What an amazing deli and market . We have been coming here for years and so enjoy every visit. We just found some wonderful cookies with apricot that we had tried at Christmas . The gal that helped us was very sweet and informative. Love all the employees! My husband is hooked on rum balls, German chocolate cake and the strudel. We also love the Fleischsalat, butterkase cheese on their yummy rye! I can go on and on about most of the deli items. So impressed with the market and all their wonderful culinary items from many countries. Well done ! Oh and just found out that next year they are going to have a big German Christmas market ! My husband ordered a princess cake for my birthday cake, a 35 year tradition in my home. This was our first time ordering the cake from here, never again!! I cut the cake for my guests, and there in the cake and frosting was a VERY long hair. I was not only disgusted, but so embarrassed. My guests all saw thos, and of course nobody wanted to touch the cake after that. Why not make hair nets required by all establishments that prepare food!?? Nobody wants to eat someone's hair. We will never go back. They didn't care, my husband had to DEMAND a full refund as they only wanted to give a store credit. I drove from South County to check out Old World since it's been over 40 years since I was last there. It certainly has changed since then! This market, deli and bakery is really nice! I got some assorted pastries to take home, and the German food selection is wonderful! The selection of German beers is amazing! I'll have to come back to try out the store deli and do more shopping! The store itself is super cute! Its a little market where you can buy assorted snacks, deli goods and pastries! Theres a restaurant where you can sit down and eat delicious food, which if you stick ariund for the dessert comes from the german deli! They offer a cake flight, which is already picked out for you (flavor wise). They offer small size or normal. Which if you get the normal flight you might as well pick your own flavors! (Same price!) I came for the Apple strudel, which seems to be one of the most popular things at the bakery case. Apparently, they serve both an Austrian and a German variety, one with a flaky dough and the other with a more of a pie crust dough but I forget which one is which. It is so popular that it sells out almost immediately upon being brought out, especially during October - Oktoberfest. The strudels are quite large and meant for sharing and filled with a very spiced apple mixture. While I was there, I also picked up apple cake, almond horns, beignets and they were kind enough to let me try a few of their signature rum balls. There is such a variety sold there, not to mention the deli case, butcher, dry goods but I didn't quite love my baked goods. All in all, glad I was able to try all the sweets. read more

I ordered some yummy German meats, breads, chips, and candies (of course!), and two Mama Rita's famous stuffed cabbage rolls yesterday using the website. Since we're under Safer At Home orders due to Covid19, I didn't want to go into the store. They offer curbside pickup with prepayment over the phone, which is great. I called a couple of times to get some clarification, had all my questions answered, and even added to my order. One of the employees called me later in the day to get my payment information. Since I live in Orange, I decided to drive down and pick up my things (no traffic, nice time for a drive). The entire process went smooth as silk. When I got to the store, I parked and called. One of the guys came out and put all my things in the back of my car. We kept our required social distance! I enjoyed one of the cabbage rolls for dinner last night. It was the first time I tried Mama Rita's and it certainly won't be the last.... it was the very best, gigantic, cabbage roll I've had. Delicious!! read more

