terrible, terrible terrible! I would never recommend this place to anyone. They had my car since August 25th. I got my car back from them two times and both times when I got it back there were Issues. The first issue being they forgot to hook up my calibrator, and I end up having no breaks with my baby in the car and the second time they forgot to hook up the airbags. They still have not seem to fix the issue that we brought it there for. We did have to go through insurance and I do feel like we should've gotten our full deductible back which is $1000. And they only said they were able to give us $500 to this day my car is still not working correctly. we are considering taking further actions with how they handled everything. I am very happy with my experience at Gerber Collision & Glass of Sycamore! My car was hit while parked and the front drivers side door needed to be replaced with some other touching up. They finished it within a reasonable manner and were sure to give me updates throughout the process. Their staff was personable and friendly! I stopped in to get an estimate for a back fender that received some major scratches due to my wife side swiping the light pole next to our driveway. They said that the only way to get all the scratches out would be to pull the fender off sand and repaint at about $575. They said however if you go to Farm/fleet or comparable for a scratch removal product that I could get most of the scratches out myself. Boy were they right. Took me an hour but the fender looks great. The point here is they could have said I needed to do a repaint but were honest enough to give me another solution for a product that only cost me $7. My F150 was backed into and needed the bumper repaired. My state farm agent Micah Stoddard recommended Hayes Body Shop and I was not disappointed. Mark at the front desk is very professional and will get you in and out with an estimate VERY quickly. I was in and out within 15 minutes with estimate in hand. They also work very close with state farm and I didn't have to do any additional leg work to get everything covered and taken care of. Hayes was able to get me in the very next week. Mark called me around 10am the day I dropped it off to let me know my truck would be ready by noon. I picked up my truck later that day and was very impressed with the work. The bumper looked better than the day I bought the truck. Hayes also took the time to clean my entire truck, which was long over due. They also gave me some left over paint to touch up any other dings on my truck. I would recommend this place to anyone needing top of the line body work. read more

But, when my car does have to go to the car doctor and I lived in the corn I would take it here. It's a family run operation so pride is a main factor in their work. Two weeks ago, my daughter was involved in a car accident. From it, our car had a sizable amount of front end damage. Due to the fact, it is an older car with high miles, I had covered only liability insurance on it. In retrospect, I regret not having collision but lesson learned. I had Hayes' take a look at the car for an estimate because the owner of a local car sales/repair shop highly recommended them. This owner assured me that Hayes would still be willing to work with me since I would be paying out of pocket. Unfortunately, there was no willingness from Hayes. I waited a full day for a quote, after not receiving a call from them, I called and a younger man gave me (what seemed to be) an off the cuff verbal quote. I was quoted $2500. After reminding him, there was no collision on the car, I felt he was impatient in talking with me and I had to ask for a written quote. I immediately asked my spouse to call Hayes since I was so unsettled. When my spouse called, he received the same impatient answers and a verbal list of everything that need to be fixed. My spouse used to work for a Special Investigative Unit for a large and nationally known insurance company and challenged some of the items to be repaired. He was immediately rushed off the phone and directed to speak with the owner. The owner NEVER called us back and we ultimately had to go and check on our car. Interestingly enough, our estimate increased another few THOUSAND dollars to $5003.00 WOW!!!! As a business owner, I am saddened to see such weak customer service. As a parent, I am even more saddened to experience this kind of treatment. My daughter endured her first car accident so we lost a lot of sleep and many tears were shed. It is so sad and disgusting to see how immune this car shop is to situations such as this. So, I have read the 4 and 5 star ratings for this shop, but my bet is that a majority of the satisfied customers come from those that received services through their insurance coverage. Take that factor out and I feel this shop merely wants to make as much money as they can without any thought to whether some repairs really are necessary. I will NEVER be back. read more

I went to Hayes Body shop in Dekalb, IL to get an estimate for a door dent. The man at the Body Shop told me I needed a new door. I asked him if the dent could be repaired without replacing the door. He proceeded to tell me to leave because he did not like my attitude. I told him thank you and left. I then went to 2 other body shops for estimates one of which was the Honda dealership and they both explained that they could repair the door. No replacement required! I cannot in good faith recommend this place. In my estimation they do not care about their customers, only money. A while back I had an accident and needed some body work. Insurance paid for everything and the body work done was fine. But once I got the car back, something was wrong with the car that was not broken before. I contacted Hayes, thinking it would be straightened out. After all, my insurance had just paid them thousands of dollars. However...they did not want to fix it for free, even though it was clearly their fault. They told me to take it up with the insurance. I tried to sort it out civilly but they resorted to browbeating me and my significant other over the phone, just trying to get rid of us. I've had 3 experiences with Hayes. 1) they fixed collision damage, 2) replaced a broken door handle, and 3) gave me a cursory quote after hitting a deer. The collision damage repair looked nice, but they returned the car with the automatic window not working (they fixed it later). I still have a rattle in the driver's side door that started after their work (something's loose inside). They needed to order a part to fix my door handle...but never called me back (as they said they would). I called after ~ 5 weeks...they forgot about me. Most recently, I asked for a quote after hitting a deer...they looked at the car, took my info...told me they would call...they never did. HORRIBLE CUSTOMER INTERACTION! Don't let your young adult children speak with Mr. Hayes. Had body work done on my son's car after someone backed into him causing significant damage. The work done on the car was top quality. However, apparently my 18 yr old son asked a very "offensive and unwarranted" question about a scratch on the car. Mr. Hayes screamed and swore at him in the office and told him to never come back. After I arrived, Mr. Hayes continued to go on a disturbing rant, including calling us "those kind of people" and that he has to protect himself from people like us. This bizarre event went on for quite some time. I tried to explain that my son was young and new to all of this and that he meant no disrespect. I am thoroughly disgusted with Randy Hayes and the manner in which he spoke to my elderly mother while her husband is dying on hospice. This "businessman" told my mother he would gladly help her get her lift gate fixed and work around her care-giving schedule. He said to give him two hours' notice when she had someone to stay with Dad and he would fit her in. However, when she called, Randy proceeded to tell her he could "pencil her in" next week and couldn't work with her because she'd missed too many appointments. He actually had the nerve to raise his voice at a grieving and desperate elderly woman, reducing her to tears. When I confronted Randy, he was dismissive, rude and also raised his voice at me, finally hanging up on me. Do NOT give this man your business. Do NOT trust his word. And, by all means, NEVER entrust your elderly family members to the care of Hayes Body Shop. read more

These guys are great. There was an expensive way to fix the car (buy the new part) or less expensive (fix the part). It was a running board, so not at all integral to the safety or the running of the car. When I was in a time crunch to get the car back, they doubled up on the employees fixing the car so that I could get it back in time to do my essential errand.
