We had a 5:45pm reservation on a Friday evening for 9 people. When we walked in, there was some confusion. It did seem like they had given our reservation to another party but they quickly fixed the mistake and got us a table. The waiter was very attentive and made sure that our drinks were always filled. He did let us know that thin crust pizza would take about 45 minutes and a deep dish pizza would take around an hour. So we decided to go ahead and throw in our pizza orders and appetizers. We got the stick dips and wings for appetizers. It came out super quick and was perfect timing between waiting for our pizza. Everything was great! The pizzas came out about 10 minutes after we finished our appetizers and it was perfect timing. We crushed the pizzas. When in Chicago, how can you miss out on deep-dish pizza? We found this old restaurant that opened in 1966, and everyone was very satisfied. I personally would give it an 8/10, but everyone else gave it a 10. Chicago Fire: The ultimate pizza with lots of cheese and tomato toppings, the first bite was incredibly satisfying. The entire pizza had only one Jalapeño pepper, the slight spiciness adding layers of flavor that was very pleasant. The only thing I wasn't used to was the thick crust; the layers were delicately flaky, but not crispy, instead powdery like a soft cookie. Besides the butter, it had no other flavor, and it felt cloying even at first bite. Legendary Hand-rolled Spinach Mozzarella Sticks: The crust was crispy, the filling was stringy, and the salsa was refreshing and helped cut through the richness. There is an ice cream shop on the lower floor which is a standalone business from the pizza shop itself. Wait time: Can be a bit long waiting for around 20-30 minutes outside and if you order deep dish 50+ minutes upon sitting down. Service: The server seemed sporadic and stressed from the tables he was having to wait on. There were multiple times where the wrong food was brought to our table or he brought drinks that were not ones that we ordered which did seem awkward. Got sat down and greeted right away and was advised of the current deep dish and thin crust order times. 40 to an hour for a deep dish pizza. We asked which pizzas to try and pointed out 2 and turns out you can split your pizza in half! So we tried the supreme and the Chicago fire pizza in a small deep dish. Our appetizer came out first, which was the spinach mozzarella sticks. These were super light with a thin crunchy exterior! Super yum and didn't feel heavy afterwards. Our pizza came out after 30-40ish minutes, didn't keep much attention to time since we were snacking on mozzarella sticks and playing Pokemon Go. The pizza was surprisingly also very light! The cheese is fantastic and toppings blended well in the pizza. The Chicago fire was a lot cheesier than the supreme, so I choose that one over the other. We ordered buffalo wings, mozzarella spinach cheese sticks, Caesar salad, cheesy fries, drinks, and both meat and veggie pizzas. Everything was fresh, flavorful, and worth the wait. The atmosphere was really fun and welcoming. One of the coolest parts was being able to write on the walls with chalk. The staff was friendly and the overall experience was great. I arrived around 12pm on a Tuesday with my two sons. This was about a 6 minute walk from my hotel. We were told wait in a line that would be 10-15 minutes. We were sat around 8 minutes later in the upstairs area. The waitress came over with waters after a few minutes. We ordered around 12:15pm. We all got the lunch mini deep dish special with fries and a drink. The fries came at 12:27pm and we are told it would be 7 more minutes for the pizza. The pizza came at 12:38pm. My sons enjoyed the pizza. It was pretty good but not the best pizza I've had. The cheese pull was impressive! I will note that it was very filling and the portion size of the fries was generous! Customer service was good, no complaints there. I wish they had a lunch special for the tavern style pizza as I wanted to try that but not get a whole one. This place has a lot of heart and cool decor but I'm not overall impressed with my experience here. We started off with the sticks and dips which came pretty quickly and tasted like your standard mozzarella stick and breadstick. We ordered a medium deep dish pizza with pepperoni that took an hour and a half to get to us. Our waiter did warn us that it would take around 45 minutes, which was fine, but we weren't under the impression it would take double that. There were several large parties of 10 or more that walked in, ordered their food, and received it before us. Absolutely unacceptable. This was, without question, the worst experience we've ever had at a Gino's East. From the moment we walked in, the service was a disaster. We stood at the host stand for several minutes before anyone even acknowledged us. The host was RUDE and at one point rolled his eyes at us only after he told us to stand in the corner. Also, probably taking the doo rag off your head would make it more "professional" I get it, it's a pizza joint, but he's the face of the restaurant and what to expect for the rest of the time. It was only my two daughters and husband and I. Once we were finally seated, we waited another 20 minutes before our server ever came to our table. After placing our order, we waited another 30 minutes for food, and even then, only part of our order arrived. The pizza was only okay--not worth the wait. Even worse, two people in our party never received their meals at all. Two people in our party had already finished the pizza as the rest of our order had been completely forgotten for the remaining 2. When we asked our server where the missing food was, he looked shocked, as if he had no idea there was still food outstanding. Meanwhile, the restaurant was filled with employees standing around talking while customers waited to be greeted, seated, served, and taken care of. This was a Tuesday at 4:00 p.m.--not a packed Friday night. There were empty booths throughout the restaurant, yet there was still a line at the host stand because no one seemed interested in doing their job. After waiting approximately 45 minutes, we had enough. We told our server to forget the meals that never came, remove them from the bill, and bring us the check. Two people in our party left hungry because the restaurant couldn't manage to deliver the food we ordered. This level of service is completely unacceptable for a well-known restaurant. Management seriously needs to take a hard look at how this location is being run. We wasted our time, our money, and our afternoon. We will never return to this Gino's East, and I would strongly recommend others choose a different location if they expect even basic customer service. read more

