My coworkers and I came her for lunch this week and we enjoyed it. They have good prices, large portions, and fast service. I ordered the chicken pot pie since I haven't had a pot pie in years and wanted to try something different. My favorite part was the huge flaky crust that they lay on top of the dish. The dish itself was pretty good but just very heavy to eat for lunch because it definitely made me want to take a nap afterwards. My coworkers had the shrimp po boys, patty melt, hamburger, chili tots, and fish and chips and nobody had any complaints. We said we would return here for lunch since we don't work far. read more

Ok.. I'll be subtle.. the bartender was amazing.. loved her!! Now on to the review: zero stars, mate..horrendous food. When you marked as a pub.. look like a pub .. be a pub. The food was almost prison food (I've done a dui over nighter that had better food). The pot pie was milk soup with veggies, 1 chunk of chicken and covered with a top made of puff pastry.. the shepherds pie was a bit like alpo doggie food with boxed mash on top mixed with cheddar. This place is a 4 on the casual bar scale. I totally got what I was looking for in Gibney's and I would be happy to go back. I had a burger, beer, and a whiskey and all tasted just like they were supposed to. There was a good beer selection and a good cocktail selection. The service at the bar was great it was quick, friendly and efficient. Gibney's was very convenient for me staying at the Marquis (and not wanting to experience the sub par service at the Pulse bar) and was only a block or so out the front door. Gibney's reminded me of Irish pubs in NYC. In fact, they even had a picture of the mother of all NYC Irish pubs, McSorely's, hanging right near my bar stool. I think the current 3 1/2 star ranking is about 1/2 a star too low. This is not a gourmet experience, ...but a good experience none the less. Cheers. read more

We had such a great time at Gibney's! The food overall, was 4 stars BUT the experience was so great, I just couldn't resist giving them the extra star. We went to the Atlanta Mart that day and we were exhausted... We needed beer. When I found Gibney's I thought "perfect! I am here in ATL with a friend that I went to Ireland, how can we not check out the Irish pub?!" My directions were totally wacky and didn't lead us to the front door. When we entered a food court area, we were confused but hopeful. As we made our way down a few flights of stairs into an open room with booths, a bar, a pool table, and a good amount of seating, I knew we had come to the right place. We sat at a booth, ordered our beers as well as a few snacks, and took a deep breath of relief. We were happy to be sitting and knowing that food and drinks were on their way. Beer is beer. It is always good, the food on the other hand tasted simple. I mean, it's bar food, what do you expect? We were just happy to have anything. So, we ate our food and drank our drinks and then kept ordering more drinks... We took up the pool table for an hour or so and left with a good buzz, full belly's, and totally relaxed. I am going to rave about the service we got. These guys were SO friendly and helpful and even asked us to come back the next day! If we weren't leaving to head home, we totally would have stopped back by. Major kudos to this service staff! Keep it up! read more

First time there, ordered the Reuben. Worst Reuben I ever had. The meat was a dark gray, it was mostly fat, and it was rubbery, definitely not pastrami. I took all the meat out and laid it on my plate, when the waitress came by and ask us how our meal was I pointed to the meat and said is this pastrami. She looked at me like I was an idiot, said yes, and then walked away. We didn't see her again until she brought the check. She took the plate which was covered with the gray meat. I will say the marble toast, sauerkraut, cheese and dressing were good. Didn't offer anything, didn't apologize, I paid the check and left. I doubt if I'll ever go back. My wife liked her sandwich. By the way I still left a 20% tip, I usually leave more. read more

