Wow I was really impressed by the food quality and service at Ghostwriter. Every single plate and drink I had was DELICIOUS! It was totally worth the drive~ The Pork Chop was so tender! I loved the smokiness from the wood grill. I can't help to order the fried chicken sandwich whenever I see it. Very nicely done~ The Beef Tenderloin Pasta was the daily special. Both pasta dishes were very yummy~ The pasta was cooked perfectly and the flavor was creamy and rich! The Black Radish Creamery Cheese Curds were the BEST cheese curds I've ever had! That bacon onion jam was unreal! It was a great way to end the dinner with those tasty sweet treats too. They also have a private bar for hosting the event. This place blew me out of my mind!!!! Walking around Johnstown and stumbled across this place. We were told we may not be seated not knowing that reservations were a big help if coming (especially on the weekend). We were lucky to have been found a table and so glad that we stayed. The food was amazing. Farm to table, seasonal menu all made in house. The decoration is a combo modern steampunk vibe that I can't quite place but I really enjoyed it. Poutine was amazing. I'm not a huge fan of mushrooms and I devoured every single one I could with the gravy. Fried could be a little crispier, especially with gravy coming on top, but that's just me. They were not soggy by any means. The veggie burger got two thumbs up from my friend but I was not able to try it. I got the chorizo hash (cause I love me some chorizo) and it did not disappoint. Chorizo was cooked until crispy and mixed with the soft potatoes and runny egg the texture combo was amazing. Flavors were on point and a little hot sauce went a long way. I wish I had a bigger stomach and more friends to share since there were so many other things on the menu I wanted to try. I may be making a trip out this way again to show some family a good time. Didn't make reservations, just walked in and got lucky with two seats at the bar. Some might say a little pricey, but I feel it's on par with any Cameron Mitchell's restaurant and serves top shelf dishes! The lady with dark hair who sat us was also helping behind the bar; she was amazing. Also she checked with us after every dish and we had a lot of food! LOL She made the visit very pleasant. Well that was disappointing. I had been here before and had a great experience. A year later it was incredibly disappointing. Very slow service, long wait to give drink order ( at least 25 minutes) then another 15 to get them. Ordered appetizers with drinks and the food beat the drinks. The appetizers were best part of the meal. Cheese curds and deviled eggs were very good. Our group did order two ordered of deviled eggs but only got one. Salads were ok, not great, little flavors. Entrees were meh. Several not cooked as ordered including mt very small ahi tuna. Still a nice atmosphere, but tonight was not even close to worth the price read more

We had a delicious dinner at Ghostwriter. Service was a tad on the slow side (especially when it came to the cocktails), but server was friendly and the space is gorgeous. Each dish was very strong -- we shared small plates (highly recommended the deviled eggs and fresh cheese curds too) and a burger and dessert, which was plenty filling for two people (the burger was very rich!). While this restaurant is a little off the beaten path, it is certainly worth the journey to get there. Everything we had was absolutely top notch. We ordered a bottle of wine and the queso with chorizo and the Cesar salad to start. They put their own house seasoning on the tortilla chips and it is delicious. For our main course, we split the spicy chicken sandwich and the white bolognese. The waitress was really sweet too, I barely mentioned we were sharing our meals and she had the kitchen split both dishes for us! I am still having dreams about how delicious that pasta was. Wow, what an amazing restaurant. The ambiance is so cozy and warm and the service was excellent. Their cocktails are one of the best things about this place. We got the pear martini and the espresso martini and both were exceptional. The food was delicious also, one of the best meals I've had in awhile. I found out about this place because of Instagram and when I saw the pictures and menu, I immediately knew I wanted to try it out. First, just note that if you want to come on a weekend you will need a reservation. We had to wait a full week from the weekend we wanted to book due to the amount of reservations this place is getting. It's that good! Anyway, we finally came here on a Saturday night