We ordered the Black Bullet party pack which comes with two pounds of brisket and two large sides. We went with fries and beans, and also added ribs, mac and cheese, and buns to the order. The brisket is still the star of the show. The spice rub on it is perfect, and it's so tender that it's unreal. The fries are exactly the kind of battered fries I like which was a pleasant surprise because I feel like not many places do them that way. The beans were okay... a little sweeter than I personally prefer, but they had huge chunks of pork in them that I definitely appreciated. We also added two slabs of ribs, and they fell right off the bone. I'm usually not a huge ribs person, but these were well cooked and flavorful. Mom loved them, and that's what really matters. We did have a few small issues with the order. We realized that our mac and cheese was unfortunately missing when we got home. They also ran out of pretzel buns midway through packing things up, so we ended up with a mix of pretzel and brioche buns instead. Honestly, we didn't mind that one too much because it gave us a chance to try both (I'd pick pretzel if I were you). When we picked up the order the place was absolutely packed, so it was hard to be upset over an honest mistake. They were clearly incredibly busy. I still don't really care for the sweeter sauce that tastes heavily like peppers to me, but their vinegar-based sauce (which I think is their original?) was much better than I remember. I'm glad to see this place is still around and still holds up after all this time. More importantly, the brisket is every bit as good as I remembered.

It was very dry, it almost made you want to choke thats how dry it was. The fries had TONS of seasoning. It was an overkill though. I couldn't even eat them because there was so much salt on them like 10x more than there should be. Same problem with the okra. The Mac and cheese was super weird. The only thing that was good was the Dr Pepper, garlic toast and the smoked turkey was ok. Maybe it's my fault for ordering later in the night, because nothing tasted fresh. The service was good, the guy working was friendly. Sad I wasted so much money though.

To be a little fair in this review, I did order from DoorDash for delivery. The delivery took an extremely long time so much. I had to complain about the DoorDash driver. However, the food quality was very poor. The brisket was tough. The chicken was a smaller portion than I thought. The okra was decent, but very salty. And the barbecue sauce was great so that was probably the best part, the spicy was extremely spicy though. I also ordered the side of mac & cheese. I've had better mac & cheese, many other places, but it was OK. It also came with a side of toast, but that wasn't anything to write home about. If you're looking for good barbecue, there's so many other places that have better barbecue than a place that has barbecue title such as dickies. I do have to say the dickies barbecue in Texas at most locations are 10 times better.

We thought we would have to wait till we drove to Chicago for good food. This place is welcoming, charming and modern. I ordered the sea bass with vodka pasta and my husband the lamb lollipop with roasted potatos. Both were 10/10. We are very picky and self proclaimed foodies. For dessert we shared the tiramisu. It was good. 9/10 for small size and a tiny bit dry. The flavors were well balanced though. We sat on the Fiori side but had a choice of sitting on either side and can order from both menus. What a great concept.

Their standard menu does not feature their vegan options, so we had to wait for the waitress to come back around again to ask for this. Unfortunately, the Vegan Chicken Breast was crossed off, so I'm not sure if that will be coming back. I went with the Vegan Reuben, a reliable standard, but it was terribly disappointing. It prompted me to pull up my photos from our previous dining experience there, and the sandwich looks so much more unappetizing. The current sandwich is wet, pale, and oddly sweet. The color and texture are so different, so I'm not sure what they've changed from their original recipe.

To get there from DeKalb by air, I had to dog-leg the flight over Cushing Field (to stay out of the Aurora and Lockport airspace) and then head east from there. Important note for pilots: If you are landing, try to make it to 9/27, or you'll have a long taxi up to the terminal where the restaurant is at. Once you are there (by AIR), you'll go to the far left end of the big building (you can see the beer signs in the window). Make sure you remember the CTAF (you'll need it to get back on the airport), and go through the gate, go up the elevator, and walk into the restaurant. Ambiance-wise, this place has large windows, a very large bar, a Namco Ms. Pac Man / Galaga game, bathrooms that are reasonably clean, some gambling machines, and decent food. I ordered their Pulled Pork Sandwich, which came with french fries. My wife ordered the Pulled Pork Plate, which came with cole slaw, garlic toast (2 pieces) and a green bean caserole. I ordered the pulled Pork Sandwich, and I ordered it spicy. It was not spicy by any definition. The amount of barbeque sauce provided was around a 1/2 of a shot glass. It was not enough. With that said, the barbeque was dry and needed the barbeque sauce. The fries were nice and fresh. My wife had the Pulled Pork Dinner. I sampled her cole slaw (with paprika, very good) and the green bean casserole - which seemed to use canned green beans, ugh. Very soft, the mouth feel was b l a h. Service was solid. We were greeted (walk in, no sign, sit where you want), and helpful. The food just wasn't as good as other barbeque places.
