I am posting this about half a year late since I just found out while reviewing my records. I used to take my Mini Cooper to German Tech and was pretty happy until beginning of 2025. Then for some reason the guy at the front desk (I believe his name was Jim), with whom I had developed a trusting relationship, left. That was after a service I had done on Jan 20, 2025. This service included cabin air filter replacement, engine air filter replacement, oil change, spark plugs, plus some other stuff (total of $2,752). Then I took the car back to them on Aug 26, 2025 (approximately 9,000 miles had been added) since the engine light came on. They came back with a list of things, including cabin air filter ($146 vs $90 back in Jan), engine air filter, spark plugs!!!, oil change, .. (total of $2,013). In addition, they charged me for 8.5 quarts of oil (what engine needs 8.5 quarts of oil). I cannot believe I got scammed this badly. I should have checked my records before agreeing to the repairs. read more

Unfortunately, I have been taken advantage of at other repair shops due to not having much knowledge regarding cars. I can always trust German Tech Auto Repair to do the job right and have my best interest. Prior to going here to get my motor mounts fixed I went to Jiffy Lube and saw a leak that they could not get to the bottom of. Mirek solved the problem right away. In addition, Jiffy Lube was charging me to change my air filters. I thought they had been changed several times but Mirek saved the day. My air filters were so full of dust and had never changed all these years...I was appalled! I had my front bumper hanging on by zip ties due to a car accident and a repair shop taking my insurance money. I could never afford to get that fixed...I drove around like this for years and while I came into the shop to repair my motor mounts they fixed it in addition for free. Also, they always clean my car after the service. Every time I have brought my car in.. he has offered me a loaner car for the day. I am on a budget and Mirek is always honest with me on costs and what is best to make sure my care is running safely. I had a squeeling noise from the front of my car which I thought was the serpentine belt which still made the noise after replacing it. Then I was told it was probably the turbo from a shop but thought it was possibly a bolt based on an online video and hoping since there was only 73k miles on my mk6 GTI. The owner took my car for a drive and listen then after looking further determined it was the turbo. Thank you for replacing the turbo with the new part vs the other shop that was quoting a remanufactured part and though the newer part was somewhat more it was OEM and the overall the labor was a little bit cheaper than the first/other quote. When a broken bolt was found, which they visually showed us (my mechanically inclined friend and I), they were able to remove it for a reasonable price so both problems were fixed. Lastly they warned me of sidewall damage in one of my tires (which I knew about) but a mechanic also found that some of my tires were put on inside-out from the now closed Simi Valley Just Tires, but the T.O. Just Tires fixed both problems using the warranty for the bubble tire. I can only imagine the cost at a dealership considering how overpriced a transmission service was from the dealership recently. I used to take my car to dealership and was getting to a point needing a trustworthy repair place after 8 years of dealership maintenance. About 2 years ago I found this place. I like family business and took my BMW here. Cindy and her dad are great. The guys here who work does a great job at good price. Bmw expensive to maintain but this place is fair. I just did a major repair showed me everything they fixed. Probably saved my car another 3-5 years! I do get to drive 90/80z loaners which is interesting when I have to leave my car in the shop. plain and simple , they are incompetent . Just purchased a 1999 911 porsche and took it there because is the closest place to my home. I clearly told them where the leak was and what the liquid felt like and wasnt coolant , but after few day they called me saying was the radiator leaking and need to be changed . I was surprised but i agreed believing they know what they were doing. After taking the car back home i parked in the same space in the garage and to my surprise in the morning the car leaked same spot was leaking before taking to German tech , unbelievanble . They had the car for a week and they didnt notice the car was still leaking????? I took the car to another mecanic and he already assessed was something else and not the radiator which seemed weird in the first place because i had no sign of lower coolant level or leak under the radiator area. in short they are unprofessional to the core, I will go to court if necessary because i am tired like every one of you to be screwed by mecanics. read more

Having recently moved to Malibu from Santa Monica, I was referred to German Tech by The Tire Man in Thousand Oaks. I have seen mechanics there, over the past year, a total of 6 times...for varying maintenance type repairs to my 2009 528i. The last time was the final straw. After being quoted $23 for a part, the invoice reflected a $185 fee. When i questioned it, the owner said, "Why would I have told you $23 when it is a much more expensive part". I tried to be reasonable and said, "I'm not questioning the cost of the part, I'm telling you that is not what i was told". Ultimately, after shouting and storming in and out of the office by the owner and embarrassment to the receptionist, I was charged the quoted $23 for the part + labor...$155, which i paid. I would never return and would discourage anyone from supporting this establishment. The details of the other visits included inadequate repair of my air conditioning (for which I paid) and a comment I viewed as anti-Semitic made in my presence. Little did they realize, I am Jewish. Although the receptionist apologized, I was so discouraged by the dismissive attitude of the owner, that I approached a lady in the parking lot of Trader Joe's and inquired as to where she took her BMW. I will take mine to her recommendation, which was Mike's Foreign Sports. This was my experience with German Tech and, although it may not be yours, I could never recommend them. read more

In 20+ years of driving, I've never had a used car and I knew I wanted to run my old Chevy Suburban into the ground, so when I fell in love with an '86 Mercedes 280sl over the summer, I had no idea where to turn for advice and repairs. Luckily, I'd seen German Tech while eating dinner across the street once, so I called them and took my new "baby" in for a look-see. Merik was able to tell me what needed to be fixed now, and what might be a problem later on. Not only that, the total for my repairs was not at all shocking - everything (parts and labor) was priced reasonably. When I picked up my car, it was detailed and gorgeous, and ran like new. Cut to this morning, when I had a few minor issues (the brake light was staying on, the ignition didn't start up right away, etc.)... I took the car to Merik, who made tiny tweaks that fixed the majority of these nit-picky things. He mentioned one item that may need to be fixed later on, but when I asked if I needed it now, he shrugged and said, "If it starts to bother you, come in. Otherwise, I'd say you're good for now." And then he replaced the license plate light bulb and sent me on my way without asking for a dime. Let me ask you: have you ever been to a mechanic who is NOT out to gouge you? Seriously, Merik is one of a kind. I'm a huge fan... and he may have stoked the fire of my vintage Mercedes obsession simply by taking the mystery out of the repairs. Our 1978 VV Westfalia Bus had been plagued by the dreaded "hiccup" for ages. We'd been to several shops who'd claimed to have fixed it and set off from Portland to Los Angeles thinking it was fixed. It wasn't. 3 days and lots of stress and headaches later we arrive in Thousand Oaks. We went to see Mirek and he immediately got to work. He spent the better part of the afternoon troubleshooting with me and ended up staying AFTER CLOSING ON A FRIDAY to help me solve the problem. It ended up being a missing ground wire to the engine, which was an easy fix, and along the way he also helped me to replace several other items which had been repaired inappropriately by our other mechanic. I made an appointment on Thursday to have the oil changed in my boss' car the following morning (Friday). I gave the rep the make and model, etc. and he tells me that it will take an hour and a half. A little long, but okay, no biggie. The next morning I show up at the appointed time, and no one has ANY clue. The guy behind the counter stares at me with a vacant expression, and comes up with some bull---t excuse about how they "don't have any filters." And that "they're just too busy."