My oldest daughter who is in first grade had to finish a project on ancestry. We chose to do the project on Germany. 3/4 of my husbands family immigrated here from Germany. I went to Old World German Bakery and Deli for help. They gave me wonderful ideas and were VERY HELPFUL. We ended up ordering a full apple strudel to share with her class. Great store , great people , they sell 3 months passed by expired food with 50% discount and don't mention it anywhere . My kid got some bread and chocolate and I found out only afterwards. I hope we won't get sick because of this. Overall I like this store , it's super pricy here comparing to other European stores tho. I especially love the Italian market in Anaheim and they sell great home made sausages in 3-5 times cheaper than here. I'm German and missing Alpine Village so I gave this shop a try. First time some months ago I was shocked that the cake I bought was actually $45 for a Black Forest not even that big. But today it really floored me, when I checked the receipt once I was home. Amongst other few things I wanted to buy "Mettwurst" which unfortunately they don't carry (Alpine had it for under $5 per unit) so I decided to take teawurst instead for a little bit of German flavor I thought. The price for it wasn't marked but I thought can't be more than $5. Arrived at home and saw they charged !!!! $9.50 !!!! for this small thing and you would expect it at least to be imported but NO it's from Glendale, CA, tastes nothing like any German Teewurst I've ever had due to the American version not being smoked like in Germany but rather put smoke flavor in it and the ingredients were quite different too. Also for 6 bread rolls they took $8 which was crazy too! That you take some more money for imported stuff I get but this was nothing ever imported or even tasting German. Avoid the bakery. Their cakes are dry and stale. I've tried to give this place a chance multiple times. I received a princess cake for my birthday recently. There was very thin almost non existent filling between layers of dry cake. Princess cakes are usually phenomenal whenever I've had them from anywhere else. This place does not know how to make them accurately. Also, the woman manager is impolite and unprofessional. The rest of the store is ok. This market has seen better days but is filled with German and other European products. The market also has a cheese and meat counter that includes specialty products including blutwurst. There are a few Germans working here and several patrons but I'm afraid to say the best foods of the German culture may not be found here. The shop has mostly packaged foods. The bakery may be the highlight with the various breads and treats. Parking is at the Old World Village. This used to be a German shopping mall that has many vacant shops and non German villages. I love this market and shop here often. It's overpriced, it's tiny, the service is hit or miss but from the moment the brass bell rings when you open the front door it just screams charm and transports you into some tiny Village's market(Old World Village to be precise). There's basically three distinct sections to this store. First there's the shelves of German groceries such as sauces, candies, Haribo gummy candies, chocolates, cookies, wine, beer, spirits, noodles, coffee, imported specialty goods, an entire row of pickled products, and some health & beauty products. Next you have the Deli which has Authentic German sausages, deli meats, cheeses, sauerkraut, potato salad, cucumber, salad, smoked pork chops, dried meats hanging off of racks. There will be signs listing oven ready entrees that they get from the back such as rouladen, sauerbraten, and leberkaese. Even potato pancake mix ready to be fried up. There's a fridge with prepackaged packs of a lot of their meats, different herring mixtures, dairy items such as amazing herbed butter, and other stuff. There's also a freezer with different things including sausages from Mattern Meats in Orange. The dried sausages hanging on racks in the back of the deli are really tasty dipped in hot German mustard! Last section is the bakery with some fantastic goods. Fresh baked Bavarian style pretzels are out of this world and get snatched up fast and almost impossible to get on the weekend.... fear not though, just call and they'll hold some for you. We didn't want to venture too far today but wanted something different. We didn't want Vietnamese or dim sum. We had Korean last night so that too was out of the equation. Originally we had wanted to go to Alpine Village in Torrance but neither hubby nor I wanted to drive. I remembered a German deli nearby so after a quick search, located Euro Market Bakery & Deli and proceeded there with empty stomachs. We wandered around the area a little getting an idea of what's around, but ended up here. Lil guy was immediately fixated upon the sausages and kept pointing to the wieners demanding we get some. I ordered him the #1 which included 2 wieners and a roll ($4.50). I also got a side order of potato salad (didn't ask the price). The lovely lady told us we could sit down and wait. After a few minutes, she brought the order out with a tub of mustard. After I assembled the wiener into the roll, lil guy happily chomped down on it while playing on his DS. Hubby and I tried the wiener. I liked this one better than the one at Mattern or Globe, the reason being, it had good flavor PLUS a good snap. I mean don't get me wrong, I still like the ones at Mattern and Globe, but this one was slightly better because it wasn't as salty. I ordered the potato salad for hubby who loves it -- me, not so much. I took a taste and was hooked. This was some of the best potato salad I've ever had. It was true German style potato salad with mustard, bacon, very little mayo and chopped gherkins in it giving a really nice crunch. I ended up eating a lot more than expected. Of course, with the grazing meant we were hungrier than ever and after much deliberation, we ordered the special of the day which was a sandwich with German cold cuts ($5.50). I had no clue what it was but it was damn good. It tasted like a bologna of some sort, but the texture was really good, not like American bologna, which to me tastes worse than disgusting. The accompanying pickle was also very tasty, not overly salty with a hint of sweetness. The sandwich comes with a bowl of soup for about half a buck extra. Today was homemade beef soup and it had beef, carrots, zucchini, noodles, celery and it tasted exactly like what it said -- HOMEMADE. Lil guy ended up eating the entire bowl. When we finished, we went up to the deli counter to buy stuff to bring home. Lil guy wanted more wieners, hubby got some cured Hungarian sausages called gyulai: mild and hot, smoked bratwurst and I got 1/4 pound of the Stuttgarter salami which was what they had out for sampling today. Hubby also got a large piece of the apple streudel ($4.50/ or $2.50 for small slice) everyone raved about on here. Our total for the food we ate PLUS the stuff we picked up at the store: chocolates AND the stuff from the deli came to $35. Seriously a good bargain. So we get home and hubby immediately dug into the apple streudel. I took a bite. Then another. And whaddya know..... I took 2 more bites. This is the kind of dessert I like. It's not sweet and allows the natural flavors of its star to shine through, in this case, apples. It was damn good. This is what European desserts should taste like: not too sweet and very very basic, no nonsense but high in flavor. Thank god we got the large piece cuz I'm gonna have more later. We also tried all the gyulai we bought and there is a huge distinction in taste between the mild and the hot. The hot was full of hot Hungarian paprika flavors while the mild only had a hint of paprika, both had its own redeeming qualities. The best part is, none of the sausages we tried were overly salty which means you can eat them on their own. I'm hooked! As much as I love Mattern for its variety, I love this place for its sheer charm and the quality of its meats. From the lovely lady at the counter to the smiling friendly staff, this place gets more than 5 stars in my book. read more

