3 of my yelp friends had posted stellar reviews for this tiny, carry-out only, suburban pizza joint (*waves to Joe, Peter, and Pat* xD). So when I was hit with an undeniable pizza craving a few days ago, I turned to Gianorio's. I called in and ordered the 12" stuffed cheese ($14.50 for the 9" cheese, $18.50 for 12"). It takes about 50 mins to prepare. When I came in to pick up my order, I was promptly helped with friendly service by the young man at the counter. I remembered that I had to try their carrot cake, so I selected that, along with their banana cream pie. Both were generous portions that could easily feed 2-3 people. The total came to $30. When I physically picked up the pizza, I was impressed by its hefty weight haha. Now onto the pizza. For me, the flavorful sauce & cheese really elevated the pizza into awesome stratus. When I took my first bite, I was transported into my happy place. I may even have closed my eyes and made a few onomatopoeic sounds of appreciation lol. The sauce at first seemed sweet, but no, my tastebuds were tricked; it was more tangy than sweet. Perfect texture to the sauce too, thick and not overly chunky or runny. And of course the cheese was excellent, not bland at all. I was impressed that there weren't greasy pools leaking from the pizza considering the huge amounts of cheese that Gianorio's stuffed uses. Also, I was glad to note that the crust wasn't soggy, one of my pet peeves, though I'm lenient if it's leftover pizza. I noted a slight smokiness at times when biting into the crust, which I enjoyed. And even though I started out ravenous, I couldn't finish one slice, so big kudos! :D Of the two desserts, I loved the carrot cake. It was the richest carrot cake that I've ever tried, especially with that satisfyingly thick layer of luscious cream cheese frosting. I liked how the frosting wasn't overly sweet either. This cake was perfect & moist, and I honestly can't think of how it could be better. The banana cream pie was good, in particular, the buttery thick crust, but I can make better so I'll pass on this next time. EDIT June 2013 - Even after trying pizzas in Italy, I still think Gianorio's has some of the best sauce & cheese I've tasted. After returning to the US, I ordered a small stuffed ($14.50 for 9") and small sausage double dough. The stuffed was spot-on, but the double dough was too much bread for me. I wanted more sauce/toppings. The sausage was okay. I like White Cottage Pizzeria's sausage better. Next time, I plan on trying their thin pizza ;) read more

Sorry V&V, you've been ousted as my favorite. The grandma still works in the kitchen. The sausage is awesome. The sauce is the best in area, and no heartburn afterwards. Greasy, but not overly so. The amazing deliciousness of Gianorios has been pretty well covered by the Yelp community. While I don't have anything to say that hasn't already been said, I do have another 5 stars to chip in. We had the stuffed pizza for the first time last night, and it was so incredibly delicious! Love the sauce, the crust, and the abundance of tasty cheese. I recommend trying the carrot cake, too. As another reviewer mentioned (or maybe multiple other reviewers), I can't believe how many times I've driven past this place without realizing it was there. read more

We had been going to White Cottage in Carol Stream for 15 years. When they moved to Hanover Park the quality quickly went down. We had been told our pizza was burnt and would have to be remade, pepperoni added on top at the last minute, missing one pizza. I made the choice to find a new place. Settled on Gianorios. WHOO HOO!!!!! I FINALLY found the PERFECT pizza place! Unfortunately I had to drive from Aurora for it but it was DEFINITELY worth the 30 minute drive! Soooo much cheese! There are many opinions of what constitutes the perfect crust. I have my thoughts on the subject but the standout ingredient in this restaurant is the very flavorful sauce. I have tasted Crozet Pizza in VirginIa which Fodor's rates "Best in the USA" and National Geographic called "Best in the World". They are known for their sauce. This sauce Is better. No contest. My previous favorite pizza place is under new management, and I'm just as impressed as I used to be. Decided to try this place based upon the yelp reviews, although it is about a few extra minutes more to travel to than where I would normally limit my drive for take-out, it appears to be worth it. I will be coming back, definitely. Ordered a jumbo double dough (sausage/pepperoni/spinach/jalapeno) at 5:40pm on a Friday; I was happy that they properly set expectations that it would not be ready for pickup until 6:45pm. I arrived promptly at that time and was in and out with my pie. We were impressed; sauce was really good - crust was fantastic - stuck out as a highlight. Will be ordering this from them again regularly, as well looking forward to trying the regular, thin, and deep dish versions. read more

