Avoid this place!!! it I used to go here as a kid. I always had a blast and it was definately a very cool experience growing up. As an adult though, I have returned and am very disappointed every time I've gone back to this place. The website advertises fun for the whole family with lots of activities to do. I even showed my husband the virtual tour where they take around the whole facility to show you all the cool things they have to offer. We were really excited to go there since the website advertised tons of activities and friendly staff. When we arrived the staff was less than helpful with what spot we could park our rv in. There was much confusion on what spots where "reserved" or not and we had to loop around about 3 times to find a spot that they thought for sure was available... which is not very easy on there grounds. the road that goes around the campground is very narrow and is made like its meant for a small car... not an RV. and the this campground is literally a giant steep circle, so the only way to turn around is to drive around the whole steep thing.. go back up the hill then back down... very irritating. After we arrived at our camp spot they told us we would have to check in during the morning to see if the spot is taken or not, and we might have to move.. this was pretty upsetting... why don't they know what spots are available or not?!?!?!?! The site we were at smelled absolutely awful... like raw sewage. we found that they hung some sort of liquid fly trap at the site and i think it had raw meat in it. it was so pungent that we couldn't sit outside end enjoy the fresh air... because it smelled like decaying, rotten garbage. In the morning we checked in. They scolded us about our dog. they said dogs have to be on a leash at all times.... which my dog was at the time. they said they were dog friendly... but seemed upset that i had a dog in the first place. by the way.. they advertise about how they love dogs and there very dog friendly. We decided to check out all the cool activities around the area. we stopped a the little fishing pond first. they say its fully stocked with fish so you can catch and release. there were barely any fish in the pond... which was more like a swamp. we left after many disappointing attempts to catch or even find a fish in that water. So we went on to the pool area so the kids could have a nice cool swim. the grounds at the pool are pretty much the nicest part of this whole rv park. the gras is green and plush and there are plenty of seats around the pool area. there is a snack bar... that seems to never be open. i have been to this rv place 3 times this year and every time we went to the pool the snack bar is never opened. they also have music playing... the same few country songs looped over and over again... kinda makes you crazy after an hour. We went to there ghost town to check out what was happening around that area. They advertised fun for the whole family with lots of activities... an arcade, a cool shop, and a fun snack bar with ice cream and a bar as well. they were having an ice cream social, so we took the kids.. thought it would be fun. The ghost down is definitely a ghost town. everything is closed and shut down. the arcade is open.. but pretty much everything is broken or not in a working condition. they have a candy arcade game.. but it has no candy in it. this place is highly neglected. I think its due to the fact that its mostly retirees that stay there now, and not many kids. We soon went to the ice cream social, we were greeted by a nice elderly man who took our order right at the door. he had slips of paper to circle the types of ice cream we wanted... he pretty much got it wrong every time though. then it costs $10 for 2 people to get ice cream... this is outrageous!!!! we had to go wait in another line to actually place our order.. which we already placed with the man at the front door. the lady serving got our orders wrong... even though it was written on the paper. this staff obviously needs some glasses or needs to actually listen to people. After a disappointing ice cream social we went back to the campsite. we decided to grill outside, but soon took the meal inside due to the, once again, disgusting pungent odor of rotten sewage, or rotten meat lingering around the campsite. With no activities to really do, we were left with hiking around the area. We much enjoyed when we left the campsite and had a short little hike around the area. I really wouldn't recommend this place to a family. there are not many activities for kids, the pond is not really stocked with fish. the pool is freezing and gets old after an hour. there is no lake nearby to swim in. the ghost town is all closed and the people don't treat as nice if your not a retiree that goes there all the time. read more

