We were membersabout 6 and a half years ago. The place went bankrupt & closed for about a Year or so. We bought a new trailer & were given a free membership to Thousand Trails, so we thought we would check it out. They have made some improvements but it still isn't as good as it should be. The sites have been sproused up but are still too close together. We went on Columbus Day weekend & walked around, there weren't alot of people here, but we were all pretty much on top of eachother when there were plenty of open slots. The wifi is only existant in the saloon, where before it was by the campsites. They touted an Ocktoberfest type party with beer games & good food. The food was subpar and nothing else that they promised was provided. The only reason why I stayed as ling as I did was to watch the Giants game. The sales pitch was not well presented & after our experience when the company went belly up left a sour taste in our mouths. This property needs ALOT of work, to include the road to the camp for it to be in the same class as the other campgrounds in the CRA properties. As in previous reviews, the "gifts" that you receive are a joke. My husband & I still work & their offer of 20 days for "free" just won't work when the only days you can use it is Sunday thru Thurs. And the gas card really isn't a gas card but alot of hard work that really isn't worth all the trouble. I do give them cudos for the increased security presence & seeing folks working around the property. read more

This is a beautiful and peaceful campground. No one was "scary". The only reason I gave it 4 stars was their hookups. 30 amp only so in this heatwave we could only run 1 AC and no sewer hookups but they do have a pump truck that comes every Monday, Wednesday and Friday. Of course it's dirt. You are in the mountains. read more

My wife and I have enjoyed GMR on several occasions. We have stayed in two of the eight cabins and have certainly utilized the RV spaces for our motor home. The restrooms and showers are always clean, and there is usually some sort of activity during the weekends. If you like hiking, there are multiple trails nearby. I taught my grandson how to fly-fish in the small lake/pond. Camping is what you make of it. You may decide to do nothing but relax and enjoy the scenery, or drive a short distance to see a few historical buildings & locations in nearby Placerville. My suggestion to those who may have experienced a few bad actors is to just let that go. My wife and I camp to relax and forget about the daily grind. We don't let the small stuff interrupt our camping experience. At the end of the day, we can relax pool-side and enjoy the company of like-minded campers. If you're disappointed in the absence of fire pits/rings, let's be reasonable and remember that you're in a forest during a severe drought. I bought a propane fire pit for those late night s'mores. RV spaces come in different sizes. If you don't like your site, ask to be moved. Better yet, get to know your neighbor camper and enjoy some new friends. GMR will always be one of my family favorites. KQ Ranch is a close second! read more

As expected, I got told one thing on the phone and then something else entirely once I was here for my first visit with the sales pitch. I was combining the visit to Ghost Mountain Ranch with a dog show in nearby Placerville. I knew I could be checking out late, depending on how well my dog did at the show. I e mailed and TOLD the reservation people of this potential problem. Even up until 2 days before my arrival, I was told there was no check out time and it would not be a problem. Imagine my surprise when the person at the gate when I came in told me check out was noon on Monday! As I looked into it, at the sales presentation, Wayne told me I could leave a little later, given how many people would be checking out. I checked further to find out how long " a little later" was and was told the person would leave a note. I just now got a knock on my RV door from a security person who told me I had to be out by noon on Monday! Good thing I had already made other arrangements and am leaving this afternoon! The advertising shows horseback riding...NOPE! And, when I asked, they said they were working on it. They DID NOT offer that there IS a Saddle Club just outside the gates that DOES offer horseback riding, even after I said I had planned to do that on my day off from the show! Saw the horses and riders go through the resort this morning! Gun shots my first two days here; barking dog tied outside unattended for over an hour, security's response was he wanted to give it a cookie (nothing like rewarding a misbehavior) and was very mad and rude when I suggested he FIND the owner, given that the owner's vehicle was still on site so was likely at the night's event. He said if I was going to argue with him, he wasn't going to do anything! read more

