Yes yes yes Giorgino's lives up to the hyphy rating! After some meetings in this area it was a no brainer to give this place a shot--- After chatting with the super friendly staff who helped us make our selections we had: Chicken philly: 5 stars--- those chain steak places need to take notes from Giorgino's on how to make a sandwich: awesome portion size, tender meat, balanced fixings, with fresh bread! Arguably one of the best chicken Philly sandwiches I have ever tasted. I ate that sandwich like it stole something! Italian sandwich - 4 stars :). first time trying this place, on the whim too, and its easily a 10/10 for me. had a random Philly cheesesteak craving and this place is great for it. I called in my order, got here 10-12 mins later, pick up and paying was EASY, the lady at the register was a sweetheart, & food was HOTT just how i like it. I got the Works cheesesteak that has green bell pep, grilled onions & mushrooms.. very delicious. i like ALL that stuff in my philly so don't come for me + they use white american cheese & it's super good. I really don't know how to start but I was highly disappointed with the food and the "garlic French fries" that lacked the garlic luster. Ordered the sandwich with chimichurri sauce (sauce meh) the steak good. Just watch the mushroom:meat ratio. More mushroom than meat is just an easy way to put less meat. I was really excited about the garlic fries and I just got plain fries. Won't be going back. Reviews are not worth the hype read more

No it's not open as it's written on you're yelp page. Crossing the whole city to come to this supposed open restaurant to see a little sign on the door " open back on Tuesday " is it so hard to change the hours of operation on google and yelp ? Ordered here several times due to the convenience of location. Very greasy cheesesteaks. I don't feel it's worth the price. Service isn't great and very disorganized. Yeah, these subs/cheesesteak sandwiches are good. BUT, they're not like Philly or NY. But, for CA, and especially San Diego, they're very good. I practically grew up on these type of sandwiches as a kid in NYC, and have had my share of grinders, heros, etc. So, I guess I can safely say I know cheesesteaks. I'm used to my peppers and onions getting grilled. I'm used to more cheese. I'm used to more meat. My chicken with the works didn't have it. Bread was good. Maybe next time, if/when there's a next time, I'll ask for my bread to be toasted,for a little texture to help absorb the liquid, so the bread doesn't get so soggy. But, for the price of $8-9 these days, it ain't bad. read more

I decided to try this place for two reasons, the outstanding reviews and the fact that I love Cheese steaks. I placed my order in and I loved how this place gives you choices of cheese, but also ask for extra American cheese...trust me! It melts so good. My cheese steak was a very decent size, along with the dill pickle I ordered. The bread was soft, steak was tender and juicy, and the cheese was super gooey. Add the onions with it and it was perfection. I had to take the order to go, because of Covid of course, but they have an option of outdoor seating. It's a great choice if you need a quick lunch, or if you're just out and about and get hungry. 10/10 read more

So I ordered off grubhub. The food is amazing. -1 star for order accuracy and paper in the steak meat. I work in a restaurant. Things happen. I wont hold it against them from eating here in the future. So I ordered the mush steak sub whiz, garlic cheez fries, meatball sandwich, a side of hot peppers, a side of ranch, a side of Ryan's raging ranch, and a burger for my kid in case he didn't like the meatball sandwich he asked for. The cheesesteak sandwich was awesome aside from a few bit of paper from what I can only assume was the paper lining to separate the meat easily. Im not entirely ok with this. However the taste and quality and quantity of the meat makes up for it so - .5. I will definitely order this again cause things happen. It was cheesy, salty(not too salty), beefy and melted in my mouth. The roll was perfect, looked felt and tasted like an authentic amoroso roll. I can only assume they ship these in from Philly. I added hot peppers I ordered from them too. Epic flavors. Thank you. The Garlic Cheez fries...... - .5 These came as just garlic fries. No cheez whiz to be found anywhere. Not in the bag, not on the fries. As far as normal garlic fries go though these have to be some of the better garlic fries I've had. Tried them with the normal ranch they have and the Ryan's raging ranch. The normal ranch is good. The Ryan's raging ranch takes away from the fries. It is too vinegary and overpowers the garlic. However by itself its kinda awesome. My kid seems to like the regular fries. I took a small bite of of the meatball sandwich. The marinara they use is pretty good. I dont like tomato based sauces other than ketchup so thats a win for these guys. The meatballs are pretty big and the parm is pretty good. No verdict on the burger yet cause I'm still waiting for him to try the meatball sandwich. All in all this is a definite order again. I'll probably pick it up myself next time though. Nice to find a place I dont have to travel to San Marcos for a good cheesesteak. read more

