Even though the exterior and interior promise greatness with their campy design, the food is abominable. I ordered veal scaloppine ala Marsala and the veal was overcooked, and over saturated with the sauce. The sauce itself was bitter. My partner got the chicken Marsala and a salad that looked like it was made of plastic. Bread was bought from the grocery store. Soup came out of a can. Service excellent! I'd say Mario's is decent, basic Italian food. We were driving through Lake George, got to the end of the main strip and decided to make a left into Mario's. It was still early for dinner, so it wasn't busy and we were seated right away. Definitely an old school Italian restaurant vibe. The menu is not overwhelming but has plenty of options for varied preferences. Believe it or not, two of my favorite things were the crusty, hot bread (which accompanied the dip that we ordered as an appetizer) and the pile of freshly grated Parmesan cheese on the table. I had the stuffed sole with a side of pasta. I chose penne with oil and garlic and a "just right" side portion was served in a small bowl. I added some of that Parmesan from the table and was a happy camper. The sole was flaky and tasty-not fishy....it reminded me of the stuffed sole we would get from our local fish store in NYC when I was a kid. Clams casino were a good appetizer....but it's not really my jam. I prefer just regular stuffed clams (which are not on the menu). The sausage and peppers: a very generous portion that got solid reviews. Lots of pasta and enough leftover for a couple of days. We shared a cannoli to finish the meal...next time I'll try the tiramisu. By the time we left, it was quite busy. Our server was a hoot; I hope she's there next time. read more

I normally would never take the time to write a review, but this time it was necessary! Do not eat at this restaurant! it took over 15 minutes for the waitress to even acknowledge we were there. The salad came out and tasted as though it been in the refrigerator for days. The appetizers were cold. We were very rushed! We ordered a steak which was completely all fat. My update is this place isn't the same as it was. I believe they are actively selling the business but something already seems changed from the kitchen. The eggplant and chicken Parmesan weren't as good. The chicken was thicker than before and even a little too crunchy. The stuffed shells would've been better homemade by myself. I don't think the original Mario's will ever return especially since they are selling the business. This might just be the last time we ever visit. read more

Wonderful owners, atmosphere, staff and they never disappoint!! Best linguini and clam sauce, homemade sausage, great chicken and veal parm. Alfredo sauce is incredible. We have been coming here once a year for the past two years when my dad has a work convention. We usually come with a large group so we called ahead and made a reservation. Our server was really nice, he was a little overwhelmed with the amount of tables he had but we didn't mind. All of the food was really good, the ravioli are ginormous! Being a business owner of Roma Sausage and Deli we take care off the customers 100% no matter what...Mario's restaurant in Lake george is a disgrace to Italian food. The owner's daughter was our waitress and she messed up one of our meals proceeded to tell us we told her the wrong meal so she gets us the right meal an hour later while mine sat on the table waiting for my gfs meal for her bday dinner. The owner himself had nothing to say for his daughter who was hiding in the back. The owner never made things right will never be returning for mid italian food ever again. I've been coming here for years every summer as a matter of fact. But this manager they had very rude, attitude like we should be grateful to be there instead of her being grateful that her salary is paid because customers patronize the restaurant. We were a large party so not only would she not seat us together I made reservations two weeks in advance so we put kids one table adults in another and she wouldn't put both tables on one check!! Have you heard anything so stupid. So the kids had different waiter as did we two separate checks. It definitely dampened the mood and the dishes weren't as good as the year before. I first visited Mario's about 10 years ago and was quite pleased to hear they we're still in business. We were able to make sane day reservations which was for 6:30 on a Saturday'. The parking area behind the building is small and nearly every spot was taken just as it was on my first visit which is always a good sign. Mario's has simple decor, nothing fancy but when you walk in it just has that vibe that you'll be sitting down to a great meal. It's very homey and the wait staff are great. We were greeted with a smile and promptly sat at a table by the window which gave us a great view of the main Street and people walking by.. My meal (and my husband's) however was a bit lack luster. It wasn't bad by any means but there was certainly nothing memorable about it that would make it a required stop on my next visit to the Adirondacks. It was just ok- it didn't give me that "wow" factor that I remember from my first visit. But that's ok. I would still come back and give it another try. The couple seated next to us told the waiter that Mario's is a required last stop every time they are in town. That's the kind of restaurant this is - they probably have a favorite dish that they enjoy and look forward to. I think we just had a one off experience that ended up being so-so. This is a local establishment that has been around for a long time. Stop in and check them out. I imagine this is a favorite of a lot of people and I don't want to short change them over one so-so meal. read more

