I miss Alpine Village for their deli meat but German Deli is much more than a deli, it has a wide selection of German groceries, has a bakery and a small deli. The beer and wine selection is not as good as Alpine Village sadly, but it's the only place to go now that Alpine Village in Torrance is closed. read more

I live in San Francisco. I am unable to go into our german deli near here due to covid and my health issues. They do not ship. I found GermanDeli online and ordered online. I spoke with one of their managers and she went over my order as well as made suggestions on items that were not in stock. She saved the day. I was ordering german goodies for St. Nicholaus Tag. Their bread is really fresh, artisanal made, and thinly sliced at your request. Black Forest cake is delicious and in generous portions, for me it's two day desert and I weigh the same! Stopped by after dinner at the restaurant to try a couple pastries. Although a sign said they were all $1 since it was near closing time, I noticed I was charged full price when I saw my receipt the next day. Overall, the pastries were good but nothing special. Our favorite was a chocolate covered cake. So I give three stars for being charged extra on mediocre food. The shop overall is nice for with good beers available to take home. read more

Terrible service damn near racist treatment from this place stood in line to get some of the bratwurst sandwiches for about 10 minutes the person in front of me was helped and then the girl behind the counter left didn't even say anything to me and she saw me waiting there. Then another worker that comes and asks some other patrons that just came in if they needed any help still I got not a peep even though it was my turn. Okay, so we like coming here when we have a hankering for some authentic German food. This is the spot to get your German on. Once you walk in to the Euro Market (It's not that big) there is a freezer immediately to your left where they have sausages (Hungarian Hurka- the BEST!!!, German Leberkase, blood sausage, etc.) and cheeses. Past that is the deli where there is a wonderful smell! The display case has lots of different types of sausage, bologna and cheeses that create the best smell! Our kids loved seeing the very large tube of bologna (Leberkase). We usually come here for the Hungarian hard sausage (Kolbasz- pronounced kohl-bahs by my wife, who is Hungarian) and the Hungarian Hurka, which is a sausage that is made with pork meat, spices, and rice. It is the BOMB!!! I could eat a whole link by myself, but that does not mean it's either a good idea or something to be done. After we got the sausages, we walked past the deli where there's another wonderful smell- the BREAD!!! Jumpin' Jehosaphat on a Pogo Stick, it smells just sexy there! They have some really good Rye bread there with which we like making a little treat with our sausage. What we do is cut a piece of bread into a 2 inch square, cut a small piece of sausage, and on top of that, place a small piece of bell pepper and BAM- nirvana! The market has other European foods that we like to eat such as their Kinder chocolates and marzipan. My wife saw one yesterday and I thought she was batting .317 for the year. That sucker was huge! They have condiments such as mild cornichons, peppers, and sauerkraut. They also sell glassware, wines, beers, and toiletries from Europe. I love coming here and will continue to do so!!! read more

Stay away from the GermanDeli.com market at the Old World German Village in Huntington Beach. The store mistreats paying customers and charges more than what shows on the sales tag so check your receipt. I purchased some items including Dalfour jam which had a sales tag price of $6.98. After we left with our purchases, I checked my receipt and noticed they overcharged me $2.00 for the jam at $8.98. I went back explaining the overcharge. The person at the register said she needed to get the manager. I waited for the manager who saw the overcharge and said she needed to get another manager. After waiting some more, the second manager sees that the sales tag shows $6.98, tells an employee to remove the tag and then tells me the next time you come in, you need to pay $8.98. Even though the store made the mistake of overcharging me and I had to wait for 2 managers to process a simple $2.00 refund, now I was being lectured to by the manager. I replied that if you reflect the sales tag price accurately, then I will pay the price shown. She then proceeded to keep talking down to me as if I had made a mistake and done something wrong rather than actually providing me the refund for the overcharge. She left the store saying it's only $2.00 and there are homeless people in this world. Not sure why that is relevant when the store collected $2.00 more than it should have. No reason for the manager to be lecturing and rude when it was the store's mistake. On top of that, I had to go back again because the manager did not actually accomplish the one thing she was supposed to do which is process the refund for the overcharge. I asked to speak with the manager and then the first manager came out and was able to process the refund for the overcharge which makes me wonder why the first manager didn't refund me for the overcharge in the first place? While the staff seemed fine, the lecturing manager is condescending and treats paying customers very poorly. read more

