Visiting George's 50's Diner in Long Beach was genuinely such a special experience for me! One of my favorite movies EVER, A Cinderella Story, was filmed here. Walking inside and recognizing a place I've seen on screen so many times was such a full-circle moment. I loved seeing all of the little details in person and, of course, taking way too many photos. It truly felt like stepping into the movie for a minute. Beyond the movie connection, George's has such a fun classic diner atmosphere. The retro 50s style gives it so much character and makes it feel like a little time capsule in the middle of Long Beach. The waitress was so sweet and our food was absolutely wonderful. As a huge fan of the movie, this was an absolute bucket-list stop for me and completely worth the visit. Hahaha! We went here because it's a Long Beach icon. The breakfast was good (hard to screw up breakfast). My Friday morning breakfast club all enjoyed our meals. Our only complaint is that the restroom facilities for the place are outside the restaurant on the far end of the parking lot ... like an outhouse!!! LMAO! Since our breakfast club are a bunch of old farts every one of us had to make the trip, one twice, so there were complaints all around. It is what it is,,this place has been around for some 70 or 80 years and is a historic site (at least at the city level) and no one would want them alter the building. But none of the guys are asking to go back there. And I don't imagine they will. The service was excellent. An older lady we joked has probably been there since George was the busboy, but that is not fair, she's only in her 50s or 60s. She was attentive and put up with our group of old men, and one in particular who kept trying to flirt with her. I do recommend George's. If you're under 70, the bathroom is not a big deal ... and yes, it was spotless. read more

I really enjoy the ambiance and vibe of this place. It almost feels like stepping back in time when you walk in. The menu is very extensive, with a wide variety of options, and the prices are quite reasonable. The service is excellent--everyone is very courteous, and the establishment is very clean. Neighborhood Gem Alert Finally tried the diner my boyfriend's family has been raving about and now I totally get the hype! It's a cozy, family-owned spot with that old-school charm that makes you instantly feel welcome. The portions are huge and super affordable. I ordered a veggie omelette (added cheese and avocado, because... yum), and it was packed with flavor. My partner got the huevos rancheros, and of course I stole a few bites...definitely getting that next time! My plate also came with a side, so I went for the banana pancakes. The food comes out super fast. A true short order cook experience. I am talking about 3-5 min tops. FAST! I got the 54 Kaiser omelette with hash browns and a pancake instead of toast. Prices were extremely reasonable. My hash browns could have been slightly crispier and my pancake could have been slightly fluffier, but all in all great diner food. Whatever was lacking in taste and texture was made up for with charm, ambience, and fast/friendly service. The AC was kicking and felt really good on such a hot day. There are these cool 2-top tables right next to floor-to-ceiling windows with views of Atlantic. There is a long counter and then another area off to the side with booths for larger parties. We've lived in Long Beach for a few years now and are always excited when we learn about another historical spot! George's 50's Diner was the star location in the Hilary Duff film A Cinderella Story, so we had to come check out the hype! We were immediately seated on a Tuesday morning into a snug booth by a very welcoming host, and our waitress was just as kind and hospitable. I opted for their steak and eggs platter which was incredibly flavorful and the perfect size for me! My friend got an egg platter with their home fries, we added extra onions on top which was definitely the move! The ambiance is definitely different than the film, having experienced a fire a few years back, but the history remains. Definitely a must do for the food and the memories! Upon arrival, observed an artist updating the mural on the back. Looks nice. Upon entry, was promptly greeted and seated. I had the 54 Kaiser omelette with hash browns and toast. My wife had an egg sandwich. Her only complaint was the bread could have been toasted longer. (The food did arrive fast). My omelette was good though I barely tasted the onions. The hash browns left a lot to be desired. Not hot and also could have been cooked through better. Only other bad was we never got a return for drink refresh, but I did get a tea to go. A great little retro diner down in Long Beach. I am working through a list of all diners in LA County and next up on my list was George's. It's a classic Los Angeles throwback diner, which I personally love. They don't have outside seating, but they have plenty of tables inside as well as counter seating. Our server was also extremely polite and everything that we ordered came out as requested and quickly. They have a large parking lot attached with plenty of free spaces so parking will never be an issue. For my first visit I chose the Hamburger Steak & Eggs and really enjoyed all of it. The eggs were cooked exactly as I requested, and the steak was done perfectly. It had a lot of flavor and the portion size was very generous. The coffee was strong and the price was fair so I would definitely recommend to any diner fan or to anyone searching for a great casual spot for breakfast or lunch. read more