This is the place for the most tastiest cheesesteaks in San Diego! They have a wide selection of cheesesteaks (steak or chicken), hot sandwiches, cold sandwiches, pork sandwiches, & sides. Customer service was friendly! Bell Steak (green bell peppers, grilled onions, white American cheese): Omg, give me more! The key to their cheesesteaks are the rolls! Quite surprised by this little place. Discovered on a Postmate run, and just had to try it. We ordered The Works Steak sandwich and it was very delicious! Sandwich came out steaming hot with lots of melted cheese! I only wish they had jalapeños to add instead of cherry poppers? We also got the garlic fries. They just had the seasoning on them. I am used to having garlic fries with some type of oil and real garlic, but these made the perfect side dish. We will for sure be back! read more

For being very simple, it was incredibly delicious. The service was great, the woman running the counter was really polite and friendly, and the food came very quick! We ordered inside, waited outside, got paged for the food, and then ate on the park bench nearby. The food - we tried the Spuds and the Choripan. Both were incredibly flavorful and a lot of food. The Choripan was a spicy sausage with a strong chimichurri sauce, and the Spuds was a ham roll that fills you up quick. I also ordered an unsweet iced tea - it was freshly brewed and strong, definitely worth noting here. I wish we had more time around the area to try more of the menu! My 3rd time in 5 weeks! The chicken works couldn't be missed again and its still the ultimate cheesesteak....best ever. We tried the Gaby which is steak, chimichurri and cheese...an absolute explosion of garlicky goodness and fresh cilantro parsley perfection. We were searching for a new joint to hit up. Our group was craving a good sandwich and Yelp helped us find Giorgino's. When a business proclaims they are the best at something, they set their customers up with high expectations. Our group arrived for dinner between 6:00 - 7:00pm on Friday. The place wasn't difficult to find and we were fortunate to find parking upon arrival. Place wasn't packed and there was plenty of seating. There was one customer ahead of us as we browsed the menu. Server was friendly and ended up ordering: Frings, a Reuben, Bell Steak, a Gaby Dog, and drinks. Our food arrived in a timely manner. I have to say that the Philly cheesesteak was pretty good. I can't give it the title of being the best until I try more Phillys from other places around San Diego. The Gaby dog was good also, but it had too much mayo, mustard, and ketchup. Next time I'll tell them to go easy on the condiments. My buddy JP thought the Reuben was just okay. He said Big Thyme's Reuben is way better. Frings were pretty much standard. Of course I used the Yelp check in and got a 10% discount. 4 / 5 - Food 4 / 5 - Service 4 / 5 - Decor & cleanliness I'd return to check out more of their offerings. read more

Sooooo much to choose from! But since it was my first time here, and I have driven by a zillion times, I went for their signature cheesesteak! Very very tasty! Grilled onions and melted cheese....delicious! The partner had the chicken pesto which he said was really good as well! I can't wait to come back and try that! They have beer and wine and soft drinks. Dining room is pleasant and it can get a little loud. The workers were very friendly and check on us as we ate. Again, a great little place near my hood that I have overlooked. Street parking and those annoying bike racks across the street taking up at least three spaces. Super Mediocre Food with Low Value. Ordered to go here last week, 2 sandwiches & fries. First of all sandwiches averaged $12 - which if really good, might have been worth it. My wife liked hers, I had the Mushroom Cheesesteak and definitely not impressed. On my most recent trip to San Diego, I happened to drive by Giorgino's looking for parking for the nearby Starbucks. I saw Tasty Kakes and thought that was interesting, since it's kind of a Philly thing and you don't see it too often on the West Coast. With a bold statement as "Best Cheesesteaks," it's daring to be challenged. Unfortunately, on my first pass, I already had dinner plans and was afraid I would not be able to chow down on San Diego's "Best Cheesesteak." However, on the last day of the trip, my flight got delayed and I had ample time to grab lunch and hit Cabrillo National Monument for the afternoon... and damned it all if I didn't just magically happen to drive past Giorgino's! I walk in pretty casual an hour before what I imagine is the normal lunch rush. A few workers were ahead of me and two tables were seated, and the staff were working on the orders. I line up, look at the menu, and see the Works. Done. Mushrooms, bell peppers, onions, steak, and melted cheese. This is all I need. Cash is king here as you get a discount, so definitely take advantage of that. Also, free soda if you get an order of fries. The cashier was super friendly, and the food came out quick. I decided to take the cheesesteak out to Cabrillo for the view. It's just like Philly. Thank you for doing it right Giorgino's. I'm coming back here next time I'm in SD. read more

