About a month ago we took the grandparents here for lunch. It's always a great place to visit with them because they get to eat delicious Russian food without having to cook it themselves, it's a wonderful treat. Grandparents enjoyed their Borsch (beef, cabbage & beet soup) and Solyanka (smoked meats, tomato & lemon soup) as well as the appetizers Olivier (chicken salad with potatoes, pickles, eggs, carrots & peas) and Blintzes (stuffed with beef, served with smetana). I always order the Beef Stroganoff here and it never disappoints. It's beef with mushrooms in a cream sauce that's covered with a flaky dough crust that is puffed up from cooking until you break it open to get to the yummy goodness on the inside. It's paired with kasha which is buckwheat and that is delightful. The service here is always great, and can sit around 50-60 people at max. It's not too bright or too dark in the restaurant, and during the lunch hour there's a great amount of natural sunlight that comes in the window. It's never been too packed each time we've visited as we bring the grandparents during the lunch hours. Prices vary from the $15 range to about $40 for main courses. I recommend giving them a visit if you're in the area and would like to try some delicious Russian food.

A gem! I love it here so much. Great date spot or for a big group dinner. Great staff. And so so delicious. Keep this place thriving it's what makes SF so great.

If you come from an Eastern European family, the menu offers exactly what babushka used to cook. The food is authentic, hand-prepared and delicious. The service was excellent. They also offer a nice selection of Geogian wines. An added bonus the wonderful art adorning the walls. I highly recommend this restaurant!

It's easy to stay in your food comfort zone, but where's the fun in that!? So when we had the opportunity to try a new cuisine that we've never tried before, we were super excited. Located on Clement St. in San Francisco, Red Raven has been opened since 2011 and serves traditional Eastern European favorites along with modern variations. Parking was luckily easy for us when we went (because you know how SF parking can be) and when you walk into the restaurant you are welcomed by friendly staff and red interior. We had a full lunch to make sure we get the full experience and we were absolutely impressed and truly enjoyed our meal. One thing we've never really done before is have sour cream with a lot of our dishes, and surprisingly it worked out really well! All the dishes we've had for the very first time, and now we're ready to have it all over again.

love trying new cuisines!! quaint and cozy spot on clement. favorites were Bulgarian salad (so fresh), beef stroganoff (great presentation and the meat was flavorful!), and the dessert which was a sweet/ savory combo and cheesy syrniki

This was my first time tying Eastern European food and I was completely blown away! It's such a cute atmosphere for a night out or romantic date and it feels like you're being transported to Europe! Being a first-timer, the servers were super attentive in explaining each dish and helping me figure out what I would and wouldn't like. Everything I ordered was so full of flavor and absolutely delish. I really liked the veal pelmeni which were super juicy and the beef stroganoff which had the most perfect flakey crust.

Tasty Russian comfort food classics. Good service. Minimal amount of pretense. But enough of a Russian vibe to create an ambiance. Not sure if its everyone's cup of tea but at least on the night of our visit the euro pop was going pretty strong - which - adds to the vibe. Everything we tried was delicious.

Excellent good and quite atmosphere. We've been there three times and aways enjoyed. Plenty of street parking if you get there early.

I will say the fries were a little salty but the Reuben was great, presentation was lovely, and the pretzel was very good. Love the mustard and curry ketchup they have. But my friend wanted to try it and I figured I'd just have the burger. That was, however, until I saw the Debreciner sausage on the plate of the woman at the table next to ours, and I thought, "I WANT THAT." Beautiful cooked, slightly spicy, with two kinds of mustard: A stoneground and a homemade yellow mustard that was absolutely delicious. It came with a potato dumpling which wasn't my thing -- but even without eating the dumplings, the sausage itself was extremely filling. My friend got the chicken schnitzel, which came with fries -- I usually don't have schnitzel, again, because I find it a bit too heavy -- but my friend said it was lighter than one would think, as were the fries. No room for dessert -- but we definitely want to return to check out other dishes. Also, our server could not have been lovelier! In the main room you walk through when you enter is artwork you should definitely check out -- it was done by the father of the chef back in the 1970s. Really interesting, striking work!

