I have been to Dacha for a casual dinner with a friend, for a birthday dinner with my mom and her partner, for an intimate date with my wife, for a special event they held (Georgian Food prix fixe) and for a wedding celebration. Every single time I have felt so very warmly welcomed, nourished and taken care of. This is a unique experience in the San Francisco restaurant scene. Dacha means "summer home", it's a special family getaway and that is how coming to Dacha feels. The beautiful couple that owns the restaurant, Katya and Suki, have put their entire heart and soul into this space. I had been planning to visit Dacha for brunch for a long time, so I was really looking forward to finally coming here. Unfortunately, this time I left feeling like something was just missing. First of all, their steamer was broken, so the only coffee available was black coffee. Coffee is an essential part of breakfast for me, so that was disappointing. I feel like at a place that focuses on brunch and breakfast, it would be nice to have a good variety of coffee options and different kinds of milk. That said, I really enjoyed the syrniki! I especially liked the slightly brûléed, caramelized top -- it was a fun and unique idea, almost like crème brûlée. Unfortunately, the draniki didn't impress me at all. They were quite hard, especially around the edges, and not juicy at all. The buckwheat with meat also had very little flavor and felt like it was missing salt and seasoning. I honestly don't want to leave a bad review or give the place a low rating because I really like the concept of Dacha, the atmosphere, and the people behind it. I genuinely want to support what they are trying to create. But at the same time, I want my review to be honest, and unfortunately, my experience this time wasn't very positive. I truly wish the team lots of success and hope everything comes together for them. First time dinner here. We were not sure what to order so asked for recommendation. We got - eggplant roll. Great start - Chicken cutlet - they were like better version of chicken cordon Bleu lightly battered. - We had the super green soup. This fairly new highly rated restaurant serves delicious recipes authentic Eastern European food. Their beet borscht brings us back memories of my grandmothers. Not only is the food great, but their service is very attentive. In addition to the obvious stairs to to the elevated platform, where most of the seating is, they also have a lift for those who find stairs challenging. Best in class! Oops! Very good experience on a Saturday night with my husband and our daughter! I booked a table for 6:15pm and the restaurant was not busy! We seated immediately and we ordered a few items to share: the eggplant roll, the mushroom Piroshki, the goulash and the trout. My favorite was the goulash! I don't eat meat anymore at home, but sometimes when I go out I still do, and the beef meat was perfectly cooked! Also the trout was good and my daughter ate almost the entire portion. The piroshki was ok, but there was something missing for me! My least favorite were the eggplants rolls...the bitterness of the eggplants covered everything! We shared a glass of wine and at the end the honey cake (it was delicious). Overall was a very good experience, and I'd love to try other plates and the brunch menu! Tables for two are tiny though so from time to time we had hard times rotating the plates while sharing. Food: Syrniki were our favorite! Soft and juicy with a bit crunchy brûlée outside + raspberry sauce on the side. Top notch! Rustic Benedict was flavorful and full of texture thanks for crisp potato pancakes they used instead of muffins. The dessert - Pavlova cake was a bit bland though. Too much sweet cream and just a little of the fruit filling which supposed to make the taste more diverse. The other downside was the $9 for still water. We came here on July 4th. The interior and exterior are really well decorated, with nice ambiance and background music. The highlight of the meal were the eggplant rolls -- I wouldn't have expected avocado puree to go well with eggplant but it was delicious! Modern, Russian fusion cuisine at it's best. I got the privledge to enjoy the DACHA Goulash, the beef was very tender with the sauce covering it really added depth to the meat's flavor. The Lamb Chop Mangal definitely tasted gamey, if you like the taste of lamb you're gonna love the flavor of this dish, it doesn't get hidden. I would skip the pirogi, a small portion of 1 for $10 and nothing special you can't get at a Russian bakery. Tea was flavorful, lasted 3 of us throughout the dinner (with hot water refills). For dessert we had 3 options, but 1 was out, so we got the honey cake and settled for the pavlova. Honey cake was the definite favorite, dense and creamy, exactly how it should be. The service was intimate. We had the host, bartender, and server checking up on us frequently. To be fair we had the place to ourselves the first half of dinner (around opening 5pm, then people started crowding in around 6). We are visiting from out-of-town and our friends from Petaluma recommended this place because they had seen it on an episode of "Check, Please" (PBS) and they decided that since I am from New Orleans (and like to fancy myself a bit of a foodie) that I might enjoy this delightful restaurant. It's rare these days that I want to give a restaurant 5 freaking stars, but Dacha earned it! We went on Halloween and the place was fully decked out with decorations with a DJ cranking the beats out! For starters, the service was on point; our waitress was attentive and provided great recommendations. The food was masterful in preparation and presentation. I was pretty underwhelmed by this place. I had high hopes, but a lot of the foods were bland or just off, flavor-wise. Drinks were pretty good: interesting and unique. The server had their own "secret drink" which we quite enjoyed. Portions were tiny (which would be fine if the flavors were more on point). Had to be shared, only fair to share, but a real standout and nothing like a stroganoff you've tried. Yes, their protein choices amount to a big swing which the chef knocked out of the park. Be brave. You will be rewarded. The Herb Cake (cut from the menu "Soft herb sponge cake served with delicate cowberry mousse, topped with a thin strawberry jelly and a sprinkle of crushed walnuts.") Though i also really enjoyed the Honey Cake. If you can find a way to portion out the rich chocolate honeycomb on top so you get a little chocolate in every honey cake bite, i think it's a balanced flavor combination. DO NOT pass on the Sea Buckthorn tea with dessert! We were already googling where to buy this hearty and beautiful shrub from Washington State nursery's after one sip. Also loved the Tarkhun (Tarragon Lemonade). Mushroom piroshki was very very good. Dacha knows their mushrooms. Looking forward to coming back with a larger group and trying the fried potatoes with oyster mushrooms next. Even with it being a uncharacteristically warm Saturday evening, the Slavic stew was delicious. There are many many unique flavors hidden within this one and whether it was the pork or the chicken or the vegetables we both had goosebumps on every fourth bite. Very excited for the salmon with beet puree and yellow bell pepper pineapple sauce and the scallops on our next visit (we're taking mom and dad). Parking can be a challenge in this area, though there are four parking garages within a block and a half in every direction in including the SFMTA Polk and Bush garage. I love trying different brunch spots around SF and was excited to come to this Eastern European restaurant for their weekend brunch. We weren't feeling super hungry so ended up getting the Mama's Dacha Breakfast and Syrniki Brulee to share which ended up being a great sweet and savory pairing. Our server asked if we wanted to add an egg as the dish comes with three eggs and we happily took her up on it. The Shuba salad was bigger than I expected, which was great, because I feel like I always need more food to feel full. The Rooibos tea was the best I've had in a long time. The Slavic Stew was an interesting and delicious blend of ingredients. The Syrniki is as amazing as it looks with absolutely perfect balance of sweetness and textures. The Egg & Spring Onion Piroshki was surprisingly light and easy to eat though it did not shine as brightly as the other dishes. The space is clean and modern yet welcoming. This also applies to the restrooms which are large and have enormous sinks. No bumping hands against the sink getting under the water. Service was extremely friendly and attentive.
