I read online about how great this place is and how wonderful the service and especially good the biscuits and gravy is. We arrive and the line of folks waiting for seating is quite long and disorganized. Eventually someone comes out and tells everyone to all their name to the list of people that is accumulating. Hmm... this does not bode well. We wait about a half hour for our name to be called. When we are finally seating or drinks come promptly, but then we are forgotten for over 10 minutes. No one mentions them being out of anything. And of course, they're out of the one thing I want. Now I'm pissed. And I'm hearing they say its going to be about a 45 minute wait. We're starving. I should also mention, I am an VERY patient person. But as a basic standard, I do expect restaurant staff to communicate regarding delays and if they are out of things. Send help. I don't know if we are ever going to eat. Look for the skeletons setting toward the back of the restaurant. ‐‐----------------- Update: Upgrading from 1 star to 1.5 since we finally ate. The food was fine. I see why everything takes so long- way too much time on presentation for diner food. It was fine, but absolutely not worth the wait. Like at all. It was a chef salad, and a french toast not a work of art. These things should not involve a greater than one hour wait. And they forgot my salad dressing, so I had to track down the waitress to request it. Dear lord, help me. Cannot recommend.

This restaurant is hidden in a corner of a local mall. It was packed. We waited for 30 minutes to be served and no one took an order. Coffee was good. Local hang out. Me wearing Cal hat. Coincidence? Maybe. Ambience C+

Nice old school dinner style place with oldies but goodies playing. Food is a bit above average.

This is the 2nd time I've eaten at Gingers. Pros: Portions are large, food is good, and service was fast. I've only ever eaten their breakfast items, but I'm sure their lunch is also tasty. From experience, I can definitely recommend the skillets, steak and eggs, and the pancakes. Probably will be my go to spot for breakfast in Soldotna. Cons: Nothing really except for maybe the coffee. I'm used to the taste of Kaladi Brothers, so the coffee was just meh. Maybe it wasn't fresh ‍, but it was caffeine and warm, so it was still palatable.

THE GARBAGE OMELET with real Hollandaise and Sour Dough toast. A ton of eggs, perfect Hollandaise, cheeses, ham, sausage, bacon, mushrooms, spinach, green bell peppers, red bell peppers, and onions. Made for splitting. However big you think it is, it's BIGGER. PROBABLY THE BEST OMELET IN THE WORLD. Soldotna, Alaska. GINGER'S RESTAURANT. *****/*****.

This is a small cafe in a large shopping mall that has multiple entrances. You can't see it from the road or much of the large parking lot. The mall has a Sportsman Warehouse near it in the same parking lot. It does have an entrance near it but if you enter one of the other entrances just check the mall maps or ask a friendly local. I don't want you to miss this fine restaurant if you are hungry and in the area. We went there for breakfast prior to going fishing with a group of six. It was no problem for the friendly waitress to put two tables together to quickly seat us. Water and menus quickly followed and we all ordered different meals. I took pictures of some of the meals before my hungry companions destroyed them. The coffee and drinks came just after ordering and the meals all were served correct within 20 minutes. I was impressed because the restaurant was busy and with two waitresses and one cook the orders were served promptly with no errors. Son ordered the Chicken Fried Steak, home fries and two eggs. It was generous in size and he devoured it quickly. He said it was hot and excellent. My wife ordered the short stack of pancakes with fresh strawberries and ice cream. The ice cream was not on the menu but she has a fetish for ice cream on pancakes and waffles. She always asks and will change her order if they don't have the ice cream. One time when traveling we stopped for breakfast at a Waffle House restaurant and she wanted a waffle with ice cream and they didn't have it. I knew my day would be much better if she had her waffle. I told her to order and asked the waitress if I could get the ice cream would it be ok for her to put it on her waffle. I ran next door to a large gas station with a shop mart in it and bought a pint of ice cream out of their cold case and returned while the cook was preparing of meals. The waitress added the ice cream with a big smile and I tipped her very well. You may think I was crazy and a little overboard but I have been married to that same woman for over fifty years and any wife will appreciate the wild and crazy things you do for them whether large or small. Oops back the Gingers, the waitress was happy to add the ice cream to her pancakes with bacon and she was pleased. The pancakes were nicely browned with butter, whipped cream and of course two large scoops of vanilla ice cream and fresh strawberries. Check out the picture. I had the Eggs Benedict with an egg, ham slices, on an English Muffin with a smooth and creamy Hollandaise Sauce. I order home fries as my side. The sauce was excellent, the egg cooked perfectly and the ham tasty. The English Muffin was the only small disappointment but minor. It was tough to cut with the knife and had the appearance and texture of a muffin slightly warmed, white and not toasted. I am not an expert on how the muffin is supposed to be cooked but I like mine toasted to a light brown and slightly crunchy so you can cut it with your fork. Otherwise the home fries were browned, crispy and perfect. Seasoned well and delicious. The other three friends had various meals that I can't recall in detail but no that they devoured them all and were pleased with their meals. The service was efficient, attentive, friendly, and highly professional. I would recommend this restaurant highly for breakfast for small groups, families or anyone desiring good food. I clicked on my photos looking for the pictures that I took after the checkin photo which is posted and they weren't there. I don't know what happened but if I find them I will add them sorry.

