So first, don't even consider them if you're not planning on filing an insurance claim because they've never even got close to quoting me less than $500. What really gets me (I've used them 3 times over the last 5 years) is how slow they are. Going in for an estimate? It's gonna be at least an hour (with appointment). Dropping your car off for service? Going to be at least an hour. The customer service is pleasant enough, but what I value more is my time and this location doesn't seem to grasp the value of time. Update: Management reached out to me personally to apologize and they turned around my paint job within 24 hours. I appreciated the move since my vehicle had a car seat installed. The work itself ended up being decent, but I was *extremely* unhappy that I had to come back another day, make another whole trip and waste MY time and resources because Gerber planned poorly! And, as it turns out, they weren't even able to put on the invisible door guard which was written up on the estimate. A very disappointing result overall, and NOT what I've come to expect from Gerber. Kinda looks like this: Was the work done? Yes. Was it on time? No. Was it as stated? No. And I have to say, for the amount of work done, the price seemed high to me, but since (up to now) I've always had excellent work from Gerber, I was willing to pay a premium price. Based on the necessity of my return trip, I'm regretting that I committed to using them at this location. After painting all 4 sides of my brand new SRT8 car due to vandalism, Gerber put a soft ball sized dent in my LF fender and said that was there!! It's been a year since I had my car "fixed" there from an accident. They forgot to install multiple things from the external thermostat to the wiring for my Auto Unlock/lock feature. My steering wheel is still mounted crooked and there was a brand new dent that they refused to take ownership of. A couple days later I drove in and had a guy look at it quick and he said they'd send a text about setting an appointment to fix it but they were very dismissive and I never got the text. Also while leaving that day two employees got into a verbal altercation in the back fenced area that got rather heated with some violent threats, felt it was better to not go back. I had to take my bumper off to install a new external thermostat as my car wouldn't pass emissions and wasn't showing the external temp, still can't figure out how to get my auto lock/unlock fixed as the wires aren't there. My insurance told me I had to take it back to them and I just couldn't do it and let it drop as I figured I could figure it out with less hassle as the car was still drivable. If your auto insurance recommends taking your car to Gerber, DO NOT LISTEN!!! In retrospect, I was silly and naive because the insurance adjuster seemed like he wanted to help me, but now I know they're trained to scam you. My car was in an "Act of God" accident where something flew from a truck going the opposite direction onto my car. It was oblong shaped so every time it bounced onto the highway, it bounced back in a different direction and hit my car all over. If my daughter weren't in the car to witness it, I might not believe that it happened. I will be the first to admit that it sounds unlikely, but what would be my motive to lie? It doesn't really matter how my car got destroyed, it is my insurance company's responsibility to cover the repairs less my deductible. From the very beginning, Gerber claimed the damages were "pre-existing". They didn't fix anything on my car beyond making it run again. Even though I provided photos of the car pre-accident and there were no dents on the car, they refused to fix any of the dents. God only knows what they didn't fix under the hood. Let me tell you, this is the gift that keeps on giving. Since the accident more than a year ago, my car continues to have pieces break that my new mechanic says could only have happened from the accident. I didn't sue Gerber because the lawyer I talked to said that it would cost more to try to prove my case, and I would've been better off suing for personal injury. Apparently emotional distress is not considered an injury. When I finally found an honest mechanic who would vouch for my story, I only had a month left to sue. I work full time and have 3 kids; I just didn't have the time or energy. Oh, and before I dropped my car off at Gerber, I had all the pieces to change a tire and attach the spare back under my car. Shortly after I got my car back, I got a flat tire (the tire shop which was a chain said that the flat most likely was caused by the accident but because he worked for a big corporation, he wouldn't go on record). I called AAA and realized that Gerber had stolen all my tools to change the tire and attach it back under the car. When I called them to retrieve the tools, they ignored me. This is the most dishonest auto repair shop I have ever encountered and wish I had written this review sooner. This is steaming from an accident that happened in January of 2023. Against my better judgement I chose to deal with this place despite their horrible customer service and going back and forth with them even before dropping off my car for repair, and because they are the company that my insurance company recommends. Down through the years we always dealt with Gerber but out of Buffalo Grove and that is really where I should of took my business but was trying to stay close to home. The claim number regarding this is 052238697. When picking up my car I noticed two things how filthy the roof of my car was interiorly and that my garage opener was missing to my townhome. I go in and ask that they clean the roof of the car and the young man had no problem with that. I then ask to speak to mgmt and in comes this (Michelle Wells). She at first assumed that the GATE OPENER for the town home (that I had just put in the car during the (pickup) was the garage opener and showed me pics of my garage opener originally in which I kindly instructed her what was now in my car was not the opener but the GATE OPENER that I had kept with me in my purse in order to go back and forth to the townhome and be able to get into the community. She understood and told me to find a garage opener (not expensive) and they would reimburse me. She told me to contact Sue (receptionist) I did and nothing happened there so I took the initiative and found my own garage opener for a little over 30 bucks. I call Sue no response after repeatedly calling and not being able to get through I go up there and talk to Sue who told me to send her the email with the purchase of the opener I go to my car and send that email and she responds received and still nothing. This is now June. I called Michelle on 5/22/2023 and she was looking into it and it is now 6/6/2023 and nothing. This has got to be the absolute worst shop/ customer service I have EVER experienced. I am honestly convinced they have preschoolers in the shop doing these repairs. The manager Michelle is an absolute garbage manager/ human being, that wont fix her shops terrible repair/ paint job. She finally told me, after going back for the SIXTH time, to take it too a new shop because she said "I don't think we can make you happy". Run as fast as you can from this place. I told every customer in the parking lot to go some place else and explained my situation. Girl friends brand new 2022 car, was hit on the front passenger side bumper. Car has 5000 miles on it, I had a professional clear bra (PPF) installed and that saved most of the paint. Headlight broke/ few other random odds and ends. Went to Gerber as the insurance company recommended them. Repair takes about two weeks, no big deal, I get it. We go to pick the car up and I noticed a bunch of small damaged components that where not damaged prior to dropping it off. (such as scratching on the hood, there was no damage to the hood in the accident/ bent plastic pieces with stress cracks/ ect) Most of it looked like damage from the tech's removing parts of the bumper to replace. They also missed the damaged wheel well plastics. Told them to keep it and fix it. This back and forth to the shop happens multiple times to fix small stupid mistakes they caused/ or never fixed. I would go into more detail but I am limited on characters. Take her car back today to have washer fluid tank fixed and the drivers side clear coat fixed. John the shop foreman has the new tank installed, and they wet sanded/ buffed the areas. Which fixed the hazy clear coat but not the drivers side clear coat pealing or the sanding scratches (though they're harder to see now). Again i felt rushed, so I backed into a parking spot to inspect in the sun light and still see all the damage. I bring John back out and he said he's getting the manager because he cant do anything. Michelle comes out and listens to everything I point out that still needs to be fixed. She said she will buff that spot with the sanding scratches... I told her that wont fix the problem its a BAD paint job and bad prep. She pointed out the rock chip damage which I already knew about and knew they wouldn't fix that. (Clear bra saves this, but you cant install it after a new paint job because paint needs to offgas/ cure and its VERY soft for the first few months after fresh paint. Plus their paint job sucked and I didnt want to waste getting a clear bra put on to remove again and six their crap paint job). I told her the sanding scratches need to be fixed, this is a brand new car and my sixth time returning. She then proceeded to say "You know what, I don't think we're going to make you happy. Take the car to a new shop and we will pay half". You're kidding right? Gerber is supposed to guarantee their work. What a joke of a human being, I didn't think it was that possible to be so ignorant to your shops horrible work. I am not asking for much, but the paint should look pretty damn close to what it did when it left the show room floor. I don't expect complete perfection, but I should see sanding scratches in a paint repair on a brand new car. read more

