Fortunately we came on a Monday so were able to be seated but I could see how this place would be hard to get into on a weekend since seating inside is limited. We were fine with outdoor seating so were seated right away. Service was friendly and attentive. Our cocktails were amazing- great flavors without being too sweet and just the right amount of booze. We got the duck lettuce wraps and the Hanoi nem rolls for appetizers. I had the Thai noodles and my husband had the salmon. Both were delicious and we ate our entire plates! With my daughter when we have a special night out we get a variety of apps, the nems, crab cakes and oysters are my favorite, she goes for the Korean ribs and also loves the crab cakes. The Pearl is a popular restaurant in Peterborough, NH. Over the years we have been once or twice. When my husband and I had a date night we decided to visit The Pearl. Reservations are strongly recommended as the dining area is small. We went on a Wednesday night and almost all the tables were full. My husband had a martini and was pleased with the drink. We ordered a variety of oysters for an appetizer. They were fresh and flavorful. I loved the sauces they came with them. For our main meal my husband had crap cakes and I had make your own roll with ground chicken and peanut sauce. I'm going to be dreaming about this dish. The peanut sauce was amazing with just enough spice. The combination of chicken, sauce and veggies in a wrap were delicious. My husband enjoyed his crab cakes. The staff were prompt and friendly. Pearl is our favorite restaurant! The food is extraordinary - we have never had a bad meal, and the service is great. Our favorites include (but are not limited to) the duck confit, fall apart ribs and the nems for appetizers. For dinner, our go to meals are the spicy beef with noodles, pearl fried rice, and whatever the tuna tartare dish is. That is not to say that the crazy chicken or the chicken with lemongrass aren't delicious - they are. There is not one item on the menu that I wouldn't recommend. There are lots of shellfish options, which sadly we typically don't order due to allergies, but we have been told that the oysters are wonderful. We had an excellent dinner here thus evening. We sat in their small outside dining area-- we would have been uncomfortable indoors which was packed and noisy. The restaurant has a nice beer and wine list, reasonably priced. We began with the arugula and blueberry salad, which came with a light blueberry dressing and plenty of small toasted cashews. For main dishes, I had the cashew-chili crusted salmon salad -- the salmon was perfectly cooked, and the salad was crispy veggies (including more arugula), I liked the small sugar snap peas. My wife had the special, six scallops, sesame crusted with a tasty dressing sharp with wasabi, string potatoes and a delicious red-cabbage slaw. We had a fantastic meal at the Pearl recently, which is a great improvement over our last dinner there five or so years ago. I got the salmon salad which was playful and filling, with fresh and locally caught salmon. I always order my salmon medium rare, but in this case I forgot. To my delight, it wasn't destroyed and dry like New England so often likes to treat its poor fish. The dressing was slightly sweet, but had a nice complexity to its favor profile. Overall a very decent salmon salad to add my my growing count across the country. The winner of the meal however was the panko haddock (of course it was, why didn't I assume the haddock would take first out in these parts?!) the fish was perfectly cooked with a light batter that didn't detract from the flavor. It came with a great dipping sauce that was Mayo based, but only a distant cousin to tartar sauce. Knocking a star off because we had a pretty poor experience with service. We were seated outside and essentially forgotten about for more than half an hour before I finally went inside in search of water and our waitperson. The waitress was very apologetic. There was one table seated beside us and their waiter was very verbose. He came out probably four times while we waited to talk to his table. To be honest, I was more upset that he saw us sitting there that entire time and neither made contact with us nor gave his fellow waitress a heads up. read more

We ordered the crispy duck lettuce wraps for our appetizer, and we each got the special of the night, the cornmeal crusted mahi mahi tacos. everything was delicious. I'm super picky with fish tacos and I was very impressed with these. The flavors were spot on, from the house made tomatillo salsa to the mango slaw. Overall Pearl is a wonderful restaurant. My boyfriend and I went to Pearl before skiing/snowboarding during Midnight Madness at Crotched Mountain to celebrate our anniversary. Since I made a reservation, we were able to get in exactly on time on a busy Saturday evening. We got oysters, crab cake and nems for appetizer, then the special mahi mahi and scallops for dinner. Everything was awesome; appetizer portions were a bit small but the dinner entree portions were perfect! We got the pain perdu and the gelato/sorbet sampler for dessert and I would order the pain perdu again and again. The gelato/sorbet sampler (with choice of 3) was a good portion but some flavors (burnt caramel and candy cane crunch) were a bit overpowering. Made a reservation a week in advance for a table outside. Drove 55 minutes to meet a few friends for a going-away dinner only to be told by the hostess she seated someone at the last outdoor table just a few minutes ago. Explained that when we called we were told we had to make the reservation for 515 in order to sit outside, how could they make that mistake? The hostess didn't immediately apologize or try to make something work, just told us there was a table inside if we wanted it. Imagine driving almost an hour to be told - too bad. We got takeout, despite the situation, because someone in our party has dietary restrictions and the Pearl menu worked for them. No utensils provided. When we went back in to ask for some the hostess completely ignored us. Meals themselves were just okay. Six peices of tofu in the dish I ordered, mostly rice with a handful of vegetables. I understand everyone is short staffed, busy, overworked, but this place needs to do better. read more