It warms my heart to pick up a pizza here and see Grandma in the kitchen making pizzas with the teenagers! This is my favorite pizza in all of Chicagoland. The sauce, crust and topping are all excellent. Their regular crust is always abundant with toppings and cheese, so much so I think the box weights between 2 and 3 pounds and I can only scarve down 1-2 square slices. Deep dish seems to be everyone's favorite but I stick with their regular crust. Make sure to pick up one their awesome, homemade desserts. I really like the banana thing and their carrot cake. The house salad with dried cranberries, blue cheese and toasted pecans is my daughter's favorite. No delivery but they do accept credit cards now. They are open at 4:30 Wed - Sun so you are out of luck for lunch or on Monday or Tuesday. Sad face. Awesome little place right next to another awesome little place in little Winfield...County Farm Bagels. Both places are wonderful independent restaurants and deserving of their five stars. read more

My wife and I were in the area for a short trip Saturday/Sunday and wanted pizza. We have tried quite a few other pizza places and wanted to try something new. We searched places around our hotel and, out of the nearby places, this place stood out on Yelp and other travel/review sites. I'm back in Springfield now, am happily eating the leftovers, and figured I'd better tell everyone else how good it is. The pizza: we had the stuffed pizza with sausage + mushroom. The sauce is very well seasoned, the cheese is amazing, and we really liked the bread-like crust. It was a good change from dense crusts or cornmeal-based crusts. The salad: it was really good. Romaine lettuce, eggs, carrots, radishes, and red peppers went well together. Everything was crisp and fresh. Home run here! The dessert: As much as we liked the pizza, we were equally pleased with dessert. Banana cream pie for me and carrot cake for my wife. Wowsers - they were fantastic! The banana cream pie was very flavorful from top (whipped cream + slivered almonds) to the bottom (crust, which was really good). The carrot cake was exceptional. The icing still kept a little tang from the cream cheese - something a lot of folks don't get right. The staff: being carry-out only, there were no tables or wait staff. We had a really good chat with the two employees while we waited for the pizza to be done. They were super-friendly and genuinely happy. The kitchen: I normally try to get a glance of the establishment's kitchen to get an idea of cleanliness. The only thing I saw on the floors and counter tops was....some flour. You can't help but get flour everywhere in a pizza place, but the floors, make tables, counters, etc... were all very clean!!! We will definitely come back the next time we are in the area. Dear Gionarios, I grew up on Giordanos stuffed spinach pizza ...we had one down the street. Since then I've dabbled with Nancy's and Jakes stuffed spinach. I am sure there was an unremarkable UNOs, Ginos and Malnati's in there somewhere. Really, none of them hold a candle to the stuffed spinach I got last night ...at Gianorios. Chicagoans say that they hate stuffed pizza, but bring out-of-towners out to experience the treat. Huh? Yeah thin crust, flatbread and artisan pizzas are awesome, but nothing can take the place of a stuffed spinach pizza ...it's the real "pizza pie" Troubling thing, is that I have driven past this place 2,00 times over the last 15 years, and never gave it a second thought. Unfortunately, the whole mall has always been run-down looking, hidden behind other stores and has poor signage. I even did a dry run an hour before pick up, because I was not sure where this place was. How was I to know the best stuffed pizza ever resides here?? I digress ... I typically do not write a review after only one visit, but here it is: Ordered 12" stuffed spinach ...and sorry, I got sausage on it too: The spinach stood out, and had great flavor The sausage had that tasty pop of flavor, that you want The sauce was amazing, truly the benchmark from which all other sauces should be measured The crust? OK, I haven't had Gianorio's pizza in...over a decade? I still remember how good it was. I actually worked here when I was in high school - was the doughboy around 1997 - 1998, so if you ate at this place back then, I probably rolled out your pizza! This place is the real deal. Everything about it is good, starting with the actual pizza, and including the owners (does the same family still own / run it?). Absolutely. Incredible. Freaking. Pizza. Tonight was my first time trying Gianorio's Pizza with the fam. We usually head to Rosati's, Nancy's, or Lou's. I am definitely a pizza connoisseur. I've had pizza from everywhere...the East Coast, NY, hole in the wall places in Chicago, Uno's, Nancy's, Jakes, Giordano's, everywhere. I read the outstanding reviews about this place and we decided to give it a shot. Let me preface this by saying, it takes a lot for me to give a place five stars. I am a pretty harsh critic, particularly when it comes to sizing up the quality of a pie. I'm a pizza skeptic. So many things go into my consideration of a good pizza. Crust, sauce, cheese, toppings. Not to mention service and freshness. Gianorio's Pizza excelled in all these areas. We got a regular (thin crust) pizza with black olives, onions, and green peppers. The crust was a tad thicker than most thin crusts, but absolutely wonderful with just the right density and crunch, baked perfectly. The sauce was savory and tasty, with herbs and spices. The cheese was also sprinkled with herbs and there was plenty of it, cheese, that is. The toppings were plentiful, no scarcity, and the pizza was cooked to perfection and was hot and fresh. The service was also great, even though they were super busy. This is one thing I will say some other places in the area lack. They were prompt, efficient, and friendly. No mistakes and the pizza was ready right when they said it would be. We will definitely be coming here for our weekend pizza ritual from now on. After eating a lot of quesadillas and baked french fries while at CDH (trust me...it's one of the only good food items there), we had to get some outside food. And no matter how much you're hurting, pizza will always make you feel better. Especially when you're starving, which having a baby apparently makes you. Gianorios makes an excellent pizza. It has perfect sausage, great sauce, tons of cheese, and a chewy crust. I like my pizza crust REALLY thin so that was my only complaint. If you can even consider that a complaint, really. Either way, this pizza was a welcome addition to our hospital room. I just wish it was deliverable...though my man was probably thrilled to leave the hospital and be a part of society for the amount of time it took to pick it up. read more