We took advantage of their 2 nights of free camping - if you listen to a high pressure sales pitch lasting from 45 - 90 minutes. The sales pitch was one of the low points of the stay...you sit in a booth with a salesman, similar to buying a new car. He spent the first 30 minutes trying to make jokes and then convince us to put down thousands of dollars for the membership. Pros: Safe, private campground where the majority of attendees are already members Very nice swimming pool, children's wading pool and small hot tub Forest setting at 4000 ft elevation Child friendly with small playground, small fishing pond, recreation room Electric (30 amp only) and water hookups were high quality - no sewer hookup Cons: Horrible access road - single lane, rough and full of pot holes. Hard to maneuver if in a big RV. No campfires allowed Campsites are VERY close together and dirt only (no ground cover). The powdery dirt gets into everything. No store to get simple supplies, although ice available at the pool. No hiking trails, although there are some within 30 minute drive. Campground is built on a hillside so you are always walking up or down steep roads. Most of the perks they offer as part of the sales pitch require you to jump through several more hoops in order to qualify. We turned them all down because of the silly rules one most follow to qualify. read more

We joined last year and have since enjoyed the facilities at GMR..The staff is friendly and helpful. The place is beautiful in amongst the trees and the spaces are generous and clean. The bathrooms and the pool area and all the other amenities are clean and the food is very good. It really is a fun place for families to gather and enjoy the outdoors in a safe and friendly environment. Our grandkids really enjoyed the craft lady and spending time making mother's day gifts for mom when we stayed there...looking forward to seeing you all again for the 4th of July! read more

We purchased a new RV from LaMesa RV in Phoenix and supposedly we have a complimentary membership with Colorado River Adventures. Ashley keeps calling us and pushing for us to make an appt to pick up our free Tablet and gas card, even though the closest location is over three and a half hours away. She tells me this is a free complimentary membership and not a time share and maintains they aren't selling anything. Today when I told her we aren't going to drive that far, she said they can't mail the free gifts to us and I should stop yelling at her and stop being rude to her. Well, customer service seems to be lacking here and since she claims she will cancel our "free" membership, perhaps she can hook someone else into this crap. Beware! read more

We purchased a RV and a package on this place was given to us that offered 20 nights free use within one year. We made an appointment and drove up to check it out before we brought the RV. Knowing in advance this was just another timeshare deal, we had an idea what to expect but this place was truly a new experience. Our first impression was this place is a fixer upper. I say that because we were never given or offered a tour of the park and that is all we could see from the sales office. Next, we checked in and were introduced the salesman who made it known that he would rather be watching the British Open on TV. Then the hard sell started. He tried explain how giving them $13k and $600/yr for a membership was way better than using that same money and staying many nights at much nicer public parks. He got mad when we told him that if we wanted a timeshare, we would have bought one in Hawaii for the same price. The salesman threw the free crap that was offered as part of the presentation on the table and showed us out the back door. I talked to our RV dealer two days later and told them of our experience. They contacted the regional sales manager for this park and I received a phone call within ten minutes after my talk with the dealer. He was very apologetic and promised me he would look into what happened and would call me back in a few days and try and make it right. That was mid July and I'm still waiting for that call. Bottom line, save yourself the time and gas and skip this one. The only good thing that came out of this experience was stopping at Red Hawk Casino and winning enough to pay for gas and lunch read more

We participated in a tour and membership presentation in Dec. 2019. We had a positive experience, our sales rep was very kind and informative without being pushy which I appreciated. The facilities were well kept, they were redoing the pool, tons of camping spots available. The Saloon was impressive, very cozy and seemed like a great place for all members of the family to hang out. I could see camping here year-round. Ultimately we didn't move forward with a membership but I could see the value in it and would be interested to revisit when my kids get older. If you are going to the sales presentation just for the free tablet with no interest in really evaluating if the membership is right for you, I'd recommend saving your time as the tablet is a $30 value waste of electronics. It's lack of processing power is extremely frustrating as it has issues doing basic tasks like checking email or website navigation without constant lag. But hard to complain when you get it as a free gift. read more

