I have never posted a negative review on line, mostly because we are almost always happy with the customer services we receive from restaurants, hotels and retail businesses. However, I want to warn others about Georgetown Jewelry, located at 3010 Williams Drive, Georgetown, TX. Our family has frequented Georgetown Jewelry and we have interfaced with Ricky Poe, the owner, from time to time. Recently, they did a small repair for me which was fine. While I was picking up the item, Ricky offered to steam clean my rings, which I appreciated. While he was doing that, I was browsing the items in the counter and noticed a watch. When Ricky came back with my rings, I inquired about the watch. He told me he acquired it from someone who had worn it twice. It turned out to be an unusual Rolex watch. I asked to see the watch and then asked the price - he said $3,200. I said I would think about it and he immediately offered to reduce the price to $2,800. About that time, my husband joined me in the store and we had a pleasant discussion with Ricky about various things. He again told us he would sell the watch for $2,800. We asked if he bought Rolex watches as well and he said he did and that he would pay "top dollar" for them. We said that we had a men's Rolex that my husband no longer wears and that we would go home and discuss it - he gave us his card and we left. We talked about it and decided that we would call Ricky and tell him we were interested in the watch and would also bring our watch in for him to see and offer a price for it. We agreed to meet the next afternoon. When we got there at 1:30, we apparently interrupted his lunch. He came out from his office and his whole demeanor was cold and completely different from the day before. There were no greetings or pleasantries; he just said "what do you have?" I set the Rolex box on the counter with all of the papers and certificate. He had mentioned the day before that having that additional information would increase the price. He took the watch out of the box and immediately began telling us what was wrong with the watch - the band was stretched out and his dealer who would buy the watch would have to spend $1,500 to replace it. He said the crystal needed to be replaced and the watch cleaned - several hundred more dollars. He offered us $1,000 for the watch. I never got a chance to tell him that the paperwork I brought included receipts for replacing the crystal and cleaning the watch. We were expecting more for our watch (I had traded a women's Rolex 7 years ago that was the same age and got $1,800 for it). So we said if we wanted the watch, he would give us $1,000 and pay an additional $1,800 for his Rolex, correct? He said he didn't want to sell at that price (total of $2,800 - what he had quoted the day before) because he was "accountable" to others (his wife?). He stated he would sell the watch outright for $2,800, but if a trade was involved, the price was going to be $3,200. My husband said he didn't understand the math - if Ricky gave us $1,000 for our watch and we turned around and gave him back the $1,000 plus $1,800, how was that different than us paying $2,800? He got very belligerent and said that he would still lose money paying us $1,000 for the Rolex (we wondered why would a business person would buy something that he would sell for less than what he paid?). He also stated that he would be losing money selling the watch for $2,800 and he could "easily sell it" for $3,200. We suspect that he had a change of heart. He could have called me and said he had talked to his business partner and couldn't sell the watch for $2,800 after all. Instead we went to his store with the intention of making a deal and were treated so rudely. We left the store without comment although there was plenty we wanted to say. His behavior was so bizarre it was unsettling. By the way, when we got home, we called our long-time jeweler in Plano and he said he would give $1,500 sight unseen for our Rolex, plus more if all the papers were in order. He also said he could find any watch we wanted. He confirmed that any reputable jeweler would honor a quoted price and treat a trade the same as cash. My husband also called and spoke with the owner of Quenan's Jewelers when we got home. Despite it being the Saturday before Christmas, Steve, the owner took the time to confirm what our Plano jeweler also said - that a trade is the same as cash. We look forward to doing business with Quenan's Jewelers in the near future. Sometimes people post negative reviews with retaliation in mind. In reading other reviews, I saw nothing but sincere people writing thoughtful and detailed accounts of their experiences. I can live with rude people but the ones who cross the line into behavior that provokes fear in others should be avoided. read more

