Cannot believe anyone would rate this place less than five stars based on the food and service. I had tortellini soup and steak salad, the steak was like butter, I haven't had such good meat since I can't remember when. My friend ate minestrone soup and linguini with shrimp and broccoli. There was as much shrimp as linguine in the dish. She loved it. The bread basket with the garlic knots and the oil with tomato in it was great too. The service was excellent as well, the waiter constantly refilled our glasses of water and kept stopping by to ask how everything was. Just as good as Arthur Ave. if not better. A bit expensive, but totally worth it. A surprise to me, I will definitely be going back again. read more

Back again as I knew I would. This time for brunch. They brought the price down for $40 pp to $28.95 as they changed the unlimited drinks to 3 drinks pp; it's still AYCE tho . this event attracts foodies, large groups and church goers. I learned my lesson and kept it simple this time. My 1st time there, I saw all the food, ate all the food and got annoyingly full. This time we chilled out and had a moderate pace. So b/c it's buffet I didn't do any pics (5 random items on a plate ain't sexy), so I'll briefly describe my bites. - asparagus were seasoned to perfection, yum. - the baked clams were so flavorful (they really need to add more chopped clams, it was 98% bread crumbs) - fish nuggets were hard - tomatoes and mozzarella was super yum, cheese was the perfect texture - avocado toast was the best - I enjoyed my mimosas I wondered if it was under new management-- the staff was so anxious and ansy. I don't mind an extra check in or 2 if it's polite and gracious yet they were not. They were rushing and nervous. Decent food. Horrible service. Overpriced. Only nice dining option in the area, which is what drew us in. Stayed at Bronx Opera House Hotel. Walking to Yankee Stadium, not a whole lot of options of decent looking establishments to eat. This place is inviting from outside, typical pizzeria look inside, so we were OK with our choice to dine here. Service is awful. Food is good. But when your food comes long before you have a fork to eat it with (Had already asked our waiter, then another waiter, then after no forks from either...walked to counter to get some...not handed any. Had to wait another 5 minutes) that's pretty freakin bad. So our meals looked great, but to wait another 10 minutes to get forks?!?!? That's unacceptable. As for drinks, ordered those first. Water and a Dogfish Head 90 minute IPA. The meal came before our drinks did. Waiter hands me a ginger beer, which is a type of soda in a bottle. Tell him immediately if his mistake, and we don't see him again for another 10 minutes. So have my meal, no fork to eat it with, and no drink to quench my thirst. Not happy. When we finally got our forks, the food was good. My husband had chicken parmigiana with spaghetti and I had fried shrimp with a salad. Specified no tomatoes...it had a cherry tomato. Whatever. If there were a 4.5 rating option I probably would've given that. That said, I've been a patron of this restaurant for 10+ years (less so after their Fordham Road location closed but I still make the trek to their 149th St locale occasionally...out of my personal travel comfort zone but it is that good when you're craving some authentic tasting Italian here in my part of the BX. MY go-to is usually the lasagna...although last time I went there a few months ago the price jumped significantly (COVID-related I suppose), it was still as good as I remembered. The seafood platter with pasta noodles and Marinara sauce has never ever disappointed me. The pizza parlor side of the place was not packed at all, so I expected expedient service for our sit down meal. Alas, it was not to be. Sat down and waited what seemed to be an excruciating long time for any of the multiple servers to approach the table with menus. Finally , the menus arrived, we were able to order shortly thereafter. Warm bread, garlic knots and a bowl with marinara sauce appeared with our drinks shortly thereafter. Unfortunately, the main course took forever to arrive, almost a half hour. My dish of spinach fettuccine with grilled chicken, shrimp and mushrooms was aces, but the waiting around was not bearable. Disclaimer: I ordered delivery during COVID 19. I did not visit the restaurant. I ordered three dishes: the baked cheese ravioli, the turkey and Swiss cold wrap, and the roasted pepper and mozzarella cold wrap. Both wraps were served with fries. The ravioli is large and rich, full of cheese. It is best eaten right away while still hot, and doesn't do as well as leftovers. The turkey and Swiss wrap was made with mixed greens, tomatoes, and honey mustard. It wasn't extravagant, but was clean and well made. The roasted pepper and mozzarella wrap had A LOT of mozzarella and less peppers. Overall good, but a little more cheese than I would want--it was literally a huge, thick slice of mozzarella. The fries were crispy. Delivery was fast. The delivery driver was courteous. This restaurant has a huge selection of pasta, wraps, pizza, chicken/veal/steak. Though I'm always a little wary of any place with a menu this large, the food was fresh. read more

