I was quoted a reasonable price in line with other dealers. They didn't include an $894 dealer accessory fee that I was unaware of till I got there. "It comes on all our cars" Well I wouldn't buy any of it on my own so I'm not gonna let you force me to buy it. Wheel locks, nitrogen in the tires, theft etching and door edge protectors. Also way undervalued my trade. They were trying to sell me on payment which I told them I was not worried about. They were going to wrap $4000 that I am underwater on plus $894 for stupid stuff into the loan. When I tried to leave salesman told me I can't he's got my key. He was trying to be funny but after 2 hours wasted I just wanted to leave. Salesman was knowledgeable on the car. BTW they were trying to give me 15k for a 2017 Civic touring with only 18k miles. I purchased a used Subaru Impreza from this dealership 3 years ago. Part of the reason that I felt comfortable purchasing a used car was that they offered a lifetime power train warranty. I also purchased an additional bumper to bumper warranty. Last August, while the bumper to bumper warranty was still in effect, the car suddenly stopped working during the middle of a left turn. They did not cover that clutch repair. That repair cost me $1,700. Now, I am having engine trouble, and they are refusing to cover the cost of repairs even though the part is definitely part of the power train. This will cost me $2,300 to repair. I will never purchase a car from this dealership, and I may be turned off from Subaru's for forever because of the treatment I have received. After a series of events (some of which in all fairness may have been simply due to COVID related delays), I was unable to purchase the vehicle I wanted through this particular Subaru dealer. In the end, I bought the car I wanted, hassle-free for a way better price at a Subaru dealer just a few miles north. I own two Subaru's from Gerald. One from Naperville and one from North Aurora. Drive past this Naperville location if you must buy a car or get service (good luck getting any service for weeks). I had a very unpleasant sales experience at Naperville, in which they really dropped the ball and then there were issues with the aftermarket products installed. Now they can't see me over a simple electrical issue. They couldn't even tell me if I am eligible for a loaner until they have my car for days. I would not recommend buying a car from this dealership. My husband and I were recently in Gerald to possibly buy our second Subaru from them and needless to say we did not walk out with a car buy but with a very bad taste in our mouths. Our first buying experience was great and that it why we returned but I am not sure if management changed but its for the worse. The sales manager, Ubaldo Rodriguez, first gave the impression of uncleanliness and untidiness. His "white" dress shirt was old and yellow and was also ripped at the elbows. But due to his rudeness and unproffessionalism we ended up leaving. Yesterday, my husband and I visited Tyson in Shorewood and had the best car buying experience. It was night and day compared to Gerald Subaru. Maybe the sales managers can learn a thing or to about selling cars from Tyson, because they obviously know how to treat customers they way they should be treated. read more

Had a very friendly salesman name Anthony Santos, we bought two cars from him. He is a very nice guy and will not rip you off. Jesse was our finance guy and is also very nice and helpful. I like how he gives us a choice if we need to extend our warranty, unlike some other finance person that will push you and pretend that he didn't hear you that you don't want to buy the extended warranty. My family and myself have been Gerald customers for years, but we've noticed a change since the days of Oldsmobile. Ever since the subaru brand took off we've noticed more of an emphasis on pushing service and sales and less of a personal touch. We've purchased four cars from them over the years, had collision damaged repaired by their body shop, and come back for parts and service. However since the move to the new location we've been hung out to dry. Our 2011 forester began drinking oil for breakfast at 60,000 miles, seeing how subaru has a service program to solve this we called them to start the process. Long story short they claim ours doesn't qualify since using 1qt of oil in 1000 miles is "normal" (Not!). We've also noticed broken parts and missing fasteners from their "handy work". And just recently we had an issue with the warranty on the seatbelt. After two calls claiming it would be covered I arrive to the dealership and am immediately informed it is not covered. So I figure I'll buy the part myself instead of paying $250 for a buckle to be replaced, so I go to the parts department and I'm quoted $81 for the buckle. I immediately went online to find other dealerships selling the part for $42.73. I would recommend finding another dealership group. And their famous "lifetime warranty" on the engine and Powertrain is snake oil. Nothing is covered by it. It's a scam to get you to buy a car from them. Avoid this dealership. The success of the subaru brand has gone to their heads. In the past with our Oldsmobile cars we were taken care of and looked after like family. First thing first...I had a bad experience here with the service department back in 