I purchased a cake for Passover and on the evening of the first night I went to serve the cake and could not get the knife through it. We joked that maybe i had put an iced styrofoam cake on the table. once i made the second cut i could not extract the knife from the cake. the cake had no taste and was so dense unedible. I tried to return the cake and the manager of George's shop and bag was arrogant, condescending and unwilling to make good on it. Had he been even the least little bit polite I could have accepted it But he was as unpleasant as it gets. This was my first bad experience with this store in the 50 years that i have patronized it. I will not go back and be subjected to that individual again. read more

Excellent independent grocery store in Dresher. They sell high quality products (including produce, butcher and seafood) and are reasonably priced. I like the size of the store, as it's big enough to have everything you need without being so large that it takes all day to walk through it. As some others have mentioned, the deli can be slow. It would be nice if they invested in electronic kiosks so you could place an order and come back to pick it up after you have finished shopping. It's nice that they recently added a section where you can buy wine and beer. Employees are very friendly and helpful. It feels like a family-owned business, which it is. read more

Very nice market to shop at in the Dreshertown Area. Store was exceptionally clean when I went looking for a dessert to bring to a house party in the area. We ended up getting a few different kinds of cookies as they had a good selection. Some of the items are a bit high priced but lately I am noticing if you want to go to a nice clean store in a nice area I guess you have to shell out a few more bucks for the experience. This location is a bit out of the way for me but highly recommend you stop in and check it out if you are in the area. I know I am always looking for different grocery stores to shop at so you can pick up items that do not make your pantry too mundane and boring. Stopped by George's Market and was surprised at the selection of fresh made items at the deli. We split an Italian grinder with all the fixings and it was fantastic! We also got a small container of sushi that was also very good. Both items were very fresh. I strongly recommend this place if you want lots of options for a lunchtime meal. read more

Amazing supermarket!!! This place has an extensive hot food section with many freshly prepared choices to pick from. They have pasta salads and house made sushi. The dessert section is loaded with house made selections for your eating pleasure. I literally wanted to buy everything there today. It's an amazing, yet overwhelming experience. If you work around here and want to pick up some lunch or wanted to pick up an easy dinner, I would definitely recommend this place. They even have an old school shoe shiner in the entrance way. I stopped into George's Market to return some items as well as get some fresh salads at the delicious salad bar. I am fairly new to your store and all of its policies, so I thought I'd give it a try. Two events gave me bad vibes, so I don't think I'll be coming here often. 1. The lady at the customer service desk didn't seem to be very friendly. Two of the items I needed to return were opened but barely used, and instead of nicely explaining your store policy, (which I clearly do not know) , she was abrupt with me. 2. I wanted to take home some empty plastic containers for my salads. I didn't know that 100% empty salad containers still cost something. When the woman at the register saw them in my cart (and not on the conveyer belt) she wasn't very friendly about it. I told her that I honestly did know know that empty containers still cost $1.25 each. It was an honest mistake. She was abrupt as well. Again, it's a beautiful store but because of the service I received today I don't think I'll be making this my main go to place for groceries. read more

When I go to George's, I always have the same kind of experience: exceptional! They never disappoint. To the fresh produce, the delicious baked goods, the hot and fresh dinners, and the amazing customer service, I actually look forward to buying my groceries! The friendly staff adds to the welcoming atmosphere. They are always greeting customers with a smile and go above and beyond to make sure we find everything we need, even when they have a million other things going on. This was especially true when everyone thought the world was ending in 2020. George's consistently made sure their customers felt safe in an uncertain time. Wow. My mother used to shop here when we lived here back in the 80s, and when I was passing through this weekend and needed some tonic water, I stopped in for old time's sake. The old girl could really use a face-lift. (The Shop-n-Bag, not my mother.) It hasn't changed a bit in 20 years (wish I could say the same), down to the 30-foot 70s-script teal green sign on the front. Not a bad market, but a little small and really outclassed by the Whole Foods concept, as well as the actual stores, although the deli section was clean and fresh and there were a few little old ladies handing out samples. The cashiers are still local teenagers, all skinny, gum-chewing zit farmers, but they seemed to have fun with each other even if they weren't talking to the customers. Probably deserves two stars, but the giant teal-green sign is way worth an extra star. read more

I have been shopping here since before my 26 year old daughter was in the front of the grocery cart. Many of the same cashiers are still there and are always friendly and efficient. The deli is fast (I realize how spoiled I am when going to other stores) The food variety is wide and if I have ever asked them to carry something they have always done so or at least tried. Many years ago when I had serious back issues, they always helped me with no expectation of reward. I am constantly reminded every time I go of why I am there. The owners are always visible and clearly care about their store. Simple story, one day it was pouring (I mean deluge) and the owner was out there at the overhang with an umbrella running with you to the car, then you drive up and they pack your car. Who else does that? No one! They support almost every local cause (which I admire). Just the fact that the same clerks have been there for years and years tells me how well they treat their employees. I love the fresh fish section, and they also have a great organic and gluten free section too. Pretty large supermarket with nice wide isles and friendly employees. Dresher shop and bag is growing on me. At first the outside appearance really threw me off but this is a perfect example of when not to judge a book by it's cover. They actually have wonderful produce and a ton of unique items. They even have organic produce and other organic item. I really like that they have local companies come in and give samples of their products. Just last week I bought pickles from a local co that I may have overlooked if I hadn't sampled them. The staff is also very nice and friendly and they often have good deals on seasonal flowers and plants. They're salad bar is awesome and the prepared foods are always good. The sushi is actually pretty good. I wouldn't do my weekly grocery shopping here because it's quite small but I do frequent it for a quick lunch or if I need something to make for dinner. read more

