This is the first time I've been there in about a decade. I really had reservations as to whether or not we were going to be able to find a decent deep dish pizza in Salem. But that's what we were craving and we found Geppetto's. We did call ahead because the website mentioned that it would be 40 minutes to prepare. Early in the month, Sept. 2017, I was pleased to have lunch at Geppetto's. The pizza of the month was ready to be introduced, STEAK & BLEU, we loved it. Everything a terrific pizza should be. This review is just for the take out deep dish pizza I ordered. It was just a large straight up cheese pizza. How could you go wrong??? Well, it did go wrong. The crust was below par. The cheese quality was not good. And the sauce that took up the entire pie was below average. In the end, I could not finish a couple pieces. And when you pay that higher price for a whole pie, you expect something good about it (say the cheese or crust, etc.)....but I didn't get one single thing that I liked. I didn't give it one star (although I wanted to)...due to me having not dined inside yet. So we'll see...maybe I will...in my next lifetime or something :-p read more

Family run and owned, Geppetto's can be hard to find, hidden in the same complex as Michael's and Hometown Buffet on Lancaster. It has a casual, family ambiance and offers "home-cooked" Italian cusine. They make their own pizzas, which is one of their most popular items, as well as a nice selection of pastas and other standard Italian fare. Excellent service and food. Nothing canned or frozen here. It is very obvious this restaurant cooks from scratch. The lasagna I ordered was very tasty. I really enjoyed it. If you like old school, Mom and Pop type Italian restaurants, this is for you. Excellent pasta dishes, especially the cannelloni garibaldi and anything with the bolognese style sauce. These are hearty dishes. The ravioli and lasagna selections are also wonderful choices as is the chicken mushroom fettuccini and a similar dish with shrimp. Their pesto is very good also. While I have eaten the pizza and liked it, having grown up near the Chambersburg part of Trenton, NJ, a veritable Italian food lover's Mecca, I tend to prefer the ultra thin hand-made crust with olive oil, crushed tomatoes and cheese that is so typical of that area and tastes like you are in old Napoli. Pizza was OK. The atmosphere is dated an run down. Other menu items are somewhat generic. Nothing special about this place.

The service was great as well as the entrees we ordered were delicious. My favorite thing I ordered though was the pesto bruschetta... wow! so good. Will definitely recommend this place to others. Can't wait to come back and try their pizza menu! read more

I waited to have experienced Geppetto's twice before writing a review so that my view would be more objective. That said, it was an epic in mediocrity. This last trip, I ordered a "medium" Chicken Alfredo pizza on thin crust. I set the pizza on a dinner plate when it came and yes, it fit. It was exactly the size of a dinner plate for $19.95. When I called, I asked about a small ($14.95) because only two people were eating and decided on the medium to be safe. In hind-sight, I should have realized that if a $15 dollar pizza cant feed 2 people, you're getting ripped off. That said, the $20 "medium" was merely the size of a dinner plate, was barely luke warm and left us both a bit hungry. This was the second such experience and so, I am done. This place has gone down hill badly over the years badly. I was in a few years ago, i do not live near so visit in irregular intervals, but came back because i remembered the food was decent the last time i was in. I was embarrassed at how bad the food was for bringing my friend here. Stopped by, had salad and pasta. It was a Friday night, the customers in the place were light. The salad was a plain non-organic, ice-berg lettuce, it was gross i could taste the pesticides and that it wasn't fresh. The croutons were curiously good, perhaps a specialty recipe. The only redeeming quality was the fat girl portioned salad dressing to cover things up. The pasta was plain, it was a little bit undercooked, it was topped with unworthy sauces that tasted like they were straight out of a grocery store container. The plate was not decorated at all, it was just one item on the place, no side garnish or accent item on it. My friend's plate was equally not visually appealing and rather plain for a pasta dish. The dishes needed healthy quantities of pepper, red-pepper flakes, and parm. cheese to fix them. The plates were very expensive for uninspired food that we received. The bread-sticks were served with plain butter, nice touch with the bread-sticks, suggest serving them with a more creative dipping item. The place was not worth the amount of money they were charging on the menu. The front entrance has a strange appearance of a mafia family which is a nice theme, it could use some windows out onto the strip mall. This business will probably close if it doesn't fit its fundamentals. read more

