Went to the wrong George's first but we were meeting friends who were at the right one. Food is outstanding, our waiter was excellent & attentive. As if that wasn't enough... the owner Nikki was as warm and hospitable as if we were visiting at her home. She got friendly chatting with our friends while they waited for us at the correct George's and greeted us with a hug when we arrived! We thoroughly enjoyed our food even trying food our waiter recommended, but we'd never had before. His recommendations were perfect and we enjoyed every morsel! We had a large group so we had to be seated on two different tables. Our group ordered: Tzantziki- good, standard, as expected Melintzanosalata (baked eggplant, breadcrumbs garlic, lemon juice)- this was new for us. We expected a babaganoush style dip when we saw it was eggplant but this one was green. Still tasted good just different than expected and we couldn't really detect the eggplant taste Scordalia- (garlic potato olive oil lemon juic dip)this might have been our table's favorite dip, super garlicky and creamy Hummus- we liked this, pretty standard good hummus, their pita is really nice and soft Saganaki/flaming cheese- they made this at our table which was fun to watch. It came with kalamata olives (my fave!) and was super tasty Hallumi- we liked this a lot, would def recommend. It came on a pita with a slice of tomato Greek salad- really fresh veggies and nice light dressing,came with a few triangles of the pita as well which was nice Veg falafel sandwich- the falafel was mashed chickpea and didn't have the texture we expected. There were a few veggies in the sandwich, but we would have liked more Chicken kebab- was a little on the dry side but good once you add lemon Feta garlic fries- these were nice and hot, not too much garlic flavor, we enjoyed the feta on top Overall we enjoyed our experience and would definitely recommend this place if you're in the area and looking for a bite :) read more

I can't tell you how many times by three different people came up to us during our meal on a Monday night, it wasn't bothersome at all because they were all so kind. On Mondays, they do half price for a full bottle of wine. We got the combination appetizer and got semi full off of that but it's a great choice if you can't decide what to pick, best to share between a party of two, anything more and you're fighting over your best choices. I love cheese and thought the spanikopita is absolutely amazing! For my entree, I had a small Greek salad with the 3 lamb chops and the chops were cooked to perfection. Salad was very yummy and had pita underneath the bed of greens, very generous portion with feta which I loved because again I love cheese. We sat outside in the patio because I brought my pups and enjoyed the air and people watching on second street. I was trying to find someone to replace my hidden screen door for my French doors, but was unable to get anyone interested in the job. A friend suggested I try the Thumbtack app. I got 3 vendors responding right away I chose Wilson Window and Screen because they had NOTHING but 5 star reviews. Nothing less than 5. I hadn't seen that before. Usually there is at least one Grumpy Gus... but no, not one. So I called these guys, we set up an appointment, got an estimate and they finished the work as soon as the parts came in. I agreed with all the 5 star reviews and then some! Professional, great workmanship, reasonably priced, and they cleaned up after themselves. I can't write an in-depth review for this restaurant because I only stopped in for lentil soup and a libation. Unfortunately, the soup was too salty and lacked other balanced flavors, and the wine I originally chose was too acidic for my taste. Enter my phenomenal serve, JP! I have to give him a shout-out because he added a special touch to my otherwise mediocre lunch. When I returned the wine I initially ordered, he explained that he was a wine connoisseur and offered to let me try a few different wines to find one that paired better with my meal. I ended up going with his recommendation of a Greek red blend from Amethystos, which was absolutely perfect. He saved the visit! I also asked to be seated near an outlet because my phone was dying, and the manager graciously sat me in an area with multiple outlets. It's been a long while since I have been truly inspired to write about a dining experience. And let me emphasize that this is an experience. I had the pleasure of coming to George's for a family birthday. We were welcomed to set up early and from there I was given help and advice on ordering food. With a smile, I was treated like family. I could just continue praising the attentive service but I would be remiss if I did not talk about the food from start to finish. The continual wave of food began with Humus and Tzantzki with the warmest, softest pita, as if it was hewn from the clouds of mount Olympus. Soft, warm, and scrumptious. The flames roared as they brought the bright lemony saganaki cheese to round the starters. Simply, everything tantalized the tastebuds. The second wave started with beautiful fluffy rice, well spiced Gyro, crunchy and fresh Greek salad, and amazing lasagna type dish called pastitso, which hinted of cinnamon within the ground beef. Let me tell you, I was in awe of the new flavors exploding in combination; an event you have try yourself. The third wave was ordered separately and well worth it. The Lamb Chops should be called the crowning achievement of George's. Grilled, succulent, juicy and well spiced falls short in describing the epicurean delights. If this was the only dish, I could just have given them five stars on these alone. Last and life changing, was their Baklava. I say this because despite trying this desert before, I have never had a version I can say I like until now. It meet the legendary description of being sweet, crunchy, flaky, and light balance the I heard this dish should be known fr, yet have never experienced before tonight. Seriously, it was something out of a book come to life. We were so happy when Nicky reached out to ask us to try George's again. This is consistently an amazing restaurant and for whatever reason missed the mark the last time we went there. So happy to see the restaurant quality is the same delicious food that we've always received from George's Greek Cafe. We started with the fried cheese, which was amazing- Opa! Perfectly prepared table side; it's a treat to watch the flaming cheese. It get the party started for sure! The lamb appetizer was juicy and flavorful. Perfectly charred. My salmon was very good. I love this