This is a follow up to my initial review. I filed a complaint with the CA Consumers Affairs division of Automotive Maintenance and Repair. They were promptly responsive and initiated an investigation, starting with acquiring all of my paper-work. An experienced mechanic working for that division came to Stockton, visited all three businesses involved, reviewed available records from two, but could not review Gill records because they had been deleted. The outcome was that Gill declined to acknowledge responsibility but agreed to reimburse me $100 of the $200 cost of repair as a sign of "good will" without offering an apology. read more

Took my car in because the brake were going on. After they looked the car over, they told me the master cylinder was going out. Had them fix it, cost over 800.00 to have it done. They only warranty it for 90 days. Guess what? The same brake problem reoccurred about 5 months after they fixed it. They wouldn't honor the warranty. I had my tire light showed up and took my car to Gill's. One of the workers there patched the tire up and checked the rest of the tires to make sure no more nails stuck in them. Did this fairly quick, so I would recommend them. I could have gone to other places that would have done it for free but probably would have had to wait a long time. read more

I went to visit my family out of town recently and during my stay, I heard some slight squeak sound coming from the back wheels of my dad's suv (08 Yukon XL). Being an automotive mechanic and 11 years in the aerospace industry, I went ahead to assess the brake wear to determine how bad it is. The rear pads are pretty much gone and the rotors just showing minor grooves and gouges. Since my stay was short, I called Gill's Tires for a quote for two rear rotors to be resurfaced and rear pads replacement. They quoted me $172 so I told my dad to take it to this place since it's a fairly good deal. After my dad dropped the SUV off, he received a phone call some many minutes later that it was going to cost $600 just for the rear rotors/pads and an additional $300 for the front pads. The quote went from a whopping $172 to $900!! This is the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard of! Now, I just ordered AcDelco pads for all four wheels and 2 rear AcDelco rotors all for only $200 from Amazon. Thanks to Amazon Prime, doing this work myself for dad is no big deal since I've done countless of brake works. The most important thing is that this shop will never see my family or family friends going to this shop in the future. Our experience at Gill's must be shared so that others can be aware of BS like this.. **Update** Spent $100 for 2 AcDelco rear rotors, $50 for rear AcDelco pads and $50 for front AcDelco pads. I drove from out of town to remove and replace the rear rotors and pads and now is working great. I went to work on the front brakes, come to find out both pads and rotors are still in excellent condition and plenty of meat left on the pads. In total, we spent only $150 for rear pads and rotors. We will be saving the extra set of front brake pads for a future brake replacement. read more

Needed 4new tires and a front end alignment. Also got my oil changed and my plastic spoiler under the front bumper reattached on the passenger side. I asked about my brakes and was pleased to find out that I had 75% left on my brakes when a previous mechanic had told me they needed replacing about 4000 miles ago (can you say "misleading"?) They're lucky they were the only shop open at the time or else I would've went to my usual.. SDS Auto Repair just down the street. I was a gill tires customer for almost 5 years.I have chrysler 300 2008 I have gotten tune ups,oil changes and tire rotations here with no issues. In may I notice that my car was leaking coolant, I called up gills tires and ask i if i can drop my car off to have it checked. I needed a car so i rented a car for 2 days, I recieved a call the same day stating i needed my thermostat, valves and hoses and my radiator replaced which would total $1700 plus, so I dediced do it because i needed my car. The day i was suppose to return my rental i was told that they had to order the thermostat from the dealer and i would have to wait until monday so i had to extend my car rental 2 more days. ( they called me on a saturday) On monday i was told i would have to pay an expedited fee for the part to be rushed and i although i was not told them before i signed my diagnostic contract i agreed. ( at this point they have had my car for 5 days) on tuesday I picked up my car and my gas for was E, when i dropped it off to them it was an half of tank.................so what was they doing to run my gas out?? Wednesday i notice i had the same leak as before. Took it to a different mechanic and they said the only thing replaced was the thermostat housing unit, and the valve and possibly the radiator WTH!!!!! so the new mechanice replaced the hoses and everything was fine until a week ago my valve started leaking, which was replaced 5 days ago and now i have radiator fluid leaking which is either a hole in the radiator or gasket blown. THIS HAS ME REALLY TICKED OFF!! mechanics can sit here and lie about work they've done and lie about it. I am disputing charges with my bank because this is ridiculous. I went to Gill Tires the other day when I first parked my car I saw how clean and neat the outside was, I was actually really shocked because the repair shops I've been to the outside is always dirty and disgusting. Then I went inside and Mr. Gill greeted me in a wonderful way I was impressed all the other bosses I went to were always in a bad mood. The inside was very clean and they had great female magazines to read. There bathroom was also very clean and there employees were very caring and respectful. There was also a tv on the wall for entertainment. One thing that really got me happy was they care about their customers the reason why I am saying this is because I needed to go back home but my car was getting fixed so I got really upset but Mr. Gill gave me a ride back home. Just stay away from Gill Tires. Sam is the rudest owner ever and doesn't take responsibility for his shoddy repair work. To sum up, Sam Gill, the owner of Gill Tires, is unskillful to be doing auto repair work and should not be in business doing this trade. Better off being a deceptive car dealer than an auto mechanic. I went in to have my brake worked on and came out with my car pulling strongly to the right and also my brake / car being rough when applying the brake. Then when I went back to tell Sam the problem he denied any responsibility and that it was not his fault. He said it was my alignment problem that is causing the pulling and wanted another $60 to adjust the alignment. An auto mechanic friend of mine said my alignment was fine and any pulling would be from defective tire(s). I had my tires replaced almost a year ago and already had them rotated about 1,000 miles ago and my car was still going straight before going into Gill Tires for brake service. After trying to tell Sam what is going on for the longest time because he wasn't listening to us, he decided to switch the front 2 tires to see if it is an alignment problem or not... After switching the tires, the car was pulling to the right and then to the left and then to the right again. This is an indication that it is a balance problem, so I told Sam that, and that the balance problem is also why the car felt rough when applying the brake. He was like, "I don't know... I don't know how to answer that..." I was like WTF??? I don't even work in the auto repair business and I know what the diagnosis is. He said he has been in the business for 20 years and he doesn't know jack about balance problem causing rough braking and making the car pulls, alternating from left and right, is just unbelievable to me. REALLY, HE SHOULD NOT BE IN THE AUTO REPAIR BUSINESS. He was like "how should I know you want to balance the tires after we take the tires off the car?" LIKE SERIOUSLY? You don't know that the tires might not balance the same after you take the tire off and put the tire back on the car? What an incompetent sly fox. Then he wanted $20 per tire to balance the tires. If someone couldn't do a job right after 2 times, do you really think I would let him scam me a third time? Ich don't think so. I requested my old parts back and he never showed them to me. I don't even know if they were even replaced. The moral of the story is STAY AS FAR AWAY FROM GILL TIRES AS POSSIBLE. Also, Sam needs a chill pill to control his anger and learn some customer service. I really should have researched online before going in to have my car serviced. Apparently, someone already rated Gill Tires 1 star on Yelp. Now it is too late. I lost $235 for brake pads replacement and rotor resurfacing that I don't even know if Sam actually replaced my brake pads or resurfaced my rotors at all. Now I have to take my car to another place to balance the tires. Argh... shame on SAM GILL of GILL TIRES. Also 1 star is too generous. Can we give no star at all? read more
