The food was spectacular! I love that they have so many Vegan and Vegetarian Options. Service was amazing and they had just the right amount of attentiveness. I know it's a long wait to get inside, but it Worth it. Loved the French Toast, SO good! Great Food, Great Staff, Awesome Kitchen. A must have Breakfast/Brunch in Portland.
Cute restaurant with indoor and outdoor seating. Sometimes there can be a bit of a wait so that's something to keep in mind. All staff were friendly and efficient. I got the Bennie hash and it was delicious, along with a The big dill Bloody Mary! My friend got the smoked tempeh and vegetable hash, it was also delicious. It's always a nice experience coming here.
Food was absolutely amazing. The beanie hash was a hit. I was a fan of the espresso martini whatsoever. All of my friends loved the outdoors seating vibes.
What a super cool place! Great food, great service and very cool vibe. It's the kind of place that makes me want to move to Portland from the Bay Area!
Brought my sweet hubby here for a brunch date, and man oh man am I glad we did! We somehow arrived at the Goldilocks moment and found NO WAIT! We were seated at a window table with a great view of the entire restaurant and the beautiful bar. In no time we had our lovely lattes, a great chat with our server, and ordered our breakfast. It arrived quickly and was truly delicious! Hot and fresh... this is a big thumbs up from me!
Jam has been my must go breakfast spot since the first time we visited. This Thanksgiving holiday, me and my partner went to Portland again, and we spent all three of our breakfasts here, as always, no hesitation, no regrets. I tried the Downtown Scramble (without cheese), the Two Eggs Breakfast, and the Kimchi Hash. To be honest, Jam hasn't failed me so far. With the tomatoes and zucchini, the Downtown Scramble is on the lighter side without cheese. I think I'll start doing that from now on, I'm really not a cheese fan anyway. The Two Eggs Breakfast can never go wrong anywhere. On the last day of our trip, I decided to try something new, so I went with the Kimchi Hash. So glad I did! It was so good. I could smell the kimchi the moment it was served. This is a flavor bomb for sure. If you love kimchi or fermented foods, or if you're not a "salt and pepper is enough" person, I highly recommend trying this. Do note that it's a carb heavy breakfast and might make you a bit drowsy afterward lol. Also, if you're on a first date or have a serious meeting later, the green onion and kimchi might linger on your breath, so prepare some mints just for the best! The portion was quite big too, I think it could easily feed two persons or fifteen almond moms. All the staff we met were so nice and friendly as well!

I got eggs Benny and the poached eggs were over done but overall tasty. I prefer a little more salt than some people, so by and large I thought it was lacking a little flavor. The biscuits and gravy were tasty but the biscuits were not as fluffy as I prefer. My friends got the fall Bennie. It had a slight natural sweetness from the squash, the salty onions on top and a more lemon forward hollandaise and it all balanced very well. A side of bacon would've been nice. They said the wait was going to be 20 min and the table was ready super quickly! Our server was quick and to the point. Offered great suggestions.
Jam on Hawthorne was the perfect spot for a girls' brunch date. Our group of three waited about 30 minutes for a table, but the food made it so worth it. They offer several vegan dishes, I loved the vegan house scramble with tofu, veggies, hashbrowns, and sourdough toast. Their housemade marionberry jam was amazing and so delicious with the toast. We shared a mimosa bucket with raspberry purée, which was just the right size for the three of us. Parking is limited to busy street parking, so plan ahead. Overall my experience was fantastic and I'm already looking forward to my next visit!

This is a well known spot for a reason! I went to Jam on Hawthorne for the first time, and now is a go to with friends. The energy was warm and inviting, and the experience only got better from there. The flavors were incredible, every bite was packed with personality. The pulled pork was especially standout, bursted with rich savory and flavor. And the pancake! The lemon ricotta pancake was unforgettable, and I have raved about it since! This place truly lives up to the Portland food hype!

Delicious food and great service. Chai was perfect, not too sweet, just the right amount. The grits as well as the gravy on the loaded hashbrowns needed salt though, a little bland. Took about 30 min to get seated when we got there around 10-1030. Glad they have ample seating with two dining rooms and an outdoor seating area covered with sun-shading angled umbrellas.
Just your average brunch spot! We sat outside, but I would say the inside is much cuter. Be prepared for a long wait on the weekend, but it goes by quickly if you have a smaller party! They have LARGE portions!