Service was not good. My car was rear ended and this was one of the places my insurance covered. Plus at the time it was close to home. I talked to Tom and he told me my car would be ready on that Thursday. So when I called there Thursday to confirm that the car was ready. It was not. Car wasn't ready for another 2 weeks after. When I got my car back they were un able to finish the blind spot censors and they said that what they had wasn't calibrating with the one that wasn't broken. So they needed to order another one. This took 7 months to figure out! No one ever called me with any updates. I constantly had to call and Tom was terrible at getting back to me. Till I finally went over his head and dealt with Michelle the office manager. She was nice. But at that point her customer service skills could not mend my experience. We notice the OEM floor mats have gone missing. We ask the staff to look for the floor mats, but they could not find them. I spoke with the manager, Michelle, and she told me the floor mats were supposedly never there. I wanted to set up an appointment to have my mirror fixed. Since I needed one of the parts painted to match my car, I called to request the parts be ordered ahead of time. Twice. (A Saturday and the following Tuesday). Each time, the chick at the desk said that person wasn't available and she would leave a message. I felt more like an inconvenience than a potential client to these folks. Long story short, I never received a call or even an acknowledgement that I called to do business with them. This has been my worst experience yet in 25 years of owning a car and getting work done.. I was in a hit and run which is frustrating in itself. My insurance works with this location and it is close to my house which is why I chose it. My first impression was not a good one and set the stage for what was to come. While checking in at the lobby, the woman at the desk called out to a man who had just entered to let him know I had arrived so he could go over with me the work that needed to be done. He (later turned out to be Jim) snapped at her "that he needed a minute" for what turned out to be a whole 5 minutes of his time when he finally re-emerged from the back area. I showed him where I was rear ended and an additional dent I had in my side door and a scratch. I asked for estimates and for that to be done as well. The next day my insurance came out and he (Jim) called me and told me the cost to repair it and said he still needed to get an estimate for the additional work and I told him that whatever it was to just get it done. The next day I missed his call but was told that my car was being unassembled and prepped and "everything was going smoothly." Nothing until 5 days later when he called to inform me that my bumper was back ordered because of production delays due to the labor shortage. This was now a week later after initial drop off. My choices were to wait it out or to put the old bumper on and come back to finish when it comes in. They had already fixed a dent in my lift gate and my car was currently in paint as we were speaking. I didn't love getting my car back half fixed but there was nothing I can do. 2 days later Jim called me again to inform it was still "in paint" and hopefully would be ready to go by Monday of next week. Meaning I would get my car back 2 weeks later. I told my husband who said that was unacceptable. He called back Jim to tell him that we need it before the weekend. Jim then told him that unless we hear otherwise it would be ready by 4:30 on Friday. We show up at Friday at 4:30 and the car was still un assembled with all service techs gone. When someone still there called him and put him on speaker phone, Jim admitted that he "forgot to call us" to tell us that the car was not ready. I guess another side effect of the pandemic is a shortage of customer service. So my husband finally gets the keys back on Monday night. We pick it up Tuesday morning from the lot. The next morning at 6:00am on my way to work, in the dark, a car next to me starts honking and gesturing for me to roll down my windows at a stop light. The driver then informs me I do not have any brake lights. As I'm halfway to work I have no choice but to put hazard lights on and drive slowly, fearing that I will be rear ended again the whole way. I arrive to work furious and wait for the shop to open. When it does I ask to speak to the general manager right away. The receptionist puts me on hold after asking for my name but then informs that Jackie is conveniently in meetings the whole day. I tell her what happened and she tells me to bring it back but the manager never calls me back. When I do return early evening , somebody from the shop fixed it quickly but tells me "it was inspected but the bulbs must have burnt out." Sure...my car is less than a year old with 7500 miles on it. Clearly that must have happened and just coincided with them un-assembling my car. So to cut my long story short....if you don't mind not having your car for a lengthily amount of time and receiving a car that is unsafe and not checked and not to mention half fixed and also do not mind being lied to at every turn then this might be the place for you. Oh by the way...that scratch and other dent unrelated to my accident are still there. Never bothered fixing it. Jackie, even after my insurance talked to her about my situation , hasn't bothered to contact me 10 days later. Needless to say my bumper will be installed at a different location as I value my time and most importantly my safety. read more