I drive past approximately 15 grocery stores and for 25+ mins to get to George's. Their hot bar is excellent, their selection is surprisingly diverse/upscale and their employees are friendly, but all of that is an afterthought when considering their bakery. I have paid 5x what they charge for 1/2 the quality of what they give you in cakes, cookies and cupcakes. It's gourmet level for grocery store prices (cheaper!). Just today the employees there went above and beyond for me, too long a story for a review but my three kids and I left full, satisfied and happy with customer service that was BEYOND EXCELLENT from both the bakery and the cashier (during her busy lunch time). For instance: - The best fish counter in the Philly metro area. This is the place to come if you want fresh, not frozen Arctic Char (other groceries will tell you it's too expensive to stock this, but George's Dresher ShopNBag most recently had it for less than the cost of the Fresh Wild Sockeye Salmon that they also stock, -Kaplan rye bread, baked fresh every day. This is REAL rye bread, not the soft-crusted pathetic imitation you see in the bread aisle. -A fabulous bakery. Looking for something special for dessert at your dinner party? Pick up a selection of single-slice chocolate mousse cake, cheese cakes, etc. -A separate Kosher deli, meat section and grocery section -store-packaged bulk items such as shelled almonds, sunflower seeds, hazelnuts, etc. at way better prices than the manufacturer packaged grocery stuff -Prepared food as good as that of any other grocery, if not better. My family and I have shopped at George's Market for 20+ years with satisfaction. On Friday, ground beef was purchased through the meat department, brought home, and stored in the refrigerator immediately. On Sunday morning, the meat was brown and had developed an odor. I took the meat back to George's customer service to request a refund. Upon my request, I was confronted with the manager who, in a very rude and condescending tone, TWICE accused me of leaving the meat in the car, therefore insinuating that this was my fault. I did not receive a refund or even an apology. What happened to any respect for the customer? Their customer service is all they have left to differentiate themselves from the competition that is gunning for them. If they can't provide adequate customer service to people who have been patronizing their store for the last 30 years they're going to lose that customer base and go out of business. I will be taking my business elsewhere from now on and I will be sure to share my experience with others. Truly disappointed. read more

I have been shopping at George's for over 20 years and have always found it to be the best deli, meat, fish, bakery, and so much more. This weekend I had them cater a party and they far exceeded my expectations! Monica was extremely helpful, accommodating, and friendly. The appetizers were all so good and each had their own dipping sauce, The sushi was delicious and a huge hit. I feel incredibly lucky to live near such a great store. Easy parking, friendly staff, always well-stocked, amazing fish, amazing bakery, quick check-out and you don't have to walk miles to get to the dairy section. I brought one of their specialty-baked key lime pies to a meeting with me, and people were jealous that I had something so great nearby. They have everything you need. There is a larger Giant nearby that frequently doesn't have what I'm looking for (and usually only has 2 checkers on), but George's is small and yet manages to carry everything good. Is this where to go to stock up on staples and paper goods? No, because they don't have the very lowest prices. But on the other hand, they're not horribly expensive, either, so I don't feel guilty dropping in to pick up a few things, or re-stocking fresh food mid-week. I can't believe someone down-rated it because it wasn't huge like Whole Paycheck, or wasn't new-looking outside. It's clean and attractive inside, and they always have just the right number of checkers read more

I love this little neighborhood grocery store! It's a hidden gem. They might not carry everything I want but they carry everything I need - and when I have asked them to order something special they have done it without hesitation. The chain grocery stores in this area - Giant, Whole Foods Jenkintown, and Acme - are terrible and their customer service is abysmal. At George's they ALWAYS call you to follow up on questions. And they try their best to fill your requests. Recently I couldn't find the multi-packs of fat-free Fig Newtons that have been a staple at their registers for as long as I have been shopping there. No one in the store could figure out why they were missing. I left my name and within a day I received a call saying a new supplier had stocked the store and didn't replenish the Fig Newtons. George's assured me that they still carry them and they would be there the next time I come in. The staff is friendly and you can tell that the customer care runs deep throughout the entire store - from top to bottom and from department to department. Anytime I have ever asked a question or needed help finding something there is always someone on the floor to ask - and they help me with pride and sincere care. I wish they were a little closer to me but I still drive there to do all of my general shopping. read more
