Servers are very friendly, and the food is amazing. Huge portions though. It can get loud in the restaurant.

Came here for dinner with my friends the other night. I ordered the penne ronzio (I haven't tried this before and it came with bechamel sauce so) and it tasted okay, I guess I don't really have much to compare it with but it was decent pasta. The portions were huge (I wish they could have an option to get half of the amount). Service was great, staff was nice and gave us bread for the table. She also came to check in on us a bunch of times. The restaurant itself is tiny so it gets loud and crowded. Getting into the lot was a bit tricky though so watch out for that. Would most likely come back and try the other food but maybe not any time soon. read more

Food, service and ambiance is great. Food is authentic. My only complaint is that the servings are too large. When I'm not going home right after my meal to take my doggie bag, I always waste food by leaving it on my plate. But, my wife and I love this cozy restaurant. read more

The parking lot is small. However, when you enter the restaurant you will find in to be a small and cozy place to dine. It was noisy but everyone was enjoying their meals. The service was decent. But it didn't stand out. The food was good. I had the corn beef and the pasta for my side. I don't know if could get a substitute. I didn't ask nor was it offered. The sandwich was good. The garlic cheesebread was delicious. Another member of my party had the shrimp and pasta in garlic sauce. She had the add chicken and more sauce. She said there wasn't enough meat in it. She said that there wasn't any sauce. She ate the shrimp and chicken out of it. She ate very little of the pasta. The pasta was plentiful. I'm guessing that she was expecting a creamy sauce. Consistently delicious! This little gem of a spot is a go to for classic Italian dishes that you expect to find on The Hill. I've been here a handful of times and the service and food is great! I brought my daughters and out of town company here for dinner at 6:00 on a Friday. We had to wait about 10 mins for a table, but no biggie. As soon as we were seated our server took our drink and appetizer order. Here is one of my favorite details about this restaurant: no alcohol, but you can bring your own for a $2 glass charge. So, grab a bottle of your fave vino from home or hit Schnucks on your way. I had the chicken piccata and it was devine. The lemon sauce is light with a little tang. The other entrees are in the pics. Don't get the ravioli. I expect a "useful" when you don't believe me and order them anyway. Don't expect wine with your meal; they have water, pop, and tea. For mains: Shrimp scampi - breaded and fried. A ton of pasta to share. Chicken Oregenato (sp?) - a lot of nice chicken breast. Plenty of veggies and mushrooms in the sauce. Not very flavorful. Side pasta - meh. Check your bill. Two of our items were overcharged on the receipt. Order a large salad to go and eat it with your favorite dish from home or somewhere else. Extra tip - don't use the bathroom. It will spoil your evening to see behind the curtain. [addendum for clarity...] The phrase 'behind the curtain' is a colloquialism that means to give away the elements that usually remain secret. [continuing the addendum to explain something I was trying to leave out of this review...] The servers bring your food from behind a door marked Rest Rooms. I assumed there would be a hallway or separation between the restrooms and kitchen. Yes, there were doors on the two restrooms and the kitchen (swinging, natch), but in the 6' x 6' area behind the Restroom Rooms door was the drop off for the dirty dishes and the ice machine. I didn't need to know that food was passing through that less-than-optimal area before it was served. That should have remained a secret. The restroom I used was clean and a nice poster was framed above the toilet. [last addendum] Additionally, the decor was thoughtful and they did a great job making use of a small space for the restaurant. The start of this review was written while waiting (28 minutes) for the mains. It was sitting at a three and dropped to a two based on that food. read more

I have been to the Crestwood location many times and it has been a great experience. The Town and Country location is somewhat of a nightmare. We stood there waiting for several minutes to be acknowledged to even put our name on a list and everyone ignored us. When my husband went to the counter for the to go orders the woman said she would talk to him in a minute and that never happened. So chaotic. We left and will never visit that location again. read more

I like Rich & Charlie's little place. It feels like a neighborhood joint even though it's on a major street with limited parking; the food is really good. The only downside is they don't serve alcohol. You have to bring your own. Also, if you arrive during prime dining hours you may have a wait if you're a party of four or more people, it's that small. The pasta dishes are all excellent. I've had many different dishes there and my favorites are the Lasagna and Tuta Marri. If you're lucky you can get served by the pleasant and sweet Amber who has great recommendations. Enjoy! read more

This small restaurant brings back memories of growing up in Ballwin. I came in for that reason and to enjoy a lunch size of my favorite, the pomodoro. If you don't already know, the salads are St Louis staples. Get the pizza next door and you will see why we like this gem so much. read more

