Ginger Garden used to be the place I would always go to. Over the years it's gone downhill. Fast. Today I ordered a couple lunch specials and four sushi rolls. I was then called and told that the restaurant was out of rice and that they don't serve lunch specials on holidays (It's Christmas Eve at 12:38PM as I write I this). A pu pu platter was offered as a substitute for the lunch specials. When I picked up my order, it was cold and missing soups and appetizers from the order.I was also told that there was a pending balance on the order even after it was paid for. I used to go here and really liked it. The last couple of times I've been there it was almost impossible to get waited on and they acted like they were doing you a favor by actually waiting on you. Time to update my review of this place. Not because I've eaten here since November of 2019, but because everything about the experience was so incredibly bad. Eight of our party came down with food poisoning. The restaurant told me, "go to the doctor and get diagnosed, we will pay for that and the meal (I had not asked for a refund initially, I wanted them to be aware of an issue with their restaurant) I did those things. They refused to honor a refund (American Express made good on it for me) and they refused to pay for my doctor visit ($160) where my doc said, yeah, you contracted norovirus, somebody in the kitchen didn't wash their hands after using the restroom." Also note that another customer posted a scathing review the same weekend as my original review - his party had also been food poisoned. Frankly, I'm sorry this place is still in business and they still owe me $160 for my doctor visit, where I provided them with the bill and their response was, "we want your entire medical history" Right. I am a big fan of their lunch menu. It comes with a soup, rice and dish of your choice. For snack you get crispy noodles which I really like. Their minced egg drop soup is really great. My favorite dish is sichuan style spicy fish fillets. The fillets are very well cooked, crispy and spicy. I do like their cumin chicken which is also very spicy. Stopped here today. Since it's the ginger garden I got ginger chicken with string beans, fried rice and egg drop soup. Ginger chicken was great and had fresh shreds of ginger in the sauce. Fried rice was very good as well, and not greasy. Egg drop soup was not oily, and you could taste the chicken broth. Wait staff was incredibly friendly, and brought many refills for my sweet ice tea. Came here specifically for their sushi offerings. Driving up, I wasn't sure what to expect. Located in a somewhat nondescript building on the edge of town--the outside gave little indication of the sleek, spacious, warm ambiance contained within. We were seated immediately and our server was kind, helpful, and accommodating. We sampled several of their rolls and were pleased as punch with every last one. Honest to Yelp...fantastic sushi is being served here. They also have a full bar with an array of inventive signature cocktails. I ordered more than one. A warning and a promise: Their cocktails are deliciously deceptive--they are strong, strong, STRONG. One cocktail in, and you begin to think two would be just the thing. Half way through number two, you think--it seems like a third would really cap off this entire culinary experience. I absolutely love this Restaurant. My Chinese boyfriend and I come here a lot and have always had a really good meal. Because he's Chinese he really enjoys this restaurant because they have very authentic Chinese food, unlike the Americanized Chinese crap you find everywhere else. Not all the food on the menu is authentic Chinese food so it can be tricky ordering but you will see where the Americanized Chinese food is on the menu and where the actual Chinese food is. The only downside is the food is a bit on the pricey side but at least it's really good quality. I would advise coming here to anyone who wants to have REAL Chinese food. :) UPDATE: This restaurant still has it! Came here for the Chinese New Year and had a very delicious meal. They've changed their menu so everything is in one menu now, before they used to have 2 different menus. One with authentic Chinese food options, and the other with more Americanized Chinese food. There was a hair in my food, I know it wasn't mine because my hair is nearly three feet long and my boyfriend is a redhead, this was white. Nevertheless, we still ate the food. Came here looking for some Asian food in the Valley and was feeling pretty ok about this place. Cute interior with nice bamboo displays and comfy couch-type seats. The host/waiters/busboys were all great and very considerate; our waiter was quite animated and friendly. Food was a-ok, but a good solid choice for Chinese food in Amherst. Portion sizes were all good, though one pork dish was a little small compared to our other dishes. We have been coming here at least once or twice a month since 2015. Food is consistently very good, portions are generous and reasonably priced, waiters are pleasant and efficient. A decent place to stop by and grab some Chinese food, but don't expect anything spectacular. My family went to celebrate a birthday, ordering some appetizers and a few main courses for all of us. The food wasn't really anything to write home about. The ribs that came with the pu-pu platter were red enough that I would suspect artificial coloring. The crab rangoon was the typical Chinese take-out type, which isn't necessarily a downside depending on your tastes. My main dish, the kung pao chicken, was greasy and underwhelming. It was slathered in a sweet and spicy sauce that wasn't especially spicy nor sweet. I also tried some of my sister's coral scallop dish, which had scallops deep fried and covered in some sort of red sauce. The fried shell was not particularly appetizing, and my sister ended up taking it off her scallops. Both were mediocre dishes that were decent enough to finish but not good enough to warrant trying again, in my opinion. Overall, I would say the Ginger Garden is worth eating if you want to call in for some quick Chinese take-out, but I don't think I will be dining in again any time soon. read more

