Waitress said "all the cooks took their break at the same time". She brought by salad, but said they were still cooking the chicken that was to go on my salad. While we waited for boxes and our bill, other servers walked right past us without asking if we needed anything as we were looking around for our server. I have dined here at least a half dozen times and have enjoyed it each time except the last. The pizza I ordered was not flavorful at all. The chicken had no taste, and I could barely taste garlic in the garlic sauce. I've enjoyed the breakfast cafe twice, but the last time I was at the restaurant, I asked if the rumors were true that the buffet no longer had an omelette bar, and was told that is true. So sad. I want to like this place, but not sure it's maintain the quality it once had. However, it's not a bad place, I'd still recommend it. read more

Let's start with the positive. I love the vibe. Outdoor seating available. Now the bad, wait service was short staffed. Plates were just left on tables long after the guest left. Water was self served in a plastic cup. Because of short staffing, one waiter was trying to take everyone orders. Food came out cold, very bland. Chicken strips was crispy. We were headed to Independence to teach the next generation the find art of rock skipping so we're looking for a place that was open on a Tuesday that could manage the culinary demands of a three and seven year old as well as their accompanying grownups. Gilgamesh for the win! I have not been impressed with the Gilgamesh in Salem for some time now, but this was a great experience from arrival to departure. The Food was very good (fried pickle appetizer and a Cobb salad for me) The burgers on the kids menu were HUGE and they brought them out just ahead of the adult entrees which was greatly appreciated. Our server, Scott, was excellent and really kept on top of making sure we all had what we needed. We will be back for sure. read more

The pizza is good! Love the texture and taste of the crust. The garlic knots are AMAZING. Fluffy and delicious. The outside area is amazing and they are putting in a stage for live music. They will eventually will have rooftop seating too! We each had a small salad and shared a 12" pizza. It was a good portion for two people. The staff was friendly and helpful. I think everyone needs to give a little grace right now with service. Due to the pandemic regulations and guidelines are ever changing and the service industry is trying to keep up. Hey you guys! You need to get your Coast restaurant onto Yelp. We just ate there. The food was great. We weren't expecting a lot from a restaurant in an outlet mall...but this place "hit it out of the park!" I had the campus burger and my wife had the turkey/bacon/avocado...both were amazing. Called to order two pizzas to go. Person I talked to said it would be 15 minutes. I asked Them to hold it for 15 minutes and I would be there in 30 minutes, when I got there they told me it would still be 20 minutes as they actually hadn't even started the pizza yet and the people making the pizza actually got flippant. So I sat down and had a beer which they said they would cover and then about 20 minutes later they deliver the pizzas which are both over cooked, overall I would not recommend getting pizza here read more

This is my neighborhood bar and I've been here at least 30 times. Pizza is one of the main menu items and I really want to love their pizzas but I don't. The crust is fab -mmmm- but that's where it stops. They tend to be flavorless, with tasteless pesto (how can you make pesto take like nothing???! I make pesto so wonder what's up!) . Even the tomato sauce base doesn't taste like anything. People! You need to do something about the boring, bland pizza. My 90 year old grandma would love it because it takes like nothing. Always good beer and fried pickles. Amazing patio. Turn the lights down in the main part, it's not an interrogation room at the police station. Fools without masks wandering in, so beware. read more

We live in Independence, and have eaten at Gilgamesh quite a few times. Their staff is pleasant, and the restaurant is very nice. The food is touch and go. We've had, in the past, great wings, pizza, and decent salads. The cocktails are adequate, and their own beers ok - decent enough to return. Things occasionally go bad: the burgers charred to oblivion and soggy fried pickles in a pool of grease, but that is the exception, rather than the rule. The big problem is that Gilgamesh is chronically understaffed, and there is apparently no dedicated host. You'll typically stand at the entry with nobody paying any attention to you except the servers whizzing past muttering "I'm so sorry". Last night three large parties ahead of us in line gave up and left - one woman with a family commenting to her husband "I TOLD you this would happen!! It always happens!! NEVER AGAIN!!!!" It DOES always happen. If you go, be prepared for it so it doesn't ruin your evening. read more