Really wanted to like it more than I did. I enjoy family restaurants which have been in business many years and Geppetto's has been. The inside of the restaurant has no windows due to it being located in a shopping plaza. The lighting is kind of dark inside but it's fine because it's a casual atmosphere. Our server was very friendly and attentive. The pizza was just ok. Something about the crust just didn't do it for me. The pasta is not bad too. I'll go back and try more pasta dishes but probably skip pizza next time. read more

Had a Large pizza and a lasagna tortellini combo delivered. Good news, the gentleman who took the order was very polite, delivery was early, pizza crust tasted from scratch (but was not crisp), sauce on the combo was good. Bad news...SMALL portions. Large pizza was a typical medium size. combo was child size, tortellini soup was frozen noodles and a can of chicken broth...Wont reorder for delivery but will try a sit down with a different style pizza. read more

I had the special for lunch bay shrimp fettuccine . Good flavor and lots of shrimp. Sauce was watery and garlic bread had a burnt on the grill look and flavor ! In house, the food's great, but for some reason their delivery falls short. I've tried it three times and each time the guy answering the phone has been rude, and the food has been luke warm at best, and a little flavorless, when it got here. It's funny because if you go INTO the restaurant, it's an entirely different story. I love the food and the atmosphere, although the service isn't great. read more

Just finished lunch at Geppetto's with my wife and 14year old son. OUTSTANDING meal and service. Clean, pleasant ambience. Server was extremely attentive. We shared a pasta salad and Caesar salad as appetizers, both excellent and substantial portions. Breadsticks with two red sauces. After a great amount of debate (because everything sounded amazing) we agreed to share a Chicago-style deep dish pizza. Takes about 40 minutes to cook, which we were aware of so no big deal. Worth the wait. Excellent sauce, fresh ingredients, topped with tasty sauce. Ended up taking at least half of it home. Really, nothing even remotely negative that I can share. I would literally make the hour drive from SE Portland just to go to this place. read more

This was the worst food that I have had in a restaurant in a long time. We ordered the mozzarella cheese sticks. Their flavor reminded me of the good old days when i would get off work in the middle of the night and order them at Denny's. When the salad was served the dressing tasted like it came from a cheap mix. Buying craft dressings would have been a step up. I forced myself to reserve judgement until the entrees came, and their flavor was consistent with the rest of the experience. The sauces tasted like they had come from a can. Everything that had the distinct taste of MSG to it. The prices they charged for all this were a crime. I could have spent $10.00 at Winco on a couple of cans of Campbell's soup, some pasta and some bread and had a better meal. read more

Geppetto's was the perfect place for a quiet Friday date night with my wife. The ambiance was warm and quiet ~ we were greeted and seated right away, received attentive friendly service through out our visit. There was many delicious options on the menu to choose from. We ordered a thick crust pizza and it was amazing, the sauce was so good with plenty of cheese and toppings as ordered. Our expectations were by far exceeded and not expecting a fast food experience, the menu noted that it would take 20 Minutes to prepare this meal. I've been coming here since I was a little girl. It was my dads favorite place to take us for pizza. It's still a favorite. I bring my kids all the time. They love it. This is a good place to have lunch... I love the Ravioli and the Tortellini with Meat sauce dishes. I have had the thin crust Pizza and it is also pretty darn good. We ordered a pizza last night and had it delivered. It was awful. The sauce was bland. The cheese completely came off when you took a bite. There were very few mushrooms and whatever else my husband added. Domino's pizza would have tasted better. For the price of a large we expected a quality pizza.
