Craving pizza in Monterey? Gianni's Pizza is a must try!! They don't just have pizza-sandwiches, salads, pasta, and calzones can be ordered. Their breadsticks were incredible and only $1.25 each. Marinara sauce is extra but is a large bowl size. Prepare to wait as this place gets busy. We were told about 30 mins for our dine in order but was more like 15-20 min. Service was fast and friendly. The pizza crust is thick as pizza should be. I'd give this place 4 stars just for it being busy and seating to be challenging but that is what makes this experience authentic. Do save room for dessert as they also sell gelato. Unfortunately, I did not save room for gelato but it looked incredible. This is my husband's favorite pizza place outside of Federal Hill in RI. It's kind of a trek from SoCal, so when in we're in the area we have to stop in at least once. This place is huge. It's hard to find an open table on a weekend. Definitely a local's favorite for sports parties and general group gatherings. Service is faster than you'd expect for the amount of take out orders and the vast number of tables. I'm not a pizza aficionado, but I thought it was good. The lasagna is really good. The onion was a bit much in the pizza but it didn't take away too much from it. The place is huge but it was my kind of scenery. Was visiting Monterey with the family and after a beach day we decided we needed some Pizza. So we looked online and found out that this place is a MUST HAVE when in the local area. I called them up and they took my order of 2 medium pizzas. They gave me a 40 minute wait time for pick up, which was understandable and we were still at the beach so we had time to clean up and head over. Once we arrived outside Giannis, my wife really loved the look of the restaurant from the outside and we were planning to take this pizza to-go and go eat it at our hotel or back at the beach. But my wife said "if a table is availble inside and its easy enough we should eat here." But once I got in to pickup/pay it was crazy crazy busy with people. But just as I was about to pay, a corner table opened up and my wife swooped in and took it. I told the cashier to add some drinks and garlic bread to my order and she did and we sat down and enjoyed our food there and it was great because after we were done our pizza was already BOXED up and we didnt need to go ask for boxes. We also got some of their Gelato that they have in house and it was delicious. The lines can get crazy inside so I recommend call ahead and save yourself some time. After being charged a RIDICULOUS amount of money for a mediocre (at best) meal at a Cannery Row restaurant the evening before, we decided to walk a couple blocks up the road from the Aquarium and see if we could find a more reasonably priced place with good food. And we sure did!! Gianni's Pizza is a great family restaurant with a wonderful salad and one of the best pizza's we have EVER had. We had the veggie supreme and it had plenty of mushrooms, black olives, onions, green peppers, artichoke hearts and tomatoes on top. The sauce was on point and the cheese stringy perfection. We loved the crust!!! Sometimes that gets left on the plate. Not this time! Perfect with a cold draft beer. Looking forward to having the pizza again for breakfast. Finding a table was a bit hectic and I was almost to the point of turning around and leaving. The folks working the tables were very fast and kind. They did their share to turn tables over with lightning speed but customers are literally hunting the dining room in search of people leaving so you have to be quick as soon as you arrive or you're going to have issues finding a table. The pizza came out very fast so we didn't have to wait too long. Pizza had tons of cheese and the crust was soft and chewy but the sauce was a little bland. They could've left the pizza in the oven a little longer as the middle was a bit undercooked. The salads were excellent - fresh and delicious. The bread sticks were hot from the oven and delicious. The cheese sticks were okay. The soda fountain offers a bunch of different flavors but the machine ran out of ice. The cashier was not very friendly. I understand the place was a madhouse but it's always like that, especially on weekends. I chocked it up to her being tired of working in a hectic environment but we didn't deserve to be treated that way. We limited our questions - we didn't want to continue conversing with an employee who wasn't on her game. No greeting, no smile, no sense of customer appreciation. For $150 bucks we received 2 Large Pizzas, 6 breadsticks, 6 mozzarella sticks, 6 drinks, 2 salads, and 6 sides of ranch. They charge 50 cents each for ranch.