It's been a long time since I've been back in Chicago to get a deep dish pizza. It's great that you can order in the app and just go in for pick up. It was very quick and efficient. I knew exactly when my pizza was done. There was a little hiccup initially that said that the restaurant did not acknowledge the order however, luckily they put pizza in the oven and it was ready piping hot when I arrive for pick up. The pizza itself was just as I remember before delicious with a wonderful crust and top ingredients. I had three slices that night and had no regrets. The restaurant was awesome, decorated with graffiti and signatures on the walls, and cool patio bench booth seating. The server told us all deep dish pizzas are made fresh to order and take 60 minutes. Well worth the wait! We tried the vegan cheese on one of the pizzas which was good but not as good as the mozzarella. I loved the spinach mix topping which was creamy and garlicky. Before heading to Northwestern Hospital for my CAR-T cell therapy treatment, I told my partner, "Let's have Gino's East tonight before I begin treatment." It felt like a special meal before what will be at least a 10-day hospital stay. We ordered a deep-dish pizza and a Caprese pasta salad for carryout. When I placed the order, I specifically asked for everything we'd need to eat in the hospital: paper plates, forks, napkins, grated cheese, crushed red pepper, and the other usual carryout extras. I knew the restaurant would be busy and that my partner would be rushing back to the hospital, so I wanted to make sure everything was included. My partner picked up the order, chatted with one of the employees, was handed the bag, and walked back to the hospital. When he arrived, we discovered there were no plates, no utensils, no napkins, no cheese, no crushed red pepper--nothing. We had great food but no practical way to enjoy it. I ended up eating my Caprese pasta salad by slurping it out of the paper container, and we were trying to eat deep-dish pizza without plates. I called the restaurant to explain what happened. Instead of apologizing or trying to help, the employee asked, "Did you ask for it?" I told her I had specifically requested everything when I placed the order. Her response was, "I don't have time to read all the orders in full," and then she hung up on me. We tried calling back several times, and no one answered. Mistakes happen. Forgetting utensils or plates isn't the issue. What made this experience so disappointing was the complete lack of customer service, the dismissive attitude, and hanging up on a customer instead of simply apologizing and trying to make it right. I've always enjoyed Gino's East pizza, but after being treated this way on a day that was already emotionally significant as I prepared for cancer treatment, I expected much better. The rudeness was ABOVE AND BEYOND. SO RUDE Peter. My Partner went over to Gino's and made it right. They refunded the whole meal and gave us a gift card. That shouldn't have happened. read more

I will say that the deep dish was wonderful and if you haven't tried it, you must try it! It's definitely a stable of Chicago. The cheese and the pepperoni is at the bottom and the sauce is at the top. The salad was good and the wings were good size for the price. If you haven't tried it, you must stop in and try it. I had some trepidations today in going to my much anticipated dining experience at the most iconic Pizza restaurant in the downtown Chicago! Since higher the expectations the let down can be bigger. The restaurant was crowded since it's the most popular pizzeria in America and is the Saturday night tourists that know about the original Gino Deep Dish who all come to experience the most famous pizza. We ordered the large combo pizza that offer eight pieces. The wait time to our seating upstairs was zero but pizza took 45 minutes. Our salad was not impressive due to scarce ingredients and almost all lettuce and onions that were chopped unevenly and very few cherry tomatoes and strongly flavored vinaigrette house original salad dressing that was not very good. The beee was $9 per pint and served in cold mug with too much foam cap for our liking. The Original Pizza was good but not like used to be with delicious thick sausage and deep dish of cornmeal bread and massive amount of meat with delicious cheese. It was half of the original size and now the price is up to $41 plus extra ingredients for $45. Still solid four stars for the original recipe and still a good pizza but with tourists centric expensive offering that might disappoint some. read more

We had great service with Fatima T. We came to this place after they recommended it at our hotel. We skipped out on the Deep Dish pizza because we had it a couple of nights before. We started with the Calamari which crisp and not too chewy. We also shared the Gino's House Salad which was one of the better salads that I have had at a pizza joint in Chicago. For the main dish, we had a Tavern Style Cheese Pizza and Spaghetti Marinara with 2 extra servings of Meatballs. It was delicious. The atmosphere is a little dingy but that is the touristy vibe. The have "pseudo-graffiti" and brick walls to give it the city vibe. The wait can be long since this is a tourist spot.
