Only writing this review to counteract the insane reviews here. This is a halal restaurant - they don't serve alcohol. IF YOU HAVE A PROBLEM WITH THAT DONT COME HERE. As a sober person, I have to report these were some of the BEST mocktails I have ever had. I would come back just for those. The arancini was delicious - not your typical Italian rice ball but still authentic enough for me to approve. The lamb burger was good, I wasn't a big fan of the fries like most here were. The ravioli was good, but definitely used ground lamb instead of the lamb shank as advertised. I ate everything though! Lastly, the server was awesome and attentive. Ambiance was good, the music playing was epic and had me singing under my breath at times overall would definitely recommend. read more

I found this Italian restaurant in Tiktok, so traveled all the way to Brooklyn just to check it out! Because when I saw it's a Halal restaurant, I had to travel 3 + 3 = 6 hours to reach there! I loved the decor & environment! Very clean & giving a back in time feeling . The food was good . Was disappointed when they say the carriages are off limits or closed‍If I knew I probably would not go! The restroom is downstairs but actually big & very clean. The decor is nice too. I finally get to try some Italian food which is halal. they don't serve alcohol & I have to give respect to the owner . He lost a lot of business right there, but he still chose not to serve like other so called halal restaurants ! That's why I gave him 5 star! The customer service was ok, the time I went there it was totally empty. So I tried to make some videos & TikTok's! Asked the server to take some pictures & I can sense she wasn't happy about it. So at that point didn't feel to stay longer ! Because It was my birthday & I was just trying to chill, have fun & share memories with my friends! The lamb burger and arancini were really good ! Additionally if you are sober but still want to enjoy a great mocktail this is the place to visit and I recommend getting the Virgin mojito. I don't typically see a lot of people dining at the Grounds of Brooklyn, but maybe that's because it's only been open for around 4 months, so a lot of people may not know about it yet. It's also right next to Milk & Honey, which is huge popular, so I'm guessing most people just haven't gotten around to checking out Grounds of Brooklyn yet. My boyfriend and I came here for lunch last week and were pleased to see they had a good brunch/lunch menu. He got the Bulgarian waffles and I had the breakfast burrito (sausage, egg, avocado, black beans). We shared the crispy cauliflower appetizer. The waffles looked really pretty on the plate! My boyfriend enjoyed them overall. My sausage breakfast burrito was pretty satisfying, but my favorite part of the meal was the crispy cauliflower. Although it didn't come out as crispy as I expected, the spices on the cauliflower made it so delicious! Definitely get the cauliflower! So glad to see there is a halal Italian food option now! I love Milk & Honey which shares an owner with this restaurant so I was excited to see what they had to offer. Food: To start I got the chicken parm pizza & meatballs pomodoro which were both great. The chicken parm pizza was s different than I expected it to be--it's pizza topped with chicken strips essentially. The fries were AMAZING! The Pappardelle was a decent portion and flavorful. I was particularly blown away by the baklava ice-cream...man that was good! It's a must try! Drinks: The mocktails are excellent and great to pair with your meal. I also got the latte for dessert. We decided to come here because it's very hard to find Halal brunch in the area and most of my family only eats Halal food. We had high hopes since it seemed to be owned & operated by the same folks as Milk & Honey. We went in around 1:45 pm on a Sunday afternoon and waited about 15 minutes for a table for 7. We looked at the brunch and menu and it was pretty decent, some egg dishes, some pizza & pasta options as well. We had the following: Pizza Margherita- my friend said it was good TGOB bowl- my friend was not a big fan of this , the mix of vegetables didn't really work well 3 Pizzas with eggplant & zucchini- this was under seasoned and required a ton of sriracha Farfalle - this looked like chicken soup minus the chicken - the pasta was cooked al dente which is great but also lacking salt - mainly carrots in the dish and some broccolini 2 poached eggs - I was not a big fan of this, the eggs were on top of sour cream and there was way too much sour cream. The best thing was the spinach and garbanzo beans. I also added a side of avocado and I kid you not, I think that's the smallest side I've ever seen Overall, the service was great. A great new restaurant in the area to say that the food was delicious is an understatement. We got pizza, and they made it half three-cheese half Misti mushroom as per my request. We also ordered gnocchi, but for some reason, they forgot about it. We not only got out gnocchi very quickly, but we also got a dessert on the house as an apology from the stuff. The chocolate ravioli was so good. I can't recall eating such great food in a very long time, if not ever. The only disappointment was that they don't have an alcohol license and it is uncertain if that will ever happen (the distance from the nearby school is probably the problem) Overall, the place is fantastic! We came on a Friday for my birthday. It was kind of chilly and we arrived at 4-5ish. It was EMPTY. We got to sit in the Cinderella carriage. It was cute. Heater at top; felt a bit hot on my face for those of you who have sensitive skin... waiter was nice, good service; spot was creepy in the fact that