Overall, the food was pretty good. The only criticism I have is that the mushrooms in the cheesesteak were a little too rubbery. I don't believe they toasted the bread here so the meat and the bread ran together which can be good or bad based on your preference. I'm from Philadelphia and these are best in the city. Using Amoroso Rolls use to be made in Philadelphia which make a difference at least to me. They have other Philadelphia favorites like pork roll and tastycakes. We have their hoagies and tried their variations of cheesesteak. This is a regular on our takeout nights. read more

Had the 12" Philly Cheese Steak with Cheesewiz which was great. Good quality meat and bread and thought it was the best I've had so far (I'm from San Diego and haven't been to Philly). I love a place where the quality of the food is inversely related to the ambiance. Such is the case with Giorgino's, the hole in the South Park hole in the wall that serves up very respectable Philly-style cheese steaks. Let's get this out of the way: No, the cheese steaks here are not identical to Pat's or Tony Luke's or Geno's or even Dalessandro's--but ya know what? None of them are like each other, either! I think it's hard to duplicate the Amoroso the way you find them in south Philly. Maybe it's something in the water, but the San Diego Amoroso is just a tad off, not in a bad way, but just not identical. That being said, Giorgino's comes about as close as anyone to perfecting the cheese steak as I've encountered yet and the Amoroso is exceptional. When in Philly, I always order wit, but don't feel whiz is necessary--or even an important element of the cheese steak. In fact, I love the white American cheese used by Giorgino's! It's equally tangy, but without the neon orange glow. For whiz lovers, don't worry, they have that, too! Giorgino's beef was delicious, but was chopped a little more finely than Im used to--not a complaint. Texture was great. Tender and seasoned perfectly. No gristle or stringy texture sometimes stumbled upon back east. Would love to see what the beef looks like before it hits the grill. One thing I love about Pat's is seeing the raw beef being griddled. Not possible here. So, the ambiance... I found nothing charming or quaint about the interior of Giorgino's. It just seemed so uninviting for some reason--lacking in character, I'd say. I love a hole in the wall as much as the next guy, but this just isn't a place I'm gonna get in my car and drive to. Yeah, if I lived in South Park, I'd walk there for a quick bite (because the sandwich is that good!), but absolutely would prefer to sit at one of the two outdoor tables. Where Giorgino's departs most from its Philly relatives is in the large variety of subs and sides. I loved the hot cherry peppers I added to my sandwich, and the fries. This is a cute little place with a bar and a couple of separate seating areas. I'll have to try it in the future for a cheesesteak if I come back here, but today I was in the mood for a quarter pound cheeseburger and fries. I wanted to use the Yelp 10% deal, but it's only good between 5:30 and 8:30. They do have a 5% cash discount but I didn't have enough cash. They also offer a free drink if you buy an entree and a side, but since the cheeseburger actually comes with fries, no go on that as well. The fries were just okay.
