Pho broth

I never had Pho Broth taste so gross ever in my life. It looked like black coffee and tasted like dog food I'm at a loss of words and was expecting something just okay. This lowered my expectations and it was a waste of time trying to get some real Vietnamese food truly do better please my stomach hurts tremendously

Had the best lunch experience I wasn't expecting due to the ratings but glad we decided to give it a shot. Enjoyed every single thing we ordered! Perfect flavor and seasoning :)

Our server was great. The staff lovely. Food tasted good and overall great experience. Few issues: I paid extra for brisket. Brisket that comes with Pho in most Vietnamese restaurants is a completely different type of brisket and it's cooked differently. This brisket was basically barbecued brisket that you would slice for a sandwich. It does not belong in Pho. Also, the beef broth was nowhere near being authentic, but the soup was still lovely. I completely understand the neighborhood that we're in and the type of clientele that they are serving, but just attach more flavor in the broth would make it a stand out.

I have ordered twice within the week and I have not been let down!! The other day I was craving a bún bowl and the one with tofu did not disappoint! It was tasty, filling yet light and has the perfect amount of ingredients. I will be ordering this again someday! Last night I ordered the wok fried cauliflower which has the most delightful flavor. It is sweet citrus flavor that is somewhat similar to orange chicken. I also ordered the famous wok tossed noodles with tofu. This is just as tasty as pad Thai but different at the same time. Lots of yummy ingredients that come together well. I also had their ginger beer which was very tasty as well! Overall this place is where it's at! I will be coming back and enjoying more on the menu!

One of my favorite Vietnamese spots to order from on my way home. Pros: -delicious and sizable portions -Friendly staff -real Vietnamese beer (as someone who is Vietnamese having a place that I can quickly and easily get items that are significant to me is important) -order for pick up Cons: -indoor seating is tight, I personally don't like being so close to other people -it's really dark at night (look, i'm not getting any younger and trying to read a menu in the dark is horrible) -the white guy (maybe the owner?) is nice and all but has no problem inserting himself into a conversation. Some people don't mind, but my wife and I already have some introverted tendencies and it just makes us uncomfortable. --on that note we just usually avoid dining in. That way we get our delicious food and can be in the privacy of our own home. -they allowed someone to eat indoors with their dog (that wasn't a service animal) there was plenty of outdoor seating and the dog owners even seemed a little apprehensive about being indoors. Look, I love my dogs and other animals - but in establishments where food is being served in an enclosed area it's gross.

Love Gingergrass and props to some new tasty items. The jackfruit, Vietnamese pizza, skewered mushrooms - all winners. Took our friends from Portland OR here and it was perfect. Sat outside, enjoyed food and beer.

I don't know why this place only has 3.5 stars! I love this restaurant. Their pork chop and chicken salad are my go-tos. I've eaten there a few times and thought service was great!

I've lived in the area for quite some time now and this is the first time I've been here and now I know why...Gingergrass is good, but did not have the authentic Vietnamese flavor that I am used to. Let me put it this way...Would you rather eat in Chinatown, Alhambra or go to Panda Express? OK, maybe that's an extreme, but I think you get the point. There is just so much more options within a 15 minute drive away. I guess we are spoiled a bit in LA when it comes to Vietnamese food; you just need to know where to go. Gingergrass is for those who haven't ventured outside of Silver Lake or don't want to brave the LA traffic, but still want to eat something Vietnamese. The meat in the pho was very tender. The broth wasn't as clear or potent, but had flavor to it. The bread for the Bahn mi was more of a nice, baguette in France and not the normal crusty roll. I will say the banana egg roll dessert was very good. Service 8/10 Bathroom 9/10 Ambiance 8/10 Cleanliness 8/10 (With an open kitchen, it should be spotless, even the floors) Food 8/10 Value 7/10 Will I Return? I'll drive the extra mile or so

Amazing food. The pho is so delicious. The soju cocktail is also something you have to try. There is always a wait here, but it's worth it.

What happened? The chicken pho used to be so good. My kids and I have been coming here for years. The pho was bland and the bowls are now smaller. Totally disappointed.

I don't know why....but I noticed it a few times i got the chicken pho. It was bland. They used to have 2 sizes now it's just the small one.

My dining mates that had the banh mi were also happy with their choices and the one that had the Spring Rolls felt it was sufficient enough to be a meal. Service was attentive and quick. Given the choice between inside and the patio we chose the patio which has be bit more vibe. Parking can be a bit of a challenge. There were allegedly no tables available so we were told to put our names down. We waited about 7-10 mins and were sat. We each ordered the House Pho since it seemed to be the most popular dish, as well as an order of Spring Rolls. The waiter who was attending to us repeated our order which was (2) bowls of House Pho, Spring Rolls, and (2) beverages. When the food came out we only received one of the Pho dishes and one beverage. We asked to follow up on our additional soup and beverage only to the waited to tell us that we had only ordered one soup dish and one drink. We were very confused since he had repeated the order to us before sending it to the kitchen. The soup itself was lukewarm and flavor of the broth wasn't necessarily extraordinary. Similar to what others have written, it lacked flavor and tasted watered down. Pho should be packed with flavor and hot. The quality of meat was okay, but don't think I'll be going back. I wish I had nicer things to say about this place, but everything was disappointing. TLDR; overhyped, lacks flavor, and overpriced.