he opened and peered into the carriage lol awk/funny- to give us check and ask if we needed anything... We got the coke first, and waited at least 20 mins for our food. Since there was no other customers, it was fresh. But I have to agree with the other reviews that the pizza was a bit burnt at the bottom; don't know if they were going for a smoked flavor or what. So $16 for a personal pizza and $18 for 8 pieces of lamb ravioli. Honestly the ravioli was just okay, nothing special. I left the restaurant feeling shocked at the lack of attention to food quality and flavor, considering how empty it was compared to the cafe next door. Don't get me wrong the restaurant looks cute however I can tell it doesn't get too packed. The chicken parm pizza and Coke were the star of the show and I would go back just for the pizza, but the pasta dishes tasted bland and some were very unpleasant. I came here about 2 weeks after opening night. Word of advice.. only get the pizza. The ravioli tasted sour and tart, the side of chicken had a rather raw and chewy skin, they "ran out" of the salmon dish at 7pm, and they cannot serve alcohol. The branzino was delicious however I must say but the pizza is the way to go. The staff was great, very welcoming, just a bit too eager to check on us. I really liked the Beef Whisperer Burger with fries and the Buffalo Wings. The chicken parm spaghetti was okay. The chicken could have used more salt and the spaghetti seemed a little bland. The service was on and off. We gave in a order for "to-go" at the very beginning so that we wouldn't have to wait after we finished, but we ended up having to wait instead. This place has SO much potential. It would be five stars if not for the service. The ambience and food are on point. I came here with two girlfriends on a Friday night and we were the only people there. It took nearly 15 minutes for drinks, another 30 minutes for starters to come out and then another 30 for the entree. We waited for almost an hour after the entree for our check. Also the waiter gave us the entrees without taking the appetizer plates away, huh? We wanted dessert after but decided to go elsewhere based on how slow the service had been that evening. We travel from Queens here and did not want to wait around as it was already passed their closing time. The waiter vanished and we wanted the check. We almost asked the kitchen staff. My friend had to go to the bathroom downstairs which was tucked away and saw the waiter sitting on a couch downstairs with another man, maybe the owner, not sure. Finally we got our check and the waiter asked if we wanted to split the check in three with the handheld device thing he had then said he could not do it on the device and took our cards to put our info in manually. He returned and then charged us table side with the device. Super weird that he took our cards then came back with them without charging us. None of our card info was compromised but very unprofessional behavior. I was also disappointed the menu was a lot smaller in person than online. Food was super good, we had calamari, four cheese pizza, lasagna and another past dish. Reasonably priced and beautiful decor. All around passed the vibe check except service. I hope Max reads Yelp reviews because the problems with his new Ditmas Park spot are (mostly) easy to fix. First, the food was great (if not a little overpriced for the neighborhood). We shared a salad, the gnocchi, and branzino. All were excellent. And they gave use a complimentary desert (a flourless chocolate cake) that was quite good. The staff was friendly if a little overbearing. The place was not crowded (on a Friday night) so maybe they were kind of bored and came by a little too often asking how things were. But there were three problems which prevent me from giving it a higher rating. 1) It's too bright inside. You have a beautiful room but the harsh lighting is just awful. Install some dimmers and turn it down. Your space will look better and so will the customers. 2) The music. Ughh. A bad 80s playlist. Schmaltz-fest. Does anyone actually like this music? And it's not just one night. I've been here twice and both times the music was awful. I feel bad for the staff that has to listen to this crap every night. Choose something else, please! 3) No alcohol (and no BYOB). The server claims that they cannot get a liquor license because of the school across the street. According to the NYS laws, that is true for a full liquor license but they can still get a license to serve beer and wine even with the school across the street. This is probably the reason the food is just a tad too expensive. They have to make up for the money they are losing by not serving beer/wine. Lea and Wheated are nearby and serve similar food along with great wine and cocktails. Grounds of Brooklyn is closer to home, so it would be a nice alternative but if these things aren't fixed, I'm not sure I'll be back. But I hope the next time I walk by the lights will be turned down which I will take as an invitation to return. read more

