We were excited when they opened but found that this concept is basically a fancy Kroger with Whole Foods prices. A quick comparison between Giant Eagle, Kroger and Wal-mart showed 25% higher prices for same 20 items that I tracked at GE. The meat dept. is a joke, sometimes not having basics like pot roast or ground beef available, and when they do it's crazy expensive. TIP: only buy meat when it's 2 for 1. The "butchers" are not trained butchers, they just unload packages from the central commisary. They also won't take special orders, even if you plan to spend $200 or more. Checkout is dreadful. They are radically understaffed and there are no (I repeat no) self/service lanes open in the morning. Also, the fish counter is not open in the morning either. The pharmacy has botched my prescription 4 times. Not the wrong drug but the wrong pricing. The wine department is often unstaffed and you'll have to hunt for the lazy staffers who are always on break to check out. My guess is that Kroger will blow them away when they develop the former Macy's that they bought 5 doors down. read more

Holy crap, this place blows my mind! Great grocery store with a very complete collection of everyday foods. But what sets it apart are the special things. There is one of the best beer and wine selections that I've seen in Columbus (although too bad they don't have liquor). There's a pizza station, a grilled cheese station, a sweets station, a Mexican station, a sushi station, an amazing deli, an extensive cheese selection, and on and on and on. The store will not disappoint. Even if it's not your closest grocery, it's worth checking out. Take the extra time and head over there. read more

I'm almost certain I got food poisoning from the "food bar". I went after 2p and the selection was less than impressive. I should have taken that as a sign. Oh well. Live and learn I guess. But it's awfully expensive for it to include food born ilnesses. read more

The main positive and negative of this Giant Eagle for me is the size. They have a huge selection of a variety of different things- specialty mushrooms, meats, cheeses, tons of alcohol, prepared foods, and way more...but the layout is confusing, jumbled, and they don't have a great selection of some grocery items. I was very, very impressed by the layout of their alcohol and prepared foods but unfortunately these are two things I never/rarely buy. They had a large variety of meats, cheeses, and produce which I liked, but the prices were much more expensive than Kroger/other stores for the same quality. Overall, if you're looking for something very specific or hard to find (international cuisine or a specific cheese or bread) then this is your place. As a grocery store, however, the odd layout and high prices means I probably won't return often unless looking to grab a meal before/after shopping or looking for high quality/specific items that can't be found other places. read more

I love the Market District side of the store. It is comparable to Whole Foods. If you like Whole Foods, you will love Market District. For me, it is closer in location and more welcoming than Whole Foods. Although the customer service level is right on par. Everyone is helpful and knowledgeable. It takes a few trips to see all that the store has to offer, but I like the fact that I wouldn't have to go anywhere else for any type of grocery or food shopping. read more

Ok so i finally took a trip into the actual store...and if we are being honest (and we are) I went here 3 days in a row for dinner. I get a little crazy when i find things I like and mama like! Specifically the hot bar. So many options that could have baked or fried chicken and bbq ribs for dinner and since i couldn't decide i did a mix and had all 3. It was all good. They had great green beans tons of options on the salad bar and a few diff stations like mini restaurants in the store. It is huge and a little overwhelming but by my 3rd trip i was settled in. I think their single desserts are lacking...i wish they had more interesting cookies/brownies like whole foods but what they had was good. Love this place read more

I absolutely love this grocery store! It has absolutely everything, albeit slightly higher prices to other similar stores. Their hot/cold food bar is restaurant quality. The made-to-order sushi is absolutely incredible! I just had one of the best rolls of my life--with a soy wrapper! Loose-leaf tea, house-made gelato, charcuterie, yummy house-baked bread, nice wine selection, and my favorite brand of chocolate (Chuao)! I love this place for special trips when I have a free day but, don't shop here regularly due to the prices being a little higher, the location, and the crowds. However, I do try to make it out about once a month or so. It's a lovely place with lovely ingredients and all sorts of other fun things to do, see, and buy. read more

Number of visits: 10+ Most recent visit: 6/2013 (I do my weekly shopping here) Others have also well summed up this place as well, but here's my take. This is a very nice place to shop. They have a large selection of just about everything. There's a large produce section, a huge wine selection, nice choice of beer, scattered local products, well stocked meat and seafood counters (with more options than you'll find pretty much anywhere else in Columbus other than the North Market), a specialty cheese area, and some "fast-food style" food and coffee counters. They do wine tastings on Friday, which are quite popular that a lot of people go for. I find the customer service at this location to be much better than an average grocery store. Mostly high school students working, but a place like this is going to care about customer service so they hire enough people. As you can probably image, a store like this can be more expensive than other grocery stores. In my mind it is worth it though, particularly if you're looking for a store which has a better selection of certain products than you'd find elsewhere. However, if all you're looking for the cheapest place to get your necessaries, there's probably better options for you. read more