I really enjoy the cannelloni & baked lasagna here. Very flavorful meat sauce on the cannelloni & a really great, sweet marinara sauce on the baked lasagna. The bread is good - standard Italian bread that is soft & pillowy in the middle with seasame seeds on top. I do not like the salad here. Dressing is way too vinegar tasting for me & the artichokes in the salad are sour. If you do decide to try the salad, only get 1 to split between 2 people. I went here for my dad's birthday on May 7. I was assured the eggplant did not have any animal byproducts in it if you get it without cheese. Come to find out from another waitress AFTER I ate and paid for it that that was incorrect and it was made with eggs. They really should take food allergies more seriously. Ate there on May 4. They were close to closing at 830 pm and were cleaning the grill and floors. All of a sudden my husband and I felt like we were going to faint. We could hardly breathe. We ran outside and could could then breathe. We told the manager and she didn't do anything about it, but we think they use heavy cleaning fluids or ammonia products on the grill to shut down and the place is so small it can cause dizziness and we both felt like we were going to faint. The restaurant needs to review their cleaning procedures atshut down. read more

Rich and Charlie's has hands down the best meat sauce in town! The toasted ravioli was excellent. Meat was moiste and flavorful and you get a whole cup of meat sauce to pour on them. The place is very small but didnt feel cramped. The house salad was pretty good. The small portion is easily enough for 2 people. I couldn't finish it, was too much vinegar for 1 sitting. The cannelloni was pretty good, but not as good as peppe's which I consider the best in STL. Probably a solid 4. Eggplant marinara was different than we expected. Not breaded so when they baked it, it was kind of mushy. Flavors were pretty good though. Side pasta was nothing special. I think it needed some more seasoning. Bread was standard Italian with sesame seeds. Nice and soft but I would prefer it warm. read more

Great little find! When I try a new Italian restaurant I typically go for the spaghetti and meatballs. This is what I consider the baseline and if it is solid I try other items on future visits. Tonight was no exception and make no mistake, there will be future visits! The dining room is small, but not crowded or uncomfortable. The food was excellent, and plentiful. Service was excellent and I couldn't ask for much more from a neighborhood place. As I mentioned, I had the spaghetti and meatballs. The pasta was hot, fresh and perfect. Sauce was flavorful and tasty. The meatballs stole the show! Three large meatballs are served on a mound off spaghetti. They are so good. Incredibly spiced and fork fall apart goodness. Before there was Pasta House there was Rich and Charlie's. Few people know the history between the two pasta standouts in St. Louis. Rich and Charlie's was what started the Pasta House empire. In fact the Pasta House salad was known for years as a Rich and Charlie's salad. So that bit of history now gone over I am going to write my review on Rich and Charlie's. When you sit down you get a basket of fresh Italian bread served with real butter. If you order a meal the Rich and Charlie's salad is included. I added provel cheese and salami to the all star salad. The bowl of salad is huge and I must confess I could not finish my entrée. I ordered the veal parmesan as my main course and it also comes with a choice of white garlic cream sauce or red sauce cavatelli. I chose the garlic cream sauce. I ate a test bite of the cavatelli and then ate less than half of my veal. I have more then enough left over for another full meal. Mrs. K ordered the carbonara. Pasta House has changed their carbonara and lightened the dish. Rich and Charlie's has the old style carbonara loaded with bacon, and garlic cream sauce. This is the real deal. Mrs. K. also had garlic cheese bread which along with 90% of her entrée went home with us. She will get 2 meals out of the left overs. The price for two cokes, garlic cheese bread, salad, veal parmesan and carbonara came to $49.10. The prices reflect what Pasta House used to be. A great value. So if you are looking for what the Pasta House used to be like with the all the big flavors it all can be found at this little place. read more

We arrived just before closing time after a busy day of college tours. The Rich and Charlie's ctew were so gracious and welcoming. Amber was our server and did a terrific job of taking care of us. The Chicken Afredo was excellent, husband loved the pasta with livers and my OBG was tasty and light. Salads were fresh and cold and the cannoli for dessert was yummy. What really made the visit though was Amber. She was chatty, friendly and fun to visit with. A real asset to the Rich and Charlie's team. We'll be back. read more

I haven't eaten at a Rich and Charlie's since I left St. Louis in !979. Recently I picked up an order of carry out for my wife and I. She had cannelloni and I had linguine with red clam sauce. and we split a large salad. She said the cannelloni was really good and the linguine was excellent. Both portions were large enough for dinner and lunch the following day. I deducted one star because the salad was a little soggy. However, that will not stop us from coming back. read more

They were however every customer was greeted at the door and either seated or their order was taken. After I placed my order I waited outside and after a short wait my food was hand delivered to me in the parking lot. They were super busy but still took an extra few minutes to get me my food. My MIL, two kids, and myself wanted Italian food in a Saturday afternoon. We were in the area and decided to try Rich & Charlie's. It's a fairly small dining area, but plenty of tables were open. I had salad and beef stew. The salad was decent, but was soggy as though it had been dressed earlier in the day rather than just before serving. If I came back, I would ask for dressing on the side in hopes of a crisper salad. The beef stew was very good. My daughter enjoyed the fettuccini al carbonara. It was flavorful and very filling. The garlic cheese bread and the lasagna seemed to have quite a bit of provel. Not being an STL native, it's just not my thing. We didn't finish the bread or the lasagna. I would return if someone else requested to dine here, but it isn't my favorite Italian restaurant in the area. read more
