I am so not happy about my Porsche having all kinds of new problems now since I picked it up from there shop... not to mention that it was literally there for 2 years, which resulted in my husband having to buy another car for me to drive (which was another expense on top of still paying car payments on (not to mention paying for full coverage car insurance for the Porsche while it sat there in the shop for 2 years). And charged me over $8,000 when it was supposedly fixed, but unfortunately (got it back with more problems that was caused by them) check engine light also came back on 2days after picking it up (with a DTC P0442 - small evap leak ) and they charged me another $1,100 for a vapor canister and the same check engine light P0422 code came back on a day later. They tried to tell me that I now will a new PCM (power control module) which they now say is the reason the same P code came on. (My car has never had so many issues since it was there (for 2 years). After taking it to another (better) repair facility since then, Turns out it was a crack on a fuel tank sender. (Another $1800 repair for me ) but thank god the P0442 code is finally fixed correctly. The new mechanic also said they put parts back on my car "backwards " and also found missing parts they lost or failed to put back on which (which my husband personally knows they were there before). after GAR put my car back together like this it's caused other issues and then now being quoted at least another $3000 fix it correctly . Also the new service advisor/service manager Gary @ German Auto Repair (who started working there while car was in their shop ) is the guy that you have to deal with and is vey rude and condescending and is obviously just looking to make commission on your service repairs, I know this because he literally told me he quit a previous job that he was working at because they only paid commission on labor only and not parts. ( Who tells their costumer's that??? Especially when your car is still being worked on in there shop) ??? Unfortunately for me It was a very expensive mistake taking my Porsche here and all the repairs it still needs (now) because of them. I understand that their Porsche mechanic died (unfortunately) while my car was there, but I think the right thing they could of done was to sublet it out where it would've got fixed correctly and I wouldn't of had to keep my car there for 2 frickn years . ;( read more

Well, I had to take my 20 year old BMW to the shop for the first time in probably 20 years. I have done most of the work on the car myself over the last 20 years, but I am now 57 going on 58 and I don't want to keep doing all the work myself. German auto repair, fixed my issues with my car, and even though it cost me quite a bit of money the job was done correctly and the people were friendly. The work was done in a timely fashion. I am very happy to be driving my 20 year old BMW with no payments are in knowing that it has been professionally looked over by German auto repair to make sure that electronically and mechanically it is 100% sound. I would like to personally think Dennis, his son, John, and all the other people at German auto repair for the honest and good work that they did. read more

I am a 73 year old woman and took my car to GAR near end of January and picked it up mid June, 4.5 months to repair. Leaking head gaskets then a timing issue which they could not figure out how to repair. Eventually they towed my care to mbz dealer who diagnosed timing issue which we already knew. Was told by Gary in January it would probably take 2 weeks. A new excuse every time I called. Almost all updates were initiated by me! Every conversation with Gary resulted in him telling me how stressed he was over my car. I incurred bills for car rentals, Ubers, late fees for car tags because car couldn't get smogged. Finally, car is done in June and they charge me the entire amount of the estimate. Would not consider negotiating a reduced fee. In retrospect, I shouldn't have been so nice and should have been parked on their doorstep everyday! If you go there get a date range in writing before you trust them with your car. I wrote a letter to owner with no response. Wish John was still there as he would not have allowed this to happen. read more

Brought my 2004 Volkswagen Touareg in for a diagnostic report. I had a good idea what the problem was, just wanted to be sure. The reporr confirmed what I suspected. Well they wanted to charge me $400 for a new battery which mine is only 2 years old. It was cranking up fine before I brought it there and still does. I declined them to replace my coils and plugs. I did let them replace my headlight. Today I removed the headlight assembly and the cover on the back that keeps moisture out was completely off. I would not recomend them! read more

If I could give zero stars I would, I called today asking for a quote on a timing chain(s) to be replaced on a 2002 vw Jetta 2.8 liter VR6 mk4. He tells me my vehicle is not a VR6 Now I'm a woman, but I went to automotive school, I'm not a YouTube mechanic. I'm like yes it is, he's like no it's not but we're not going to sit here and argue.I proceeded to tell him I just wanted a quote on the timing chain (s) he asked me why, I gave him my reason of it being that I do have misfires and p1340,p1364 he interrupted me and said well why have you not started there? I then proceeded and said I did start there but no change in engine performance. After changing the spark plugs and ignition coils. But I still would like a quote worst case scenario it is a chain(s) he proceeds to ask me is this based upon internet reading I said no I went to school for this, he said well your car doesn't even have chains it has a belt. I felt crazy I was like no it has two chains on the driver side and a belt on the passenger. He then agrees and say yes it has a chain but it's a lifetime chain you don't EVER need to change it, in the service manual it doesn't mention that. In my mind I'm like how are they in business. I said ok so your saying a timing chain is not constantly heating and cooling and the the metal does not stretch causing it to skip a tooth? He said no it will never do that it's a lifetime chain. My vehicle has 178xxx miles on it. After that he said why don't you bring your car in and let a real mechanic diagnose your car! It's 126$ so I get off the phone with him and I felt crazy even though I know what I know and I had to call vw to make sure. Called vw yes my fucking Volkswagen Jetta 2.8 6 cylinder is a VR6 engine. (Gli) model BDF So based of that I would never service my vehicle here based of how as a woman I felt he tried to talk down on me and after me telling him I am an auto tech he went even heavier on me. It's crazy to also see that Dennis is the owner I hope he talks to his techs and masters better read more