You're fool to do business with this arse hole! After reading all the reviews, you can see which days he was off his meds. He's so rude, along with his daughter. You can see the apple did not fall far from the tree. But, he's the biggest scammer, and I am so glad I laughed at him when he tried he's pitch me his appraisal scam. I stepped (biggest mistake) into his store to sell my gold, not an appraisal, and he wanted to pitch me a $250 appraisal fee to price my gold on five or more pieces if I did not sell my gold. I was there to sell my gold, not get an appraisal- if so, I was so being taking to the cleaners for what he's was trying to sell (scam) me (he offer)! I hope not too many has fallen for the scam when selling their gold or silver at his store... basically, he doesn't want your business if you're not willing to adhere to his terms. I took my grandmothers ring in to get resized and have a missing stone replaced. From the minute I walked in I was greeted by THE kindest man, I think he's the owner but I could be making that up! He walked me through what they would do, the price, and when they would be done with it. He said when I came back in to get it (5 days.. I think) it would probably look like a different ring. They called me right on time to tell me my ring was ready and I went before work because I just couldn't wait. I was not disappointed! It was gorgeous! I started crying, it is so beautiful and I know my grandma would be so happy to see it! And the best part was it was very reasonable as far as price goes, I never felt like they were trying to up sell you or get you something you didn't need. Love this place! Horrible experience - Gave them a simple job to solder on several gold charms to a bracelet. Not only did it take over 10 days, but the workmanship was the worst I've ever seen (have had many charms soldered to brackets). The charms were not in the position I place them, some on backwards, the links were mangles and not soldered. When I told the owner it was the worst job I'd ever seen, outlining all the issues, he became verbally abusive, telling me, among other things, that I was rude.....I guess customers opinions & facts don't matter. He them grabbed the bracelet from my hand, saying he would fix it......when he had time. I was very upset and shaken by the verbal attack - left the store. As I was not sure it would be fixed properly, and with his angry outburst, decided that it would be best if I just went back, paid the quote/bill, get my bracelet and take it somewhere else to fix the mess. So with my hubby, we went back. Ask for my bracelet and said we would just pay the bill. He again became verbally abusive, refused to give me my bracelet. When we insisted, to let us pay and give me my bracelet, he demanded we leave the store or he would call the police.....I said I was not leaving until he returned my property. He proceeded to call the police on us.........not only did he make up things/statements to the police he accused us of all sorts of untrue things. What an awful way to do business. Long story short - we got the bracelet, paid our bill and will NEVER go in that horrible place again. This was our first experience dealing with custom jewelry of any kind, and we were looking to make a custom engagement ring. I had a band from my grandparents as well as my grandmothers ring with 16 diamonds and a marquise cut emerald in the center that I wanted to use for my ring. I wanted to use only the gold and diamonds and get the emerald returned to me. Our first meeting with Ricky was a delight he said he would call back with an estimate, which he did the next day which was great. My boyfriend and I ended up changing our design to a more unique art deco style ring. We asked and made sure it was possible, we met with Jordan, Ricky's son, and he assured us that he could do it. He emailed me an electronic draft of the ring and how it would look as well as made a wax mold just to make sure the size was what I was looking for. I had some concerns about the bulkiness of the center halo and explained how the designed I choose was single pronged and I didn't want it to be a plate that the diamonds were just placed in. I also had concerns on how the baguette diamonds that stuck out from the top and bottom weren't touching and how in the picture I liked that they were touching so it was more cohesive. He assured me the only reason the ring looked odd was because it was a wax mold and it was hard to shape with the time he was given. Again up to this point they were nothing but kind and respectful. It took about three weeks from the moment we gave them the go to create the ring and let us know it was complete. When my boyfriend went to pick it up he just paid and left. I saw the ring that night and was livid, because not only did I not get my grandmothers emerald back, the ring I was given looked EXACTLY like everything I said I did not want. It looked just like the wax mold they showed us and that nothing I had said had been changed. It sat in a box from 5 pm 10/15 till I returned it at 1pm 10/16 and yet was already missing a diamond in the center halo. When I went to return the ring I dealt with Ricky's wife who did not understand why I was so upset because to her the rings looked identical, which they didn't and everyone who I showed the ring to via text said it was completely different and poorly made. I told her that I wanted it fixed without paying more money since I had already spent alot or I wanted my money back. That's when Jordan came from the back and aggressively shouted to just give us our money back. This was the first time we had experienced anger and aggression from this business. As Cynthia, I think, wrote a check Jordan took the ring away and I said that I still wanted the ring because it was made from my grandparents ring and used diamonds I provided, he then pulled out the rings he was SUPPOSED to use and said, "Oh you mean these rings" as if trying to show us up. He then explained how he didn't know he was supposed to use them but if that was the case why did I not get money for them? Anyways while his wife was writing the check the check, I explained how grateful I was for all the effort and time they put in my ring and I apologized for it not turning out the way I wanted. She then snapped at me saying "Clearly not because you're upset". At that point I was livid at the way we had been treated when we were just trying to get it fixed, I grabbed the check and said thank you and Cynthia responded "bye". I have never experienced such disrespect and rudeness in a company setting. I was so shocked at how kind they were when we were paying them they were, then when we commented on the mistake and asked for a fix, they were rude and no longer treated us like customers. DO NOT GO HERE. I would never recommend this place for anyone,family or friend and I would wish no service like this upon any stranger. Save your money and go to Downtown Georgetown or The Jeweler in Georgetown, for great work, loads of experience, and way better quality. Never again. read more