The situation : Couple months ago I was rear ended and need my bumper fixed and painted. Luckily, its covered by insurance and the insurance recommended 2 of their preferred vendors near where I live. One of the vendor is Gerber. So, like you I don't know anything about them and look them up here and became hesitant because of the mixed reviews. It's either raving 5 stars or the crappiest 1 stars review. I bit the bullet and decided to do it, plus I told myself good or bad, I'm gonna try to lay it out here. Appointment and initial service : 4 Stars Initial appointment was easy and quick. The initial service when I brought my car in was pretty painless with very little wait. The sales/estimator took picture and necessary info and was able to get the process going in no time. So why just 4 stars then, I had a hard time getting an initial total cost # from them and they changed the # once due to underestimation on a part. They told me early enough into the process, so I'll give them the benefit of doubt. Plus insurance is covering it. Time of work : 5 Stars The estimated 2 weeks for the work to be completed. They had a nice system that keep tracks and inform of the status phone/web. They completed the job early and I was able to get my car in like 10 days! Quality of work: 4 Stars They fixed everything and paint job was great. But, they missed a part which once I pointed out to them, it was taken care of immediately and promptly the same day. They also had some paint on my rear windshield, no biggy I just took some rubbing alcohol done but as a pro, that's a lousy miss. Pricing: 3 Stars I do believe they are at the high end of the cost structure. I'm sure there many other places willing to take care of the issue at had for less. After service customer care : 4 stars There were other minor situation, and I called in for resolution, They were helpful and willing to acoomodate. Bottomline : - I think they do a good job and will most likely return to them if I need collision service or paint service. I do recommend them to others. read more

