Ashley was our server and went above and beyond to make our dinning experience memorable. She is very outgoing and sweet, and made sure we got everything we ordered.We will definitely be back!! What a great Father's Day Brunch. My Grandkids brought me in as a surprise for Father's Day. It was a very special day for us. They sat us in 20 minutes even though we were 6 and didn't have a reservatiion! They having amazing coffee and I had the belgian waffle and bacon. Very happy with GIGI's, when you sit down they give each person a starter bite of a fantastic waffle. The service was on point and we got there fairly early and it was hopping not too long after. Ambiance is quaint with a neighborhood vibe, that's my jam personally.. It's worth taking the time and checking it out, can't wait to do it again. read more

My new favorite breakfast/brunch spot. Love that it is local, small and they pay an actual wage to staff. Food is fantastic! I have had all the sweet waffles and I think the berry is my favorite. Tough though as the lemon curd/blueberry is also quite good. Egg and scrapple along with greens and potatoes were perfect. read more

Ooooh, I cannot believe there wasn't a line out the door last Sunday. We were actually seated right away at 8:30. So is the trick to get there early? I'd say so. Gigis is so unpretentiously yummy. From the busily ambience, savory servings and friendly service this is my new go to brunch venue. Just anything is delicious on the menu. When seated, They immediately tease you with a small bite of their amazing waffle. It was scrumptiously induced with sugar so save up for this. Wow, I am writing this later in the week and cannot be specific about what we ordered. I just remember the feeling I had while dining at Gigis. So just go and pick anything. Had breakfast this morning at Gigi's. The food was good and the staff very friendly. I do, however, have a concern. Three of us ordered 2 lattes ($6ea) and one Chai Latte ($7). When one of us asked for "a top off" on their latte with regular coffee, the waitress accommodated with no problem. The problem was this individual was charged an additional $5 for that top-off. This seems a ridiculously high amount to charge, considering the fact if one had asked for a top-off on a regular cup of coffee that would have had no additional charge. We will think twice about returning to Gigi's. read more

The waffles at Gigi's are some of the best I have ever had. They have MANY waffle varieties to choose from too. Gigis also has egg/protein dishes, vegan, gluten free, and for drinks drip coffee, lattes, or Mimosas depending on your vibe that day. They are a no tip establishment, building it into their price to ensure fair wages to employees, which I think is amazing. Gigi's is a popular local place, so if you arrive after 9:15-9:30 on a weekend, be prepared to wait for a moment. After 10:00 on a weekend, wait might be a few moments. Cute cafe with some great breakfast options (lunch menu looks good, too, but we've only visited once for breakfast). They gave us two small hot-off-the-iron waffle pieces with powdered sugar to sample right after we sat down. Their waffles are dee-icious! The Hubs opted for their Chicken & Waffles, which was also delicious. I had their Veggie Scramble which was tasty and full of seasonal veggies. The roasted portion of the veggies in the scramble were the best. There were also some pan-sauteed veggies (bell peppers & onions) in the mix and those were quite greasy, sopped up & soft with oil from the pan perhaps (at least they did't appear to be cooked the same as the roasted veggies in the dish). It was still all very tasty, just those peppers & onions needed some improvement. They also don't do tipping at this restaurant and there is a sign on each table explaining this. They pay their employees a higher wage, give them benefits and a 20% gratuity shared by all employees is automatically added to your bill. Fine by me! All the employees were very nice and chipper and the service was prompt and attentive. read more

My husband and I get brunch at Gigi's most weekends. I have Celiac Disease, and their gluten free Chicken and Waffles are fantastic! They have a fair amount of other gluten free items on the menu as well. My husband usually gets one of the hash items; as well as a mini waffle, and the hash is fantastic as well. If you're not gluten free, I highly recommend giving the liege style waffle a try. I had it prior to being diagnosed, and it was the best waffle I've ever eaten, without a doubt. Their coffee drinks are also great, I always get a cappuccino. Another nice thing about Gigi's is that they have three outdoor tables for two. If you're a single or a couple that's still Covid cautious, it's perfect. If you go on the weekend, do be prepared for a wait - but trust me, it's worth it! read more