See store receipt. Ricky Poe told me he was going to Houston to drop off some watches and would take my watch as well. The receipt shows a ready date of 6/5/2017. Returned to store for estimate, but no estimate. I called the office several days later, and no estimate. Went to the store to pick up the watch, but watch was at a local repair shop and had not been looked at. I told the store lady to forget the ESTIMATE, and bring the watch back to their shop. The store lady passed this information to Ricky, who was at the repair shop. The lady told me it would in there store tomorrow. I decided not to do have anything done to it as it was taking them way too long. Two days later I returned to the jeweler to get my watch, and they presented me with a BILL instead of a ESTIMATE. I asked what the cost was and Ricky told me it was what we agreed up on, $350. I told him I wanted an estimate, not a bill. Ricky said he would lower the fee by $50. I told him the watch was not worth $350 or $300. He told me there would be no charge, but he was going to remove the parts they installed. I had no problem with that. Ten days later I got a call from their shop to come and pick up my watch, NO CHARGE. I picked up the watch, but they didn't take back their parts? When I got home I tried to wind the watch and see if it worked, and it didn't. It did work the 1st day I took it to their shop. All I wanted done was a new faceplate, hands straightened, and cleaned I got curious so I removed the back of the watch and saw the reason why it wasn,t working. Someone put something; maybe putty or glue, on the main drive shaft that drives the rest of the gears. I was able to remove the putty with a dental tool and it works fine NOW. It appears to me that someone tried to retaliate by putting in a area ; hard to see, to stop the watch from running or ruin the watch. See watch picture below of receipt an watch with back removed. To complicate things, my wife talked to Ricky Poe about repairing my watch for my birthday. She told him she would pay up to $350. on repairs, thinking they still had my Bulova Spaceview watch. They had my spaceview a few weeks earlier, but was unable to repair it. I had it repaired in Alpine, TX on 6/8/2017. 1. The watch never went to Houston for a ESTIMATE like I was told. 2. They had a local repair man do the repairs, but not in his shop? 3. I got a BILL instead of a ESTIMATE, that ended up being canceled. 4. Watch was dropped off May 5 2017 and returned late July....too long. See receipt from their shop. 5. Communication was poor as i was told several different things by them that never happened. 6. It appears to me that there was an attempt to sabotage my watch .See picture showing the back of watch exposed. Look close and you can see the filler that was used. i still have filler/putty in case I need it later. I came in just under 3 weeks from Christmas and had a beautiful round brilliant diamond that needed a white gold band to put it in. Every store in the area from Parmer Lane all the way through Plfugerville, Round Rock, and Georgetown had sub-par bands for ridiculous prices, and equally as ridiculous prices for setting the stone and cleaning the soon to be set. The minute I walked in Georgetown Jewelers, I could feel the family environment from Ricky, his lovely wife, their son Jodan and their willingness to go above and beyond to help. They offered me the best price for my scrap, and provided me with the best band I had seen in over a dozen stores. The stone fit like Cinderella's glass slipper. Even though it was that close to Christmas and they were swamped, they made sure it was not just set, but when I picked it up the ring looked like a 5 figure ring from Jared. They will be sizing it for free and have offered to have it cleaned whenever my bride to be wants! They are WONDERFUL. Take it from someone who shopped around for 6 months and take the time to go there first. You won't find better deals or more willingness to help. Oh, and I almost forgot. Kinda rude. Comes across as a watch snob. Asked a few questions about selling and buying luxury watches. He then made a call to a buyer, and after hanging up, He looked at me and said good luck. Did not explain why they would not want to buy any of my Rolex or Omega watches. I had no intention to sell to him anyway, just wanted some info. He then went on how he is part of an organization that buys watches.. blah, blah. I understood it as being part of an organization that takes advantage of people. Buying very low and selling high. I would assume that if I worked with jewelry and watches all day I would have an extensive knowledge of the business too. That being said I would not treat people as if they were stupid. Warning! I can honestly relate to the Dan S review- Nov. 2016 I went into georgetown jewelers looking for a 14K gold chain for my grandson . The owner very kindly was showing me one that he said was from an estate sale. I mistakenly asked if it was stamped 14K at which time he rudely informed me he didn"t want