I got the pork blade chop for my entree and it was so good! The portion was huge as well, and I wasn't expecting that. I had already bookmarked this Austrian spot on my watchlist, and Mom readily agreed to go here after seeing their menu and Yelp photos of their SALZBURGER NOCKERL. NASCHMARKT Palo Alto is one of the trio of Austrian restaurants "coined after the largest open-air market in Vienna." Located off of bustling California Avenue, the eatery is on the quiet side of Birch Street, conveniently located across the street from a public parking lot. The venue includes distinct dining areas, offering both indoor and outdoor patio dining, along with a full bar and counter seating. The interior features a warm, cozy, yet refined European bistro feel. According to their website, NASCHMARKT "offers a unique culinary experience infusing California's flavors with Austrian kitchen delectability." They feature classic items like HOMEMADE PRETZEL ($16), SMOKED PORK BRATWURST ($17), CLASSIC WIENER SCHNITZEL (Pork Cutlet $36, Chicken Cutlet$36, Veal Cutlet $46), HUNGARIAN BEEF GOULASH ($44), alongside desserts like APPLE STRUDEL ($16) and SACHER TORTE ($16). Below are what we ordered for dinner: WATERMELON VELVET ($20) - Mom enjoyed this sophisticated, refreshing cocktail that blends muddled watermelon with a smooth, complex finish and egg white foam topping. GOAT CHEESE PURSE SALAD ($16) - A warm, creamy goat cheese-stuffed pastry "purse" set atop fresh mixed baby greens made for great presentation. The touch of rosemary, drizzle of honey, and savoury balsamic vinegar reduction combined well as flavour accents and with the added textures from the poached apples and crunch from the walnuts. BEET SALAD ($18) - This was a refreshing starter featuring a blend of fresh greens, fruit, pistachios, and goat cheese. It was the preferred salad of the two that we ordered. CLASSIC WIENER SCHNITZEL Pork Cutlet ($36) - This was Mom's order. She substituted the Austrian potato salad with Seasonal Vegetables. Pounded remarkably thin, coated in fine breadcrumbs and pan-fried to a brilliantly golden, exceptionally crispy crust, the tender pork cutlet was light and delicate rather than heavy or greasy. The accompanying lingonberry sauce offered a tart and sweet fruit contrast to the savoury pork. DELISH!! JAGER SCHNITZEL ($40) - Because I'm a saucy girl, I went with this schnitzel with the mushroom cream sauce and it did not disappoint. BEST jager schnitzel and YUMMIEST spätzle that I ever had...and that says A LOT because before this day, I was not a fan of the egg pasta dish. The lingonberry sauce with this schnitzel was also very good! Next time (yes, I will return!), I will ask if I can have the schnitzel crusted and fried like the classic version to enjoy with the delectable mushroom and lingonberry sauces - ooh, yeahhhhhh!! SALZBURGER NOCKERL ($16) - Mom got her soufflé craving satisfied from this fluffy, cloud-like vanilla egg-white baked dessert. The light, airy, and ethereal soufflé, sitting atop a sweet-tart blueberry compote, rose high to a delicate, golden exterior and a meltingly soft interior. We replaced the vanilla bean ice cream with the light and refreshing strawberry sorbet. This was an A++ dish!! Nehir, affectionately also known as Mia, was our superb waitress. She was extremely friendly, informative, and super accommodating - all of our special requests were happily granted with a warm smile. After learning that we were celebrating Mom's wonderful health report, Nehir/Mia served one of our two orders of SALZBURGER NOCKERL on the house. Such a sweetheart she was. We appreciated her so much that we gave her tight hugs before we left. What an amazing first impression we had from our most enjoyable and unforgettable dining experience at NASCHMARKT Palo Alto. I highly recommend this place and can't wait for my next visit!!

There were so many delicious sounding things on the menu though, that I think I'll have to try new stuff next time, just to try more of it! The portions were really good, especially the Spatzle, and all of that was plenty of food for the three of us. I wanted to be able to eat more, but sadly I was getting too full. We ordered a variety of cocktails and wine, our server was very generous in letting us try the different drinks before ordering. I ended getting a glass each of an Austrian and German wine, and loved both. Cocktails were also thoroughly enjoyed by those that had them.
