Giacomo's was THE place to get pizza growing up in Spackenkill. Everyone would go here with their families, their friends, order in from here, etc. The Spackenkill soccer team used to even have dinners here the day before big games. Giacomo's is definitely known for its pizza, but they have a bunch of other options from appetizers like fries or mozzarella sticks, to pasta dishes, to salads, they have almost everything. The huge problem with Giacomo's is the inconsistency. In the early 2000's, this place was the pinnacle of pizza. Everyone agreed that this was the best in town. However, over the years, their quality/service began to slip (especially delivery) and their pizzas were hit-or-miss and you could sometimes be waiting nearly 2 hours for a pizza delivery. Sometimes, you get the best pizza of your life and sometimes you get a really mediocre one. It is all a game of chance. It does however, bring back so much nostalgia for me either way. We are moving in to a new home and Giacomo's is an easy place to eat after long days of movers and unpacking. Their food is somewhat inconsistent. My husband had a great pasta dish and my chicken cheesesteak consisted of chicken, 3 tiny pieces of onion, a tiny bit of cheese on a dried out roll. Some thing has drastically changed in the thin crust Sicilian pie like the "grandma" pie. The crust is very thin and lacked any taste and texture. The dipping sauce tasted like an open can of tomato paste poured into a cup. Cooks need to learn how to make a real Italian antipasto salad and an Italian combo ( it was mostly all ham). Came here with my 7 month old daughter. The teenager serving us set the scolding hot pizza down right in front of my daughter who immediately put her hand on it scolding her hand. They then yelled at me for it. You shouldn't employ people that don't understand that when you have an entire table you don't set hot food in reach of an infant. Edit: I returned later that afternoon to try to speak to the owner about how this situation was handled by staff. The women who said to me right after the incident "I have 5 kids, learn to control yours" (who was across the restaurant eating when the incident happened) is in fact the "manager". She claimed she only got up to "help" with the situation but as I left the restaurant I was never even offered ice- only told to control my 7 month old better. The fact was, my daughter was in my lap, she is not large enough or capable enough to reach across a table, so clearly the pizza was set in front of her. The women who did this immediately apologized, but then panicked and walked away. The owner of this restaurant should reconsider who he employs here. While I do think the young girl simply made a error- she should be taught to avoid this happening again. The manager on the other hand should never work in public again. We usually order thin crust sicilian style pizza, as well as the boneless buffalo bites. Since we've been staying home during the pandemic, we ordered through the Slice app. Just tonight, our delivery driver dropped the food @ our door, and called to let us know that it was delivered. Although we didn't specify we wanted contactless delivery, he still was able to call within seconds of leaving the food at our door so it didn't get cold. It didn't take long for it to be ready, and the amount of pepperoni added was quite impressive. It was slightly greasy, but that was ok. The crust was softer than I expected, which has been my experience at other Giacomo's, so I guess it's more of their style; I do prefer it crispier. I'd say this is arguably the best pizza in the Poughkeepsie area. We have been ordering from Emiliano's for a while and our hotel is down the block from this location so we thought we'd try it out. We ordered a pepperoni sausage pie and a buffalo chicken pie. I think the quality of the pizza in general was a lot better than Emiliano's. The buffalo chicken was some of the best I had even compared to some other places on Long Island. The pepperoni sausage was ok, I wish that they were a little less cheap with the toppings and put more on which I think it would've made it a lot better. So when I finally had to leave after 5 weeks, I drove back to MD with 4 half-cooked rolls (Than you Giuseppe!), 2 pinwheels, and directions on how to cook them up. Best darn pizza and rolls I have ever had! The eggplant roll was pure heaven, as was the Smokin' Stromboli, the meatball, and the sausage rolls. Place order at 5:00 pm today & was told delivery time would be 45 mins. After an hour we called & was told that the driver was out and should be arriving shortly. After an other 20 mins called back to find out the driver was having issues with another delivery. I tried this pizza parlor this past weekend was in the area helping family move into the area and we ordered two MEAT LOVERS pies. This was the worst pizza I have ever eaten.