Found this place randomly and was happy to see a menu full of unique options. I get tired of the Portland biscuits and gravy thing. My ABC (arugula, bacon, chevre) scramble was very tasty. A gluten free brunch lover's dream! GF chicken and waffles, GF biscuits and gravy, and a variety of other delicious GFness! The staff are so so wonderful and it's a cute lil spot. It was busy (11:45 on a Sunday) but we still didn't wait very long. I'm sad it has taken me so long to come here. My only criticism from my whole visit was the awful snooty lady seated next to me. Tucked away in the old Hillsdale strip mall, Gigi's was a random "we need breakfast" choice. Kismet is DELIGHTFUL sometimes! Very friendly staff greeted us directly upon entry, and gave us a sample of the signature waffle to enjoy while perusing the menu. Fast, friendly service meant our order was taken, coffee mugs filled, and in what felt like no time, our food was served. We enjoyed two different scrambles, both of which were amazing, fresh, and flavorful. The ambiance is light and easy-going. We both commented on the tipless policy, which was an added enjoyment to our experience, knowing that the staff were being treated fairly and with dignity - and not just schmoozing for a tip/living wage. Nothing is more disappointing as to being introduced to a hidden gem of a restaurant that has been close to you all along and you never knew it; this is the case for Gigi's Cafe Located in Portland's SW Hillsdale neighborhood, this is a very "Portland" cafe that serves an amazing breakfast/brunch/lunch in a hopping, yet eclectic atmosphere and that boasts a strict no tipping policy. Waffles seems to be their specialty and if things could get any better, their house bacon is ridiculously delicious and cooked to your specifications. It appears that everyone takes care of everyone so you don't wait long for anything other than maybe your table to be seated. It's well worth the wait. I selected their Maple/Bacon Waffle which was nothing less than perfect. I have included pictures of the other meals at our table. If there was a drawback to this restaurant it's probably the very busy parking lot and your luck at finding a spot. Waiting for your table is made even easier by having a Starbucks just a few doors away. There is absolutely no question we will be back. If you know about Gigi's I ask you why you have been keeping this place a secret? If it's now new to you as it was for us; you will absolutely fall for this place. read more

Let me get the only (really, only) negative is the table size, very small and the seating isn't about lounging (forces turnover so more people can enjoy). This place is a Portland best kept breakfast secret and is where we frequent when passing through. The waffles are amazing, and this includes the gluten free. I had the olive oil lemon cake waffle with lavender honey syrup which was fabulous, crunchy/fluffy delicious. My significant had the gluten free Brussels with fried chicken which was similar crunchy/fluffy and the chicken is magical with gluten free (you wouldn't know) coating. My folks had the scramble, very flavorful (don't tell them, not as good as each of the waffles). One important rule I have for breakfast place- coffee (or tea) has to be excellent and of course theirs is very good. Tips included. Plenty of strip mall parking. This was my first visit to Gigi's. I chose to visit GiGi's because of their no-tip policy, which I whole-heartedly support. The whole tipping "culture" is the result of unethical business practice, IMO. I ordered a reuben sandwich with cole slaw, and a side of cheesy grits. The sandwich was flavorful, but fairly average. I've had worse, but I've also had much better. The cole slaw was also underwhelming, and there was no discernible cheese in the "cheesy" grits. Hopefully their other offerings are a little more exceptional. I would love to see them succeed, if only as an example that the no-tipping culture can work. read more

