I have been using Gilbert Poolman for a year now and have nothing but good things to say. I was turned on to them by a friend of mine who simply raves about their service and friendly nature. I called and received a very good quote (much less than those I received when calling around to other pool maintenance businesses) and received my first cleaning free. When I called, they were very knowledgeable and answered all of my questions and concerns. They always arrive promptly and get the job done in a quick and efficient manner. What I really like is how nice they are to my two dogs. My dogs are very protective of the house and usually do not like strangers and I thought it was awesome that the guy cleaning the pool actually carried dog treats with him to make friends with any dogs he may encounter during his stops - AND he was kind enough to ask if he may feed them to my dogs before he did so. When I went out of town for two weeks I didn't have to worry about anything because they let themselves in through the back gate and handled business with no problems. When a few parts on the heater needed replacing I received extremely fair quotes for the parts and service - they even worked out a payment plan for me! I have been using Gilbert Poolman for over a year now. I'm set up on a weekly service and either Rob or the owner Jay are the ones that come out. Pool is perfectly clean and they've never missed my scheduled Tuesday. My old pump has had some leaking issues and they come out same day or the next morning when I've called about it. The service was great at the beginning, when Jerrid was the technician. Once Jerrid left, the technicians kept changing, and some of them were downright incompetent. To make matters worse, Jake B. (the owner) charged at least twice for things we did not authorize ($50 for a pool hose, and a parting gift charge on our credit card of $35). When I called to question the pool charge, Jake was belligerent. I should've noticed the red flags sooner! For example, the lack of proper monthly invoices hard make it hard to pin down what extra charges are for. read more

I can't say enough good things about these folks. After 2 companies and a home inspector failed to diagnose my pool problem, Don came out and in 30 seconds had the problem found and the solution implemented. He showed up a day later with all necessary parts and chemicals. He called a few days later to check in and also dropped by to ensure that things were running smoothly. After 20+ years maintaining my pool myself, I decided to turn it over to a service. Little did I know that my first company would be a home run! And a local small business to boot! I tried them out for a simple repair and they were great. I signed up for weekly service over a month ago and Jared shows up like clockwork every Friday and leaves with a sparkling clean pool. I have even referred them to my son and daughter in law for a repair and they received the same quality response. I think the value for the price is very reasonable and fair. I called for service over a week ago about my pool pump leaking and not priming. I was told someone would get back with me in a day or so. I can understand that. This company has ZERO concern for its smallest clients because this company repeatedly (5+ plus) left our pool gate open and that could have turned into a death of a child. Yeah, they will give you updates on what they have done to your pool and come when you asked them/scheduled to, but that's not worth the safety of my child! I gave an honest review on this companies FB page and this is what happened: Gilbert Poolman: Tiffany Valentine Smith and Cody Smith are two disgruntled clients who have a broken gate lock that requires "special" locking instructions to make the gate latch actually lock into place. As I have been attentive to their needs to the best of my ability I do have employee's that work for me and occasionally they show their imperfections when it comes to remembering special directions on someone's pool fence lock. As understanding as most may be, even after giving these guys a free month of pool service they still feel compelled to come online and hurt my business by blaming us for not properly closing their gate and telling the public we could have been responsible for a death of their child. This is the action they would rather take than to actually insure the safety of their child by making the logical decision to maybe actually fix the gate lock that seems to be the root of the entire problem. Not just with us but with many other service companies as well. So what are they really concerned with, the safety of their child or the harassment of a business? I plan to blog about this couple and to create a special website informing not just the public about these two but also any other potential swimming pool business owners that may fall into this situation causing them to be victims of this couples harassment. One, the gate is not broken and has a special locking mechanism that is approved by the state of Arizona, how do I know this, because this fence was put up within the process it took for us to adopt our daughter in February of last year. This gate is a year and a half old by a company that is also approved by the state of Arizona. Like I said in my post, your service was fine it was the lack of a few seconds to make sure my gate was properly closed that was the issue, which was done at times by your technician, but I can't rely on, at times. Now, I have not "harassed" your business, I gave a review of my experience with your company and did not falsely accuse you or your company of anything, but what you are now doing is harassment because you didn't like my review of my experience. Let me give