2010 and I haven't came back here since. I do not know how their service is right now. However, I am currently deciding to write this review because the last time I have came into the dealership and ask about the PDR repairs, they claim they couldn't fix it the PDR way, and that they had to repaint the whole door and the adjacent door. It was a penny size dent and I decided to leave. I went to the Naperville PDR place by here and got it fixed for under $100. Sadly, this was my dealership of choice before and I live in the city. I chose this dealership over the one in Evanston when I bought my Subaru because Joe was a nice guy and a great salesman. Unfortunately, he is no longer employed here. He was the only one who offered to help us when we came in here. He made my buying experience great. I never had any complaints of their service before when I would come here for my oil changes and maintenance. That quickly changed back in 2010 when I took my 05 STi here because it was having the infamous 4th gear grind. This was a well known issue in the 05 STi's and I have done many research and talk to many people who had the same car with the same issue and all had it fixed under warranty for a tranny synchros problem. The thing was they all went to the Bensenville Subaru dealership. Anyway, I decided to call Gerald Naperville because I always come here and they weren't too bad. When I took my car in to get the 4th gear tranny grind fixed, they said I wouldn't have to pay the diagnostic fee $90 if it was indeed the tranny. I was so confident that it was the tranny, so I said that's fine. Almost 2 hours later, the service clerk comes back in here and told me they diagnose my car and it is not the tranny. It was my clutch causing it to grind and it needs to be replaced soon because it could go out any time. I don't remember the exact quote, but it was in the mid $1,000 range. I was shocked and suckered to pay the $90 diagnostic fee. I also told them I would look around to before I let them fix it. I decided to call Bensenville Subaru and have them check out my car for the same problem. When I dropped my car off, they were extremely nice. Less than an hour later, the service guy comes back and said that it was my 4th, 5th and even 6th gear synchros that needed to be replaced under warranty for no charge. I was extremely happy because this saved me over a $1,000 in repairs. They also said the clutch was perfectly fine and I asked them to put it in writing for me and they did. Dropped off my car here a few days later and they also took care of the rental for me which was free. I was extremely happy with Bensenville Subaru and this is my new dealership of choice. Everything was fixed in less than a week and my tranny till this day is still running strong. Oh and till this day (~3 years later and 50k miles later, my clutch is still running fine). I called SOA and complained about Gerard Subaru in Naperville and they were able to reimburse me my $90 diag. fee back. Another bad experience I had here with service was when I took my car here right before my 3 year warranty expired for the brake pads. They were completely worn when I took them here and the service guy said they are worn, but not worn enough to be replaced. Are you freaking serious? They are bald...so I got suckered by this stealership again. I had to replace my pads the next few months because they were literally worn to the backing. In long...I would avoid this dealership at all cost. The Bensenville Subaru took care of me the right way the first time and they had my business ever since then. read more

Fair warning: this is a long review. In summary, if you are too impatient to read, avoid this dealership at ALL costs. This is hands down the WORST dealership experience I have ever had in my entire life because of the sales manager, Mike Smiley. If you'd like to find out why, I urge you to read and understand why. To whom it may concern, Yesterday I had gone into this dealership to go look at an appealing used BMW 335i on their lot with my friend. We went in and we were greeted warmly by the salesman that we spoke to over the phone about the car, but the positives end there. The car was filthy and covered in salt and I was expected to go on a test drive in it on a very nearly empty fuel tank. I found this concerning as the needle was on empty. I was able to complete my test drive and I wanted to look further into the matter as I was still interested. I had begun to discuss the financials with them and mentioned that there was a sticker on the windshield that indicated that it came with a warranty that covered labor and parts. I was then informed that this was, in fact, a lie. The car did not come with one as advertised. We then began discussing payments as I was interested in financing. I gave them a monthly number I would find reasonable. They were able to get me to that number only by elongating the payment period 72 months and then factoring out the details it totaled up to 10,000 dollars in interest which was insane including the pitiful trade-in value that they appraised of my current BMW of 1,500 dollars from what the financial manager, Daniel, was able to come up with. What happened next will live on in my memory as THE WORST experience I have EVER dealt with at a dealership in my entire life. The sales manager, a man by the name of Mike