Well I am up here again with family and staying through till Memorial Day weekend and still disappointed there's not many improvements. Roy is no longer working here and the new staff is very friendly and willing to help. However my main issue is Tim and Denise, they used to seem kind and nice and they are (if they like you). If they don't like you, they don't hide it well. I come up here to enjoy the area and lake nearby with family and we were told since the very beginning to let them know of any issues right away so they can be handled. . . You do that and you get on their bad side. Even if it's to tell them that people are speeding and kicking up a lot of dust when you're outside trying to eat a lunch, you tell them and Denise says "well there's nothing really we can do" sad to see the care goes down when you report issues. They may not be able to stop them but they used to talk to the people. But you complain to much 3 or more times (all different issues) (separate visits months apart) and they don't really care what you say anymore. You become the person they don't want to deal with because as Denise has stated "we have a lot to deal with." News flash it's their job to care and assess the complaint is it something we need to fix or is this person being a bit to not picky about something we can't fix? But as an adult and a manager of a business you can't push every complaint to the side and then start treating people different because they complain. One family member that comes up here on occasion will complain, because it is his way of helping let them know issues that are hazards in some cases that should be fixed, some things even I have to explain to him that there is nothing they can do and he didn't need to comment on it. He sometimes doesn't see that. In my opinion when dealing with people like my family member, as a manager of a vet practice myself, you need to assess it and handle it accordingly. Do NOT act like Tim and Denise where they rather just ignore you and act like toddlers. They are adults who still need to listen to the issue and handle it appropriately. However now because one family member points out issues (2-3 every three week trip) the whole family gets treated fairly rude. As my mother and I went to tell them that the sink was backing up and water was coming up and spilling over, Tim and Denise looked at us when we came up and as soon as we said "we wanted to let you know -" they said "Now What?" Very rude and next time anything like that happens I won't tell them and they can deal with a larger mess since they dont care to hear anything. It's a shame people like that run this place, many improvements could be made if they had a vision and drive to improve this place. Last time I was here for a holiday, they closed the ice cream shop and several campers thought that was a bad idea, hopefully they have it open this time, then they can add that as an improvement. When coming to this area by myself, I will not be staying here with the way they treat me, and I don't even complain to them. Only to tell them the sink was backed up. Real shame. Hope corporate finds better management that can make improvements. Been several years (4+) and hardly any change. :( (they added rocks so there isn't as much dirt...and cleared a few hazardous stumps at sites... added a 6-8 person above ground hot tub... fixed some of the town... and fixed a few cabins...) could've done a lot more than that to make this place run smoother and look better. (There wouldn't be many complaints haha) sad to say I'm a member. read more

We love going up there to camp. My husband and I have high pressure jobs and they all know it up there and makes our time up there so laid back and relax. We do not even bring break-fest stuff up there since there cooks are so great. Big for the price. We have had there dinners one and it was really good. We always look forwards to get up there just for the easy life. The management and staff makes this happen for us. This place is like an 1849 Boom Town. No other place like it. Walk from your site to commune with nature, run your puppy: ME, I take my metal detector AND found two silver chunks. Federal lands all around where you can mountain bike, dirt bike or lose weight, because Ghost Mountain has an ice cream parlor, burgers by the pool and breakfast or dinner at reasonable prices. The managers and staff are second to none, friendly, caring and knowledgeable, how do you think I found the silver........... Kids love this place too because of the pool and arcade and wide open spaces, Don't worry tho, if you want quiet like I do, there is that too. Ghost mountain ranch has the greatest staff, they go out of their way to make your visit very pleasant. It is kept very clean, the pool is one of the best I've ever seen anywhere. The critter club offers the children great choices of activity's to do. Their food at both the cafe and snack bar are very good. Miss Kitty's ice cream parlor has great ice cream with great prices. Saturday night karaoke is alot of fun. I would recommend ghost mountain to all my friends as a great place to go. Tim and Denise have done a great job as well as the rest of the staff. read more

Very beautiful views. Lots of jackhammers going at early hours. The noise takes away from the flavor of being away from city noise. Staff in front office extremely rude. First heard her complaining of all of her physical ailments (thought she was a visitor, sitting out front chatting away) and seemed pretty bothered we needed assistance!! Dusty and uneven with only water and 30 amp!! Beautiful location, poor staff service and lots of noise with the 5mph rules not enforced at all!! read more

We always have a great time when we stay at one of the cabins at Ghost Mountain. The place is perfect for kids with lots of things to do in a safe environment. The food at the restaurant is delicious and well-priced. Wish I could spend more time there. And Pollack Pines is a great, historical community. read more