I used to love Giovanni Pizza and ordered quite often to Harlem. I tip well, so the delivery people are happy coming to Harlem. After getting hung up on twice yesterday while trying to order, I tried ordering direct from Giovanni today..they no longer have my info stored in the system, so after gibing them that, I was told they won't deliver for under $50?????? Celebrated my friend's husband's actual birthday tonight with her family. I was a bit disappointed that the leather seats on the first level were all reserved for a party. The hostess seated us at a booth table upstairs at least it was a corner so tables around us weren't in our conversations. My first time Eatting at Giovanni's. My dad brought my daughter and I here as well as a friend. When we first entered the establishment we weren't greeted. My dad said we'll be sitting down stairs and we made our way down stairs. It took about 15 minutes for someone to come and pour us water. Once we were ready to order. We had to wait an additional 10 minutes. Finally we order our food, my dad ordered his usual Pork chops with onions. I ordered BBQ ribs with Alfredo pasta. We waited a good 25 plus minutes for our food. Once we received our food and began eating I noticed my ribs where extremely dry. And for the BBQ sauce they used a excessive amount of hot sauce which over powered the BBQ. It was hard for me to eat it. The Alfredo it was extremely creamy and bland. My dads pork chop was bland and burnt. Extremely chewy and not to mention they brought him the wrong order. The waiter said he was new and didn't know the menu. We were seated right away with no reservation for a Saturday brunch. Food was great. Drinks were good. Our issue was with our server, who we found out later was the acting manager, because the true manager wasn't in Yet. Our bill came out to $106 for 2 people. We were going to share the bill evenly. I gave a $100 bill and my friend paid with a credit card. We were so deep into our conversation that when the waiter picked up the bill with $ and credit card we forgot to mention to split the bill. He came back with just the credit card where he charged $6 on. We told him we forgot to mention it should have split, and asked if he could re-do the bill and delete the charge. He said he couldn't. Who charges $6 on a credit card bill??!!! We felt he shouldn't have been a waiter if he doesn't know to ask if we were splitting the bill. We also feel he could have reversed the charge. Heard they canceled the breakfast buffet but still decided to give brunch a try. 1. No brunch menu on the website. Not a big deal. Called and they actually emailed to me which was nice. Bare bones menu of 3 omelette dishes with basic info like "ham & cheese" or "veggie" and pancakes and French toast. Still we went. 2. Waitress couldn't tell me what was in veggie omelet like what veggies? Does it come with cheese? None of this info was on the menu either. Cool, she went to ask. Came back and couldn't remember. I had to give her a list of all the veggies I wanted in my omelet. 3. Asked for turkey sausage (which was on the menu). They didn't have any. One hour after opening for the day? Cool, turkey bacon? They didn't have any. So I left it. 4. Husband asked if they had green tea. Said yes. Came back with something else. Told waitress and she said oh we don't have any. Cool, we'll drink this water. 5. Food came. Omelette came with no sides whatsoever and those three raggedy strawberries and 4 grapes DO NOT COUNT. Also came with yellow cheese which I specifically said I didn't like. $17 dollars. 6. Told waitress and she was nice, but told her the order was wrong and I simply wanted to leave. Took the order off and we wrapped my husbands sandwich up to go. Giovanni's, I say this is a person who roots for your restaurant and has been a loyal patron and enjoyed your lunch and dinner: DO BETTER. Have staff that is better trained but, more than that, don't cheat and shortchange your patrons. $17 for 3 eggs is some Manhattan bs. Stood by the counter for 5 minutes waiting for someone to come to the counter to take my order and two of the food preps saw me and the short guy with black hair who normally places the pizza in the oven heard me calling out for customer service and he choose to ignore me and walked further left into the kitchen to continue eating and not be disturbed. The two food preps saw the guy ignore me and choose not to interfere to remind there fellow employee what takes president. Patrons who were seated witnessed the entire scenario and voiced their opinion to me when I decided to walk out. It's a demeaning experience when you're ignored not by one but THREE EMPLOYEES on May 23, 2019. This is not the first time I questioned the level of customer service in this place. A year or two ago I witnessed one of the guys who takes the order dig his nose thinking no one saw him and then proceeded to want to take my order I told him no and reported the guy to another employee and allowed that person to take my order instead. Because of that I stopped coming here for a while because I was disgusted of the thought of someone handling my food after digging their nose. Sometimes workers fail to realize customers are watching all the time and the slightest thing can effect their business. Also, I order the same pizza enough to know the price, but sometimes the fee changes from $4.95 to $5.00. It's not a significant difference; however, it's the principle of it all. I had to call 30 minutes later for them to tell me it was almost done. This was nearly two hours for a damn pizza. Second time I had ordered, I made a simple special request. Was it given? You guessed it! NO!!!! I called the pizzeria just to confirm if this was possible. The response was a confident yes. Once delivered, again, I was not given my request for the special request. I, once again, called the pizzeria, spoke to the manager, Fernando. He said that they were busy. There are MANY times in my job line where I get busy (family reunification). I always double check my work. If I make a mistake, I redo my work until it is correct. I got a simple, sorry. If I were the owner of this pizzeria, I would re-teach Fernando how to be a better manager. Isn't "manager" a person who manages, perhaps, orders, time schedules, and does customer service? Second, the pasta had absolutely no flavor, I had to add a bit of salt. Third, I ordered buffalo wings and instead got barbecue wings, which to those who know me know I hate barbecue sauce. And last but deff not least, the wings had so much feathers I had to throw more than half away. It's the nastiest thing to see feathered flavorless wings smothered in barbecue sauce. No thank you! I've been got to to this restaurant since it first opened some 20+ years, and today is the first time i have been disappointed in the service which received there, the waitress which serviced us was a bit flighty and distracted with her service, we placed our order which included an appetizer which she forgot to order, she apologized but to me there was no excuse since the restaurant wasn't crowded. She did offer to comp our drinks or even offer us a dessert on the house, nothing. The food is still good thank goodness, but something about the service has to change. read more

Unfortunately Giovanni's have fallen off tremendously. This used to be one of my go-to places to order seafood and pizza on the weekends. Our order took an hour and a half to get to us. The food was cold when it arrived, and they left out an entire entree and pasta dish so my husband had to sit and watch everyone else eat while he pleaded with the person on the phone to send his order.