Smiley, had elected to assist us. He was able to get to a much more reasonable deal of my request. I was happy with it, but wanted to take a day to think about it as this investment would be a large one for the next couple of years. He raised his voice at me about how after all the work they did, their job, that this was unfair of me. I did not say no, I liked the car and was seriously considering it otherwise I wouldn't have bothered coming all the way from Chicago to go see it. My friend then interjects saying that it was rude to treat a customer like that and try guilting me into buying the car. At this point Mr. Smiley SCREAMS at my friend and I in the MOST CHILDISH display I have ever seen. My friend said that he did not appreciate the way he spoke to us and requested my keys to leave and told Mr. Smiley that he would not allow me to buy from Gerald Subaru after such a flabbergasting experience. The WORST thing I have ever heard a salesman say then proceeded to come out of Mike Smiley's mouth. "I WILL NEVER LET YOU BUY A CAR HERE!" and "DON'T COME BACK!". In summary: DO NOT purchase a car from this dealership. If you do, they will attempt to take you for a fool, get as much money as they can out of you, and verbally abuse you like the sales manager, Mike Smiley, did. They will also lie to you and tell you that they perform soft queries on your credit which in reality was a hard one and was the final straw to me writing this review. They do not care about the customer. I will be attempting to contact corporate to let them know of my experience. After having a few services completed on my car here (one MAJOR overhaul that cost me an arm & a leg), I can say that i'm not as impressed as I was before. After one oil change & tire rotation, the oil cap was not screwed on tight enough. As I was going to get my friend from the airport, black smoke was spewing out of my exhaust; needless to say, I had to get it towed back to Gerald Subaru where they would not own up to the problem at all. They did, however, fix it at no charge to me saying that somehow the oil cap came loose... right. Although the guys can be pretty nice, they are always rushing you to make decisions and cutting you off in conversation. If you are looking for service go somewhere else. We took our car in for a recall repair and at same time had them perform a repair to secure the catalytic converter which came loose and was rattling. Also we asked for a price on a new mirror that had been damaged when something bumped into it. The repair came loose a few months later and we took it to a mechanic who repaired it for about 1/4 of the price. As for their quote on the mirror, they quoted us for a mirror that was not even for our car because the quote included painting it and our car has just a black plastic covering that just needs to be attached to the car. Another recall came up which was actually the first one that was not done right and then the airbag one that a lot of cars are having. When our Honda had the recall, Honda came out and got my car, repaired the airbag and returned it a few hours later. They were courteous and great to work with. In contrast I spoke with Glen today(or it could have been Len) I told him about our previous experience and how easy it was with Honda. He didn't even say..."Oh I am sorry to hear that" Apparently they do not care whether you are pleased with their service or not. Anyway they did say they could come get the car but could not say when. I told him I just needed one days notice to make sure the car was here. He seemed to indicate they would have to do it on the spur of the moment and could not plan ahead, so I don't expect to hear back from them. I went recently to Gerald Subaru with my adult daughter. The lease on her 2019 Impreza was about to expire and she wanted to turn in her current car and lease a new Impreza. She was very pleased with her car and had received very favorable terms from Gerald on her original lease. She expected something similar but knew full-well that current conditions would probably mean a higher down payment to obtain a reasonable monthly payment. She also knew that used car values are much higher now, higher than the residual value of her current car. She intended to use the equity in her lease to increase her down payment. She knew the car she wanted and its MSRP. She had done her research and knew what to expect in terms of a fair offer. That is, until she walked into Gerald. She walked in with a monthly lease payment of less than $130/mo. Had the sharks at Gerald had their way with her, she could have walked out with a lease payment between $400 and $500 per month even after a down payment twice that of her original lease. This was not only mathematically incorrect for her situation, it doesn't even pass a smell test. A little background: I'm a research engineer and a college math professor. I know how to calculate a lease payment. I know, and teach my math students, that mathematical formulas are both useful and subject to abuse. You can make a car lease payment come out anyway you want if you fiddle with the numbers. You get an honest answer when you use honest numbers. For a lease payment some of the key numbers are the gross capitalization for the new vehicle, the residual value, any equity you have in your current lease, any additional down payment, and the