This is a very cool tiny little German deli, bakery and grocery store. They have everything you can imagine from butter, to coffee to apple cakes and of course streusel (apricot and apple). There is also an abundance of German beers, liquor and delicious Ring Bologna. I love a rich, bold coffee and they carry a great one called Jacobs-Kronung. Very full bodied with a slight bitterness on the finish. This place is kind of a hidden secret tucked away in Huntington Beach. It's been awhile since I have been here, but will definitely have to make it more of a habit to stop in and enjoy all of what the little Euro Deli offers up. read more

They double charged the most expensive item, conveniently, and the Mars chocolate bar was expired 5 months ago, while mentioning on the packaging that it's not meant to be sold individually. This review is for the market here only as I have not visited the deli/bakery area. At this time, the holiday shop is open in the market where there are all kinds of fantastic sweets like cookies, chocolate, stollen, etc., for sale. I could've gone kinda crazy in here, but luckily I had my friend with me who kept me in check. The actual market part of the store carries German goods and other European items. There is a good selection of beer, wine and other alcohol. I especially liked the selection at pickles and condiments that they had including all kinds of great mustards. There is a very large selection of Haribo candies and other chocolates and cookies and sweets from Europe. This market is small but is also stocked with sundries, pastas, canned goods and other food items. The sweet girl that helped me at the check out counter was so nice. She commented on some of my purchases and shared what some of her favorite items in the store were. This is a fun place to check out for all kinds of European food and sundry items. At this time, also, the holiday area is a great for gift giving right now, too. I definitely will be back as I need to check out the Bakery and Deli, also, in the future. read more

If you're like me and half ass directions, this place is NOT in Bella Terra. It's in the Old World Village across the street, so stay to the right if you're getting off the 405 S. It's in a cool little "old world" center. Plenty of parking when I went, around 6pm. It was also very dead, so... It has one table, so I wouldn't advise dining in. They have a few selections of wine, I bought two. I doubt anything is under $3 here, besides little individually wrapped sweets. They mainly have sweets, meats, and beer. It's just that, for me, this is my go-to spot for authentic German anything and everything. When I host a tailgate party or poker game, I can go to Sprouts and get some gourmet chicken, feta, spinach, apple kind of "sausage", or I can get the REAL THING here. Put down your stethoscope and blood thinners and enjoy the authentic cholesterol laden death sticks right here in good ol' Hunting Beach Old World. You can park right next to the door and stroll into this authentic German market and walk away with some of the best European cheeses, cheeses and baked goods you can find in the OC.