I can't believe it's been 12 years--and I'm so happy to say it was every bit as incredible as I remembered. My friend and I came for lunch. I ordered the vegetable pho, and she had the curry rice. Both dishes were absolutely delicious--fresh, flavorful, comforting, and beautifully prepared. Honestly, I wish we had more time because we had another appointment downtown. I would have loved to try more dishes and definitely dessert! Our server was wonderful--friendly, attentive, and incredibly professional. He checked on us at just the right moments without ever feeling intrusive. The service was as impressive as the food. The restaurant has such a warm, relaxing atmosphere. I especially loved the beautiful ceramic water cups with bird designs--they were so unique and charming. Even the water tasted wonderful! I'm thrilled that Au Lac is still thriving after all these years. If anything, the food tasted even better than I remembered. I certainly won't wait another 12 years before coming back. In fact, I was so impressed that I convinced my husband to come with me next Saturday for dinner! I've tried many vegan restaurants over the years, and Au Lac remains my absolute favorite. My favorite on the Westside is Variable Café, but if you're willing to drive a little farther, Au Lac is on another level. I can't recommend this restaurant highly enough. Whether you're vegan or not, this place is truly outstanding. Five stars without hesitation!

She said the house salad was better the last time she came bc the lettuce was different. She recalled it was Romaine lettuce last time. This time it was a green salad. I had the lemongrass fish which was made of soybean. It was a little too dry and rubbery for me. I kept putting it in my soup with rice to make it taste better, but ran out of soup. I won't be ordering this dish again. I took half home, cut up the soybean fish and added it to a stew. I didn't mention to my server that it was my bday, but was disappointed that he didn't even offer like regular servers do, "Would you like to see the dessert menu?" I didn't tell him it was my bday nor did I ask for the dessert menu bc I wasn't the one paying the bill. Not that I needed dessert, but it would've been nice to have been asked. When I mentioned this to another server who came by to clear our table that our server didn't even ask if we wanted dessert and that the restaurant doesn't seem to want to push its desserts, he quickly brought us a dessert menu, but my friend was already paying our bill - too late! It would've been nice to be asked earlier. I even had candles in my bag just in case we got dessert. Anyway, this server said he'll tell our server about not offering dessert. The next day I came back with another friend after a Music Center event. My server from the day before recognized me. This time he asked us at the start before we ordered or after we had just ordered whether we'd like to see the dessert menu. Huh? Ask at the END not start of a meal! Instead of embarrassing him, I told him, "No, thanks. My bday was yesterday." On this second day, my friend and I shared a Chinoise salad (delicious and refreshing!) and paella (not like a paella, a little too wet and granular for our taste, but healthy - a living food dish). We had mint and lemon water for both meals. $12 parking in the adjacent structure. Free parking passes at the Music Center if you're a season ticket holder or good luck with finding street parking. I'd still continue to occasionally patronize this restaurant when I have Music Center events bc I want to support veganism, the restaurant; however, I was disappointed with some of the food and waitstaff this weekend. I'd suggest that the waitstaff go thru customer training on when/what/how to talk to customers. Incentive from the website: join the rewards plan - 300 points for 30% off the bill and 100 points for a free dessert! I'm aiming for the free dessert!!

It was a little before noon and there was only one party in the whole restaurant. We got seated right away and it was by the front window for everyone to see. The menu had a lot of options and priced like all other places or I'm just getting used to the prices these days. They did have a lunch special for $20 and you can get a small pho, and then some other choices and then a drink. I couldn't tell you what the other choices were because I didn't order it. The waitress was efficient and got the job done. She did get a little overwhelmed since after 1230pm, everyone decided to grab lunch. Here's what we ordered: lunch special with small bowl of beef pho, a beef banh mi and unsweetened black tea. The hubs said that his pho was decent, the flavor was simple and didn't have that deep rich flavoring like other pho bowls he has had. The banh mi had great bread and the filling was pretty flavorful. The black tea was good. I had the build your own pho because I have to have vegetable broth but I added in chicken meatballs and shrimp. The broth was pretty tasteless so I had to add in some hoisin sauce, and sriracha. There were other condiments but I was too lazy to grab it from the other table. That helped out with the soup. The chicken meatballs were questionable as in I wasn't sure if it was chicken. There were plenty of shrimp and they added pieces of chicken. The noodles had a nice chew to them. Overall the pho was okay but it didn't hit the pho craving/spot. We also ordered pork egg rolls and they were interesting. They weren't crunchy at all. It was a bit oily and at one point, I wasn't sure if a part of it was cooked. There was more other filling than meat. The nuoc mam tasted like watered down fish sauce. I guess I was so hungry that I didn't mind it. Overall, the food was just okay. Nothing exciting to report and unfortunately I wouldn't go back.

Each dish was colorful, had great presentation, and nice portions for the price. The pho we ordered was spicy level hot and did have well done broth and a good amount of sliced steak. The protein was tender, and the veggie toppings added great elements of minty crunch and herbal delight. I enjoyed my combination noodles. The bowl had a good mix of vegetables and a few types of protein ( chicken, pork, fried egg roll, and shrimp ) it was awesome! The spring rolls were terrific as well. The peanut sauce had some nut crumbles for texture which had subtle crunch with every spring role bite.
