We went to Gia Mia to celebrate our 30th wedding anniversary. I let the restaurant know about our anniversary in the comments section of the RESY app used to make the reservation. They didn't do anything. So disappointing. When I asked the two hostesses in the front about it on our way out, they seemed absolutely clueless. As a customer I'm letting the dining community know that if you write comments about your dinner reservations in RESY, don't make the assumption that Gia Mia will do anything. What a lovely restaurant in downtown Wheaton. The menu is vast ranging from pizzas, salads, pasta and soups. Our crew had variations. Highlights were the Salmon salad- huge in portion size and yummy. My other daughter had the balsamic chicken salad, which was incredible. My friend is gluten free and had a GF pizza and salad, which she enjoyed. My husband had a bbq chicken pizza that he devoured. I had a Margherita pizza with no cheese. Next time I will ask for a meat of some kind to be put in it as it was quite bare (understandably). We will be back! read more

We met friends for dinner. We shared a couple of Sammy plates between the four of us. Tuscan Shrimp cooked to perfection, roasted peppers, lemons and chive made a wonderful sauce, the surprising part was the too runny polenta that in a way, not intended(?) thickened the ingredients to create the wonderful sauce. We also shared the Butternut squash gnocchi, interesting texture a crusty outside and al dente. As a gnocchi purist raised on homemade ones made by my grandma and my mom, my opinion is that theirs is more like an Asian dumpling. My husband and I shared the Daily risotto with wild mushrooms, disappointing lacked of consistency and flavor, kind of blah . We also shared the Brussels sprouts, perfectly roasted well balanced flavors of bacon and lemon. I tried my friend's mushroom ravioli over a goat cheese truffle oil sauce, enjoyed the flavors. The ravioli was a bit overcooked. Her husband had Bolognese rigatoni and baby kale salad both presented beautifully and by the empty plates he seemed to have enjoyed it The tiramisu was just right, rich airy yellowish cream, soft, not mushy, balanced sweet and bitterness from coffee and cocoa powder. We tried Gia Mia twice, hoping our first bad experience was a fluke. On our first visit, we had the short rib gnocchi and the rigatoni bolognese. Both pastas were overly salted yet bland. And when I say overly salted-you get a mouthful of salt granules in your mouth. Second visit we tried the vodka pasta and the carbonara pasta. Again, both were extremely over salted but the sauces lacked flavor. Very bland. Unfortunately we've had better pasta at noodles & company. Extremely dissatisfied and disappointing. read more

Gia Mia in Wheaton used to be our main go to. We frequented for many years - servers knew us by name! The past few times we ate there the food and service has been slowly declining - our last visit.... That was enough to call it quits! We went for dinner with the family. The server had an attitude the whole service - she clearly was having one bad night and took it our on our table. We ordered drinks and an appetizer, ordering what was gluten free and vegan. When we went to the menu, the server basically told us there was nothing that could be accommodated for these two allergy and diet. Things that servers and the chef have accommodated for in the past for us, we were told by her this round they could not. I said then have the chef surprise us with something! I didn't even want to argue or feed into the attitude. She said pasta with red sauce ... I could have made that at home - but whatever.... We are out with family and trying not to make a scene so we ordered two. The pasta came to the table and it was not what we ordered, so I asked the server when she returned, and said before we eat this, what is it? I thought we ordered red sauce? She said I put the ticket in saying that so what do you want red sauce?! She was not happy... I said no all I wanted to know was what were about to eat to make sure we didn't get sick, that's all. Did not feel welcomed. The music was terrible and loud - I felt like I was at a high school party! Our old servers we used to see are no longer there. Just seems to have no training going on, no consistency, and in this day and age for a pizza place - get some vegan cheese on a pizza so it's not just cardboard with mushrooms that falls off. Ordering at the restaurant and then walking the neighborhood while you wait for your pizzas works fine. Eating at the restaurant is fine, albeit bumping elbows with the people at the table next to you. However if you order online or call in, they will give you an extraordinarily long time before your food is ready. I can deal with that. However, twice i have arrived early to find my pizzas have been ready and sitting around for 15 minutes! Soggy and unappealing. We tried to salvage by placing in our oven with a pizza stone. Not worth the effort. Why not delay making them until the promised time? Or get the time estimate right? Wont do this again. read more

I had to triple check I had the right restaurant based on some of the reviews but nope - I definitely had a 5 star experience at Gia Mia! We did come on a Sunday night at 7:30, and we did have a reservation, so maybe that helped. The place was comfortably full and we weren't rushed along at all. We started with a round of cocktails, the favorite being the spiced pear punch. It was warm and cozy and absolutely delicious. We got the ricotta and honey appetizer which was plenty for 4 people to share. For dinner, I got the farro and beet salad which was deliciously adorned with goat cheese and served with an amazing vinaigrette. I also got the prosciutto and arugula pizza which was incredible. I chose it for the drizzle of lemon oil, and it didn't disappoint. The lemon perfectly cut the richness of all the other ingredients, and the peppery arugula on top meshed well with those flavors. We were far too stuffed for dessert! Service was quick and attentive, prices were on par for the area, and the atmosphere was cozy and simple. Stopped in here again last night for some dinner. It was restaurant week so they had some specials and half priced bottles of wine. We started with a bottle of their red blend, I can't remember the name, but it was really good. Not too sweet and not too dry. My mom and I decided to both order off the restaurant week special. The special included smaller portions of an appetizer, salad and main dish. We ordered the roasted cauliflower and eggplant parmigiano. The roasted cauliflower is one of our favorites and we get it every time we stop in, but the eggplant won me over this time. It was cooked perfectly and the marinara sauce complimented it well. We then ordered the little gem and kale salad. The little gem comes with lettuce, bacon, onion, tomato and Gorgonzola cheese. It was really good! My mom had the kale salad, something she orders almost every time and enjoys. We then got the pesto shrimp pasta and the chicken Milanese. Both of these dishes were delicious and full of flavor. Despite being full from the previous dishes, I almost finished all of my pasta dish. Overall the prices, services and food are all exceptional. The only reason I didn't give it five stars is because of how loud and cold the restaurant can be. I will definitely be back though! read more

My family and I ordered this for delivery through Grubhub for the first time and loved it! My sis and I both got the Paccheri Vodka. It's a rich dish as most are that have vodka sauce, but the prosciutto adds a great salty addition to the richer flavors. I really loved how thick the noodles were. My mom had the chicken parm and it was really big! It was easily enough for two! She had half and I had the other half for lunch the next day. It was even great reheated! It has Mariana and pesto on it which was a delicious combo. My favorite part of the whole meal was probably the one appetizer though! We got both calamari and zucchini fries. Both were delicious but the zucchini fries really blew me away! I couldn't get enough of them and neither could my family! They were gone almost immediately because we devoured them. They made a set menu for my guests to stick to my budget, worked behind the scenes quietly to make everything work well, and they also had fantastic food! I've been here nearly a dozen times. It's my favorite restaurant in Wheaton. You can close your eyes and point to something on the menu and it's going to be good. Ambiance is great, service is always good, and the drinks are good. It's on the smaller side so definitely recommend making a reservation ahead of time--especially during the winter months when the outdoor seating isn't open and on weekends when it's very busy. We were seated in front of the bar and it felt like we were at a college bar with all of the constant beer bottle glass being thrown in the bin the entire evening I ordered the vodka pasta and the chicken was so salty it ruined the entire dish.