you the Arizona definition of slander and libel law, "A statement that brings a plaintiff into disrepute, contempt, or ridicule, or impeaches a plaintiff's honesty, integrity, virtue, or reputation." Now, I will look "in about a week" for your blog for what you will say about my husband and I and I will make sure you do not say one false word about us. Ok, were do we start with Gilbert Poolman LLC (Jake - owner). I first called Gilbert Poolman LLC and was quoted $75 for a pool cleaning. I felt that was a good price, so I scheduled an appointment for the owner Jake came out to my house to review my pool and gave me another quote of $90 because my pool was a little larger, and we have an in ground Jacuzzi. At this point, I should have gone with my gut and said No Thanks, but I felt I would give Jake a chance, since he was bragging about all the companies that he has ran, and this was his 3rd company. I should have asked who the companies were at that point (Refer to Lost Dutchman Pools). I then asked Jake about an iAquaLink for my pool system. He quoted me $650 fully installed, I then proceed to have him go ahead and have this system installed. I will admit it was my fault for not asking him what was going to be installed, I assumed it was the complete system. But unfortunately, it was only the antenna portion. I was a little shocked to find out it was only the antenna. I know that you could buy that system a lot cheaper online and install it myself (Jake will respond with; it's cheaper online because of a warranty of 30 days and not a year). The installer removes the panel and plugs it into the mother board/control panel and leaves. I called Jake to let him know that I understand I was taken on the price and that was my fault for not doing my research and asking him more questions on what would be installed. What I didn't accept was that even after paying $650 for a system, it still didn't work. I let him know again my frustration's that this system is not working at it's been four days. (Jake will respond with; it was the weekend and I was in Sedona) So he said he will have the technician come out and trouble shot the problem. When the technician came out (Don), I told Don that I had spent my whole night (Saturday night) to get it connected to the wireless network but it was still not working with the motherboard. You would think if you are paying a lot of money for a system it would work when the technician leaves, and you don't have to spend your time trying to get the system to work but again, that would be what a real company would do. Once the technician (Don) came out and reviewed the system, Don said it was the mother board, it was outdated and didn't respond to the antenna portion. Don then called the owner Jake to get approval to have the motherboard replaced. Don then came back the next day to install the motherboard, he said we should be good to go! Unfortunately that was not the case, when the system was replaced, it moved the automatic values and caused the Jacuzzi to drain (Water level was low in the Jacuzzi) and triggered our heater to kick on. Two weeks later, I asked the pool cleaning technician's why the water level was low, they didn't have an answer, but they did tell me my heater has been running for two weeks. I then called Jake and let him know my heater was on and that I had figured out how to turn it off. Fast forward two weeks later, I get a visit from Southwest gas stating my gas usage was up, and wanted to make sure we didn't have a gas leak or our meter was correct. I then went online and looked at my usage and we are going to have pay $300 for the month, when our normal usage is $50 a month. Hence the reason southwest gas came out to our property. I then again called Jake and let him know that we had a problem (The system was installed and the heater kicked on. Jake's response is below via text; (Jake - I will call you tomorrow) Good morning Don. Listen after speaking with several people including the manufacture on this subject. I have made my determination. At this time I do not feel it is our responsibility to watch your heater or to monitor your heater and its use. Our job when we show up every week is to make sure everything is in good working condition. If your heater is working then we would not have reported any issue. We do not live at the residence and should not be held responsible for your heater being on for two weeks. After your last dissatisfaction with our company and now after this situation I feel it is in the best interest of both of us if we part ways after the 1st of this month. I apologize that are service felt short of your expectations. We will continue to service your pool through the month or the time you have paid for. Thank you again for your business. If your employee came out and installed the part, which they did and the heater was kicked on because of this, yes it's your responsibility to make sure it was off. A replacement date was set quickly & accomplished as promised for the estimated amount. Everyone from the office staff to the service personnel were friendly and professional . Came home to find pool servicer IN MY HOUSE!!!! I came home today and noticed the pool guys truck (or what I assumed to be, as their trucks aren't marked) on the street. Opened garage door and noticed the door to the side of the house was opened, AND the door to the inside of the house was not closed tightly!! Cautiously went inside and looked around and saw no one, looked outside at the pool and saw no one as well. Then I noticed that a closet door in the master bedroom that is NEVER closed, was closed. I knew something was wrong and rushed my two small children back out to the car in the garage and told them to stay put. I