Update** Mario was very concerned with my experience and did everything in his power to accommodate for me! The night I came in there were some new employees so I understand the confusion with my order. I really appreciate Mario's concern and I highly recommend this establishment to anyone looking for some delicious cheesesteaks! I was very disappointed with my experience tonight. Me and my boyfriend came in at 940 and I asked if it was too late to order and she said no but I wish she would've said yes because if they did not want to make my food then I gladly would've went somewhere else. My sandwich had only turkey and cheese and nothing else of it and my "garlic cheese fries" were just French fries with a little garlic, no cheese or an. This response doesn't take ownership of the issue that people can have in the future that I experienced. Fix the options don't just tell me to order something else. I will not be returning especially because of the response to this review. I totally understand being a small business and I support all of them in the area. That being said being a small business it gives you the ability to adjust your practices if the customer has a terrible experience. I also ate the cold French fries right when I got in my car from walking out of your establishment so thank you for trying to blame me for your mistake. Super disappointing. Next time responding to a honest review I would advise owning the mistakes of your establishment and employees instead of placing blame on the customer. read more

Spending time with relatives from both sides of the family gave Mario the opportunity to learn about food from each of them. Being lucky enough to have traveled to Mexico as well as Argentina and soak in the culture, sights, smells and tastes has helped fuel Mario's love for food. After 9 years in retail management, Mario decided that the corporate world was no longer for him. So he bid the king of big box business farewell and began searching for a totally different work environment. Always passionate about cooking and the power food has to bring people together, Mario took on a job at Giorgino's. He worked with the owner, a New Jersey native, learning the ins and outs of the business. Soon after he started working there the owner decided to move back to New Jersey. This place has become one of my absolute favorite hidden gems in San Diego. Easily top five for me, and as someone who dines out a lot for a living, that is not a casual statement. There are places you like, places you recommend, and then there are places that start to feel woven into your actual life. Carbon Angela's Kitchen is that for me. Angela is truly the heart of this place. She has this way of making you feel like you are not just coming in for dinner, but being welcomed into something she deeply cares about. And Emanuele is absolutely part of that magic too. Together, they have built something that feels warm, generous, soulful, and so special. They feel like long-lost friends and family now, and I am honestly just so proud of them and all they are creating. The food is the kind that makes you want to order with the whole table in mind. The griglia mista is hands down one of the best investments you can make if you are dining with a group. It is the meat platter, it is the moment, and it is absolutely worth ordering. Four to five people can split it, especially if you are also doing appetizers, salad, wine, and a few extra things for the table. It is such a perfect nod to what Carbon was before Angela took over, when the space leaned more BBQ, but now it feels beautifully married with Angela's warmth, Italian influence, and the kind of hospitality that makes the whole meal feel like an experience. And please do not sleep on the rest of the menu. The short rib is fire. The arancino trio is always a yes. The eggplant croquette? Obsessed. The crespelle? So good. The Everything Salad is my favorite salad on the menu, and the street corn should never, under any circumstances, be skipped. I said what I said. The wine selection is top tier, the appetizers are memorable, and the whole place has that rare magic of feeling cozy, intentional, and completely unpretentious. You can come for a low-key dinner, a girls' night, a celebration, or one of those "we just need a really good meal and a really good glass of wine" kind of evenings. And the back patio? Perfect for an evening under twinkling lights. It is one of those spaces that just begs for a long table, good conversation, clinking glasses, and the kind of night that accidentally turns into a core memory. They also have catering menus available, which is very important information to keep in your back pocket if you are hosting anything soon. What Angela has built is honestly something to behold. They make their pasta fresh (be sure to include your pasta texture preference when ordering (Al Dente or Softer, etc.) We were greeted by Angela (the owner) and she made us feel welcome (as if we were dining over a friend's home which I absolutely loved). She started us off with some fresh baked Focaccia which had herb + cheese baked into the top (of course it was delicious). We added an appetizer called Crespelle which was a really yummy spin on a Manicotti made the right way (with a Crespelle). The salad was fresh and tasty. We order the Rigatoni Sugo which has a Tomato based sauce and assorted meats (Meatballs, Sausage, Cubes of meat) and was delicious along with the meats as well. We also added the Picanha Steak Entree with the Brie Fondue and that was so different while being soooo yummy. We enjoyed some wine with our meal and we finished with this really delicious Bavarian Cream Filled Napoleon with a Berry Coulis (desserts do change so check with restaurant to see what they have available the day you want to visit).. We can't wait to come back and try their Grigliata Mista (Meat Feast for 3-4 people).