I've always wanted to try George's 50's Diner. Diners usually have really good food and even better vibes. The food: I ordered the two eggs with sausage breakfast special and added two pancakes. The eggs and sausage were good -- exactly what you'd expect at any solid breakfast spot. The pancakes were just okay. They tasted fine but had a grainy texture, almost like the mix wasn't blended properly. The atmosphere: It's designed to feel like a 50's diner, and for the most part, it does. However, it looks like they expanded the restaurant at some point and didn't carry the theming into that area. That's where we were seated. The service: All the staff I interacted with were super friendly, which I appreciated. The 50's diner theme got me through the door, but I was hoping the food would be strong enough to bring me back. For being a breakfast and lunch place I expected it to be great. I ordered the country fried steak as I always do at diners and this was the worst I have ever had. I always ask for the gravy on the side because I like it crispy. This thing came soggy and it looked like they scrapped off the gravy to give it to me on the side. It seriously looked like a frozen microwave meal. Nothing had flavor. The hash browns were bland and the eggs were just eggs, nothing special. The pancake was dry, not fluffy at all. My husband had the chorizo omelette which was ok but it's hard to mess up chorizo. The country potatoes had no flavor. I was grossed out I couldn't eat my food. Then they added a whole other charge to our check that they tried to say was the kids drinks charging us 4.25 for each kids drink. So I have passed by this place so many times and it always looks closed so I never stop. We were in the area and starving, so after driving around we decided to make a stop since we saw it was open. The location is right on the corner in Bixby Knolls. The restaurant is like an old fashioned diner. They recently had some renovations done so it was great to see that it was open again. The atmosphere definitely gives off that 50s car hop vibe. I wish there was a bit more decor to set the scene. Our waitress was nice and took our order. Our food came out pretty quick which was a plus. I ended up ordering the biscuits and gravy with a side order of sausage. Everything tasted yummy. A few of the other items on the menu caught my eye so hopefully when we are in the area and trying to find somewhere to eat, we will stop here again. The service is okay the waitress only attended us to seat us, serve our food, then the bill. She did not ask in between if we needed more water or refills or napkins. Which I guess wasn't bad but I wanted more water. I ordered chili cheese fries, and a bowl of chili. Not served as pictured (which is what you expect) and honestly not that great at all and she seemed bothered I wanted sour cream on the side. Made me feel sick. My son usually eats all his burger and fries mind you the burger is only meat and bun we asked for cheese he did not like it. My husband ordered a bacon cheeseburger with bbq instead of sauce, they put the sauce and bbq, it was gross. They don't have real salsa served with the chilaquiles which was disappointing tasted like Tostitos. Been wanting to try this place since moving to the area a few years ago. It's very clean, with ample table and booth seating, nice pictures of old celebrities along the walls, as well as a few pictures of movie shoots that have taken place there. I found the place exceptionally clean, practically could eat off the floor, and everything looked brand new, like a time capsule. I had a full "Tornado" (an egg scramble with ham, onion, tomato, mushroom, 2 kind of cheese, home fries and perhaps some other stuff), a humungous plate of food. Tasted pretty fresh but lacked seasoning, almost no salt to speak of (perhaps for the older folks who are watching their sodium?) Fortunately with some ketchup and hot sauce, it tasted quite good, and I was totally surprised that I finished this massive serving, which came with a pancake (on the thin side and well-browned, with a slightly crispy 'crust'). We also got an 57 New Yorker Omelet with hashbrowns...enjoyed the omelet, while it was on the thin and slightly dry-cooked side, also very low salt...perhaps good to add your own, but as-is was underseasoned. On the upside, everything was served hot and fresh, and our server was very warm and attentive. Also ordered a club sandwich on wheat to take home. It was fresh, although a little underwhelming in the flavor department, and it was griddled a little dark, and fries were a little pale.