Jen was a wonderful waitperson who understood my budget needs. I was torn between the Bacon/Mushroom/Green onion scrambled eggs and the classic pancake, but I didn't want to get both because of the price (which, I admit, was a bit on the pricey side -- but what breakfast place isn't?) and she suggested omitting the sides for the scramble and adding a single pancake instead, which rounded out to the same price. The sides would have been $6.50 in total, same price as the pancake. The pancakes are, in fact, big enough. I got full on them both and enjoyed it! Again, shoutout to Jen. Very understanding and fun. Cappuccino was also nice. read more
One of those classic Portland spots that everyone tells you to try, and i finally got to. They don't take reservations, so we went first thing on a Friday morning, and the main dining room was already full by 8:30. So I can only imagine how busy it would be on a saturday or sunday morning. Food is fantastic. The bennie was listed as their most popular dish and I can see why. I don't typically get egg benedicts, but this has swayed me. The eggs were perfectly runny. Hashbrowns were crispy on the outside but nice and soft on the inside. I got it with the biscuit, and i will say, i think they were a little over done? they felt harder than I would expect. A standout that i was not expecting though was their home made hot sauce. You would expect their jam to be good, given the name; but their hot sauce is nothing to scoff at. An amazing blend of sweet and spicy, without it being overly sweet or spicy. read more

We had a big day plan for my birthday weekend and Jam on Hawthorne was stop one. We got there before it opened and waiting in line. We got sat right when they opened! Clearly they are use to being busy as they were well prepared. Staff was kind and made sure we got our drinks, creamer/sugar, and were able to ask questions. To be honest during our time there we were asking every 5-10 minutes if we were doing good which was nice. We both ordered a meal and got cheesy grits on the side. Those grits were the best part of the whole meal. I will say mine could have used more sauce compared to what was on the plate it was a tad dry but flavors were great! Overall this place is amazing. Cool Portland vibes, friendly staff, clean bathroom, and great food. This is exactly what you want. read more

I finally made it! Not sure I will ever go out of my way, to go back. We arrived at 8:14am and already lots of tables were filled, but we didn't have to wait for a spot. The server was friendly to us and talked over the specials with us. We ordered Bloody Mary's and while the Brams stocker was good, it didn't say come back frequently for me. The eggs Benedict was a let down. The eggs were over cooked, think boiled egg, and didn't run at all. The Maddie pancake was okay, but even the lemon curd was sweetened and didn't zing like lemon curd normally does. The table was small and it was a tight fit for two plates, 2 bloody Mary's, 2 water glasses, plus the table accessories. It was also very noisy! There is no attempt to dampen the noise and it became difficult to talk to each other as the room filled up. read more
Jam is an experience that comes with culture, flavor and a dose of nostalgia. What's not to like? The menu is a lot... so don't feel discouraged if it's overwhelming at first. Start with the decision of whether to go for brunch or lunch. The rest isn't much easier but the choices are plentiful and delicious from top to bottom. Service is good but not amazing. The atmosphere is the epitome of SE: a bit dingy, part rough around the edges and too hip for the average person. The food is fairly priced and portions are generous. Plan for a long wait on weekends... weekday visits are my jam (pun intended). read more

Listen to me when I say, I understand the hype around this place. *clutches pearls* I brought my mom and aunt here to brunch with a friend, need I say the service , HUNNY LA could never give you a 2.5 seconds seating on a busy mid summer morning. We walked in, it was crowded, we were seated, had menus and drinks within less than 20 mins surrounded by local talented art. The food took a while but I mean this how long food takes when you put love and seasoning into it. They did the damn thing on my meal, I don't know about everyone else's (cause they weren't trying to share). BUT my meal......Mwuah read more

On our first morning in Portland over Thanksgiving break our son recommended this spot as it was a close walk from our Airbnb. We did not have to wait at all. We walked right in even though we're a large party of six. There was a huge booth that had just become available and were sat. Our waiter was fabulous, super helpful and patient. I had the London fog and it was delicious and I also had the fall squash Benedict dish and it was amazing. I would go back if I'm ever in Portland again. read more