Suggest calling this dessert something else - it has no mascarpone or lady fingers or espresso or chocolate shavings in it from what I can tell. Also, this is to tell you they don't have a liquor license yet. So that's all this is about- bad customer service. I called wanting to know if I could get a glass of wine with my pasta or pizza so. They guy who answered (maybe the owner?) was super curt and really uninviting. Just repeated "no, no, no" to my questions about whether they have their license and whether I could BYO for the time being. The call just turned me off so we won't be going, which sucks bc that was our dinner plan. Came here for brunch. I had an open-faced croissant sandwich with eggs and smoked salmon. It was tasty! My kid got belgian waffles. They were ok. The french toast next door is cheaper and much more impressive. My friend got an inexplicably, inexcusable "pizza". It was called a vegetable pizza and all it had on it were roasted vegetables (zucchini, peppers, olives). There was no sauce, nor cheese, nor pesto of any kind. Not even a drizzle of olive oil. Wtf kind of pizza is that? We were truly baffled. It was bland and tasteless as you would expect. My wife and I made reservations three weeks in advance for the "Cinderella" booth at "The Grounds" and we arrived an hour early, only to have the male greeter/server place a few young girls (who arrived late to their appointment, and asked to be seated at any table) in our Cinderella booth. We then waited for an hour, only for him to tell us that he didn't see our reservation on his phone. He shrugged his shoulders, when we asked how much longer was our wait and said, well, they just ordered dessert. Have been wanting to try this place out for weeks so I came in on a week night after work. At first I thought the place was closed because it was completely empty! The waitstaff was understandably a little over attentive so I ordered a soda to get some breathing room. My bf showed up along with another party of 4, and I got to listen to the waiter explain to them that yes, the Beyond Beef burger was made with beef. Uh... The food was lackluster as well. I ordered the potato gnocchi which cooled down ridiculously fast since the heat wasn't on in the restaurant. It wasn't the right consistency and the basil ricotta on top was kind of overpowering. My boyfriend got another pasta dish that was pretty bad but at least it seemed like the pasta was homemade. Both dishes were full of about 30 cherry tomatoes that we neither wanted nor asked for-- definitely a filler to cut costs since the servings were pretty small already! The coup de grace was when I got up to use the restroom. I thought I'd entered another universe. It's in a bright orange shipping container covered with artwork I haven't seen outside of a Spencer's Gifts in 2002. It completely ruins the vibe of what is otherwise a nice-looking place. Came here on several occasions. A friend had a graduation party for her daughter, a birthday dinner, ate here on other occasions. Food is very good. The pizzas are individual size but not small and very, tasty. The pasta is al dente with good sauces. Green salads are fresh and delicious. I have never had a meat meal though. The service is friendly. My son and husband went last week and enjoyed themselves. The atmosphere is rather casual because you can see the cook preparing the meals and there were other people helping. Kind of like an open country kitchen. The decor is interesting. Mix of industrial and traditional Italian. Doesn't gel so well, but they will figure it out. The lighting is a little bright. After trying to go to their sister restaurant Milk and Honey next door and seeing a long line, We ended up here. The menu is brief but features a lot of my favorite items from next door. I split the shakshuka and grounds of Brooklyn breakfast plate with my partner, and both were excellent. However, two things made our experience subpar. The first was the service: they currently seem really understaffed. It took 15 minutes to take any part of our order, and our food came out before our coffees. Second, the restaurant switched to loudly playing Christian rock (the praise and worship variety you'd expect in a contemporary Christian service, not anything subtle that could have a chance at mainstream radio stations) halfway through our meal. The music is already maybe louder than I'd prefer, and the added religion made it especially jarring. We complained about the religious nature of the music, but the guy in charge of it today just shrugged. read more

If I could give it 0 stars I would, the service here is terrible, they take more than 30 min to get the food to you. When we finally got our food it was horribly made. We asked for a medium rare steak but it was burnt, we had to pick through it to find edible portions. The calamari was salt riddled and the pasta was no better than the steak. While we did not enjoy our meal we asked for the manger, hoping we could not pay for the steak but for the rest of our meal. But he was very rude and said it was our fault for not saying anything sooner. I was with my family and I was absolutely appalled by the way he treated us. Was very excited to try a new restaurant in the neighborhood that expands on the good old milk and honey and ox tavern. They had just opened up, so it of course takes time to perfect things but here we go: Beautiful decor, very well put together space, with lots of charming details and romantic atmosphere. The food was overall decent, fresh and nicely served. Octopus on the dry side but still yummy and a great arugula salad, but the black inc pasta was just all wrong, with 4 sad looking mussels and non of the exotic flavors the menu promised. Now, the service. When you drop the top of the bottle of your guests on the floor- you do not, I repeat, do not pick it up from the floor and screw it back on the bottle, leaving it on the table. That's just bananas. Also, an unprofessional staff who isn't familiar with the menu and overly eager to hear how great everything is. The face of your new restaurant needs to be held by a welcoming and well taught individuals which isn't the case. Again, the place is new, and I'm sure on time it will be a wonderful local pearl but please take these things into consideration as the experience has the potential to be phenomenal. Not there yet.