Overall, I will say that I will be back for Drinks and if we decide to have a meal here, I would definitely get the Caesar salad the onion on red wine side and the banana foster. The steak was good, just not great I would be willing to try a different cut or protein. For the pricetag, I would've expected everything to be great, which is why four.

Don't know how this place has so many good reviews because my experience there was not good. My coworker and I went here on our lunch break and I ordered the Buffalo and bleu cheese sandwich and asked for the bleu cheese on the side, and the lady told me she couldn't do that and if I wanted bleu cheese I would have to pay for a side of it for 75 cents so I opted out and figured ok I'll just take it on the sandwich. Next I get the sandwich and there is no buffalo sauce on it so I ask one of the employees for a side of Buffalo sauce and he says ok. I wait for literally 10 minutes and no buffalo sauce so I ask him again for the Buffalo sauce and he tells me he's working on it..So at this point I wait another 5 minutes and still no sauce so I decide to eat my sandwich and never go back to this place. On my way out the manager asked me how my experience was and I told her I asked her employee for a side of Buffalo sauce twice and he never brought it and she said ohhh it's 75 cents that's why. I said He told me he was bringing it too me and she just kept repeating oh that's 75 cents I said ok first of all I ordered a buffalo chicken sandwich it came with no buffalo that means you owe it to me and secondly how do you know I didn't want to pay for the side of Buffalo.?? She had no response.. I would not recommend this place to anyone and will be sure to tell everyone I know not to go here.! I ordered 2 sandwiches and my total was $17. And that was with the 5% discount, since I paid cash. Nothing wrong with the price if you're getting a premium sandwich. Thats a restaurant price, even though is not a restaurant, more like a fast food place. Based on the decor and the fact that you have to walk to the register to place your order. Well I assumed since it wasn't a restaurant but they charge like one, the quality must compensate and would be premium. Also I assumed that based on their reviews. I guess I either have very high standards or people don't know what good food is around here. My chimichurri sandwich was the worst steak sandwich I have ever had!! The chimichurri was essentially pesto, and the steak incredibly thin, almost like roast beef. And super dry!! The bread was cheap and soggy. Rather than a mini baguette which is crunchy on the outside. What should be used on thirst types of sandwiches. My girlfriends chicken sandwich was almost ground chicken, had more onions than chicken. Honestly, the steak sandwiches from the food court at the mall are better. At least they give you real steak, sliced grilled chicken, and fresh baguette bread. read more

Giorgino's is one of those classic little hole-in-the-wall spots that locals appreciate for its simplicity and consistency. Tucked away in the South Park/Golden Hill area, it offers a solid cheesesteak experience and super friendly service. It's not trying to be fancy--it's just doing what it does well. The cheesesteaks are definitely the standout here. They use an Almarosa roll, which is impressively fresh--soft, tender, and holds up beautifully with all the fillings. The bread alone makes a difference in every bite. Meats are cooked right, and the portioning feels generous without being over the top. As for the atmosphere, it's... fine. Nothing wrong with it, but also not the kind of place you'd linger. The space feels a bit rundown--functional more than inviting. It's the kind of place you stop in for a quick bite or grab your order to-go rather than hang around with a couple drinks. There's no frills, and frankly, it doesn't need to be. Overall, I enjoyed my visit. I'd rate it a solid 4 out of 5. This sandwich shop has so much going for it. The ingredients are top-notch - the cheese is perfectly melted, the flavors are fantastic, and the meat is tender and well-seasoned. They really nail the balance of meat, veggies, and cheese in terms of taste. However, there's one glaring issue that's been a recurring problem lately: the meat-to-bread ratio. It's simply unacceptable. I've encountered multiple sandwiches where the meat is sparse, unevenly distributed, and sometimes even thinner than cheesecloth! If I was paying $8 I would be ok with this, but at nearly $16 with tax, it feels like a rip-off. For that kind of money, I expect a generously filled sandwich. It's a shame because I truly prefer supporting local businesses like this one over chains like Jersey Mike's. While Jersey Mike's might not be quite as flavorful, they at least provide a satisfying amount of ingredients for the price. If this trend of skimpy sandwiches continues, I'll unfortunately have to take my business elsewhere. I hope the owners address this issue, as I genuinely want to see this place succeed. read more