All of the pizza here is made to perfection! Gianorio's Pizza is highly recommended! This place never disappoints! The pizza is phenomenal! The crust is very thin, the sauce is just perfect, the bread has a really great texture, and the toppings are amazingly overloaded! They have different flavors and styles, but my favorite is their Pepperoni and their Italian sausage. The pizza here is quality and the best I have ever had! Their employees are decent, polite, and very accommodating. All of them work so fast and serve the orders so quickly. Well-trained and amazing staff. Such amazing customer service! The best pizza place here in Wheaton! Very convenient and accessible location. Though this place is always busy they can still manage to assist and treat their customers so well. Not a bad pizza place in the burbs. I've had the thin crust and it was good. I wouldn't go out if my way for it though. I personally thought the sauce is too concentrated meaning it kind of tastes like unseasoned tomato paste, very acidic. To each their own. On a positive note it tastes "clean", not greasy or burnt. The reason I gave a 3 star review is because I had gotten the stuffed pizza. It doesn't seem like any effort at all was put into it. Yes, lots of food for the price no doubt but the ratio was off. This is a great family pizza place. Take out only, no dine in and no delivery. They are not open for lunch and they only take cash or checks. They have regular crust pizza, pan pizza, stuffed pizz and GREAT calzones. Everything is fresh and very tasty. They also have a 18 inch jumbo pizza which can be hard to find. THE pizza of the West Suburbs, I've grown up with Giannorio's, and thier cheese is second to none. Toppings that don't skimp or disappoint. In my town there are so many options within 3 miles. Nothing beats Giannorio's. The owners and staff are warm and friendly. The establishment is a quant gem of the suburbs, small but not to be underestimated. Great desserts, cold beverages, and classic square cut pizza that focuses on the cheese and topping. Very no frills crust, but that's part of the experience. They cook mighty close to the edge. We absolutely love this place! The pizza is top notch, and it's always consistent. The staff is very friendly, and our pizza is always hot and delicious! Their stuffed pizza is great. They don't skimp on the toppings, and when they hand you the box, it feels like it weighs 5 pounds. The thin pizza is as equally as good. The sauce is perfect. Tangy and delicious. This pizza is one of the best we have ever had. It's always hot. We love the crust on the double dough. We all fight over the outside pieces! The sauce is very tasty and has a homemade fresh taste to it. They are always generous with the cheese and other toppings. The only reason I did not give 5 stars was because delivery is not available and they do not offer any coupons . The reason I think is because it's just that good. They are always busy! Once you get hooked you won't care that they don't deliver or offer coupons. Kind of like the "Soup Nazi" on Seinfeld. You have the privilege to eat great pizza or get outta here! LOL- only kidding. We just moved to Wheaton from the Southwest Side of Chicago where great Pizza is plentiful. Giordonos is very close to our new home and figured they would be our new spot. The Pizza there is just ok, not as good as the one on Cicero near Midway, not bad but not good either. Giordanos also will have you waiting for a considerable time longer than the estimated time. Then we tried Gino's East, it was like a stale tortilla smothered in greasy cheese and sausage. If you want to over pay for a Jack's Frozen Pizza you'll love Ginos East. Seriously it's crap pizza at its worst, how one of the original Big 4 Chicago Pizza Franchises could be so garbage is an insult to Chicago. Being the Pizza lovers that we are, we refused to settle for Giordanos and decided to keep searching. I hit up Yelp and YouTube and Gianarios was recommended. The Pizza looked like Vito and Nick's /Palermos type of thin crust. So even though its several miles from our house and in a neighboring town, I was able to get there in 11 minutes. I showed up 5 minutes early because I miscalculated the time, the Pizza was ready promptly at the time I was told it would be in spite of it being extremely busy. The Pizza is great, as good as anything from the old neighborhood. The sauce and cheese is very flavorful, not bland like the other 2 mentioned. The toppings were great the crust was perfect and it's good I dont even want to try anywhere else because if it's not as good I'll be pissed I didn't order from Gianarios. If you're in the Wheaton/Winfield area or the Glen Ellyn/Lombard area I strongly suggest this place, I highly doubt you can find a better Pie in the area. read more