COLORADO RIVER ADVENTURES/GHOST MOUNTAIN RANCH SAME CORPORATION AND ETHICS RUNNING THIS PLACE KQ Ranch Julian is a DANGEROUS campground...DO NOT STAY THERE OR CONSIDER PURCHASING URGENT PLEASE READ..... ATTACK DOGS LIVE AT THAT PROPERTY!!!! Our 4 month old puppy was attacked and mauled by a Pit-bull and a Rottweiler in front of my family and 8 year old daughter. It happened the first 15 minutes after check in. It was traumatic for our entire family. The fear of those killing dogs running loose was too much for us, so we had to check out. Our daughter was so terrified and traumatized she refused to leave the motor home in fear they would return. I can still hear the sound of my dog screaming and those dogs mauling our 4 month old German Sheppard. ( the dog we hoped would be protection as she got older) These dogs had obviously tasted blood before, one pulling the front legs and the other pulling the back legs. We will never stay at that campground again... I'm not sure what is really going on at that campground but it's more like something out of a sketchy " Breaking Bad" episode than a family campground. After the attack things got stranger and stranger. The other campers would hide their faces and try not to look at our campsite. They were afraid to help us.. I've never seen a fellow camper act that way. They all knew something we didn't. It was winter so maybe management could fill the campground with family and friends, maybe some business was happening... But it was obvious something other than families camping was going on. It was not random campers as guests. It seemed like the guests all lived there and knew each other. The guests and the staff tried to conceal this owner. It is very possible that these dogs belonged to the Manager himself. (Marty) KQ Ranch Management (Marty)was friends with the dogs owners. He said that he knew them personally but refused to tell us which campsite the owners were in. Marty refused to give us the names of the members that were responsible ( per rule handbook) and even helped them hide until we checked out the next Morning. Marty the Manager (The employees refused to give us his entire name) did nothing but follow our every move in a golf cart. He did nothing to address the safety concern on his property. He was more anxious to get us to leave without calling authorities. It was very bazaar. Something is not right at KQ. Now I understand why other reviews on yelp have called KQ a Cult Ranch We spent thousands of Dollars to buy that camp program that was never legally transferred to us. They took our money. They never transferred the property to us. We lost 7 thousand dollars for our membership.... Our dog spent the night having surgery at the vet, and our Daughter never wanted to go camping there again. Please think about your families safety... If you already own at KQ ranch I'm sorry. There is something fishy going on there, but for your children's sake do not let them out of your site and carry a heavy stick or a bat. Those attack dogs live at KQ!!! Animal Control could not respond because KQ is Private Property and a person was not attacked this time. Corporate headquarters in Arizona did nothing to help... they offered no explanation as to this bazaar behavior and would not give us the name of the dog owner... If they had tried to solve our concerns and took our safety warnings seriously we would not feel like we need to warn people. They only thing we can do to protect people is to post this story on the internet in hopes of saving someone the pain and heart ache that these people have put us through. read more