money factor. Gerald never really explained any of this, nor did they justify any of the numbers they apparently used, nor did they ask the questions that could have established the correct numbers. You, the dumb customer, are simply expected to accept whatever they slap in front of you. As a professor, I give them an F. Don't walk into Gerald without understanding how things are supposed to be calculated, what the correct formulas are, and what would be reasonable numbers for your situation. Better yet, don't walk into Gerald to begin with. There is only one word to describe what I observed: dishonest. UPDATE: My daughter went to another Subaru dealership. She was able to upgrade to a new CrossTrek for a lease well under $200 /mo. with a down payment not much more than that of her original lease, made more affordable by a generous trade-in value for her 2019 Impreza. Now I'm even more baffled by her experience at Gerald. The moral of the story: be a knowledgeable consumer and if something doesn't look or sound right, walk out. read more

We purchased a 2014 Subaru Forester XT Touring from Sandy Jackson yesterday. It was a great experience! Here are the reasons why: 1) Unbeatable price - Sandy's best price, offered without any dickering, was substantially below what we had seen elsewhere online (including TrueCar). I took Sandy's price and aggressively shopped it around at every other Subaru dealer in the metropolitan area. Regular salespeople would see her price, get this far off look in their eye, mumble "that's crazy" and then shoo me out the door. Interestingly enough, other dealers' internet salespeople couldn't get near her low price. After three weeks of that, and reviewing the Forester "Prices Paid" sections of Edmunds and subaruforester.org, I'm confident that we got the best price possible; 2) Straightforward deal - No bait and switch, no high-pressure sales tactics (I hate waiting games the most), no hard sale on warranties and dealer add-ons, just a plain, professional transaction for a car. I, and most other people I think, lament the fact that buying a car can't be more like buying a tv or some other thing with plain and transparent pricing. Our purchase was just that simple. I kept waiting for the trapdoor, none was provided; 3) Nice person - Sandy is very friendly, but not in that cloying "I want to be your best friend so I can sell you this car" kind of way. We had rented a car to drive out to the dealership (we sold our previous car a few weeks before our new Subaru was to be delivered). She volunteered that had she known we were carless, she would have picked us up from the Naperville train station. Before I completed this purchase, I probably would have said no to the offer (my default position on car dealers is "I trust them as far as I can throw them"), but now I know that I could have trusted her to pick me up and not use my carlessness as leverage to gain additional concessions from me. This is something to be mindful of if you're thinking about coming from out of state to take advantage of low pricing; 4) Free Gerald unlimited lifetime powertrain warranty - I'm not sure how this will turn out, but could very well be a sweet bonus. You do have to do all of the factory recommended service. We were very, very pleased overall. Sandy, thank you for going over all the details of the car after the transaction was complete, that allowed us enjoy the features of the car right away without digging through the manual. Will have review of this dealership soon) OUTSTANDING SERVICE AND HELP DURING A VERY TRYING TIME! A driver blew through a red light and t-boned my daughter as she was in the middle of making a left turn. Luckily, she was unharmed, but our brand new 2022 Subaru Outback was demolished. Our insurance company wanted to send it to one of their preferred body shops, but being so new, (it had less than 800 miles on it!), I chose instead to have it towed to Gerald. In the end, that turned out to be a wise decision. We were treated with respect and professionalism from the very first moment. Three times a week, I would get a phone call from Izzy detailing the latest updates, (whether there were any or not, she always called to keep me in the loop). Once they were able to take apart the car and examine the extent of the damage, I was given a comprehensive report meticulously detailing every repair needed in order to fix my car, including sending the car back to the dealership so they could remove the engine to discover the source of an unidentified leak. At this point, the insurance refused to spend the money for this needed step, and the car say there for two weeks while they, (the insurance company) pondered what to do next. The shop's manager Angel, as well as members of his staff, spent many hours on phone and Zoom calls trying to explain to our insurance that in their professional opinion, the car should be totaled. The claims adjuster stubbornly thought otherwise. They clearly spelled out not only the extent of the damage, but the length of time the repairs would take, not to mention the potential of not being able to find all of the replacements parts, given how new the car was. The insurance held tight, meaning they did nothing for a prolonged time. Insurance provided us with a rental car, but only for thirty days, and because they continued to drag their heels for so