First time stopping in here and it did not disappoint! The staff was welcoming from the moment we walked in the door, we sat out back on the patio and our server was friendly and had good recommendations. All the beer was great especially the Hobo Cake (13.9% stout with whip cream and a cherry on it) the Woods burger was cooked to perfection and had the most complimentary condiments to go with it. We ate dinner at The River - Independence location conveniently located along the riverfront . It's nice to have a restaurant / brew pub to go to locally . The space was large and airy , we went before 5 pm to take advantage of the happy hour items . There was live music in the large back area, in hindsight should have sat there . There are bites available on the happy hour menu , we chose to split a Caesar salad . The dressing was quite good had a lemony hint . Started out with beer- Pacific Crush IPA and David's Chair Hef . The Jazzy IPA was out of season , would have been my first choice . Both beers were drinkable , for me I didn't taste much of the hints of coconut , pineapple and mango , however I will qualify that by saying my sinuses are blocked and taste / smell go together . I would give that one another try or buy some to try again at home for sure . The hef my husband had was good no bitterness in any way definitely a companion to a burger . We each ordered burgers , mine was the Woods Burger , my husband the Gorgonzola burger . He felt the burger itself was a little overdone , but the bun and the cheese were very tasty . Also the fries very good and they serve a special ketchup which tastes better than the standard ketchup you would expect . My burger was tasty , the meat was savory . I forgot to tell them to leave it a little pink , that's my bad . The ingredients on my burger were savory , again my taste was a little off so I don't think I was able to get the full flavor . The fries portion is very generous, I asked for ranch to dip and also quite good . Because we are big eaters decided to order a small pizza and try that . There are lots of choices , our very helpful server made suggestions . We thought perhaps do custom make your own, then realized The Sandy was the same with the banana peppers so that's where we ended up . The crust was pretty good , not soggy and very satisfying . The cheese and sauce tasty , not too acidic ( important when you're old and worry about heartburn ). We were able to take home pizza and half a burger with fries . I would give the fact that there's live music a consideration as a place to go to drink a few beers and relax . Decent food this time around. We ordered a couple pizzas and Cesar salads and it was all good. Only three stars bc the place was pretty dirty. We moved tables as the one we were seated at was ready to fall off onto the ground. The menus were stained with grease and food. The chairs had dried food on them. Had to ask for clean utensils... the floors were really dirty. The wait staff was great! No complaints there. Hope some cleaning is on the to do list. We really want to love this place. read more

We got a flight of beer to try. Our server was super helpful because we had no idea what to pick as we don't drink a ton. Definitely a fun experience. We also got the MacKenzie pizza and it was amazing. I loved the crust on the ends, it was like getting some garlic bread as a bonus. The toppings were plentiful and very flavorful. After almost a 100 degree day river float we were so thrilled to be back in independence to find some food and cold beer. This location is in an awesome place and had plenty of street parking even on a busy Sunday afternoon. We were seated promptly but after being outside all day knew we didn't want to be outside or in the sun. The seating of this place was quite impressive. Multiple levels, indoor and outdoor spaces and plenty of space with people appropriately distancing. Be warned that with the garage door near the back you get some intense evening sun if your sitting by it. It didn't bother me but I know some people were a little uncomfortable from it from the table next to us. Service was quick and we got our beers and some water within a couple minutes of sitting down. Always appreciated since I felt pretty rough and dehydrated from the river. Our server was awesome. Very attentive and even noticed before we did that one of our beers had an unusual amount of foam. He quickly took it back and got another and that attention to detail always makes a place stand out for me. We grabbed two of their burgers which come with a side of fries or pasta salad. I substituted a side salad which was very good. They absolutely hit the spot. We will look to grab pizzas here next time since that seems to be a speciality of theirs. Overall I loved the atmosphere of this place. It was big, bright, with a pleasing aesthetic and awesome people working there. We're locals and can't stop coming back! Between the pizza, drinks, prices and atmosphere, it's definitely our favorite restaurant in Monmouth-Independence. And we love to catch a movie after dinner since it's one block away from the theater. We tried burgers last time and they were good, but the pizza's exceptional. We're going to get pizza every time in the future. I think my only draw-back is that many of of the pizzas are really similar to each other, only varying by one or two toppings. It's not a big deal, but it makes it hard to decide what to choose and also hard to remember what you got last time. read more

We had dinner for the first time at this establishment May 4th. The place was very busy and we're seated quickly with out a reservation. Our 7 top ordered flavored lemonades and yummy porter beer with bread twists for the appetizer. We ordered three different pizzas chicken linguini and the chicken bacon ranch sandwich and the kids had chicken strips with house fries. Every single thing that was served was amazing and as well as the service. Pictures and comments on yelp had me thinking we had made a mistake with our dining decision. Wow! Talk about small town hospitality! We were unaware there was a covid curfew, and arrived minutes before the curfew went into effect. We felt horrible for arriving so late and were going to leave, however Cameron was insistent that it was no trouble at all. He sat us and served us and made us feel welcome. He even stopped by multiple times to ensure we were enjoying ourselves. Cameron wasn't the only one! Several servers even came by to check on us and gave us kind compliments.