around 830pm. This place was popping but we were taken to our table right away and greeted by our server. The ambience here is very modern and clean. Service was super friendly, quick and our server was great! The food was the bomb.com. I had deviled eggs and the smash burger. The deviled eggs are so amazing!! The burger was fabulous too. 10/10 food. We will definitely be back! I've never been to Johnstown so this was a pleasant surprise & is worth the trip from Columbus. It has a very cool vibe & the food was delicious. We got the cheese curds & wedge salad as apps, and both were absolutely worth the hype. For entrees, my fiancé & I both got the filet. His came out over cooked & our server immediately noticed and took it back so he could have one that was prepared correctly. It was his birthday so we got the brownie as a free dessert, which was also amazing. My fiancé doesn't really eat dessert but he definitely ate this one. Love the new fall menu! The duck with the wood grilled squash was amazing. We had fresh made apple crisp with salted caramel gelato to finish - delicious as well. Service was stellar as well. The wait staff is friendly and makes sure your meal is appropriately paced. They used to have a great slide show of amazing pictures on the high definition screens but for some reason they are now playing an old movie (same one as three weeks ago). I've been coming here for 2.5 years and it hurts to have to write this review. Ghostwriter 2.0 is so disappointing. They get one star for continued good service and another star because we still enjoyed their cocktails. But everything else? Their menu is just sides, soup/salad, and grilled cheese sandwiches. Yes, they have a weekly special but if you're not open to it, then your options are very limited. $16 for a grilled BLT and the bacon wasn't even crispy. Not to mention the crinkle cut fries that weren't seasoned and tasted like they were fresh from the freezer. This was a regular spot for us because they had a well rounded menu, extensive cocktail/wine list, and good vibes. This now just feels like an average bar decorated to feel nicer. I honestly don't think we'll be coming back anytime soon. Maybe for a cocktail. But not for a meal. read more

Let me start with a WOW! I was completely blown away. The food the service the atmosphere just wow. 5stars all the way. Now let me tell you I really didn't have high expectations pulling up. GwPH is located in a very small town on the outskirts of Columbus and walking up you could tell "this" restaurant was out of place. Just the awww you got walking up and then coming through the doors just took my breath away! GwPH just wow. The attention to the small details not just that absolutely fabulous chandelier, but even the brass knuckles for the draft pours to the very simple but elegant locks on the bathroom doors. No little detail was left unnoticed. Our entire experience was truly wonderful just taking in the entire place. Now the food. Yes I would say this restaurant is a bit on the high end especially for it's location but the quality is 100% on point and worth every $$$. The cheese in every dish we ordered was fantastic, that goat cheese yum! Everything came out so fresh and the service was absolutely amazing. I really didn't think things would or could get any better..... THEN DESSERT CAME I can not honestly tell you which of our amazing choices I loved more. That flourless tort and biscuit with the perfectly ripen fruit and THE SEA SALT COOKIE. Just absolutely perfection I cannot wait to come back. Overall atmosphere is nice. We sat at the bar and had polite and timely customer service. We started with the wood fire cauliflower and deviled eggs. The sauce the cauliflower comes with takes this dish to another level. Even if you're not an big fan of cauliflower, this is really great! The deviled eggs were also very tasty. I got mine without ham, but they were very flavorful and the relish on top is a great touch. We had the pulled chicken salad, wood fired chicken, and ceased salad with Salmon. All were pretty average. Nothing to brag about and would definitely try something different if I went back. We ended with the S'mores dessert. A Lot of chocolate! The base is chocolate mousse. I think it would have been better if it were a cake or brownie mix of mousse. It was good but wouldn't get it again. Price point was on the high end and unfortunately the food and service did not rise to meet the challenge of $20 plus entrees. We took 11 people here for a birthday. The service was decent until the food was delivered auction style. Several of us got the wrong