has purchased some lower quality diamonds for me at this store over the last 20 years. They look nice enough but they do not come with a certification or an appraisal of any kind. For all we know, they could be glass or lab created stones. The staff behind counter must have magical powers because they are not certified gemologists, yet they can tell you just by looking at one of their diamonds, the color, carat weight, and clarity. If you disagree with any one of them, including George Thompson, you are surrounded by 3 or 4 salespeople who belittle you almost to the point of intimidation. My suggestion to you is go to Costco where you will get a certified appraisal certificate every time, or go to the LA Diamond Center. George is not selling a quality product. read more

Big disappointment. My fiance and I came here for my engagement ring. Big mistake. Shortly after buying it, a diamond on the ring chipped. We then had it repaired and re-inspected for any other issues. So, 1 1/2 months later a diamond fell out. We immediately returned it. The ring was found to have major issues with the prongs. Now why didn't they catch that initially before selling it or at the time it was re-inspected? We asked for a full refund. I couldn't wear an engagement ring and be fearful that diamonds would fall out, nor did I have the confidence to purchase another ring from here. This guy is a schister. We bought a tennis bracelet there and even brought it in for regular inspections as they require to have a valid warranty. It broke multiple times. It's nearly a miracle that it didn't get lost when it broke. After multiple repairs (all of which we had to fight to not have to pay for), they finally told us that all the stones need to be reset and that they would not cover that. These guys are crap. What good is fine jewelry if you can't wear it because it keeps breaking and perhaps worse yet that the expensive stones that you just bought can fall out? And how bad is it when they won't stand by there own warranty? These guys suck. They are cheap and what you get is cheap crap. DON"T GO TO THIS GUY!!!! Absolutely horrible experience. My husband bought my engagement ring and band here. The terrible quality of product and horrible customer service is why we returned the set for a refund three years later and went elsewhere.This was our experience: 1. Before purchasing, he asked to resize it to fit me and the sales woman said its not necessary because all fit/slim girls are the same ring size. Wrong, he proposed and it wouldn't go past my knuckle. (I am a petite girl but apparently I have bigger hands than what she assumes are average) 2. We took the ring in to get resized and as we lived far away, they said they would ship it to us once the resize was finished. We were VERY nervous about this but they convinced us it would be fine. My husband took the day off work to sign for it when it arrived. But they forgot to put it in the mail. He had to take a second day off work. 3. My ring had micropave stones that kept falling out. Four stones fell out over the course of three years. Kind of a lot. Everytime we took it in to replace the stones, they would tell us that "this type of thing happens some times when you resize a ring." When the fourth stone came out we pushed them to provide a better solution than just to keep replacing the stones.They recommended building a new ring from scratch in my size so that the stones would fit properly 4. We had them rebuild the ring. Four months later (although they told us it would take four weeks) when they called us to pick up the new ring, we immediately noticed it was not the same ring! They had built another style ring. I was ready to throw in the towel right then but they promised to rebuild again. So they did. And again they rebuilt the wrong style ring. This is when we asked for a refund. When we went to a different jeweler, he explained that any jeweler with basic experience would know that micropave rings cannot get resized, they must be rebuilt in the size of the person wearing the ring. He said only the cheap places will try to resize these types of rings. Not only did I have to give up the ring that I was sentimentally attached to but my husband felt terrible. Robert showed us just about everything in the case. After a bathroom break and some more showings from their collection. I've been shopping ya George Thompson for a few years now and have always bought great quality items and always had a great experience and excellent service! But this last experience was just above and beyond!! This past summer I moved out of Ca to another state and my fiancé and I were talking about getting married... I called George Thompson to see if they could get me the wedding band that matches the engagement setting my fiancé bought me. I spoke with Sue, explained to her I now lived in Texas but still wanted to purchase my band from them. After we spoke she advised the best way to ensure the diamond quality matched was to send her my engagement ring, they would size and send back. I packed everything up, insured it to the hilt and kept my fingers crossed (not gonna lie, I was a bit nervous). She gave me excellent instructions on how to ship to ensure safety. As soon as she received it she called to let me know. She let me know they did have the matching band as well. I came in on 2 separate occasions I needed to get my custom made wedding ring set (originally made with a jeweler in west Hollywood - who retired) resized. The first time I went in I was by myself and met with a lady who never introduced herself or sized my ring, she simply measured my finger then quoted a fairly reasonable price, I left with my ring because I wanted to speak with my hubby b4 I made any decisions. After much consideration I went in with my husband to get the ring taken care of I was then approached by a gentleman, again he did not introduce himself, he did however measure my ring, as he was flipping thru his price book, he set my ring down on the glass rather than a nice display board, and put the huge ring of sizer rings on top of my ring. He quoted me almost double what the first lady did and when I told him that I was in the week b4 and what I was quoted he said "oh well you should have left it then, I'm the "shop manager" and this is the price, you also won't get it back until Sept 2nd" - I was disgusted and left immediately. We went to Fox Fine Jewelry on main street in ventura and got it done there - it ended up being the same price as the second quote but I was beyond impressed with their customer service I didn't care - and I got it back in 2 hours cause they put a rush on it -in fact they stayed after closing to meet me so I could get it back that day!!!