I went here during DragonCon. I have to mention that because despite 100,000 of my closest friends defending on Atlanta, this place kept it going. Two years, both great experiences. Okay, it is total dive bar. You line up to place your food order and wait for it cafeteria style. Get the sheppards Pie. Totally the bom. It was so good, I had 2 in one night there (full disclosure they were 45 minutes apart). The wait staff bring drinks and they were on it. Hopped over for some food after a hospitality at the Marriot Marquis later at night. Surprisingly there weren't many places open for food late so this was great. Had a number of beers tapped out, which was odd, but the waitress was excellent and food was good. Lots of TV's to watch sports. Even TV's in the booths. Good music that wasn't too loud. Cool bartender that knew the beers and was very engaging with the patrons at the bar. This was my first time at Gibney's, and I went for lunch. I asked a couple of people who had obviously been there before what they thought was the best thing on the menu. I work with a bunch of people who love Irish pubs. No matter where in the world we are, they find one and we pretty much camp out there every night. China? Irish Pub. Brazil? Irish Pub. It drives me NUTS! It's not that I dislike Irish pubs necessarily, it's just that I'd much rather be exploring something local than going to a pub that seems to serve the same old standard drink list in the same old atmosphere. So when my friend suggested that we meet for dinner and said that we'd be going to Gibney's, I cringed...until I saw the beer list. You see, I love to drink porters and stouts and almost no one, outside of a craft beer place, has any. Except for Guinness, which is not my favorite. Gibney's has FIVE stouts, two of them local, and at least 3 other dark options that were all awesome. How do I know that they were all awesome? Because I pretty much drank them all, in one night. In hindsight, drinking the entire beer menu was not one of my better choices but I couldn't help myself. I can't remember the last time I encountered a beer list so awesome. We also ate food, which was solidly good as well. I had the pot pie, it was tasty, and the puff pastry that comes on top is enormous! It's not just the beer that makes this place great, it's the servers too. The two guys that took care of us every night, Ryan and Eric I think, were awesome. They really knew their beers, made great recommendations, and amazingly remembered every beer that each of us had had in order, even when we hadn't been in for a few days. Pretty impressive! Bonus points too for being open during Atlanta's icesplosion part 2. This trip I wasn't trying to avoid going back to the same place over and over, I just might have been the instigator. I can't wait to go back, have some delicious beers and play some Golden Tee (I love Golden Tee!) or shuffle board, or pool. So much fun! So if you can't tell, I loved Gibney's. The only thing I hate about it is that they got me hooked on the Terrapin Moo Hoo that I can't get in Chicago. Curses! read more

What a pleasant surprise to be walking to one destination and end at another. My husband and I are staying in downtown Atlanta. We happened to walk by Gibney's and decided to check it out. We are so glad! Great atmosphere, neighborhood bar feel, great staff! They have a small menu and we ordered the wings only to be told they wouldn't be finished with the smoking process until much later. No biggie, we ordered a burger and salad. Delicious! We were just people-watching around Dragon Con and it happened to be lunchtime (just after the parade concluded, apparently). This was perhaps the poorest time to try to get lunch in the area, but oh well. Most places in Peachtree Center seemed to have lines, except for Gibney's Pub. We ventured down the stairs, found some empty tables, and *then* saw the line. It wasn't too bad, though. We ended up waiting about 15 minutes before eating. Our party got a hot dog, a half BLT, and a chicken salad sandwich. The food was okay (pub grub). The staff was efficient, and one was even in costume. The other diners were mostly convention attendees, so we got to see all manner of people (when else can you see The Dude, The Joker, and an adult Ralphie in a pink bunny suit at lunch?!). The staff did well serving the throng that showed up today, so kudos to them. read more

I was staying the weekend at the Marriott Marquis and Gibney's is right around the corner. Didn't have a chance to eat here, just to enjoy a couple of Guiness pints. A bit "divey", but a classic pub complete with jukebox and pool tables. Bartender was friendly and quick to serve me up. You can light up here, which annoys many and thrills some. I had a chance to smoke a stogie, so you can guess where i stand on the issue. I would definitely stop in again if in the area. Downtown Atlanta could use a few more spots like Gibney's Pub! read more