food. We also had to ask for refills on water and drinks. The soda we got was most likely from a bar gun bc it was flat. We sat on their porch and we all kept smelling sewage from somewhere. Food was overpriced. Salad with chicken was $24 and consisted of spring mix with sparse sliced strawberries and blueberries. This was possibly the most expensive mediocre salad in the history of salads. Smash Burger was $19. This had American cheese and cooked onions. It was very dry and boring. French fries were also meh. Had to ask for condiments as this was served with about 2oz of ketchup and that is all. Cubano was a $19 hot deli sandwich. Enough said. This was $12 too expensive for what was delivered. Lemon Basil Linguini with shrimp. This was $29 and had three shrimp. The rest of the dish was a mismatch of flavors and textures with three types of mushrooms. Pork chop. $37. This is a single pork chop. Overcooked and overpriced. New York strip was listed at $49. Nobody got it because this is ridiculous for a mediocre cut of meat. Maybe this price for a filet mignon. Bavette Steak: $39. Also prob the most expensive flank steak in the business. Nobody got it bc we all knew the quality of meat involved. If the food is expensive then it needs to be perfectly prepared and the service needs to be high end. We found pretentious prices here and nothing else that you would expect for the price poiNeedless to say we will not be back. read more

My wife and I visited Ghostwriter Public House ("GPH") Saturday, January 11 for a 5pm reservation. We were dining early in order to make an 8pm curtain of Jersey Boys at the Palace Theater in Columbus. We arrived very excited for our first visit to GPH based on word of mouth and were immediately pleased with the restaurant's mixed ambience of ornate and rustic. We were seated in the dining room to the right of the main entrance which was inviting and comfortable. I was taken, throughout dinner, with the framed video monitor above the bar playing eerie (ghostly?) images on a loop. We'd done our preparations before we arrived, so we were pretty sure what to order, but we also enjoyed perusing the menu to ensure we didn't miss anything. We started with cocktails: the night's special Cherry Blossom for my wife and an Old Fashion for me. Both were tasty, but my wife liked hers better, I think. Later, she had a pear cider and I tried the Harvest Moon (or Fall Harvest?), which I liked more than the Old Fashion. To start, we ordered the bread and butter board which comes with roasted olives. We'd never had ROASTED olives and they were excellent. The bread and butters were tasty as well. A great way to start and not too much bread which could sink the rest of the meal. (Although we TOTALLY would have eaten more slices if they were offered.) Next, my wife had the Caesar salad and I had the Devils on Horseback. We thought the roasting of the Romaine was different (she liked it better than I) and the dressing was light and tangy. My small plate was goat cheese stuffed dates wrapped in bacon drizzled with maple syrup. All things normally I like, but by the fourth one, it was too much. One is probably enough, so I suggest ordering to share with others and probably cutting them in half. For our large plates, my wife had the steamed clams and I had my own Caesar with fried chicken. She liked the broth and was unable to finish the entire order despite the smaller clams. I liked the fried chicken more than the Romaine, but did appreciate the unique flavors of the roasted lettuce and dressing. (I ended up "tasting" the dressing the rest of the night.) My wife also ordered the cheese curds which were great - flaky crusts over tasty, gooey cheese. I didn't want to eat any, but I honestly couldn't resist. We were too full for dessert, so we simply finished our tasty cocktails to sweeten our palates after such salty entrees. Our server (apologies, but forgot her name...Megan?) was very nice and the right mix of attentive and unhurried, even after the room started to fill up. (And check out the restrooms (or WC, water closets) while you're there - pretty cool aesthetics.) We were already discussing our next visit by the time the bread board arrived, so I'm sure we'll be going back soon. That short rib really sounds good... read more

The prices are fair and the portions are just right. The kitchen is consistent and timely. Our waiters have been knowledgeable about the menu and the seasonal drink selection. The food tastes fresh and high quality. The inside is absolutely gorgeous with a classy modern feel. Ideal for casual date night or an afternoon brunch.