dish with the added spinach and feta stuffed inside. The vegetables and Greek salad were crisp and refreshing. My friend really enjoyed their Greek Chicken Sandwich. The desserts were perfect. Who doesn't love a Booty Call that doesn't talk? And Baklava is always a perfect way to end the evening! Man I was craving some bomb Greek food that day! My daughter it was her birthday and all she wanted was a Carne Asada burrito which got from down the street at Sancho's tacos which I highly recommend! Anyways we got her burrito and we couldn't stay there because they were close to closing so we decided on what I was really craving and that was some Greek food, I had seen Georgie's Greek café on my walks and thought I really wanted to try that so that day I finally got my chance! And I said scenario, it was one of the first cooler evenings that we have experienced here in Belmont Shores... When we arrived at the restaurant the inside was pretty packed so we had to sit outside which wasn't a problem, I would've had an asked for a heating lamp because it's something that is offered pretty much across all of second Street! That took about 10 to 15 minutes to come out which soaked because it was really cold. So me and my mom and my daughter proceed and orderFood but taking my my daughter already ordered debris that she wanted... My mom and I both ordered our meals I ordered the Gyro with Lamb and fries and she ordered the Grilled chicken and for an appetizer we picked the Hummus and pita... Put some love into it guys! The Hummus came out and it was just plopped on the plate, the pita were cold cold just not enjoyable and then not to mention the manager walks up and tells my kid on her birthday she can't eat her burrito at the table so for the remainder of our meal my kid refused to eat her burrito Bc she didn't want us to get in trouble( god bless my little law obeying kid but eat the burrito) lol .... Great little spot for Greek cuisine. There's a good amount of options, although I expected more, and only 1 vegan option for the meat-less eaters. I love the murals, and the back seating with the vines & grapes lining the ceiling. There's also an upstairs section for seating, and patio tables out front. I got the beef kabob sandwich which is wrapped in pita bread. The only thing was it was kinda hard to eat because it was large kabob pieces of steak. It also got pretty messy while eating. The flavor was perfect, it's just that the meat should have been diced or at least cut into smaller pieces. The fries were really good, but the rice was just so-so. Went in for a birthday dinner. They were very accommodating for a party of 8. The server was very good & kept up with all our needs. For an appetizer we had the saganaki. The cheese with the brined olives was amazing. A great appetizer. For my main course I had the stuffed salmon combo. Was not overly impressed with the dish. The stuffed salmon was a little dry with a small amount of feta spinach stuffing. The rice was good. As far as the vegetable combo of carrots and broccoli, the broccoli was done just right. The carrots, however, were undercooked. I would not order this dish again. They seem to specialize in lamb chops. They looked very good. I would definitely try those next time I go back. read more

The balance between all their dishes evoke the satisfaction you look for in eating amazing and fresh Greek food. I have been away from Yelp for a little over three years, but yesterday Vesta and I had a wonderful lunch at George's Greek Cafe in Belmont Shore that made me want to come back and now that I have, I think I'll stay for awhile. I used to Yelp a lot, but sometimes stuff happens that changes your life. Vesta and I are photographers and our business in Reno took off and took a lot more time than we were used to, plus I'm a writer and I was working on a couple books, more time taken, and in addition we had a lot of difficult personal stuff we had to deal with, stuff no family should ever have to deal with, but we did. Then when we got everything under control and caught up, Covid came and stole our business, our freedom and a lot more. Before Covid, we ate out at least three times a week. And after it was over, (well it's not really over, but close) we swore we'd never hang out with strangers again and that meant never going to the movies again, never going to Costco again, never eating out again and never doing so much more again. And since our business was gone, we decided to move from Reno, a place we dearly love, back to Long Beach, where we grew up, because, we figured, if we couldn't go indoors with strangers, we could at least go to the beach. And we told ourselves we'd be really careful, but careful as we were, we still caught Covid. Fortunately, because we were so vaccinated, we had relatively mild cases. But even so, we still stayed in. Then awhile back, friends from back East came to town and they wanted to buy us dinner. And that created a dilemma for us, because we didn't wanna seem like a couple scaredy cats so we went to Belmont Shore and looked for what we thought would be the safest restaurant and of them all, and there are a lot, we picked George's Greek Cafe, solely because the tables in its parklet (curbside dining space that used to be curbside parking) seemed to be spaced farther apart than the tables in the other restaurant's parklets. And I must say that meal was maybe the best we'd ever had. Oh sure, maybe it was because it was the first time we'd been out to eat in well over a year. But a couple months later friends from France came and when they wanted to know where we wanted to go for dinner, we picked George's, because we so enjoyed our first time there so much. And now we're back to eating out, going to Costco and Malls and parks and Trader Joe's and Grocery Stores, so we can eat out wherever we want now, and we've tried some other restaurants and most of them have been pretty good. But for reasons I don't know, we haven't enjoyed them the way we have George's. So, yesterday, we decided to take a two and a half mile walk from home to George's for lunch and, low and behold, their lunch was as good as their dinner. And we really, really enjoyed the Saganaki, which is sort of a flaming cheese appetizer. Sadly, writing a Yelp review was the last thing on my mind when we started our walk, and because it was such a long way to go on foot, I didn't bring a camera. So now we have to go back in a couple days and have it again, so I can photograph either Nikki or Gaby, the two wonderful people who served us, lighting the cheese on fire and add the photo or photos to this review.