Took my daughters BMW because the heater was not working. They had the car over a week then went ahead and changed the radiator without telling us and told us they fixed the heater without calling us first to tell us the cost $1,200! We payed and picked up the car to find out the car still has NO heat!!!!! Now they said it might be something else (blown gasket head) and cost would be extra $3500! Do NOT take your car here unless you want them guessing and charging you and still having unfixed car. So now we are out 1,200 and still No heat. The owner was NO help! I was buying a car from someone on CL - and wanted to find a good shop to get a PPI to determine if i should actually buy the car. Had a conversation with John who went over the PPI, then the next day Dennis the owner called me. Dennis and I had a good and informative conversation on the car, his business and standing behind his work. I felt comfortable going forward with the deal and the prices that Dennis and his shop charges. Labor wasn't cheap, but you're paying for experience and certification. On the day of the purchase i drove up, saw the car spoke briefly with John and Steve then made the deal with the owner of the car. I haven't had my car repaired here, but I almost did. The truth is that their labor charge is decent but they WILL nickel and dime you on the car parts. A hydraulic reservoir is $35 at autozone but they wanted to charge me $80. They quoted me $500 for a rebuilt alternator- Oreilly $200. The man I spoke to, John, immediately gave me attitude when I mentioned about bringing my own car parts. He said "We need to make money of our parts". I understand that a business needs to stay afloat, but being rude to costumers and nickel and dimming them is not the way. It's not like I wasn't going to pay for labor! Bottom-line: If you are a smart driver, then get your car parts yourself and have a different Mechanic like Sears Auto Center take care of it. If you have more money than brains and hate your bank account, then take your car to John. He will love you long time. :) read more

I have to say, John, Albert and Steve, did an amazing job on my wife's Mercedes Benz E350. The communication between John and I was awesome! Anytime that there was something that John felt that needed my attention, he would call and apologize from bothering me and I told him, No Apology necessary, I appreciate the fact that you kept me in the loop with no surprises when I picked up my wife's car! My wife later on that night when we took her baby for a ride said, Wow, I can tell it's running like it was brand new! So I don't know about anyone's else experiences either there or elsewhere, but I've been in the automotive business myself for over almost 30 years myself and they treated me right. Great Experience with German Auto Repair - I took in my 2014 Audi A6C7 for Front & Rear Brakes (Rotors & Pads), Spark Plugs, Oil Change & Water Pump. All this work was done throughout the 2019 calendar year but I always had an update and the turnaround time was to my satisfaction. Professional staff that's knowledgeable and ready to get the job done. I had constant communication and updates from the shop and they even shuttled me to my place of work when I dropped of my vehicle in the morning. Never had any issues after the work was done. Dennis the owner also sent a text to see how everything was going which is something that I really appreciate, even though it may be an automated text it was still nice to have something. John at the front was super respectable, it's all about getting the job done and that's what i'm looking for. disclaimer: i haven't taken my car to get serviced here. what i have done though is ask them to help me with details of the service history of a car i bought, that was serviced here. they were super accommodating, hiding the private details of the previous owner but giving me details about the services they performed. this has been a life saver, since it helps me know what maintenance was done -- so I know that maintenance I need to do. if this is an indication of their dedication to customer service, i have to say BRAVO. great stuff. read more

A year later, the car began dropping when parked. Dennis and John told me to bring it in for a diagnosis. After the diagnosis they immediately informed me that it was still under warranty. 2004 Mini Cooper needed supercharger, & water pump $3400 I get 23 miles down the road in my car loses power as I'm doing 60 miles down the road. I paid for two tows.turns out they forget to connect engine ground wire .to add insult to injury they had lost some balls and decided to go to Ace Hardware and replace them, they also left four bolts loose on my lower motor mount three rattled loose one broke off. I towed my mercedes in from fresno mercedes where i have never experienced such poor customer service anywhere as i did with them. Anyhow German auto repair recieved my car not running and it had been to two mercedes speciality repair shops for a total of 6 months and not one mechanic could figure out what was wrong with it. I came across German auto repair on the internet., I called and explained my issue to the owner and he said bring it in and a few short hours later they had the diagnosis then fixed it and i picked up the car the next business day and it ran like it was brand new. Worst experience ever, ripoff artists a their best!!! took my wife's Jetta for oil leak, was given a cosmetic fix ($500.00 dollars), leak continued, brought it back, was promised by owner to get to the bottom of it, leak continued, third time back was told by John, front guy, that leaks can occur anywhere, really???, and wasn't able to determine that the first time???... new fix estimate $1000.00 dollars!!!... They lie to your face, and while waiting the last time, could hear John giving unsuspecting customers the same song and dance, more repairs required for their cars!!!... taking my case to the BBB, I have all the paperwork, in case they try to refute this review... and I'm going on every social media available to let people know!!! read more

I have a 1995-3 series and have a problem getting rid of it. I'm attached so I just fix her up when she has a problem. German Auto is the place. They tell me when I don't need something, tell me how long I can go without something done on the car and fix all the necessary things in between and thereafter. Dennis is an honest mechanic. Being a female, I always approach a mechanic with my guards up. I prepare myself for the BS I am about the hear and all the things mechanics may say to jack the price up for repairs. I did this at German when I first started going there. Seven years later, my guard have long been down. I never thought I could trust a mechanic as much as I trust Dennis. He even had the heart to tell me to just get a new car because my car, being a 1995 was going through the cycle of wear and tear as expected. Nonetheless, I still have my car and a new 5 series BMW, but I still take the 3 series to Dennis. The 5 series is under warranty. German Auto is a good place. read more
