The nostalgia of this diner was everything but that's not all that's great about this place. The service is a atrocious, molasses comes to mind. First my water cup had lipstick on it. One menu to share between four, at least most restaurants have online menus, here they are literally stuck in the 50's. They forgot to bring our sodas. Had to wave a waitress just to take our order. And the wait, the wait for everything is like we ordered in the 50's and barely getting our food in 2021! Anyhoo, it took 40 mins for the waitress to bring our sodas only after we waved her down to ask about it (and she still brought the wrong kind). And our food came out ....NEVER! We canceled after a whole damn hour wasted. F$&! this place literally! We could've ate anywhere and been done in a timely manner! Do not recommend, the wait would be worth it if the restaurant was a 5 star establishment. Heck do I dare say at this point Denny's would've been a better option! Uh, no. We've driven by this place for decades. Today, I was at the vet, up the street, and the other half texted and wanted a chef salad. I drove up Atlantic Ave., and decided I'd give them a try. It was 11:30 on a Tuesday. Aside from people at one booth, the place was empty. The only waitress was kind enough, and gave me a menu right away. I quickly noticed that they did not have a "chef salad" on the menu. She said that they could make it anyhow, no problem. I also ordered a turkey melt and fries. With tax, the total was almost $35.00. Got home, and the disappointment began. The salad was a thrown together mess with just lettuce, tomato, ham and cheese, and several burger type pickles thrown on top. No egg, no turkey, no cucumber. Worth maybe $5.00, not $15.95. My turkey melt was so-so, and the fries were sadly undercooked. I wish we had not wasted the money. read more

We came here today during our bachelorette getaway day and I loved it. The staff was really friendly and despite it being busy, the staff did their best to be attentive and accommodating. Many places loose their friendly welcoming touch when it gets busy, but this place did the opposite. So for breakfast my girlfriend and I were just looking for something quick and simple simce we had a busy day ahead of us and didn't want to wait for the cool hip spots in town. Anyways we were on our way to Ihop when I saw this cool looking diner and told her to U-Turn. Mom and Pop businesses before chains. So we end up at Georges 50s diner and it was a great choice. The place is very clean, plenty of staff to take care of you and they are very friendly. I ordered the Club Omelette with hash browns and a pancake. (you have a choice of toast as well) My girlfriend ordered the waffle and scrambled eggs and sausage. Food was cooked well, portions were good not to much but not to little and the coffee refills kept coming. Oh and the staff would check in once in a while to see how things were. My first time dining here omg it's so yummy. It reminds me of when I was younger the food was cooked just right for me. Even though we are in a global pandemic all safety protocols were in full effect. Outside dining was great with tables being 6 feet or more I felt totally safe. After passing by this diner numerous times on my commute to work and intrigued by the nostalgia of a classic diner, I finally was able to check it out! I ordered a pancake combo that came with two eggs and a choice between sausage and bacon. For the price point, I thought this was a pretty good deal! I was completely content with the amount of food I received and the quality of it. The pancakes were fluffy, the eggs were cooked well and the bacon had just the right amount of crisp. My only complaint of my visit was the mediocre service. My party arrived at noon and there was a sign that said please wait to be seated. There were a handful of empty tables already so we figured we'd be seated shortly. We ended up standing there for 10 minutes before a busboy noticed us and said we could go grab a table and someone will come for us. Once he gave us a menu, it probably took another 10 minutes before a server came over to take our order. From there, we waited approx 30 minutes until our food actually arrived. Someone else who entered after us managed to get their food before us AND have the server take one of their dishes back to fix their order before we even got our food. While I thought the food was good, not too sure if it was 50 minutes worth of waiting food. Maybe it was an off day for them?? Despite that, I enjoyed the ambiance of the place and the classic diner feel. Don't see much of that these days! read more

This diner is exactly what I was looking for in a diner. Really like the nostalgia of a true diner unlike Norms, Ihop, or Denny's. I liked how they had various burgers and sandwiches with classic car names on the menu. Also the menu provided solid variety in choices from a typical diner breakfast, Mexican, burgers, sandwiches, salads and desserts. The service was very friendly and we were warned that because we came in on Father's Day that the kitchen would be backed up BUT we got our orders quickly as if we were there on any other day. The servers were very helpful and sweet. I had been craving chicken fried steak so when I got my order it did not disappoint. It was so good with the gravy poured on top. On this lunch visit with my father I had the 62 Thunderbird Burger (with strips of green Ortega chiles), onion rings and a bottomless iced tea. The burger comes partly deconstructed on the plate. The leaf lettuce, tomato and pickles come on the side so that you can add only what you like onto the burger. A very thoughtful touch. My father had the chorizo and egg breakfast plate with beans, rice, tortillas (corn or flour) and a bottomless coffee. All the ingredients are high quality, expertly cooked and generously portioned. I usually go there for lunch. Got there early so I decided to have breakfast traditional American fair. Toast bacon eggs etcetera. I asked for toast no cut. Everything was OK until the toast. Apparently they no longer use real butter because of some lame excuse the waitress said that people were saying it's not healthy. I call BS. They put some Nasty whipped Margarine that wouldn't even soak into the bread. Had the consistency of wheel bearing grease. Hey George don't be cheap. Sorry Geroge. Didn't have an enjoyable dining experience at your place. I appreciated the abundant parking and no wait during lunch time. I also enjoyed checking out all the car models and artwork around the restaurant. However, it was the food that ruined my experience for me. It wasn't very good. I ordered the hamburger steak, eggs over medium with country style potatos. The hamburger was bland. The eggs were over easy and the potatoes were overcooked. I didn't mind the potatoes being overcooked and the eggs undercooked to specs, but the hamburger was void of any taste. It was almost as if it was just a patty that was fried up without any seasoning. Adding seasoning after the fact didn't help. I left the patty half finished. It wasn't bad - so I didn't request a refund - it just didn't have any taste. If a dish so simple as a hamburger steak could be like this - I really will need to have my arm twisted hard for me to go back and try something else. read more

I should preface this review by saying that I personally prefer whole natural foods. George's has recently reopened, so I was intrigued by the 50's thing and decided to give it a try. Since this is quintessentially a burger and fries place, I decided to go with that. My lunch companion ordered a grilled cheese sandwich with coleslaw. Well, what we received was a pretty typical meal from the 1950's...a white bread bun with a machine prepared beef patty, topped with iceberg lettuce, pickles, a slice of tomato and 1,000 Island dressing. The fries were the type you'd get at a fast food joint. The grilled cheese was on toasted white bread, with American "cheese" melted in the middle. The coleslaw was good, but also appeared to be commercially prepared. Service was friendly and prompt. The restaurant is clean and attractively decorated. The price point is modest - a fair price for what you get. I would describe George's as average... not a place for the gourmet or healthy eating crowd. It's a cute place, in a good location. One of the most welcoming family owned diner in Long Beach! They serve both breakfast and lunch, so you could also brunch. The best thing is that they have lots of meat variety for breakfast. My pet peeve is when I'm served egg, toast, hash browns, and no meat or you have to purchase separately. But at the moment, I was feeling the BLT sandwich so I requested it with an egg and a side of fruits. I had a bite of my bf's chorizo and egg breakfast, it was amazing.