The waiter was fine. The food was not. Ordered a "lightly breaded" veal cutlet that came out heavily breaded and hard as a rock. The veal had so much fat in it that I couldn't eat half of it. I informed the waiter that I thought it was awful yet no one in management ever came to the table. We were a party of 9 and so I give the waiter a break. So, the food (at least mine) was awful and there were three people at the hostess stand all night that took up so much space that it was difficult to get around them to walk in the dining room(both in front and behind the hostess stand). Consistency is what Mario's is about. Jason has been the Chef for a number of years and his food is delicious. We were seated promptly and Rachel our server, was very professional and her recommendations were spot on. We had our drinks and water and orders taken timely. I had the chicken piccata and it was perfect. A perfect lemon caper sauce with mushrooms. The chicken was thin and perfect. Cooked to order. Our group all agreed that there food was fresh and cooked perfectly. The stuffed shrimp and chicken Marsala came out fresh and hot. We enjoyed our drinks and our food came timely. Good classic Italian food which is a nice difference from the other restaurants in the area. They were able to take a reservation for 5 on a Saturday night last minute no problem. Mario came over to our table personally to ask how everything was and he was the nicest! I love how he cared about the guests and didn't rely on just the servers to ask how things were. He even too the time to ask about our trip to lake George and our friends wedding. He also took the time to explain the history of the building and how it was his grandmothers house and how it was structured before converted to the restaurant. Has a few parking spots off road which is nice. All our food was delicious and perfect portion size. Didn't overdo it, but felt full and content. Our friend got the chicken Marsala and said it was one of the best she has ever had. Meatballs had amazing flavor. Another friend got the sampler which is a great entree idea for someone who wants a little bit of everything. All meals come with a salad and most with a pasta side, both good. A good place for a special occasion (ours was a bachelorette party) or a date night. But also a place you can bring children too and not feel out of place. Only reason for 4 stars and not 5 is the hostess was rushing around and didn't give you that welcoming feeling (walking so fast she knocked over the water pitchers and didn't stop to pick them up, then when seating us she walked to our table, dropped the menus and kept walking without saying anything. We actually walked past our table to follow her not realizing that was our table). I also wish the bread came with dinner instead of having to order it for $5 - note you only got 6 pieces of bread too which for a party of 5 is a little sad. Mario's should be utterly ASHAMED to think that a plate for $25 involves three shrimp and three slices of eggplant for their parmigiana platter, with a watered down side of pasta and house sauce. The sauce for the parmigiana was different than the spaghetti - WHY?! I can taste the difference and you can too. I cook more generously for strangers! How do you justify that cost?! Hubby's plate was a little more substantial with chicken in his "vodka" sauce, and the quotation marks are there, because there was nothing "vodka" about the vodka sauce. Don't try to convince me this is Italian food at its finest, because it's really NOT. I come from 4th generation Italian-Americans, and this is maybe up there with Olive Garden. Get your recipes straight and your portions on better par; people are spending their good money on you, Mario's, and you certainly lost me as a future customer. the reason for the long wait is because the food here is sooooooo amazing. anytime my family and i come up from long island, it is a MUST that we eat here. at first we were a little upset. we came without a reservation and was told an hour wait. no problem. the hostess sat several people who came in after us. yeah maybe they had a reservation but they could have definitely waited for a table after us. among the people who sat before us, was a group of three who got sat immediately upon entering ((who ended up walking out)). despite this i still enjoyed my visit here. most dishes get soup or salad with it. i had a minestrone soup. it came out before the meal and was SO delicious. i was being plain and got angel hair pasta with meat sauce. of course it was incredible. i took a good amount back to the hotel. my dad and i shared the cheesecake and it was so good. The waitresses was incredibly sweet. she was quick and constantly refilling our water. wish i knew her name she was working tuesday night 8/10. either way, she made the experience great. read more

