Service and ambiance is great. I believe their breakfast is their specialty and must be good, but we went there later in the day and ordered pasta (orecchiette) and chicken. Portions were very small and it wasn't great (wasn't terrible either). The cinammon buns, on the other hand were delicious. If you plan on going, order the breakfast dishes. read more

Came here for lunch/brunch on Saturday. They were only open for 6 days so they were working out some kinks but nothing major. We were seated right away but the wait for our food was a little long. It wasn't a big deal at all since we were aware that they just opened and they were busy. The coffee was great and they served them in a large mug instead of the small ones you see in diners which was a nice touch. I ordered an omelet with caramelized onions, bacon and cheese. My fiance ordered the grilled chicken sandwich. All of the ingredients were fresh and delicious. The sandwich bread was nice and crunchy. My omelette was a little dry. I think I would have liked it to be a thinner omelet. It reminded me of a fritatta (and there is a fritatta on the menu but I didn't order that) as it was very fluffy. The potatoes that were served with is were really delicious. Nice and crunchy on the outside and fluffy on the inside and not at all greasy. I almost forgot, since one of us ordered lunch they came with a small platter of olives and caponata along with bread and foccacia. Delicious! The caponata is one of the best I ever had and wish it was on the menu. We will definitely be back! read more

It is so awesome to see another cute cafe in downtown Ramsey. We are new to town, and I've always thought that our Main Street, while awesome to have, lacked a lot of charm. Giovanna's makes up for that with a very cool red painted exterior and lovely flowers and benches outside. My family of four dined there on a Sunday around noon. The place was full, but we were seated right away. We did have to wait a bit longer than we expected for our food. They brought our drinks out in stages (kids first, then hubby's coffee, and I had to wait for my latte), which was sort of strange but we know they are a new place and that goes with the territory. The boys had pancakes and were REALLY light, fluffy, and delicious with a crispy outside. Cooked to perfection, really. Hubby and I had eggs, toast, etc. Very good food. It is a little on the pricey side. We are hoping that with time, they will stay open a little later on the weekends. Nice to have a place to just grab coffee and a pastry in the evening, and our town is lacking that. One other thing -- more places like this need to ensure they have wi-fi and adequate service for people using their phones to post Instagrams, Yelp, Foursquare check-ins etc. The best way to get the word out that you're open for business is with customers tweeting and posting about being at your place, sharing great pictures of their lattes and food. Ramsey in general has black out zones and little service. I would seriously consider that as a new owner of a business. read more

OUTSTANDING!!! Came here for the first time with my mother and son. We ordered pasta alla papa, the frittata of the day, a salad called la sorrentino and pancakes from the great kids menu. What a great find! We came with my family for a birthday brunch celebration. Pleasing 7 people is not easy, but Giovanna did a wonderful job. The food was delicious from omelettes to focaccia sandwiches, and made perfectly to order. Not only was the food great, but the service was excellent, particularly the warmth of Giovanna herself. You feel like you are home, especially when she had the whole restaurant sing Happy Birthday and shared a beautiful birthday wish. The icing on this cake was the dessert itself. DO NOT MISS the Tiramisu!! Made by Giovanna's daughter, it is one of the best I've ever had - and I'm Italian. As I said, Giovanna's was a great find. We'll be back again! read more

I've now been here twice since it opened and have really enjoyed both experiences. Most recently, a friend and I went with my baby in a stroller for what we thought was a later lunch, in hopes the cafe wasn't too packed. Unfortunately the place was still packed with the lunch rush. I was a bit nervous as a baby stroller takes up a lot of room and the place isn't huge, but the staff were incredibly accommodating and didn't give me any attitude or act annoyed with the extra bulk as lots of places do. I believe it was the owner who made sure we were situated at a table with extra space. All the staff were super friendly. Even if the food wasn't great (which it absolutely is!), the way we were treated is worth a lot in my book. The food, too, is great. I had an omelet the first time and the frittata the second, both quite delicious. My friend got the french toast and I have to admit I think she made the better choice because it looked AMAZING. I will definitely be returning (and this time, I'll get the french toast!). Prices are great too. I definitely recommend! read more

Phenomenal omelettes. My personal favorite is the Viva L'Italia, it has prosciutto so how could it be bad? The grilled chicken ciabatta sandwich is fantastic, if you go there for lunch, get that and thank me later. They also do family meals on Tuesday and Thursday nights that you can pick up around the corner at the Grab & Go section, great for those nights you don't want to cook. Best breakfast/lunch ever! The food is fresh and fantastic. The attention to detail is something I've seen in 5 star resorts and yet the price point is spot on for a local eatery. The staff is warm, welcoming, professional and attentive. Every time I've been there, the owner can be seen walking around the restaurant greeting guests and can be heard asking questions like "how's your family" making one feel like a part of Giovanna's family. Just came from lunch. Had the "Gluten Free Sandwich Special" Took a long time to come out of the kitchen. Sadly, it was over salted low quality deli turkey warmed, but not enough for the cheese to melt, but warm enough for the bread to turn into a damp sponge. Yum. Poor quality ingredients. Deli meat, iceberg lettuce. Are you kidding me ... this is Bergen County! We pay for quality here, and a premium for gluten free. You have a lot to learn. read more

I went in to Giovanna's the other day for the first time. My meal was very good, but i left with a bad taste in my mouth, and not because of my food. The way the owner or manager was treating the staff and customers was disgusting. she was screaming and even cursing at one staff member in particular. it was so unprofessional and customers were staring and uncomfortable. The service was good so i didnt understand why she was so angry, and even if she had reason it wasn't appropriate to create a scene in front of everyone. I will not be back to Giovanna's, and if stuff liek this occurs regularly im sure alot of customers won't be back either. read more

The hostess was so rude. I've been here once before and had horrible service. The meal was mediocre at best. Today I went on a Thursday mid morning. They have 2 other tables and a room full of empty tables. I said I would be a table of 2. The hostess very rudely told me I could stand there and wait as it is their policy to wait until the entire party has arrived to seat you. Listen that's fine for a busy Sunday morning. This is Thursday mid morning and you have entire room full of tables. And they don't have a waiting area. They just want you to stand there in the door in a very awkward spot. Furthermore our table would've been a two top, so what's the difference if I sit down and order a coffee while I wait for my friend to arrive? So rude! A dining experience is not just food. It's the way you're treated and the service provided to you. I've been a Ramsey resident for 25 years and I will tell everyone I know in this town to never go there again.