This is a sometimes store. It's far too unwieldy to do regular grocery shopping in very often--basic items can be very difficult to find. I'm generally in this store for an hour or more every time I go in. As others have said, the layout is really pretty terrible--for example, it's not that easy to get from the wine section to the grocery section with a cart. That said, Market District has a lot of items that regular GEs don't carry. Less common produce, cheeses, the bulk sections, strange meats. For regular items, the selection is no better than an ordinary grocery store, and may be worse. The wine selection is large but not special. I'll probably shop here once a month or whenever I need very specific ingredients. read more

I really have no complaints about this place besides that the parking lot is too small for the crowd usually there at the same time as me, but that can't be helped in the location. So. Market District is a grocery store with a wine and beer selection nearly enough to be its own store, a bakery straight from my dreams, and a ton of dine-in and or takeout options that are actually really good. I've done my weekly shopping here a few times but usually end up with more than my staples because of the incredible variety compared to my neighborhood Giant Eagle. Even the simplest things like tea or ginger ale provide so many options that I have to try several. Call me lazy, but there's just something about grabbing sushi and a drink with a friend after grocery shopping without having to go somewhere else that I find appealing. read more

Love. For those of you who think this place is too big...think again. The service makes up for it. I have repeatedly witnessed staff recognize customers and then ask details about their lives just like a small market. You get fresh food, an organic selection that easily rivals Whole Foods and much more. Sample away. This is not the same as bulk food stores you are used to...there is chef, trained cooking staff and generosity. Try any prepared food (or...don't tell...I sometimes sample a quarter cup (their sample cup) of Swedish Fish and the staff just smile). Have a glass of wine, do some shopping and learn a little bit about food along the way. read more

Just Delightful!!.....Boy if there is one thing that I just LOVE LOVE LOVE.....its is being mistaken for a man!!!....and then having the mentally deficient salesperson just stare at me blankly without offering an apology. WT F-ing H????? Oh and the prepared foods, be they Indian or Thai...(these are the only types I've tried here..) SUCK!!!!! Ohhhh and the crowds...the CROWDS!!!! Yippie, nothing like parking 3 blocks away and carefully maneuvering yourself through the aisles....only to be stuck at the checkout lane for a half hour while your skinny cow ice cream sandwiches slowly melt all over your cart.. I can't recall if the cashiers here are surly or not.....actually they are probably perfectly nice.....since its Upper Arlington...but the Giant Eagle cashier on the whole is about as mean and nasty as they come. read more

Nobody understands when I say how much I like to go to the grocery store for lunch until I take them to this GEMD in UA. I could eat there several times a week with no hesitation. They have healthy items and comfort food selections that will make your mouth water. Heck, there's a wine and beer bar that is open for business at lunch! read more

I went here tonight with my family to check out the 6 at 6 event. The food was tasty. They serve wine with the food but I didn't try any. Afterwards we got dinner from the large food selection and say upstairs. There was a live band. Overall it was a nice experience. Great for large families! read more

I left a prior review that sung the praises of pasta station in their hot food area before, but the pasta station has recently been overhauled. The price has risen the number of options has been restricted. I still enjoy Salad and other hot food items, but a pasta bowl with creamy pesto and shrimp was my favorite. They have added a $2 charge for seafood and they have taken the option for pesto out all together. Very bummed about this and now I do not get pasta anymore. read more

Agree that it's completely understaffed. For these prices it's not great that I wait in long lines and 95% of the time have to bag my own groceries. The people at the checkout are nice, but not enough checkouts are open. Painful. Takes longer to check out than to shop. read more

They have everything! We love all their meats and cheeses. The place is certainly massive, so it's not a quick trip. We love the gas points and it is hard to shop other places knowing you can easily get a free tank a gas once or twice a month! We are very lucky to have this store so close by. read more

Store looks amazing when you first enter, but don't be fooled. While the produce section is fantabulous, the rest of the store confuses me, and most of my friends. It's hard to find anything in the regular grocery aisles (who in their right mind came up with zoning for this store? Fruit snacks with cereal instead of the snack aisle?), the restaurants are pretentious (the only good things to order here are Chicken Cesar Salad and Cheese Pizzas), the bakery is unhelpful, the meat is pricey, and the cheese shop? You might as well try to find a needle in the haystack if you're searching for something specific. When asking employees around the store where I could find things, it was like chasing chickens with their heads chopped off. No one knew where things were, and there were several places where my items could be located. When checking out, the younger folk were careless with my groceries. I was in no rush to checkout, but the cashier helping me (Meral, I think?) was just firing my groceries down the belt, and her bagger was useless. Eggs next to canned goods? Really?! I had to stop by customer service as Meral had rung me up for 2 things instead of the one I wanted and never caught it I guess. There, I was helped by an older man going through some identity crisis it seemed. Long grey hair that looks greasy? No thanks. He was the kind of person that was just condescending from the get-go. Yes, I'm sure I only bought one item. I don't know how this man became a manager, because if he's as rude as he was to me, he's probably ruder to his employees, which makes me sympathize with them. read more

