Allagash white ale @ the bar...
    Mark G.

Hot n sour soup just right on a chilly night. Just enough Hot and the kimchi adds a little bitterness to the sour. Wings are very good and very messy. Ask for a whetted bar cloth (one bartender offers that...or maybe it's just for sloppy me.) The Allagash is a great wheat beer and the tulip glass is proper but also adds to the effect.

We had a fantastic meal at the Pearl recently, which is a great improvement over our last dinner there five or so years ago. I got the salmon salad which was playful and filling, with fresh and locally caught salmon. I always order my salmon medium rare, but in this case I forgot. To my delight, it wasn't destroyed and dry like New England so often likes to treat its poor fish. The dressing was slightly sweet, but had a nice complexity to its favor profile. Overall a very decent salmon salad to add my my growing count across the country. The winner of the meal however was the panko haddock (of course it was, why didn't I assume the haddock would take first out in these parts?!) the fish was perfectly cooked with a light batter that didn't detract from the flavor. It came with a great dipping sauce that was Mayo based, but only a distant cousin to tartar sauce. Knocking a star off because we had a pretty poor experience with service. We were seated outside and essentially forgotten about for more than half an hour before I finally went inside in search of water and our waitperson. The waitress was very apologetic. There was one table seated beside us and their waiter was very verbose. He came out probably four times while we waited to talk to his table. To be honest, I was more upset that he saw us sitting there that entire time and neither made contact with us nor gave his fellow waitress a heads up.

I can't believe it took me this long to visit Pearl but i'm glad I finally did. My mom and I came in with a reservation (once they reopened indoor seating). Our waiter Kaylin was so sweet and took great care of us. We ordered the crispy duck lettuce wraps for our appetizer, and we each got the special of the night, the cornmeal crusted mahi mahi tacos. everything was delicious. I'm super picky with fish tacos and I was very impressed with these. The flavors were spot on, from the house made tomatillo salsa to the mango slaw. Overall Pearl is a wonderful restaurant. The setting is modern yet intimate and would be perfect for a date night. Can't wait to come back next time I'm in town and bring my fiancé.

My boyfriend and I went to Pearl before skiing/snowboarding during Midnight Madness at Crotched Mountain to celebrate our anniversary. Since I made a reservation, we were able to get in exactly on time on a busy Saturday evening. We got oysters, crab cake and nems for appetizer, then the special mahi mahi and scallops for dinner. Everything was awesome; appetizer portions were a bit small but the dinner entree portions were perfect! We got the pain perdu and the gelato/sorbet sampler for dessert and I would order the pain perdu again and again. The gelato/sorbet sampler (with choice of 3) was a good portion but some flavors (burnt caramel and candy cane crunch) were a bit overpowering. Our server was amazing and did a great job keeping us happy and full on a busy night. We enjoyed almost everything and would definitely return!

One of my favorite places to eat. The food is ALWAYS perfect and the drinks good. It's an Asian type restaurant with a flare. Reservations are a must as this place is always busy. They always have a fresh selection of oysters, which we love. In the summer, you can sit outside. You won't be disappointed!

It is probably the best choice for Japanese/Panasian food in the area, and I do think they're doing the best they can while catering to local tastes. The sushi was decent, and I would eat it again-- though I thought that the rice could use a little bit more seasoning. The fish was well presented, which was good. I liked the green tobikko. Super cute! I would have liked if they had offered sweet potato sushi, since that's my mom's favorite. No biggie, though. The tempura was also pretty good. The vegetables were crispy and fresh. The batter was light, which was nice. The peanut dumplings were pretty meh. The sauce was thin and kind of bland, and the dumplings were nondescript. I wouldn't turn my nose up at them, but they could have used a little bit of ginger or something to give them some extra flavor. The house special was also decent. We had asked for it extra spicy, but it wasn't even a little bit spicy. I understand, though, because the kitchen doesn't necessarily want to blow the socks off of its customers. Although I respect that, it would have been nice if it had had a little kick, since the menu said it was hot. It was like typical sweet and sour chicken with some basil leaves. The chicken was crispy, though I thought it could be tossed more thoroughly in the sauce. Overall, I liked it! Thanks!

The food was fresh and well prepared but the "spicy" dishes (Spicy Dumplings with peanut sauce &…read moresome Thai Fusion Chicken with Basil & Pineapple) were extremely bland and flavorless. My dining companion got the Sushi appetizer and said it was decent. The vegetable tempura was very good, crisp and not at all greasy. The atmosphere is gray and dismal and there was a couple nearby who was bickering loudly the entire time which was distracting. The building has seen much better days. The service was great. They are doing the best they can but the place has a definite post-covid sadness mood so we wouldn't eat in, we would get takeout (maybe) in the future but I'm not sure we would bother going there again .

We tried the ogeat lemonade (very refreshing), miso carrots appetizer (both of us loved - very unique flavors), the spicy tantanmen (not too spicy/was just right for me), the lamb wontons (not our favorite - only 4 dumpling shaped wontons, flavors heavy on the lamb, might not be filling), and lastly, the brown butter ice cream (topped with pepper which was interesting! But very delicious). They were able to accommodate nut allergies easily and everything tasted amazing. The total came out to be about $35-$40 per person depending on tip. I got the spicy ramen and my partner got the chicken non spicy one, please refer to pics as I forgot the name... highly recommend getting the chicken ramen, the broth is light and savory, additionally lots of protein and veggies to make it the perfect ramen bowl. The spicy ramen was okay, I love spice but this one was a bit starchy as if too much starch was used to thicken the broth. The noodles were also way too soft; and there's very little protein. I got beansprout as an add on and that was $2; a bit much if added onto the bowl.

I was greeted by a very busy parking lot on that Saturday afternoon. Committed to waiting in line for my sweet treat, I was pleasantly surprised to see the crowds were massed around the take out window for food and not ice cream. Great for me but also made me wonder what I was missing out on. It would seem everyone was drawn to the seafood platters here which, had I had a hankering for, looked heaped with appetizing fried morsels. Alas, I diverted to the other set of windows. I was waited on right away after perusing the extensive list of flavors. I was hoping for Coffee Oreo but discovered they were out. Not to worry, they had plain 'ol coffee and I was on my way. A small serving was HUGE! I couldn't finish it all, even having worked up an appetite. The homemade ice cream was creamy and flavorful. Fairly standard though as ice cream goes but the ambiance and experience at the place maintains a higher star rating. Plenty of park benches and picnic tables sprinkle the property. Rolling fields and farmlands surround the establishment. Large parking lot. Ice cream, take out, dine in, and country store all available. I only experienced the ice cream so the rest will be left to my imagination. Fun stop post-hike.