long, our thirty days were eventually up, and we were suddenly in desperate need of a car. This is when Gerald in my eyes really stepped up and helped us. Angel offered us a loaner, at no cost, for as long as we wanted it. Who knew that the body shop would be more helpful to us than the insurance company we'd been paying premiums to every month? Finally, after another couple weeks, our case was escalated within the insurance company, and the claim was in fact settled as a total. Gerald stood to make a lot of money if they simply said the car could be repaired, but rather than take the money and give the customer a virtually rebuilt version of a brand new car, they chose t do what was best for the customer and insist on deeming it a total. Hopefully, I will never find myself in the position of needing a body shop again, but if I do, I will not hesitate to send it to Gerald Collision Center in Naperville. When you consider that all of this happened during a pandemic, a labor shortage, and an auto mechanic's strike, it makes their level of service only more impressive. AWESOME SERVICE!!! Hands down the best car dealership service that I've ever been to as well as experienced!! I would like to thank KIM KYU (Sales Specialist) for making the whole process as stress-free as possible. My initial contact with her was via text (although she did follow through with a couple phone calls) however I personally preferred and appreciated the ability and follow through of communication via text and email for the majority of my purchasing process. I explained how I lived 1 1/2 - 2 hours from Naperville and I really wanted to have the security that once I submitted and committed to purchasing my (now) jeep, that once I drove that far the next day to meet her with hopes of being able to complete the purchase of my jeep, that it wouldn't be all for nothing or with intentions of being lead in a different direction with regards to sales-pitches and / or attempting to have me purchase a different vehicle. I knew what I wanted and just wanted the process to be done and done! Thankfully when I arrived at the dealership the next day, Kim's word was solid....things were handled very quickly and efficiently and I couldn't have been happier with the service that I received. The great service was also extended beyond Kim's domain, in that due to unforeseen issues with regards to a previous couple, who were now in with one of the financing managers, apparently stumbling across one roadblock after another (I assume) nonetheless, resulting in my once lightening speed service slowly beginning to take a turn in the other direction. However, after waiting for a little while, one of the Sales Managers, JON THONGPHADITH, stepped up and completed the financing / paperwork for me (something that he normally does not handle). Bought a Cross trek because of the reviews. The sales experience was OK, but service was horrible. Every time It was brought in for something minor, they would somehow find some way to rip us off which I always declined. Almost 200 dollars to replace 2 tail light bulbs that I did my self in under 10 minutes for under 15 dollars. I know they need to make a profit, but come on. The worst was a drivetrain issue on a car within the 10 year 100K power train warranty and was told none of it would be covered. They wanted to stick me with a 3 grand repair bill. One of the parts mentioned was the drive shaft. I even contacted Subaru USA and was told they have no control over dealer prices. HOW can something called the DRIVE SHAFT not be covered in the drive train warranty. I had an ASE certified repair shop do the fix for under 300 and I also have a written warranty on parts and labor for life that is honored at over 1,000 different repair shops. I won't even bring the car back for recall work. It was recalled for a defect brake light switch. If it ever goes out, I'd rather fix it out of my own pocket. If this is how Subaru and it's dealers operate, This will be my first and last one. I even owned some of the junk Detroit was making in the 70's and 80's and never had these kind of problems. read more

One thing I love, that sets them apart from any other Subaru on the road, is the pinstriping detail they provide one each car. Makes it a little different. On Monday, November 30, 2020, I was in the process of purchasing a new non-Subaru vehicle. I had previously obtained numerous offers from Dealerships, used car lots, and on-line services, for my very well maintained 2019 Subaru Forester Touring Model. I knew what I could realistically receive for a trade-in and/or outright purchase for my Subaru. I stopped in at Gerald Subaru of Naperville, located at 2379 Aurora Ave. Naperville, IL 60540 and was promptly greeted by Michael "Mike" O'Brien, a Sales Consultant. After a brief discussion as to the purpose of my visit, in which I informed Mike that I was just interested in selling my Subaru and would not be making a purchase. Mike obtained basic information regarding my Subaru. While my vehicle was being appraised by their staff, Mike and I sat in his office and had a relaxed social conversation. Within ten minutes, I was informed of their offer, which was comparable to other Dealer's offers. I advised Mike that I had an on-line offer for $1,700.00, more than their offer. I provided Mike with written documentation of that