My Wife and I RV camped 2 nites over the New Years weekend and really enjoyed the meals especially New Years Eve dinner. Nice music entertainment after dinner. My kids and grand kids enjoyed Ghost Mountain for the day playing in the arcade going to the ice cream parlor and seeing most of the resort. We are new members and look forward to returning when our kids can stay over. The resort is very clean and the staff is great. read more

Wish lunch was longer on Sunday. . . . Barely have time to digest a big breakfast before lunch is over. I was put into a space that was too small for my rig . . . I was unable to have any outside furniture. . . I would have gladly waited till later in the day after others had left. .. I didn't think of it at the time. But it really should have been offered to me. . . next time I will suggest that. .On one side there was a 3' stump . . it would take less than an hour to grind that stump out and level the site . . . BTW it's site #6 and then it would be easier to fit. . . Love Ghost Mtn and all the people who work there. . . I so totally understand that this is fill in work for them or a second career but when I come I am not working and I need to relax and not worry about getting to lunch on time or even backing into a tight spot. Last year I suggested that the picnic tables needed to be painted . . . they are worse than ever this year. seems the maintenance is a last priority. I get it that you want to add new things but have to replace or repair the old to keep it up to standards. Plastic tables Lifetime 22119 are on sale at Amazon for only $185. and some are $148. . . Lifetime is the best on the market. and it would be a world of difference. Since you changed out the plumbing or electrical or both on the top sites those sites no longer have the great gravel level parking area they used to have . . . would be beneficial to lay down road base or gravel cause the sandy red dusty soil gets everywhere. . . . Ghost Mountain Ranch would get two stars because of all the extra things they do! The Karaoke night, the 70's night, the father's day breakfast. But, you ill probably only see those things once, so don't get too excited. They deserve ZERO stars for the camping areas! So the average is 1-star. They may have 375 acres, but they cram everyone in so tightly, we LITERALLY couldn't put down our awning! We went as part of a "free" trial for 4 nights. We knew we would listen to a sales pitch and were promised some free stuff (more on that in a minute). When I spoke with the sales rep (who calls from Arizona) I was promised that we could stay for up to 2 weeks, That would be fine "No problem." When I hadn't gotten any confirmation of this, two days before we left - I called GMR and was told "No Way we can do that!" Calling back to the AZ rep, I spoke to a supervisor who said that they never do that, despite what I was told. The 'best' he could do was add a 5th night. REady to go, and having canceled our other site, we went. They lost their sale immediately by the campsite we were given. The tightest and most unlevel spot I have ever had my 30' 5th wheel in! Also, although we were told "Full Hookups" there is only water and electric and a honey dipper comes around if you stay long enough. Next came the sales talk. The Rep was nice, courteous and accommodating. The "Freebies" for listening are terrible. We were promised $200 for gas, and android tablet and 20 free nights at GMR. The tablet is not very good. The 20 nights (non-weekends ONLY) we won't use. But, the $200 is a total scam! You aren't given money or gas cards. You are given a sheet of paper explaining the program. You have to mail in the bottom portion to begin the process. Then, you have to by Shell gasoline and you will only get credit for $50 at a time. THEN you can only use a receipt that is 60 days later than the previous receipt. Finally, the whole offer is VOID after 240 days. So, the max you can receive is actually $150! Because if you wait the final 60 days for your next $50 receipt, you will be past the offer expiration period! Shysters! And they want me to give them $10,000 and $600 a year for a 'membership' in their ponzie scheme? I think NOT. The only benefit of our time was that we found a WONDERFUL public campgrounds right near GMR for $33/night. We don't get Karaoke or trivia nights, but for $10k and $600 a year, I can find a karaoke bar. read more