After someone smashed in my passenger window to steal my car radio, I didn't know what to do -- I have to use my car daily to drive to and from work and I didn't have time to drop it off somewhere, rent a car, etc. Luckily, Gerber's website is very easy to obtain a quote from. After I filled out the information, I received a follow-up call in about 15 minutes to try to schedule an appointment. They let me know that I could drop my car off before work and pick it up after work and the window would be ready to go -- you can't get much more convenient than that! Well, I arrived at Gerber in Downers Grove at 7:45 in the morning and they greeted me with a smile. After checking me in (which took less than 5 minutes), I asked if they could pull my car into the garage even though my actual appointment wasn't until 9:00 since I was windowless. They said it was no problem and pulled it into the garage right then and there. When I arrived back after 5:00, my check out quick and easy (less than 5 minutes). I got into my car and noticed not only had they replaced the window, but they vacuumed up countless shards of glass that I didn't have the time to clean up. They went above and beyond what was requested and did so very quickly and efficiently. And, of course, it was a very reasonable price -- only $175 (after tax!) to replace the entire window. Ugh. As if having the windshield on our brand new car get cracked by a rock wasn't annoying enough, we tried to have it replaced by Gerber. We had an appointment for them to come to our office to fix it. We were told that the tech would call us in the morning to give an approximate time. After not hearing anything by lunchtime, my husband called them. They couldn't come out to do it because of the weather (understandable), but hadn't bothered to call us. We were told that the tech would call us when he got back from lunch and we could bring it in then and they'd replace it in the shop. Great. More than two hours later after not hearing anything we called them. They'd forgotten to call us. Again. This was not inspiring confidence in them. But we dropped the car off anyway, in what seemed to be an unplowed slippery sloppy parking lot, which is annoying to have to walk through. Anyway, a bit later we get a call from Gerber telling us that the windshield they'd ordered to replace ours was broken. So we went back and picked up our car and rescheduled the appointment for another day. The next appointment day came around any my husband dropped off the car. I think they had it for quite a bit of time before they called him and told him that they could not replace the windshield because it had some sensors that they didn't know how or weren't equipped to do or some such thing. How did they not figure that out last time they had the car? It's really irritating that we wasted over a week going back an forth with them and in the end, our windshield is still broken. Absolutely horrible service. My car needed a glass replacement and what should've taken 2 days took 2 weeks. It might have took longer if I didn't follow up to check the status. And when they finally came to fix the window, they brought the wrong glass. I've dealt with a few collision centers in the area and this place has to be the worst experience (by a long shot) I've had and probably will ever have with a car repair service. After I called the main 630 local number and was on hold with the automated assistant for 15 minutes, I hung up and called the 877 nationwide number and was able to get a live person much quicker. The $70 repair to fix a divit less than the size of half of a dime was "fixed" 2 months ago. When the tech came out, there was a 1/4 hairline crack coming out of the divit. After he said it was fixed, the hairline was still there. He didn't fix anything. Sure enough, 2 months later their "warranty" states I will have to buy a new windshield which means I can fork out another $125 and they will "credit" me the $70 I already gave them. I don't need a new windshield, I need you to do what you say you can do and fix a crack the right way the first time, thanks. read more