price, which he took to the powers to be. Within in a few minutes, he came back and advised that they would match the on-line price, which would be good for a week (not positive if it was exactly a week). I thanked him and advised him that I would return, if I couldn't make a similar deal, when I purchased the new vehicle. He reminded me, that their price would still be available. The entire process took less than thirty minutes! I ended up purchasing a vehicle at a different Dealership, due to Gerald Auto Group not selling that line. The other Dealership does not sell the Subaru brand and would not match on-line price for my Subaru. I then returned to Gerald Subaru and met Mike in his office, I informed him that I would like to take him up on his offer. The process went smoothly and once again I was out the door in a short period of time, without my Subaru and the previous agreed upon amount. I would strongly recommend that anyone interested in making a purchase and/or sale of a vehicle to contact Michael "Mike" O'Brien. Working with Mike was easy, comfortable, and not intimidating. Mike was very knowledgeable in regard to the process of purchasing my vehicle and everything went smoothly. He definitely does not fit the negative image of a "Car Salesman"! Buyer beware. They quote the most competitive price but when you arrive at the dealership they add $800 of dealer installed options. These options are film on the door frame and some security program if your car is stolen you reimbursed money. The value of these items does not appear to be $800. They will low ball your trade. The staff is pretty decent despite this corporate philosophy of dealer installed options. I would look at Brilliance Subaru for a better buying experience. read more

I bought a new 2013 Subaru Outback from this dealer last week and we LOVE it. Our sales guy, Carlos, was very patient with us while we test drove the Outback and the new 2014 Forester. I really like the ride of the Outback better and ended up with a new red Outback. I did 90% of the negotiation on the internet and then went into the dealership for the final discussion and paper signing. No hard sell and all the BS that usually accompanies the purchase of a car. I took the car in today to have the protection package applied. The people in service were very professional and explained what was going to happen. It's always fun to get a new car but I hate negotiating. My experience was mixed with the sales side of the purchase. I'm a detail person so I want a sales person who is organized and knows the cars inside and out. My salesman was nice but his knowledge was slightly lacking. Lucky the internet provided me with the specs I wanted on the car. I typically know what I want and don't let sales people up sell me but I did feel they were pressuring me on the maintenance package. The dealership is dated and the parking lot if inadequate. We had a tail light replaced here and they scratched up the back corner panel pretty badly in the process and said nothing. We brought it back in and they handled it fine with no pushback, lent us a car and fixed it. It looks fine now. This was pretty inconvenient for our family but my main issue was the way I was treated. I came in both times with two car seats and my two year old and NOT ONE person offered to help me carry anything or move anything in or out. I get that they aren't able to install car seats however a little assistance with juggling everything is the least I could ask for. Meanwhile my curious child is trying to explore while I'm trying to reinstall car seats. It's not the safest place for a child, I get it but I wasn't going to pay a sitter to deal with this issue that Gerald service people caused. It was already three to four hours of my time wasted and I wasn't going to spend any more money for their carelessness. I will NOT return to this dealership. I will go to the Aurora Subaru dealership with my money from here on out. New cars and all. read more

We bought a Subaru Outback from Hubert and were very happy with the service provided. We were only intending on shopping around at first, but decided to move forward with the outback. Hubert was very professional, friendly, and no pressure. He was very knowledgeable about the specs of each model and took his time explaining everything. The dealership is also nicely maintained and the waiting area is comfortable. They also offer appointments to learn about how to use all of the features in the car. This place is a Scam. Came here ready to buy a new car and Trade my old one. I was offered $1,500 for my trade which is a 2013 Toyota Corolla in Great condition which was a total Scam. I went to (Napleton's Schaumburg Subaru) they offered me $5,200 upon inspection for my 2013 Toyota Corolla. Went in Friday to price a car, Christian the salesperson, Quoted me a price at the beginning, I asked him to send that price to me via email or write it down on paper but in the course of 15 minutes he forgot which makes me think he was playing games. I never received an email from this guy, what a piece of work.. You might have earned my business being honest but you chose not to... you Christian are a joke! I emailed the internet manager Manny Saturday and he apologized and said the his manager would reach out to me.. so far nothing, so much for correcting the bad experience i had..