Had a craving for some good German Soul food today like Sauerkraut, Leberkase, leberwurst, Fleischsalat, german salami,Tilsiter stinky Cheese and of course a loaf of Authentic German Rye Bread and went straight to Euro Market Bakery & Deli in Huntington Beach! Took it all home and will feast on it for the next few days! You can also get Pretzels, Apple Strudel,and my favorite Black Forest Cake! This has been my favorite German Delicatessen Market for the past 25 years and i hope for many more years! Love to go there because it makes me feel like home and and at times gives me a chance to practice my somewhat rusty German Language before i forget it all together! The Euro Market is actually part of the old World Restaurant and the old world Village famous for its October fest and the Dachshund Races and is owned by the Bishop Family. Lucky me,tonight i had the pleasure to meet Mr.Bishop (the owner of Old World) as i was browsing through the store and he happily agreed to pose for a picture with me! The market place has a first class selection of German wines and Beers and Chocolates and Christmas Calendars! Overall it is a real fun place to visit! Go for a stroll thru the village and enjoy the German mural images on the European style houses. Sadly for me the German village feel has changed a Lot. Little by little the cute German stores and the German flair of the Village is getting lost due to demographic changes. Just hope that Euro Deli is going to be around for as long as i am! read more

I crazily drove all the way to Huntington Beach to get a special ordered Apple Strudel for an Oktoberfest party my friends were throwing and I have to say that it was worth it. The wow factor of the giant strudel that's about 3-4 ft long was awesome and perfect for the occasion. They have regular sized apple strudel and tons of other authentic German pastries available but I had to order my giant apple strudel ahead of time. I called 2 days ahead and they were able to accommodate me. The service was great. The person taking my order on the phone was so friendly and helpful. My order was ready as promised. The strudel here is famous and I can definitely see why. The apple filling was perfect with big chunks of cinnamon apple and it's sweet but not overly sweet. The best point of the strudel is the crust. It's soft yet flaky and buttery. We paired it with vanilla bean ice cream and everyone gobbled it up. This establishment is a restaurant, bakery, and a store all in one place. It's also located in a German plaza with tons of other German businesses. They have Oktoberfest celebration here so I may have to come back and check it out. read more

This bakery has fresh & authentic German breads, pretzels, rolls & cakes. It's a small bakery and deli that shares the space with the small German shop that sells little nicknacks, German snacks, foods, beers, and other European products. Most of the items they sell here are pre packaged. I wanted to take some apple Strudel home so I stopped by here to order some. I also tried the pig ears and those are good too! They also have meats and cheese for sale. The lady that helped me was so friendly and nice. She was running the whole place herself She told me that I would pay at the register of the convenience store and then noticed no one was there. So she went over to ring me up and I was on my way. Overall, pretty overpriced. $13 for a signature deli sandwich that doesn't include a side other than a pickle, out of the ciabatta bread it was supposed to come on. If you are looking for some great German groceries, meats, bakery items, food etc., you are definitely in the right place. As a native German, I have been visiting this place for years and have experienced the growth and mostly positive changes and I am always happy to find some authentic German things. However, with the growth they lack an updated check register. When you have a basket of items, there is only one check out and a scanner as big as my I-Pad that will scan the prices , but you cannot see what the prices are until at the end when they tell you the total of what you owe. Furthermore, I have had incidents where the listed prices on the item is not what is in the scanner and they only will go by what the scanner shows. In particular with half prices items, most of the time the scanner does not show the reductions . I have had to go back and show the person scanning that is not what the sign indicated was the price. I visited the Deli again yesterday and now noticed that most of the items in the store had no prices on them at all. When I questioned them, they said the person who was in charge of signage is out and they have nobody to do it at this point. He indicated if I wanted to know the prices I had to go to the one check out scanner they had to check prices. So buyer beware when buying there to make sure you know the price and are paying the right amount if there is a price on the item or on a sign. A store such as this with so many grocery type items for purchase, they really should invest in some sophisticated register where people can see the price as they are scanning in your purchases, as in grocery stores. So my review is not for the store itself and their items and food, which is wonderful but buying things there and not knowing what things cost as they definitely are pricey. read more