my business. I left but went back into the store & ask him why he would treat me like that. He said I was questioning his integrity so now we were even. At our Christmas party I won a $100.00 dollar gift certificate from "The georgetown Jewelers" so I took my 27 yr old grandson in to purchase a silver chain & cross. I was again treated kindly -( Ricky even patted my hand & thanked me for coming back. ) The chain & cross had to be ordered from a catalog - I did get it in time for Christmas but the chain was shorter than we needed and the cross was hollow and not good quality. I returned & asked for a replacement .I paid the difference in price & received a second cross - but it was not what I picked out- again from a catalog. I chose a second necklace but was told it was on back order. After 2 wks I called to check & ask if they would check on it & let me know. When I didn't hear from them I stopped in the store & was told by Cyndee it was still on back order. I asked if I could order something else at which time she said they weren't ordering anything else for me. My response was that I didn't understand how they did business. Again this upset Ricky who stated I didn't need to be rude & demanded I leave the store. He stated they had given out several certificates & had had nothing but trouble. (Really?). I ask him for a second certificate that I could at least give to someone else. He refused and just demanded I leave. when I didn't he proceeded to call the police. I was on the phone trying to determine if money had been exchanged for the certificate. Ricky stands 6 ft tall - I am a 91 year old woman who stands 5 ft & has never even had a parking ticket . The police were courteous & issued a warning ticket that I was not to return to the store. ( Not that I ever would.) I was left with only deep humiliation. Took my wedding set to have the band fixed as it had worn through on the bottom and developed a crack. I was greeted by the nicest lady and gentleman. Turns out they are the owners. I love this family run business. I picked up my ring a few days later and it looked beautiful....perfect!!! I brought my broken necklace to this store and it was estimated to be a reasonable $20 to fix. When I picked it up, along with my tennis bracelet (which was also to be repaired), the necklace was not repaired, but I was charged the full amount. When I questioned why I was charged for something that was never repaired he got defensive and refused a refund. Why charge the full amount for a repair which was never completed? I'll not be going back and nor will my friends or family. read more

Unhappy. My wife took in my Gucci watch for repair when it quit working after 15 years. They said they would have to completely replace the inside of the watch and quoted $180, which my wife agreed to. When picking up the watch they said that it's practically a new watch with a one-year warranty. After about 3-4 months, it would stop and restart sometime later...sometimes 15 minutes, sometimes for a day or two. We took it back and after a week, give or take, they said they had to replace the gasket and it was good to go. About a month or two later the watch began to stop again, the same way it did earlier. We took it back again and this time they said there was a little rust inside and told us the watch is not waterproof, like it's my fault. I picked up the watch today and addressed this. I tell the guy that I don't wear the watch in the water and he smirks while telling me that he doesn't know how else water would get inside. I told him that maybe water got inside when there was a problem with the gasket that they told us they replaced the first time we had to take it in for warranty work. The guy first started telling me that watches need maintenance. He then asked if I was going to pay for the repair work, which I paid for months ago and was only back because the watch keeps stopping. So much for practically a new watch. And then blame me. I've owned the watch and wore it everyday for 15 years but supposedly I don't know how to care for it after their repair job, which was crap. If you can't repair it properly, don't say you can. They're using the business model where everything is geared toward getting your money and then fighting with the customer to keep the money even when they don't provide what they said they would. The guy was a sarcastic schmuck on top of everything else. They did not correctly repair my watch and are now blaming me, which makes me angrier than the the poor repair job. Their watch repair work is substandard and so is the schmuck's customer service. read more

Will never step foot in this place again. Called and asked if they were interested in buying jewelry and was told that they were. I asked for what he paid for gold and he wouldn't answer. I explained that I had several pieces that I had not been through yet and asked if I should just bring a few and was told just to bring it in and we could go through it there. So, I did. As we went through, there were several pieces they were not interested in, which is fine. When we got to something he was and was offered a low price (turns out he only pays 60% of spot), he got angry when we chose not to accept that price and said he wouldn't look at anything else unless we wanted to pay him an appraisal fee. Then he proceeded to be very rude and antagonistic. We gathered up our things and left and he followed us out of the store glaring the whole time. Very strange behavior and certainly not a good customer experience. My wife and I were amazed that an adult would behave like this especially one claiming to want our business.