Had lunch here today - Monday - April 30, 2018 shortly after 12:00 PM EST. A DISASTER to say the least. Will we return here for another meal? NOT LIKELY!!! So, what is going on with this food establishment? Lots of bad things!!! That is what is going on here. The staff does not seem happy or glad to be working there. They seem stressed and it shows. Management is to blame for this fact! Plenty of parking and the location is directly right on the main road, you cannot miss it. Good size place in need of re-decorating. The 1970's are no longer here and this place looks like the 1970's. Seriously? The bathrooms were clean with plenty of rushing and gushing water, but, it was COLD and NOT HOT water. The hand air drying system was incredible and could blow really hard. But, it was blowing COLD AIR. That is crazy, right? Okay, moving onto the food. The Won Ton Soup was served pretty hot in temperature, but, the broth was plain and did not leave much to be desired. The 2 on the small side Won Ton's in the Won Ton Soup were filled with about 1/10th of a small metal spoon with pork, very stingy to say the least. Come on people. Ground Pork is CHEAP in price, not expensive. The Won Ton itself without the Pork was okay to decent thickness and quality. The Fried Won Ton's served with the Duck Sauce were VERY LARGE, but, pretty greasy too. The Spring Roll could have been good, but, it too was on the greasy side as well. I specifically asked for Brown Rice, but, they gave me Pork Fried Rice, which was just some White Rice with 1 or 2 small pieces of Pork in there with a small amount of Soy Sauce added to it. Really? Sad but true. The Kung Pao Chicken had no punch or flavor to it. Bland, Bland, Bland!!! You do not just throw together some frozen "White Meat Chicken" that I asked for and put it in a Wok and throw some Soy Sauce in there with Thick Brown Gravy. It was NOT GOOD and only had a few peanuts and some old Green Scallion Long Stems in there. How about some Celery and some Chinese Herbs and Seasoning the way it is supposed to be done? And don't forget to singe the meat properly and not undercook or overcook it. This place is in need of a menu and quality facelift and that is being too kind. This food establishment is serving Chinese American Food to people who are NOT familiar with what real Authentic Chinese Style Food is supposed to taste like. We sure hope that these people will get their act together and serve some decent Authentic Chinese Style Food the way it is supposed to be served. You have been so advised. Absolutely the worst Chinese food i ever ate anywhere in the world. Ordered spicy eggplant in garlic sauce. Eggplant cooked nicely but totally flavorless and bland. The garlic sauce was brown, flavorless with 1 clove of raw garlic tossed in. No heat no flavor. As take out i added garlic powder, siracha and soy sauce. Will Never go there again!!! If you're me, you want a "light" lunch of sushi...with a big helping of pan fried dumplings on the side. Their lunch deals come with miso soup and ginger miso salad, and each table gets a serving of crispy wontons in duck sauce. That lunch was far too much food for me, so it was great to take home leftovers! The best thing I had (aside from dumplings which are always good) was the shrimp tempura roll, which came with tempura fried shrimp, lettuce, cucumbers and avocado. Yum! Be threatened after complain about the food: 1. We ordered the sea food hot pot, and found that it doesn't have the broccoli shown in the menu. So we talked with the waiter, who then sent a manager to us. 2. The manager apologized and said, due to their mistake, the dish is different than what the menu shows. So he will change the pic on the menu and won't charge us for this dish. 3. We kept eating, but another manager came to us and said we were taking advantage from the restaurant. She tried to pull us in her car and said "let me show you some other restaurant". 4. We felt our personal safety is threatened, so we wanted to leave. We were about to pay for the dishes regardless their rude treatment to us, but the second manager said we don't need to. She said she just wanted us to leave. It wasn't a pleasant experience, but we were just two girls and they have a large group of waiters, so we left the restaurant and called a uber. 5. The two managers ran out of the restaurant, came to our Uber, knocked the window loudly, and tried to stop the car. We were scared and asked the driver to drive. "You can't go anywhere! You need to stay!" A manager said to us. 6. Thanks to the Uber driver, we are safely home. I got take out and it was disgusting. The moo shu chicken was watery and smooshy and tasteless. The pancakes for the moo shi also seemed stale.