We became members at GMR in 2013. We took a chance and we are very glad we did! We routinely camp at GMR and have seen the steady improvements that have been made. If you go here on a holiday weekend SURPRISE along with every other campground, hotel and roadway it is going to be PACKED...DUH! A long pot holed road leading away from houses, business and the city through massive trees and past meadows to a campground with DIRT, Really..... Sign Me Up Again!!!! That is what I am looking for. If I wanted a cleared out piece of property, paved surfaces, all the accommodations of home we could of camped in our driveway! I hitched up the trailer to get away from that. Roy the scary sex offender looking guy is a pretty good guy. Pretty funny how people pre-judge. He enforces what needs to be enforced and drives on by with a wave and a smile when all is good.... I guess he could have been nit picking every little thing but really, challenging someone that did not have a tag. I expect that as basic security! My daughter also had late check-in. We went to the booth, read the sign, picked up the two way radio, pushed the talk button on the microphone and a voice answered back in seconds!!! You will never guess who appeared out of nowhere like Batman...... That scary looking guy!!! He checked her in, gave her a tag, answered her questions and she was at her campsite in a few minutes. He didn't even try to attack her or even ask her on a date!!!! If you are looking for a place to camp GMR isn't the best out there. I could not afford that. It is a great place, family friendly with amendments far superior to a state campground at a reasonable price. I am kind of glad a lot of the people who complain here don't become members. It just means less Negative Nancy's that will run into while having fun!!! The reason why I gave it Four Stars rather than Five Stars: 1) The tall slender lady at the booth is really really really not the first person we should have to meet when checking in. The stress of a holiday weekend was definatley not her friend. 2) I have said it before and I will say it again and again and AGAIN....THE HONEY WAGON!!!! Come on Tim & Denise do something so that we all don't have to watch that load of $hit slosh around in that tank.... Put some cheap wood sides on it and a canvass top and make it look like a covered wagon... Put a wrap on it.... Anything so memories of slosh slosh slosh can leave my memories. Summertime and the Livin' is Easy at the Ghost Mountain Ranch in Pollock Pines! Thoroughly enjoyed our 5 days at Ghost Mountain Ranch for the solar eclipse in August. The sites are a good size, the hikes all around are peaceful and lovely, and that POOL!!! It was a welcoming relief from the hot summer in northern California this summer - it's HUGE and has a second women and men restroom complete with free showers, manicured surrounding lawn, a long rope/wooden seat swing to return to childhood, and a snack stand with yummy food. The sound system for our karaoke evening was better than our home town. The "ghost town" is a trip in itself. There's an old-fashioned large saloon with suppers/music on the weekend, and an old fashioned ice cream parlor with old fashioned prices. The walk down to the scenic pond is nearby and easy to access and stroll around. What sets the park aprt is the friendly help - always accessible and always willing to accomodate your questions and needs. Will definitely return and lounge at that pool - a recipe for relieving stress in daily life. Oh, and the surrounding area for it's apple orchards/pies & cider plus athe historical Sutter Mills site are both welcome excursions nearby. Close proximity to south end of Lake Tahoe. Avoid this place like the plague! The staff are all dealing and doing meth the management team Brian and Jennifer are the meanest, mouthest, racist people you will ever come across. They treat members like they are doing them a favor for every interaction. The sales staff lie through their teeth ( those that still have teeth) if you have an issue they suddenly look like deer in the headlights and tell you to contact corporate. At corporate they have Toni, she is the biggest @#$&$ in the world blames you for their lousy bookkeeping. The owner couldn't give one tenth a f#$k about his members. Bathrooms are dangerous, no lifeguard or anyone who would save you or your child from drowning. The entire staff of druggies drive beat up unregistered loud vehicles all night long around the grounds. You would think they were doing security. Bop! Wrong there is no security at all like promised when you sign up. Warning be careful of dealing with the hillbilly with long beard and no sleeves even in winter, he has anger issues and is incredibly stupid. The sheriff's dept is constantly there chasing the hillbillies child , who runs a muck and bothers every member. Don't believe me I dare you to go up and meet these meth heads and see for yourself. I'm reading through some of these reviews and am just so blown away! I have been coming to Ghost Mountian for about five years and the staff is amazing! Sounds like some of you guys need an attitude adjustment. This is not a 5-star luxury hotel it's a campsite in the mountains. Tim, Denise, Roy, Candy and let's not forget our chefs Bob & Barbie (who will be truly missed. I just hope the new chefs can fill their shoes) and the rest of the staff who work VERY hard to make everyone's stay here enjoyable. You are camping for crying out loud you want flat land for better sleeping then get out of the mountains or stay in a hotel. As for members arriving late, get over it maybe they broke down along the way, and some people are still learning how to drive their rigs so can't you all be a little more patient? We have met some of the most enjoyable people here who are friendly, kind, and respectful to one another so happy you all decided not to join because we don't need members like you here. read more

Ghost Mountain Ranch is our favorite CRA property. The staff do a great job of maintaining the property. There have been improvements to the driveway and the electrical system since our last visit. The food and the food prices are terrific and who wouldn't love ice cream cones at $1 each? As full-time RVers, the campsites are the largest I have ever seen. I can park my 40' Rv with slides on both sides, my truck, my trike motorcycle and a cargo trailer and still have room for parking for a guest. CRA unfairly gets critical ratings from non-members who just come to the resort for the freebies. Members I have spoken with are very happy with their memberships, as we have for the past 5 years. Best RV decision we made since becoming full-timers. read more

We have been members for a year now. We have seen alot of improvements. And hope there are more to come. Tim and denise are great. I really like Linda ,but sometimes when corp. over books she can be not so friendly. The food is great and very cheap. I hope they fix the elect issuses. They need to upgrade everything to 50 amp.The new road in is great. ( This guy Chris who gave a bad review, when you come on the busiest weekend of the year and you get there Friday afternoon,your going to get whats left.It was a fantastic Memorial weekend ). This Rv park sucks, no full hook up..no 50 amp, old and dirty. CRA is a dishonest company, they should call it Meth Mountain Ruanch, half the staff are on heavy drugs, pot every where. I would not take young kids. The presentation is a lie. Members will gladly sell you there membership for $1 too $100 just to get out of The Mantanence fees. They lie about coast to coast costing $4800.00 . It is only $199 a year. They want $7000 too $12000.00 for membership.. crazy, you can purchase resales from members for almost nothing.. read more

It was no surprise to us, we have been Colorado River Adventures members for almost 20 years. They have resorts in Pismo Beach, Lake Havasu, on the Colorado River and many more! Have been with CRA for a couple of years now. Overall pretty happy had a bump in the road earlier this year still not real happy with the results! Ghost Mountain is a great location, has had recent electrical work and I was there this spring and saw the pool has been refurbished! Great job glad to see CRA continually working on and improving!