We've eaten here many times before and the food is good but not great. I don't recommend the sauerbraten, but the sausages are good as are the Bavarian pretzels, spaetzle & cheese appetizer, and the free rye bread (I highly recommend grabbing some at the adjacent bakery). The ambiance is fun with live music (think accordions & alphorn!) on some nights. BUT, we came for Father's Day this year, and OMG were they understaffed. Took FOREVER to get our food and drinks. You'd think after being at this location for as long as they have, they'd have figured out their Father's Day crowd. And that free dessert they promised because of the crazy wait? Never came. It's a restaurant, deli, and bakery in one. What more could you ask for? We've been here for both Octoberfest and date night and both times the food were great. The chili cayenne sausages are my favorite! Don't forget dessert because the german cake and apple strudel are perfection. Coming to Old World is definitely more for a date night or family meal unless of course it's for Octoberfest seeing as though most of the little stores surrounding the restaurant are closed in the evening. Very disappointed in both. The rolls were like crackers (hard & brittle) on the outside - completely unusable for the brats. The pretzels were very disappointing. Hidden away in Huntington Beach is this cute village with a few specialty shops. This one in particular is a bakery/deli / restaurant hybrid! Lol tucked away towards the back is this bakery/ deli. It has so many specialty items such as different types of beers and canned items. It was so fun to shop around and look at everything. We got a Black Forest cake , princess cake and apple strudel. There's also a deli case with wieners and liver,many different types and varieties. I loved finding this place so close to home. I also saw that they host wiener dog races at this place too. Which is adorable lol. I'll definitely come out again for that! read more

I have a love affair with cured German sausages. I shouldn't be eating them really, but I don't do it that often so when I do, I want to make sure that it's of the highest quality as well as in taste. Euro Market Bakery & Deli definitely sets their standards high. The gyulai was some of the best I've ever had. The smoked brats were also extremely flavorful with a nice smoky finish -- not too salty with a lovely chew factor. My wife and I split a sandwich which was very good. I don't ordinarily like mayo on sandwiches but they only put a very light coat on so instead of overpowering, it enhanced the sammie pretty well. Soup was good too, but my son will tell you about that one since I only had a spoonful of it. Apple streudel was the BOMB!! I miss the desserts you get in Europe where they rely on the natural sweetness of the apples to bring out the flavors instead of putting unnecessary amounts of sugar covering up any essences of what the dessert should taste like. We walked into the market from the restaurant side and didn't know what to expect. There was a delicious looking dessert display on the right with empty bread shelves, the small dining area to the left, and the deli counter straight ahead. Checked to make sure that there was still the Apple Strudel and Black Forest Cake, saw there was plenty, and walked over to the deli to order for dinner. The meats and sausage names can get a little overwhelming and we were craning our necks to see the menu posted on the far wall but a worker came on by and gave us an easier menu to look at + answered any of our questions. Took a little bit but we finally decided on - Kassler Rippchen (Smoked Pork Chop).............$7.25 Served with German Potato Salad or Sauerkraut. and Polish Sausage.............$6.50 Served with German Potato Salad or Sauerkraut. We both picked the potato salad side and while the worker was making our food we wandered the market. Nothing too exciting but if you have children to buy candy for, this place has a lot of unique candystuffs. Didn't take too long to get our food ready and while the presentation of the plates were super simple, the food taste was awesome. My porkchop was hearty tasting despite it's thin and small size and the polish sausage was hot/juicy! Potato salad was really good too and an extra helping of mustard mixed in kicked it up a notch. They both also came with 2 slices of bread that went well with all the strong flavors. Also, it didnt look like there was enough food but after eating up everything, it was just perfect and left room for dessert! We got the Apple Strudel ($2) which they were happy to warm up for us, and the Black Forest Cake ($2.75) Wow.... Strudel was soooo yummy, light and flaky with lots of apples. The Black Forest cake slice was also very moist and light tasting in flavor too, almost like asian cakes. Love it! I also got some extra to take home too as this place is not really convenient for us to get to. All in all a no-fuss place that serves homecooked/simple but great tasting german fare. One of my favorite places to spend some time before drinking a Spaten in the attached bar. Located in Old World Village--a ghost town mix of Hitchcock and Disney--this market is a must for any culinary adventurer with a curiosity for the German Vaterland. I'm not German and I don't speak German, but every time I visit I just have to purchase some new product one can't buy at a regular market here (e.g. Verpoorten egg liquor, curry ketchup, Feigling fig vodka, mustard pickles, etc.). It is also a bakery and deli--the deli is great but as of this writing I have not tried anything at the bakery. And their beer and liquor collection is eclectic and tantalizing as well.