The glaring price differences between the market district and local stores make this experience a one off. Brought some friends in from out of town and decided to show them the offerings from the store. had lunch there and overpaid for poor food. could not find a hot dog or a hamburger on the menu. This store does not provide the amount of support for gluten free consumers as other smaller stores, Giant Eagles and competitiors. Basic Sushi is usually gluten free, this store does not provide gluten free soy sauce. It was suggested I buy my own bottle. Wow that's so helpful. Let me walk around with a 6 oz bottle of soy sauce or drive around with it. Furthermore, Triumph Dining runs a gluten free national survey every year. Udis products sweep through with multiple categories of wins. This store does not appear to have one single Undis product in it. Giant Eagle on High by campus carries a wonderful gluten free bread, not found in "The Market Place." Competitors are doing much better in the gluten free arena. I do appreciate you carrying Maple Grove Gluten Free pancake mix. It is the best in my 20+ years of being gluten free. It cooks up fluffy and soft. read more

We have shopped at various stores in the region and in all cases the stores have been exceptionally clean and neat and the staff at each store is excellent. My wife is from Shanghai, China from a very high class family and circle of friends. She is really impressed how quiet and orderly the stores are and the variety of foods offered. The produce dept. and meat depts. are really good quality products. Thank you for doing business in the Central Oh. area. The fuel perks off-sets some of the price concerns we have, but in general you are more than competitive with similar style stores. It is a pleasure doing our grocery shopping with your company. There's something a little pretentious about this place, and the prices tend to be higher than at other grocery stores, but I still go there all the time. The staff seems to know what they are doing, and the produce looks good. Their wine and beer selection is pretty good. One of the most popular things at this location is their Friday night wine nights. My wife and our friends have been big fans of this event for a couple years. However, recently the value of this event has been increasingly minimal, as the price has escalated from $5 to often $10, while the wines offered have remained the same or even been a little worse. They may have high list prices, but don't taste like the $24 bottles they purport to be. I'm getting frustrated with this progressive decline, and find that we may soon be ending our patronage of this once reliable place. read more

The new Market District pushes up the standard of grocery stores in Columbus. Whole Foods is one of the only other brands that I've seen deliver such a comprehensive grocery experience. In addition to a great selection of standard fare - the market includes a test kitchen, specialty meat and cheese areas, full bakery and a cafe that includes samplings from across the globe. If you have some time to spend, I would suggest taking some time on a weekend and getting to know the place. read more

This place ROCKS! AWESOME stuff they sale and MORE!

This place is amazing. There is a vast array of...uh, pretty much EVERYTHING. There is a bakery, a smoothie bar, a coffee bar, a hot/cold food section, a seafood section, a cheese section, etc., etc. My goodness. I enjoy coming here and just getting lost. Three of the most impressive things about this store are: (1) Cafe seating area upstairs: I consider this upstairs seating area a hidden gem for students, writers, and people who need to work. It is a great space to just crank out some uninterrupted work during the day. There is ample seating here! AND, more importantly, you will not leave this place with "numb bum" (oh you know what I'm talking about!). I'm pretty sure there is free wi-fi also. (2) Bakery: OMG. I LOVE the toasted almond cake sold here. I think my love for this little slice of heaven has crossed the "okay girl, you're officially obsessed" line. I hang my head in shame...all while gleefully licking the frosting off my fingers. All other desserts here are beautifully made. Yum, yum. (3) Occasional culinary star-sightings: There always seems to be some special event going on here. A couple of weeks ago I saw my dream gorge-fest buddy here: Adam Richman. So cool. And lastly, the reason why I am not giving this place 5 stars is because this place does sometimes become an absolute madhouse/nightmare during rush hours. Best selection of liquor in the Columbus area. I collect liquor for display in my basement bar. I have over one hundred on display. Some to drink, most for collection. Limited edition bottles, different countries, different states anything that catches my eye. The manager of this liquor store makes a point of having a large selection , but also things you won't find anyplace else in Columbus. If your a collector like me or somebody looking for that special gift for someone else , this is the place you want to visit ! read more

I am currently drunk as all hell after finishing a 12 pack of ale and needing more alcohol to drown my misery. So I followed my usual steps of smoking a bowl of grade A meth and driving over to my local giant eagle market district to buy more medicine and Pseudoephedrine. To my displeasure I just found out that they changed their hours to close at midnight! And are no longer a 24 hour business. Giant eagle in Arlington has always been a place where I can go and buy more alcohol and ingredients for my meth lab. I am irate. This is unacceptable behavior of a major business corporation. I am now forced to drive drunkenly and high as a kite on serious drugs nightly down into campus to my buy my alcohol and ingredients for my lab. Giant eagle has caused me to be a menace to people everywhere. Watch out if you live in the Columbus area because I'm driving under the influence further then ever to get my supplies thanks to giant eagle. read more

This concept is somewhere between a regular GE & Jungle Jim's near Cincinnati. I went today because with a $5 off coupon, it was worth the extra drive from Grandview. The store is HUGE & there were workers walking throughout the store with maps to help you navigate. Navigation was difficult though due to the sheer amount of people. I'm really hoping it's because it just opened. I'll definitely be back to explore - but perhaps late Friday night will be less crowded. read more