I've always loved this place. This has a been a go-to brunch spot for me for the last decade and it always delivers. There are so many options for all kinds of diets and they're all delicious. The place is packed to the brim on weekends and does not take reservations or give time estimates over the phone so go early. The service is always friendly and the food and drinks are so good. The stand outs of this particular review are the Maggie Cakes, of which I ordered a side of one cake because I knew my other order would be filling. The blueberry compote and lemon ricotta topping is the perfect balance of sour and sweet. I could eat these every day. I also ordered the Two Egg Breakfast and I have to say I LOVE being able to eat gravy here. It's vegetarian and made with mushrooms, and is still so flavorful. I wouldn't say it's quite as good as Pine State's veggie gravy, but it's my second favorite in the city. I always get a mimosa here, as well, which is $10 for a 12oz drink which is more than you think it is, but they also offer a quart size if you're going all out! read more

We stayed at an Airbnb right across the street and decided to stop in for brunch during our stay. We were seated quickly in a booth. The walls are covered in art for sale by local artists. We ordered coffees and they were perfect. I got a classic breakfast plate and then we shared the French toast. Everything was delicious. I liked the vegetarian breakfast sausage a lot. We also tried the jam of course which was very fresh and unique. I'd definitely come back here next time! read more

I loved this place! We were having a hard time picking a breakfast spot. The reviews were super helpful. Pretty nice neighborhood and a decent sized restaurant. We got right in. We ordered several things outside our comfort zone and were pleasantly surprised. The virgin dill Bloody Mary is PERFECT! The salt rim was so yummy. The French toast surprised me. I HATE sweet breakfast and this was delicious. I ate half the piece myself which is insane. The Ty's big breakfast was good except the biscuits. They were a little too hard for me. But the sausage, gravy, and scrambled eggs with green onions was perfection. The vibe was very eclectic but I really enjoyed our breakfast and all the waitresses were super nice. I took a jam souvenir home and I'm so excited! It's homemade and so good! Absolutely recommend this place. read more

I think about this place a lot. Specifically, I think about the Grand Marnier French toast as one of the most decadent sweet breakfasts I can get my paws on in Portland. I've been to Jam several times and most recently visited on a Thursday morning when I had a friend visiting from out of town (yay a day off!) I recall the weekend wait being kind of long- it was well worth the wait. I usually stop by on a Thursday or Friday morning. One of my 'treat yourself' stops. The French toast is not to be missed, but the menu is stacked full of other delicious items- sweet and savory. I'll be back again soon! read more
hankering for some fuel after a weekday sunrise hike in the gorge, we thought to try jam on the way back into town because we've heard so much. disappointedly, i'm sorry to share that our experience here was just not it: mom and i got the (vegan) Smoked Tofu & Vegetable Hash; my sister got the Ty's Big Breakfast. i'm a huge tofu aficionado and open to trying it in all sorts of dishes, but the tofu here was heavy on the salt and overcooked to the point of taking on a rubbery texture. i found the cauliflower just okay, and hash was dripping in oil. i do commend the inclusion of a vegan butter alternative to complement our gluten free toast which is uncommon, but the butter had lots of artificial additives like TBHQ and stuff :( re: Ty's Big Breakfast, found the dish to be rather salty, and overall average. don't get me wrong, i appreciate the presence of gluten free and vegan dishes, but for the price commanded here, i was hoping for some elegance in the way these dishes are prepared, rather than what i found to be somewhat the bare minimum. setting: indoor/outdoor (weather permitting). seating is streetwise and on hawthorne, so just be aware that it can be noisy! but plus is that there are sun-angled umbrellas. to cap it all, i'm sad to report we felt sick after eating here :,( this just wasn't the place to be. read more

How is the parking availability near the restaurant?
Parking on Hawthorne is always a little tough but turn up 22nd or 23rd... even onto Madison and you should be able to find a spot!
Do they have plan pancakes?
You gotta plan ahead for it... haha. Seriously though, I believe you can request it, but usually people go there for their unique food and specialties.
Going to try to to make it here tomorrow (Tuesday 8/22) How early should we get there to be able to walk in?
We went on a weekday around 1130 and only had to wait about 10 minutes or so

Unfortunately all 10 will have to be there to be seated, and I don't think they take reservations. Earlier the better. I advise to call the day before and give them a heads up as a courtesy? If anything, they'll give you the best answer ;) But…

Sadly they do not have any outdoor seating or allow dogs inside. They do have chairs and coffee outside for when you wait, however!
Do they serve breakfast all say or just until 11?
If we're open, we're serving breakfast--any time from 7:30am to 3pm.