Our insurance company had recommended Gerber, and their staff was friendly enough with our visits there. The problem lied in their communications about when the work was going to get done. We were getting married the following week after our accident, and we made this very clear to the individuals working there. They said the car would be ready well before that, but it took an office visit and 4 (!) different "estimated completed dates" before we were able to get the car back. When people are making plans for alternate transportation, these dates are important.. but Gerber did not treat the dates in this manner. I have had my car fixed by them a few times and they ALWAYS do an amazing job. This last time I took it in was for hail damage. They estimated 2 weeks to complete all of the work. They work with enterprise who comes and picks you up with a rental car. They make sure to tell enterprise to give you similar to what you drive, so if you drive a small SUV you get a small SUV, not some little compact car. When you pick up your car, you leave the rental there and give them the keys and have no more worries. They finished my car about a week early. It looked amazing but the corner panel inside my trunk space wasn't snapped properly. Called them and took it in and had it fixed within 15 minutes of being there. They were very apologetic and had amazing customer service. Normally everything is done right the first time, but if not, you have confidence they will make it right ASAP. They are the only company I trust to work on my vehicles. My wife's car also was fixed there. They finished it early and it was perfect. As for other reviews, the parking lot is small and slightly slipped but not much. It's about a 20 step walk to the front door, so not that bad. That could just be me though. read more

my husband was involved in a really bad car accident during the really bad storm that came on 01/1/2014, I had I set in my mind to go to a place in Oak Park that I took my car to before. But after realizing that the guy who fixed my car was not longer working with the company I was looking to find something different. My husband stated that it would be best to find something locally where it would be easy to pick up the car when done feeling very skeptical I said for get it. I anticipated my car taking a long time to get done (it did not) they had a rental lined up (awesome rental) and kept us posted on the car an had it finished in a fair amount of time. When going to pick up my car I just knew in the back of my head that I was going to be able to see the flaw but I was shocked . My little red cobalt look good as knew. OMG I had to hug the guy who came out an brought my keys. I must say I recommend and would go back again if I had to (but not too soon lol). I contacted Gerber Collision and Glass recently to put in an order to repair my driver side mirror. The receptionist that answered the first time said please hold really fast and then put me on hold. No introduction. No may I put you on hold. When they picked up the line again, they passed me to the production manager who told me the estimator would call me hopefully by the end of that day. No phone call back in two days. So I called again and got no answer. The line rang long enough that I ended up at a call center which also didn't pick up. I tried a second time and got a decent intro with the please hold again. When they got back on the line, I let them know what I needed and they passed me over to the estimate guy. Who didn't pick up the phone either. After 8 minutes, I hung up and called my regular mechanic. They will be fixing the mirror thank you very much. read more

I can't say enough good things about this shop and it's employees. After I left my car for repairs, I ended up in the hospital TWICE! On top of that I ran into financial problems with my bank account having money removed leaving me unable to pay my deductible and pick up my car for the better part of 8 weeks. The manager was kind and understanding, working with me to make payments. Wendy at the front desk is just a plain old fashion awesome human being. She represents this company in a superior manner. On top of that, my inability to physically pick up my car didn't stop me from getting my car back. They made arrangements to have it delivered to me up in Schaumburg!!! My car looks perfect and as you can see I can't say enough good things about the employees and how superbly they represent Gerber! I really wish 0 stars was an option. My car has been in the shop for four weeks. I understand if it could take a while. It's busy and they receive a lot of business. I have called 8 times over the past 4 weeks to try and receive ANY information on what was wrong with the car and when it would be ready. Not an exact date, but just a relative time. Every time I called I received no information with a promised returned call from the mechanic. Not once did the mechanic call back. They also lied in a call saying they tried calling when I received zero calls from them. Finally I called one more time where they admitted they forgot about my car and were behind. My insurance company has them as a recommended vendor. This was a minivan that had been hit on the drivers side. The repairs took a bit longer than expected, but more importantly during the process they made deep scratches on the front windshield, and they failed to remove many glass chards inside the car from the broken side window. In summary, these folks were careless and very sloppy. I handpicked up the glass, and was able to fill up two dixie cups worth. I called them back, got someone snooty and just elected not to pursue because I don't have the time to haggle. I know what they did and for sure would not return. I'm only writing this review because another car was hit and now I am trying to figure out where to send for repairs. Gerbers has flooded the airwaves with ads and they have many locations, but trust me when I say that bigger does not not translate into better, it only means they are big. read more