Visited on a busy Saturday morning and the food was worth the wait. I had tried the chicken and waffles before so this time I went with the scramble. It was excellent. My wife had a gluten free waffle as well as the pulled pork dish which she really enjoyed. We didn't receive a full table setting at first, or enough water for our table of 4, and then an order for OJ was missed but the host was very friendly and attentive and did his best to make it right. You would think that for a restaurant "only" serving waffles, the menu would be quite limited. Wrong! This place has a near endless number of toppings and add-ons. Everything is delicious. This is a no tip restaurant and they are serious about the policy. I was not aware of this and started to leave cash on the table and was told by one of the servers that they did not accept tips. The next time I was there I read the menu. They pay their employees what they refer to as a "living wage" and the true cost of labor is included in the price of food. While the prices are a tad on the high side, no tips and very happy employees make it well worth it. read more

Pleasantly surprised by this little cafe tucked away in a strip mall. The food was delicious! And the service was superb. First " tip less" restaurant we've ever been to. What a neighborhood gem! Had a major craving for breakfast out and since I've driven past this cafe for the last few months on my way to work, finally had the chance to go in for brunch. Decor is super cute on the inside! Loved the atmosphere and the fact that employees are given benefits. I really appreciate a small business that values their team. Service was awesome! Almost as soon as we sat at the bar, our server was over getting our drink order and bringing us some sample waffles. Let me tell you, one taste of the waffles here and you'll be sold. I'm not normally a waffle person, but wow. Literally the best I've ever tried. I started with a decaf vanilla latte and my boyfriend had the fresh squeezed OJ. Best OJ AND latte I've had in ages. Love that we could watch the squeeze happen from our seats at the bar. My boyfriend had the breakfast burrito with veggie sausage (of course I got to taste it) and yes, we'll be getting that one again. I had the veggie scramble and subbed potatoes and fruit for the greens and grits. Fruit was perfect, really liked the tiny cuts on the fruit too. So many options for everything you can order here, so I feel like I'd try the spicy potatoes next time just to see. I love Gigis so much!! Ambiance is cozy-- I LOVE THE PET PAINTINGS!!!!!-- and they have some funny signs and cute decor. The wait staff is some of the happiest seeming, friendly, patient servers I've seen in a restaurant. I don't know if it's because they just love their jobs or that it's a tip-less establishment where they get paid a living wage but they're the BEST! The food is always really good and consistent! The free mini waffle you get when you first sit down is maybe my favorite thing ever. They have vegetarian and gluten free options which i always appreciate. Wow! Don't know how I missed this place! They gave me a free sample of their liege waffle, it is quite good a I would say lighter than most places, they said it comes with 3 kinds of sugar so no maple syrup. I had their veggie scramble without the seasonal veggies (whatever those were). I had their Brussels mini waffle instead of toast for $1 more. I asked if it was a yeast waffle but the server did not seem to know, I would have said yes, but being GF maybe not, it came with maple syrup. The black coffee was great, no after taste, maybe a tad lighter than perfection. I told him I was thinking of OJ and out it came! Very good but pricey though just $2 more than coffee. I do like breakfast potatoes with egg dishes, but this was so good, maybe just a waffle and coffee next time. He was right the grits were quite good but I wasn't that hungry at the end so I did not finish them or the greens. It was pretty full - around 1pm?, but plenty of space for one, and empty outside which they let me do! I might remember pictures next time. $32 with the OJ so not cheap, but so good. read more

Yum! This place is a cute little cafe that focuses on waffles but has a good variety of breakfast foods. Overall the food here is awesome! The sample waffles they dropped off before we ordered were amazing!! However, knowing what I know now, I would not order the Maple Bacon Waffle. The spiced candied lardons is basically a pile of what reminds me of chunks of pork belly on top of a waffle. I think I was imagining much smaller chunks or shredded pork in the badder of the waffle. I live in Seattle so probably won't be back here soon, but if I do come back, I'd order the Applewood Smoked Bacon, eggs, greens and it comes with a normal side waffle. Someone ordered this at my table and I was jealous. I ate about half of my Maple bacon waffle and felt a little ill. It wasn't "bad" food but it was REALLY rich.