The food was freaking amazing. The best chicken fried steak skillet I've ever eaten. The long wait for the food was worth it.

Between the food that makes you physically I'll and the $11 mimosas this is by far the worst sports grill I have ever been too. The chicken Cesar wrap was tolerable. The chowder was the consistency of lukewarm yogurt that's been left out on the kitchen counter. The Philly cheese steak sandwich tasted like they deep fried thin sliced spam and then dried it out on the sidewalk. The prices were a spit in the face for the quality of food we were given. If you want to punish your little league team for losing this is the place for you. The service was the only redeeming quality of this jersey covered circus. The waitress was nice enough and made pleasant small talk. The tacky, dust covered jersey's and beer signs are a good reminder as you walk to set the standard.

They didn't seem any busier than any other restaurant I've been to. I had the halibut bites and my daughter had the steak bites. The steak was mostly fat and cold. It was supposed to come with celery and carrot sticks. It had one tiny piece of each. We ordered clam chowder and mushrooms. The clam chowder had a weird sweet taste and was very watery. The mushrooms were ice cold as if they were still frozen when they were fried. The halibut tasted like it was cooked earlier in the day and reheated. For over $40 it was super disappointing. We were starving after so long a wait but two out of three of us only ate one bite and stopped. We ended up going to eat somewhere else after. This was $100 wasted.

Have lived and / or worked in Kenai for many years. Always wanted to try The Flats Bistro…read more Before the review, a little history about me. Like a lot of people, I started working in restaurants from the age of 15. I was fortunate enough to work up high enough to train as an Executive Chef. I also was a Server and Bartender as part of my training so I appreciate the work restaurant staff perform. I always tip very well, even when the food or drink delivery is slow because I know it isn't the Servers fault on most occasions. The review: so sad to write this review, but this is Truth! ....After waiting almost 1 hr and 10 minutes (we had a reservation), for the first time ever in my life, I paid for our drinks and left. The menu looked awesome, I was excited to try the food. But we should have known the minute we walked in when we weren't acknowledged that either management or crew training was lacking. We were early for our reservation and waited patiently to be recognized but that did not happen. We stepped up and let the two people know we were early and would be happy to sit at the bar to wait. The staff talked and then seated us at our two-top. To be fair, let me also mention that my wife has been a Server for the majority of her life in the US and Caribbean. We both love and appreciate what Servers persevere through. So, we are seated and water is poured immediately. Cool. Then quite a delay for a server for drinks. She shows up, takes the order but it is approximately 15 minutes before we get our drinks. I am looking around at this not so large place where a lot of personnel are moving but nothing seems coordinated. I notice an 8-top to my right that has drinks and appetizer plates (never saw food) sitting and looking around. They are my baseline.... So we finally get the glass of wine and beer and are asked if we are ready to order. We know the gig....order now! So we order the Caesar salad, Beets, and 1/2 dozen oysters as our appetizer and our two entrees, thinking that this will help. We wait patiently (the restaurant was perhaps 70% occupancy in the middle of prime Salmon fishing) but I defer back to the statement that although people were moving a lot... not a lot seemed to be happening. After one hour and 6 minutes, we received on additional water fill up and one beer. The 8-top still had not received food. The 4 guys to my right were telling jokes and passing time but no food or extra drinks. After both of us took bathroom breaks, we decided to leave. We went to the Hostess station (which may also be their cashout station?), and asked for our tab. Miraculously, as we were pulling out cash for our drinks, the Server walks out with my oysters and the salad. She recognized that we were paying out and stated the restaurant was "backed up with orders". Give me a f$&@&$@ break. Really!!!! We paid, went to my local standby at Louie's Backdoor, got a full order of Halibut Fish'nchips with piping hot delivery in about 7 minutes. I have never left a bad review. I typically try to praise both the quality of Service and food. Not so in this case. I will never step foot in this place again and will tell all locals not to waste their time. If I could leave a less than 1-star I would.