then went back inside the house and saw the pool guy going out the door in the master bedroom that leads to the backyard and noticed that the same closet door was now opened. The guy gave me a false name and completely denied being in the house even after I WATCHED him walk out the door. I demanded his drivers license (different name than what he told me) and called the police. Of course he denied being in the house to the police as well. After all was said and done, the owner informs me afterwards that this was not the first time this happened with this employee, that he walked in another house when someone was actually home! WHAT??!! I have to say, this guy is VERY lucky that I was not home when he came walking into MY house, or he would have been visited (I'm assuming) with his first bullet to the balls.. or chest.. my aim is not always dead on. All this happened after the owner came just one week prior to replace our key Masterlock on the side gate with a combination lock, because a different employee quit and never returned the keys to the gate locks she had. 7/18/13: In response to Darren M.'s post today about "harassing" accusations, if you are including my review, I can say I only wish that none of this ever happened! I spent 2 hours convincing my two very young kids that were scared to go to bed last night that something like this will never happen again. As if I would EVER put my kids through such a traumatic experience because "I had too much time on my hands". Please do not accuse me of "talking garbage" implying I would make ANY of this up. I have a police report number and a Gilbert police officer's name that you can contact to verify any of the information I gave above! As far as the sawing off of the gate lock the week before due to another employee taking the ring of keys with her when she quit, I'm sure Jake would verify that information himself if he's truly the stand-up guy you say he is. Jake (the owner, and I'm sure your good friend) may be a very nice guy (he did call to see if there was anything he could do after this happened yesterday). My problem is with his employees and my own experience, and I feel consumers have the right to know. 6/15/14 - UPDATE: Jake, I am absolutely in shock at your accusation that I am making this up. I know you remember this unfortunate (for everyone) incident well, as you talked with me many times over the phone while the police were still at my house. I would be more than happy to provide you (and anyone else who would like it, for that matter) a copy of the Gilbert police report and copy of your employee's driver's license from that day. I am appalled at your lack of un-professionalism by one year later accusing me of being a liar and making the whole thing up. An unfortunate incident it was for everyone. And I am not saying it is a reflection of your overall business. But it did happen and I felt potential customers had a right to know about it. If you were a true man of integrity, you would not call people lairs (especially, with a policy report to prove this incident DID occur). At least own up to it, apologize and stand up for your business! read more

So, in the world of pool service - these guys are in the Hall of Fame!! While trying to get someone to come look at our pool, I made appointments with companies for which no one showed up. I called a major pool supply company in town and they failed to show up or even call us back, and left many messages with different pool services with no returned calls. Then I called Gilbert Poolman and received a call back from the owner of the company, Jake, right away. Jake informed me one of his technicians would call me in 30-45 minutes, which happened. His tech, Rob, set an appointment for 9am the next day, and he arrived right on time. He explained what needed to be done, quoted me a price before we started - then he spent a couple hours cleaning the cartridge filter, cleaning the pool, testing the water then accurately supplying it with chemicals -- all while patiently explaining everything he was doing so in turn, I could in the future properly take care of the pool myself. There were no "hard sells", there was no "we need to be taking care of your pool", there was simply old-fashioned outstanding service by honest people charging fair prices. I would, by far and wide, recommend Jake, Rob and Gilbert Poolman as your clear choice for pool service. These guys are the real deal! read more

This company is extremely inconsistent, rude, and just an awful experience overall. Over the weekend I was out of town and he didn't set the timer right and the pool pump was on for 3 days straight and burnt the pump out. It cost me a large amount of money to get fixed and was extremely inconvenient and superfluous. I believe if i was with any other company this would not have happened. So unprofessional. And later that week (this was just last week, the last week of June) I come to find out the owner sells and smokes weed illegally. I cannot believe how bad of an experience I have had with the owner and the company in general. He refused to compensate me for the money I had to put into my pool because of HIS wrong doing because apparently it was "my fault" because I was out of town Eventhough I told him multiple times that I was gone for the weekend and to set the timer correctly because I will not be home for the weekend. I am dumbfounded as to why this company is still in business. The owner has no regard for his customers and no respect or customer service skills! I would NOT recommend him to ANYONE. There are MANY other pool companies that are a much better choice to say the least! Unless you like to be treated like sh**, I would NOT sign up with this company. read more