The front of the pub, a bright cheery red, shouts out their 'pub thing' they have going on - thanks to the finery of Jason K, or I would have never known about this place tucked inside Peachtree Center. I would think this would be a big lunch spot for the surrounding office buildings, but according to the (supernice) staff I chatted with, it's mostly just out of towners and conventioneers that bump on over to Gibney's. But if I were in a new city for a four day convention on the newest dental hygiene tools or the equivalent, hanging out at Gibney's with my newfound fellow dental peeps would be a nice way to end the evening. There's a jukebox, pool tables, and a lot of nice 'nook and cranny' booth spaces to choose from - we got a nice combined two booths, which were perfect for our group of ten. I got a good 'ole classic hamburger, which was decent and covered in onions, which is how I like 'em; and the fries met my 'good fries' standards checklist. The individual TV screens at each booth are a nice touch, too - we got to dish about celebrity gossip instantaneously as it came out on the news. . . . and, oh, yeah, I guess you could use them to watch sports, too. read more

Stopped here for Peach Bowl on a Friday evening before the game. Place was full of LSU fans as Marriott Marquis next door was team hotel. We left before LSU fans took over but drinks were stiff & beer was cold. Beer selection was good. Food selection was typical bar fare but we didn't eat. I ate here mostly because it was close to my hotel while in Atlanta for a trade show. I had no idea I was about to get the BEST grilled cheese sandwich ever. The bread was a 9 grain wheat and slightly over side compared to grocery store bread. Then there were at least three cheeses on there as well as bacon and sliced tomato. The tater tots on the side didn't hurt anything either. Service was great too and it was the waiter that suggested the grilled cheese. I am really glad he did. Its a must try if you are in Downtown Atlanta and its right behind the Hard Rock Cafe so you can't miss it. read more

Went here for drinks around 11 pm on a weeknight. Not crowded at all, and conveniently located near the Hyatt Regency where I stayed. I had the Sweetwater Tropical Lover, and it was fine. Gibney's is a nice pub to go to. It's near the Hilton Atlanta which makes it convenient. The buffalo chicken dip was really good! Drinks and dinner can get kind of pricey. But definitely worth trying to form your own opinion. Service is really good during the early hours, the later you go the slower it gets so just be prepared if you're trying to tie one on. Temperature always seems to be high in there. Which can be aggravating while drinking. read more

Was in Atlanta for a week and wanted to watch the finals of the NCAA basketball. Every place was packed and the places that weren't packed, the music was so loud that you couldn't hear the game. 4 stars simply because this is a bar that allows smoking. There simply isn't that many smoky bars anymore and this is the only place in the ATL downtown area that permits it. If you are from out of town and are staying in the Marriott, Westin or Hyatt then this place is about 5 minutes away from it. read more

Ate here a couple times when in town for a convention recently. If you like spice, try the ghost pepper wings. They were amazing! Prepare to guzzle several glasses of water if you plan on eating all 8 wings by yourself! Delicious! Another visit some friends and I tried a few other appetizers all of which were good. Their whiskey prices are fair, way cheaper than the local hotel bars if your staying in one of those. The atmosphere has a very local feel even though its very near everything downtown. We waited for an hour for our food to arrive, and our server completely disappeared after that. We were unable to find him to even get our ticket and had to go to the front bar and ask for it, and were told our server would have to give it to us. We told them we hadn't seen him in since he'd brought our food 30+ minutes ago and were leaving and suddenly he appeared from the back and gave us our tickets. The food was absolutely bland and the atmosphere just felt like an old dirty basement. I don't get the appeal, and won't be returning. read more

This is a fantastically appointed pub with really good bar food. We were staying at the Marquis and it was a great break and easy walk to trek over to Gibney's. The food people in our groups got looked fantastic. I only tried the buffalo chicken dip and it was killer! The martinis were perfectly filthy and the service was delightful each of the 5 or 6 times we went here. The bar is clean and the decor is well appointed. Plenty of televisions for any/all of the sporting events. There are pool tables and clean restrooms. Great bar! Great time! read more

Great hidden gem in the back of Peachtree Center. Pub food, beer, comfortable seating. The Frito Pie is the standard which all others are judged. Have the Frito pie any way you want, meats/no meats, beans/no beans, and then deck it out with toppings you like. Comfortable place to visit for lunch, dinner, or after hours. read more