Everything just worked: the server was excellent, made great recommendations for wine, the food was even better than I remembered. It was hard to choose what to order. If you're from out of town you might not expect to find such a great restaurant in a strip mall, but definitely try it out. I was so excited to have dinner at this restaurant. What a disappointment . My meal looked beautiful on the plate but it was lacking in taste and flavor. They put gluten free bread crumbs on my fish.....so gross! I tried to scrape the bread crumbs off hoping to salvage it but unfortunately it did not work. The rice was clumpy, chewy and not very flavorful. I took my meal home with me hoping one of my kids would appreciate it only to discover the waitress scraped the bread crumbs and some chewed up food that was one the side of my plate into the middle of my takeaway container on top of my uneaten food....again gross. While I have some favorites that I tend to order more often than not, let me add that I've never been disappointed by any of the meals that I thought I'd give a try. They provide good-sized portions, always have that "freshly prepared" look and taste to them, and--with all this in mind--their prices are reasonable. A great fun time! Trendy and upscale without any of the snobby pretense. Oh, and mighty tasty too!! First off, if you luck out and have Matt as your waiter/server, you won't be disappointed. He's knowledgeable, smart, witty and down to business! He helped us on our first visit find our way around the menu with lots of helpful hints. This place is one of the cheapest gourmet restaurants you can find considering they have a CIA trained chef, an excellent bartender and dedicated and smart staff. It blew our mind that they have Dogfish Head on tap and actually serve a beer under $4 (bud) a pint at an upscale and trendy joint!! The priciest cocktails run up to $9 and they make quite a few luscious varieties. The bartender seems to be a big gin fan and even though I HATE gin the Johnny's Martini my companion ordered was very delicious. We started off with the summer rolls and duck lettuce wraps -- YUM! The summer rolls were the last of the season and Matt quickly snagged the last order for us! The duck lettuce wraps were crispy duck with fresh crisp lettuce and a really tasty dip. Now the reason I give four stars and not five is all due to the entree my companion ordered. He ordered the crazy noodles, which he has typically liked at other restaurants, but this version was VERY heavy on the rice wine vinegar. The flavor was almost good but it was difficult to muscle past more than three forkfuls, because the vinegar was a bit too over powering and soured the stomach and he was understandably quite disappointed. I ordered the lemongrass chicken on the waiter's suggestion when he mentioned that it was also the restaurant's signature dish. I am not a big fan of lemongrass, but who can turn down the signature dish especially when so many other reviewers raved about it. It was seriously the best chicken dish I have ever had in my life! The chicken breast is carved off the bone but with the skin still on and a small wing bone left in. The chicken is marinated in the most savory/sweetish marinade with the faintest of lemongrass (you have to really try to pick it out) and then cooked until the skin is super crispy but the meat is super tender, juicy and not dry at all. This was served over some wilted greens on jasmine rice. Wow, was it amazingly delicious!! I cannot recommend this dish more emphatically! On the whole the waiter and service we experienced, the quality and tastiness of the drinks and most of the food won over the not-so-good entree. We will definitely try it again. We had a great time and did end up speaking with the diners next to us. A really fun place to go with a group or as a couple. If you live in southern NH you have to give this place a try!! read more

The fall off the bone ribs were excellent, and literally fell off the bone. The oysters were fine, with some nice little sauces to go with. On the other hand... the first salad we got was gritty, and mostly greens (pricey, dirty lettuce, but obviously local). Bartender whisked them away, and the replacement salad was not sandy, but not particularly interesting either. For $8 you expect more than two almonds. On to the Hanoi Nims. Way over seasoned with fish sauce. Was the exec chef not working that night? Same with the Crazy Chicken. Very salty, fishy, icky. We couldn't eat it, but the taste lingered for hours despite copious helpings of Altoids, which were curiously not strong enough to dispel the taste of something gone bad. read more
