I was looking for something a little different when I came across this restaurant, and the reviews…read moreimmediately caught my attention. I was dining alone and sat at the counter, where I could watch the team prepare each meal. You are essentially sitting right in the kitchen, with only the counter separating you from the chefs and staff. It made the entire experience much more interesting and gave me a real appreciation for the effort that goes into every dish. I started with the lumpia, which I loved. The sauce was absolutely delicious. For dinner, I had the scallops with gnocchi, and the food was excellent. My server, whom I believe was named Tristan, was also outstanding. He was always available when needed but never hovered. The service was perfectly balanced. I was there for a little over an hour, and not once did I see anyone in the kitchen standing around. It was a fast-paced, hardworking environment, and everyone was completely focused on preparing and serving the food. At most restaurants, all of this work happens behind closed doors. Being able to watch the preparation gave me an even greater appreciation for my meal and the people who made it. This is definitely a restaurant you should experience for yourself. I will absolutely be returning with friends.

Our waiter was super attentive and even though it took some time for the food to come out, I think given the quality of everything we ate, it was worth it. I got the raspberry mint mojito cocktail which was delicious and I pinched a sip or two of kid's lemonade made from fresh lemons, perfect level of sweetness. We tried the sweet potato pakoras and lumpia and the trio of house made dips (we liked the green mint-e one best). Everything was tasty, including the sauces that came up with them. Our kids shared the ramen which they split into two large bowls that didn't even look like a split dish given how much it was. My wife got the spare ribs which melted off the bones and had great flavor. The scallop dish I ordered came with six scallops that were a good size and also came with some gnocci, a delicious and unique sauce, and an unusual lobster with veggie type of ceviche salad accoutrement. I have the sense that the menu changes regularly here. The chef/owner came out and greeted us after the meal to ask how everything was and we could honestly respond that it was our best meal of the week. Subsequently we tried to sample many items from their desert menu and again Bastard did not disappoint. Surprisingly the "S'Mores," a more adult take on the kid's classic, was one of our favorites. Given the unique take on a variety of globally inspired dishes and great attention to detail, I would love to try Bastard again the next time I'm in the area.

The bar is large and looks very comfortable. Lots of TVs for watching various sports. The overall vibe is very casual and not pretentious at all. Service is friendly, and the food was timed just right. Our friend ordered a Makers on the rocks and I was impressed with the pour. We shared calamari and mozzarella sticks to start; not a trace of greasiness-both served hot and with a delicious side of marinara. The peppers in the calamari could be an appetizer of their own...I could have made a meal of those. I had the buffalo chicken salad with blue cheese dressing on the side. Fab. Grilled chicken pieces were just the right size and coated with a medium spicy sauce over greens, croutons, onions and olives. Others at the table had the ribs and Tuscan chicken. Rave reviews for the Tuscan chicken served with pasta in a creamy garlic sauce. Ribs-huge portion (got the full rack) and the fries were awesome. These are fork and knife ribs; no need to pick them up since they fall off the bone. I would have liked a little more sauce...so next time I'll ask for a side of it. We arrived early and it got busier without being too crazy. I hope they do well-go check them out!

Generous portion sizes, but the option to size down if wanted (full size or 1/2 portions available). It's always served fresh and hot! For example, the gluten free eggplant and/or chicken parm, chicken tenders, pizza, pastas, a variety of homemade desserts (the carrot cake is one of my favorites), etc. The service is always super friendly!! Many of the servers have been there for a very long time, which is nice! They know the menu, they know the customers, and they seem to really enjoy working there! The restaurant is also located right downtown, walking distance to shops, other restaurants and bars, the arena, etc.! Go check it out! I don't think you'll be disappointed!

Our server was very attentive but chill and knowledgeable. We got the Utica greens to share as an appetizer, a cocktail and Mad Max local beer, then a burger with hand cut fries and a chicken stuffed poblano. Dessert was a passion fruit chocolate tart which we took to go. If you're looking for well crafted food with a creative twist, this place is a great choice. North country friendly and approachable with a sophisticated set of offerings. Some really unique cocktails too. Not a boring thing on the menu.

Taylor was one of the best servers we've had in a long time. Everything is made fresh daily, and if you sit at the Chef's Counter, you'll see it first hand. You'll also get great descriptions of everything from the awesome Chefs and maybe get to try something extra too. I recommend using the reservation system on their website and specify your seating preferences. You can choose from the Chef's Counter, the bar, a high-top table, a low table, or an outdoor table (weather permitting). We also appreciated them asking about food allergies on the reservation system too and they verified it when we arrived. We were so impressed with the unique menu options that are offered in the appetizers, small shareable plates, main courses, desserts, and drinks. We are already planning on coming back Sunday for brunch and know we'll be back again soon for dinner.