We have been vacationing in Lake George the past few summers and every time we have said we must try Mario's, they have been around since 1954, so they must be doing something right. So we finally made a reservation on Monday night for 6:00pm and tried them this year. Atmosphere inside was very warm and welcoming. Service was attentive. Drinks were strong. Food was good, heavy on the red sauce and cheese. Portion size was okay (not family style). Desserts were delicious. The restaurant was beautifully decorated for the holidays! That was the positive. We have been here many times over 30 years and it's always been decent. You could always count on a nice salad and meal. Last night was our first visit in 2 years or so. My mouth dropped when I saw the prices. $29 for linguine and clam sauce??? Used to be $19 or $21. This is not a 5 star restaurant or hip and in Glens Falls. Portion sizes were dramatically reduced and the salad size was laughable. Meal was adequate. Way less clams and pasta than in the past. We like to eat on the early side, and managed to walk in without reservations at 530. We were seated right away, thankfully on the porch overlooking the entrance walk, since the flow of tables being seated picked up quickly as we decided on drinks and appetizers. By the time we were enjoying the Pinot Grigio and fresh bread in garlicky olive oil and balsamic, there was only one table open. Well other reviews have complained, the decor was perfect for an old school Italian restaurant. It is obvious why this old school place has been around since 1954. The menu is classic Italian, exactly what you should expect. If you're looking for trendy ingredients, go to someplace that advertises that. There was plenty of stuff, and no one stood around. Our waitress Sabrina was delightful from start to finish. After considering the specials and her recommendations, we opted for their two "sampler" platters. The hot antipasto included some of my favorites: clams casino and shrimp scampi, each cooked just right and not chewy or overdone. Add in stuffed mushrooms made with a bit of zippy sausage and chicken parmesan and this gal is in heaven without being too full. (maybe that's because we walked all day). The Italian platter had stuffed shells, with fluffy ricotta filling, chicken parmesan that was moist and tender inside yet crispy outside with generous thickly shaved fresh Parmesan, mini meatballs and penne. Did I mention that nothing was drowned in sauce? We managed to finish both platters, even with the beautiful generous house salads in house Italian dressing. We were a bit too full for dessert but when Sabrina brought the menu and suggested we take it to go, I couldn't resist one more classic Italian choice: lemon cream cake. I wish I could give this place a higher rating, I really do. I may be mistaken, but I believe Mario's is the longest-tenured continually operating restaurant in Lake George village. The consistent line out the door night after night after night shows that Mario's is still loved by tourists from all over. When we went (reservation in hand, of course!) both the hostess and our server couldn't have been more courteous, professional and engaging. So I think it's pretty obvious where we're heading here. The food just isn't very good. Like, at all. We started with some hot antipasto for the table, which included some stuffed mushrooms with VERY dried out pork stuffing and some of the mushiest shrimp scampi I've ever had. The puddles of water on the bottom of our dinner salads indicated that they had clearly not been spun prior to being plated. My eggplant and chicken parmigiana combo featured twice the disappointment: eggplant cut into thick discs that lead to them being underdone accompanied by overcooked chicken and a side of penne with completely flavorless sauce. My wife did not even finish her spaghetti with meat sauce, which if you know my wife, is the ultimate indictment of a pasta dish. The kid's meal pizza is clearly a frozen pizza, which of course he enjoyed, but what kind of self-respecting Italian restaurant would serve a frozen pizza, even on the kid's meal? So, while the atmosphere is nice and the service is very good, the food quite simply was not, across the board. I made the mistake reading negative reviews knowing damn well I have enjoyed coming here for the past six years during the Warrensburg Town Wide Tag Sale. I went in there tonight with the mindset of defending my opinion and instead I enjoyed my time with my family. With plenty of time from now until tomorrow morning where we ship out to Boston to see a Yankee sweep I give you my tonights review: It started last night when I made the reservation for 7:00, knowing this place is packed every year we ALWAYS make one as you should too. Tonight I was lucky enough to find two parking places in their parking lot. Typically you have to find a spot on the street so don't be surprised if this happens to you, you now know. We arrived shortly before seven, checked in and sat down at the bar. It was busy, one bartender with a bunch of hungry guests. We caught wind from a party the same as ours that they had a reservation 30 minutes early than ours and they were still waiting to be seated. Not what I personally wanted to hear but oh well, that's life. It gave us an opportunity to talk to more people, one who was local who said once summer is over and all the college kids go back to school and everyone leaves town that Mario's and every other establishment in Lake George is understaffed. Makes sense, I witness it every year when I walk the strip after I eat going back to my room and everything is dead. No different tonight. Once we sat down we ordered food, got yummy warm bread, ate our salads and soups and waited for our food. Out server was in the process of working a double and she did a fantastic job! Full of energy, great smile and attitude, clearly someone who enjoys her job. Once our food came out, which did take some time with how packed it was, we dug on in and cleaned up pretty much every plate. I had lasagna along with my aunt, my grandparents shared a chicken parm and a sausage & pepper dish. We shared with one another and enjoyed each bite with satisfaction. This pretty much summed up our night. The only negative vibe we got tonight was from the bartender while we waited. One of the groups was ordering drinks, they were buying a round for a couple. The couple made a gesture saying they were ok and she went off to take someone else's order while this guy was still talking. She barley smiled, said thank you with little believability, broke a glass (which apparently was the third tonight), and had a hard time keeping up with the empties to maintain a clean countertop. We did make eye contact at one point while she was making drinks and cracked a smile so I have to assume she was tired. I'm giving four stars on my tonight's opinion. I believe they can be a five star establishment when staffing is justified, just not tonight. read more

It's particularly painful when a place you love and cherish and have been going to for ages becomes a shadow of its former self, but such is the case with Mario's. I remember this being a special night out for me and my family up in Lake George--getting fancy, so we're going to Mario's! But the last couple of times here, that has meant glorified microwave dinners at nice restaurant prices. Literally, the eggplant and chicken Parmesan felt like preheated patties rather that a home cooked meal. Not just quality--the center of my chicken was cold, to the extent I really wondered if it had been microwaved. My mom, who is hard to displease, was pretty disappointed with her sausage and peppers as well. I'll always have fond memories of coming here as a kid, but a place must adapt, and continue to deliver. I fear Mario's is coasting on an old reputation or taking advantage of tourists without better information or knowledge. I hope that changes. read more

The service and food was good. But the atmosphere has little to be desired. You are cramped elbow to elbow in two small rooms. The have large tables where the customers scream back and forth laughing out loud. My wife's iPhone watch went off alarming her the noise level in the room is too high.
