Bevri is such a nice spot. The service was friendly, and I love the location because there are so many restaurants and shops nearby. The Khachapuri Adjaruli is the reason I keep coming back. The bread is so good -- warm, cheesy, rich, and fresh from the oven. It is definitely my favorite thing to order here. We also had the Salmon Satsivi and Ojakhuri. The salmon was good, and the chicken was really tender and flavorful. Everything came out nicely presented and tasted good. The food was rustic and simple, albeit much less filling than we anticipated. It was nicely plated in simple earthenware dishes, the environment was clean while charming, and the service was attentive (even asking if we wanted to-go boxes before finishing our meal). We ordered the lamb khinkali dumplings, chanakhi (lamb, eggplant stew), and Georgian salad for two. The Georgian salad had a pleasant nuttiness to it that brought out the flavor of the tomatoes and cucumbers. The chanakhi was well balanced with a simple spice profile, but the lamb was a bit tough. The khinkali dumplings were juicy and flavorful. Our qualm was that the portions were lighter than expected for the price (note that there is apparently no expectation of tipping at this restaurant). At roughly $80 for three dishes for two people, we assumed we'd ordered enough to leave full, but left still fairly hungry. The food and service were genuinely good, but we would need to order a couple of extra dishes next time to account for the smaller portions and budget accordingly. We were walking in the area and decided to stop in for a snack. We had never tried Georgian food so we're excited to see what they've got. Since they were recommending the dumplings and cheese bread, those were the two things we ordered. As someone who grew up with steamed dumplings, these dumplings were much bigger, and were beautifully decorated with pomegranates. The cheese bread also looked really impressive with the boat shaped bread and egg and butter on top. Overall, it was a bit of a carb heavy snack we chose for ourselves but an experience nonetheless. And while we were glad we gave it a try, the bread was incredibly rich and dense that we had to take most of it home. The cost of 5 dumplings is 25 and the bread was 26. Was craving some khachapuri so decided to try Bevri in Palo Alto. This place is conveniently located in PA downtown on University Avenue and you can find public parking garages nearby, if street parking is unavailable. The place has a very interesting ambience - interesting artifacts representing Georgia like an old timey globe, posters, paintings all very carefully selected to transport you into the Georgian dining experience. The khachapuri was warm and delicious. The cheese was on the saltier side even for the goat/feta that is usually used. It paired well with the bread and worked for me, however it was a little too salty for my partner's taste. The mushroom khinkhali or steamed dumplings were mildly flavored and comforting. My favorite was a beet/spinach spread platter (sorry that I don't recall the Gerogian name!) which was the very first one in the menu. It was grounded with walnuts and herbs and tasted fresh and healthy. It came with two stuffed eggplant rolls I would pair a slice of it with the spread on buttery grilled toast. I'd definitely recommend everyone getting an entree (which is actually doable to finish in one sitting, from the perspective of someone who usually has leftovers) and then ordering a starter or two for the table. The food was just good and the portions were very small for the price. My chicken dish was $30 and came with only a small amount of chicken and a few slivered vegetables. I also think the "no‑tip zone" policy needs clearer communication. Our waitress was pleasant, but one of my friends didn't know about the policy and asked about it. The waitress replied, "It's a no‑tip policy, but you can leave a tip if you'd like." That put pressure on the rest of us to leave a tip once my friend decided to do so. I wasn't planning to leave a tip because I assumed the small portion for $30 meant the tip was already built into the pricing. After reading reviews, that does seem to be the intention. I would recommend making a reservations ahead of time since wait times can be a little long depending on what time you get there. For starters, the service was not ideal. The staff was far from friendly and seemed upset at our party for asking about the menu, almost with a condescending tone. I had seen other reviews talking about the poor service and can confirm that it is a quite common experience here. Inside it is actually really nice though. Dimly lit area with nice rug decorations. In terms of the food, it was just okay. The star dishes would probably be the appetizers, which are cheese and bread in different forms. Very yummy, however, I think the food quality does not match the price point. While Bevri is a decent example of Georgian food, it is neither the best version of the cuisine nor a very good deal. My partner and I adore the typical appetizer samplers which usually include 3-4 pkhalis, several eggplant rolls and several red pepper rolls. However, Bevri's version has only two pkhalis (beet and spinach, without the typical carrot or leek) and two eggplant rolls, with the rest of the plate filled out with lackluster bread. It may sound weird to compare a platter's contents so specifically, but having seen this as a standard dish at many Georgian restaurant, it is a notably stingy difference. Case in point: older photos of this dish on Yelp show more pkhali and less bread. While it's fun to find a favorite and rare cuisine, I would urge those curious about Georgian food to visit Georgian Cheese Boat in North Beach where the dishes provide a more diverse dive into pkhalis at a better price point. Taste-wise, Bevri's versions are solid, but don't make it quite destination-worthy, even though the charming University Ave setting is a draw unto itself. I suggest the restaurant brings back a more substantial version of this dish that could serve as a meal. As for the service, the waiters were friendly but the place seemed understaffed. Our waitress also got our order wrong; she righted it promptly and misheard at no fault of her own, but it added to an experience that didn't live up to expectations. read more

The entrees you would think it were small but honestly the perfect portion where you didn't feel like you over ate , everything was well season & very delicious. We have had Georgian food when my husband was actually working there as an Ex Pat & it was just as good as if we were there . Our server was Abu & he was very professional & honest about the wines we had the amber wine called Tevza, Goruli Mtsvane a dry wine with hints of apricot & orange rind ( I believe ) A first time trying an amber wine which was surprisingly good . I was in the area for shopping and worked up a hunger. I remembered from my last trip to NYC that my Uber driver recommended I try Georgian food. I never had Georgian food until trying it for the first time at Bevri. I stopped by around 12pm on a Saturday. The place wasn't busy, so I got a cozy table inside the restaurant by the bar. I pretty much went straight to the "Favorites" section of the menu for the traditional items. I got 3 lamb Khinkali and a Adjaruli Khachapuri. I've read a few reviews saying that the food was expensive, and it's no joke. 3 dumplings was $18, and the cheese bread was $26. I was only able to eat 1 dumpling and 1/3 of the bread in one sitting, so at least there was plenty of leftovers to take home. I suppose I could see why the Khinkali were $6 a pop, because they're massive. The quality and flavor of the Khinkali reminded me of Anatolian dumplings I've had before, which makes sense since Turkey and Georgia are geographically close to each other. The dumplings were nicely steamed and juicy in the middle. The lamb was a bit gamey, but I didn't mind that much. The Kachapuri was fine. Solid bread and very, very cheesy. This was like a cheese pizza on steroids. I cracked the egg but let it run. I didn't know that you're supposed to mix the egg, cheese, and butter together to make a slurry. I only found out after I finished my meal and went home to find recipes on how to make it.