Their waiting area is right in the middle of the office area and the counter where people, who are waiting for their cars, can get coffee but the workers fridge where they keep their lunch is right next to the coffee and stuff. I say they should keep the away from the waiting room and the stuff for the customers. read more

We had our Toyota 4 Runner front bumper repaired here a month or so ago. The parts were ordered quickly and the repairs were done ahead of schedule which was nice. They also washed the truck. Overall a very good experience, we would use them again (but hopefully we won't have to)! read more

The only reason I am reviewing this location is because my receipt provides this address, but I actually called the location on Huron for an appointment. Car window broken into on a Saturday night andhad to wait until Monday AM to find a body shop for a replacement. I called and the nice receptionist informed me it would be faster for a mobile service that bringing the car in. I called at 730 and the tech called me at 1030 and said he was picking up the glass and would be on the way. Completely professional and quick (I still had to get to work!!!) he did a supub job and cleanup. $20 off if you schedule a appt online! read more

I have been to this Gerber location twice within the last six months. Both experiences were great. Unfortunately, my parked car was hit twice. The staff at Gerber was friendly, efficient and a pleasure to work with. Both times the repairs were superb and I received excellent customer service. And they detail your car! So it came back to me cleaner and in much better shape. They are affiliated with Enterprise, so the transition to a rental car was seamless. They had me in and out quickly and sent email updates regarding the progress of the repair, which is really helpful. They worked with me and my crazy schedule, which means a lot. I will continue to recommend this location to friends and family. I hope I don't see them any time soon, but if I do, I know the experience will be pleasant. read more

DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY. THEIR CUSTOMER SERVICE IS HORRIBLE AND THEY DO POOR AND IMPROPER WORK. May 1, 2019 My insurance company sent me here to replace a crack in my windshield. I schedule a date about a week out for the replacement but on that day, no one showed up. I called to find out why and they could not tell me why this was missed. They said someone would call me back the next day to schedule a new date. I waited the whole next day but they did not call. I had to call myself a day later to get it scheduled again. They again gave me a date about a week out. Since it was during the business, I had it scheduled at my office. Then on the scheduled day, I get a call from the technician day that he will show up about 6pm. I told him I would not be at that location at 6pm but he said he couldn't do anything. He said that they are overworked and that I would need to talk with a manager. After I spoke with a couple people, I finally got someone to come out that day. It was finally replaced but it took two weeks, many calls and time to make this happen. June 25 Update Two weeks ago, I took my car to the car wash for the first time since the windshield was replaced. Water started coming in near the rearview mirror. I called Gerber and I was told that a new windshield would be put in. I asked it it would be a new windshield or just fix the leak. I was told they replace the windshield when there are leaks. I scheduled an appointment a week out. When the technician arrived, I showed him where the leak was and he said he would change the glass. 30 minutes later he said that since there was a small skip in the glass, he could not replace it. He said he just fixed the leak. And he showed me that it was fixed by taking a hand held water bottle mister and spraying the area and it was not leaking. I said the water pressure of rain driving at 70 mph or a car wash was far more pressure than the bottle. I said I was disappointed since we really don't know if the leak is fixed and that I was told the proper way to fix this is replacing the windshield. said I needed to speak with the dispatcher. I went in my office to call the dispatcher. I then get a text from the technician stating that a dispatcher will call me and that he left my keys in the car and left. 3 hours later, still no call from the dispatcher. read more