This is nothing but a hard sell time share rip off-Beware. 1st of fthey offered 2 night 3 day stay at Ghost Mountain Ranch, a 7" tablet, a $100 gas card and an additional 20 nights stay if you listened to their spiel. Sounds good right? But there are major strings attached.The tablet is a no-name $35 type tablet that you can get at Big Lots. The $100 gas card is not a gas card but you can get $25 of gas at only a Shell station, 60 days apart for each $25 then send in your receipts for reimbursement-what a joke!! The 20 night stay is only good Mo-Thu (if available). The speil is spend 8, 10 or 12k to buy a membership for this park. Are you kidding me for camping?? As the two other parks in California are in Pismo but there is no camping tent or RV (go figure)-you have to pay to rent a cabin or down near San Deigo in Julian? Where ever that is. They have 3 or 4 other parks near Havasu. Although Ghost Mountain was ok the sites are small, right on top of each other with no fire pits. It did have a kids club and a nice pool. I felt they were pushy after I said no each time they came back with a "better offer" and lowered the price. After I told them no more, I'm done ,they where not nice told me if I ever came back I would have to pay 17k for a membership. I told them not to worry about that I would not be back. read more

This is a wonderful place to camp. Tall trees, cool evenings, caring and dedicated staff as well as great food. Try Miss Kitty's for ice cream or the tasty sandwiches poolside or in the club house. If you like to be active there are things to do. If you just want to relax and enjoy the wildlife that's ok too. read more

I am embarrassed to admit that I am a member of CRA. This is the worst campground of CRA. I am from southern California area and drove two days to come to this park. True waste of my vacation time. It is not a resort. There were no activities the week in July I was here. The pool is nice but dirty. The playground is in same fenced area as pool. Unsafe for small kids. Guests are allowed to run around the pool/ play area yelling and screaming; adults and children alike. The Ghost Town is closed. The sites are narrow and over 95% are back-in only. No sewer service except for four sites (out of the 135+). Yes Honey Wagon service is available on Monday,Wednesday, and Friday for free. But it smells very bad as the wagon drives around the park. The whole park is dusty and dirty with large construction vehicles driving on the internal roadways kicking up clouds of dust. The hiking trails are unmarked and the camp map is not for hiking. The fishing pond is a small unsafe puddle with a fountain in center. The laundry room is small and hot. Small table but no sink. No shaded area to sit as you do your laundry. 4 dryers and 3 working washers. No ventilation except the doorway. No signs on women's bathroom. Only two showers with leaking showerheads in women's side of main bathroom. The other facility is in pool area. It has 3 showers but only two have working showerheads that both leak. The mirror is women's bathroom is so tall that unusable for even a 5'3" woman. No outside shower so dirty dusty people entering the pool. Snack bar is also located in the play/pool area so bees and insects everywhere. Yes the staff is nice enough yet I hope you stay away from this park! read more

We drove up in a car to take a look before bringing RV. Spaces are cramped, roads are very dusty so any traffic stirs up a dirt storm. We have a membership that came free when we bought our RV, but won't be coming here ~ not worth it, even for free. read more

My husband and I joined CRA at Ghost Mountain in 2013. We fell in love with the place immediately and joined! Everything is kept clean including pool, bathrooms and laundry room. Staff are like family and always ready to help if needed! Sunday ice cream is a treat along with karaoke on Saturdays. Dusty, yes, but well worth it to be in the middle of beautiful pines, fresh air and super friendly staff! Our granddaughter even caught her first fish in the fishing pond and has been sold on coming with us as often as possible. The Critter Corner is also her favorite place to hang out and meet other kids and enjoy craft work! Kudos to the awesome lady working there. She has tons of ideas and my granddaughter loved going there! Needless to say, 5 stars to my favorite camping spot and home away from home!!! read more

I have been a member of CRA since 1997 and I can say without hesitation that Ghost Mountain Ranch is my favorite park. It's a magical place, off the beaten path. It is a place to unplug and enjoy nature. I feel a calming peace just listening to the sound of the wind as it moves through the trees, hearing the flapping wings of a low flying crow or watching the wildlife go about their business. It is also great fun! The children have the Critters Club for Arts & Crafts and X-Box games, but they also make new friends and it is a joy to watch them playing outside and not attached to their phone or tv. The pool area is lovely with lush green grass, playground, a snack bar and even a bandstand for Saturday night parties. The Ghost Town offers a clubhouse, video arcade and just opened Miss Kitty's Ice Cream Parlour, and on holiday weekends you can be entertained with old west shootout reenactments, which are great fun for the whole family. There are 363 acres of pristine forest to explore on site, and the surrounding area has so very much to offer. The park is well maintained with clean facilities. The staff is cheerful and will go out of their way to make your stay memorable! read more