I had a cheesesteak remembering the driving up from DC to Philly on a road trip just for a cheesesteak actually at one of THE major cheesesteak places. Was this... did it measure-up? Yes! Who would have thought? It is simply the best cheesesteak I have had in years of what was turning out to be a hopeless endeavor of a quest to find a real cheesesteak outside of Philly. The price is right. I keep bringing my tuff to please foodie buddies and they go nutz over ever thing. I dare you go and try to find better any where except PA. I love the diner feel. It looks fresh. It IS fresh. And leaving you'll putting in an extra tip. (If you just ask for water they will give you a big tall glass for it and not some wimpy I'm drinking water because I'm cheep little styrofoam cup.) Have a beer with it too. The combo of beer with a cheesesteak is a match made in heaven. You'll be back! Oh yeah! read more

This place has by far the best Cheesesteak you can get anywhere on the west coast. It is amazing to me that not only are the cheesesteaks great but everything I have eaten there is top quality, utterly delicious, and at an excellent price. The staff there is always polite and very funny they will keep you coming back if the food doesn't (which it will)! For being such a small facility their menu is extensive. You will almost not mind that there is no beer. If you're from the east coast and looking for something to bring you back or you're just looking for some great feal good food you have to come check out this hidden gem known as Giorgino's. read more

Cute place, very East coast vib. The people there kind of remind me of the guys in the pizza place in the film Moonstruck, if you ever saw that. I've been there about 4 times either for the cheesesteak or a pasta, both quite good. A bit too fawning to the Philly style to have those Tastycakes, which are crappy and who eats them anyway? In summary, nice joint in a good neighborhood, sure beats the "Big Top Pizza" that was there in the '80 and '90s. A point off for that scam of charging an extra 50 cents to use a charge card, which I think is illegal, and for the short hours in the evening. read more

If you're in San Diego and craving a Philly cheesesteak, Giorgino's is the place to be! I had "The Works" cheesesteak with jalapeños and cheese whiz, and oh man, it was perfect. The steak was tender, the cheese whiz was gooey and cheesy in all the right ways, and the jalapeños gave it that perfect spicy kick. Plus, the roll was soft but held everything together! The vibe is chill and casual. The staff is friendly and food comes out quickly. If you're a cheesesteak fan, you need to try this place. I'll definitely be back for another bite! read more

When they say "best cheesesteaks in town" they MEAN it! We were definitely not disappointed! I was very surprised at the size of the sandwich and the big basket of fries! I ate every bite, although I think half of the cheesesteak sandwich and 1 order of fries is enough to split between two people. We will certainly come back often to sample the other things on the menu. We were very impressed with the service, the environment and the food! Great job! 5 stars out of 5 from us! If you love grease, you will love this place! My wife and I ordered from here twice and got food to go. They gave us a quick pick-up time so I know it didn't sit for long. Both times and both of our orders, the buns were just drenched in grease. I'm a big guy and I don't mind a little fattiness, but this place is ridiculous! The fries are good, but again, if you get onion rings, they might be dripping with grease! read more

Best Cheesesteak around! always get the works which is the perfect combo of cheese meat mushroom surround in warm flaky perfectly crisp bread. I've tried their wings,chili, onion rings, pasta, salads and sides. Everything is always great. Plus their staff is very friendly. This place is known for cheese steaks but they got other good items on the menu. I tried the gaby dog (2 bacon wrapped hot dogs) in a roll w/ mayo must ket. tomato and onions.. I dont like onions as much and they kindly substituted mushroom to my liking! Friendly workers and good food.. Cant go wrong with that! :) Chicken tenders are good to snack on too! read more

Giorgio's is the name of greatness. I came to know about this place by a friend of mine at work. I was told about the place which convinced me to visit. The food is great here as well as service is fantastic. The staff is friendly and helpful. The cheesestakes were great. I would definitely visit again to experience this place in detail. read more

Im from Boston, so, I now cheese steak..This place is pretty good but def not spot on east coast style.But it is one of the better ones out here.I will say this there are two places within 2 miles that are dead on real east coast cheese steaks..I don't want to say them on here though..one is a bar downtown and one is in north park.. read more

This place is consistent in their excellent quality of meat they use not a single piece of fat like other places. The roll & veggies are a perfect compliment to make this the BEST cheesesteaks in the county! If they had a French Dip on the menu it too would be the best I'm sure! read more
